I was really looking forward to dining at this newly opened rooftop because I live for rooftops and love the idea of dining in a private greenhouse.
After making a reservation for 2 online, I thought I was all set. Then I had to make a change to the reservation, so I called the place and am glad I did. I learned that making an online reservation doesn't guarantee your spot, because they automatically allow you to still make a reservation even if they are at capacity on any given day. The lady on the phone was pleasant enough and explained the online reservation system pretty clearly. However, since there is an issue with online reservations, it is their responsibility to fix it or just not offer that option. I don't really understand the point of online reservations if it is causing so many problems. Therefore, I would recommend calling the restaurant directly to ensure your reservation goes through.
Upon arriving, my friend and I found out that the "rooftop" was on the 3rd floor. Since it was so close to ground level, there was barely a view. The ambiance of the rooftop and decor was beautiful though. There was a bar area with pretty pink and white orchards, a row of clear green houses, leafy green plants throughout, and a myriad of seating options from wooden tables and benches, to couches and plush seats.
We found out that there were only a few private greenhouses and none of them were available, so we were forced to choose another place to sit. This was quite disappointing, because the photos made it look like the rooftop was filled with only greenhouses and that we would get to peruse them. We chose plush couch seating and resorted to taking photos in front of the greenhouses to make it look like we ate in there. Our table was lovely though, with a gold flower design on shiny black surface. There was hand sanitizer on the table, which was a thoughtful touch.
We were served cold water and told that we would need to scan the QR code to view the menu. I decided I wanted the salmon. We had to wait a bit for a waiter to be available and this was the case during most of our time here. When I ordered, the waiter asked me if it was the sandwich. It turned out that all the fish dishes were actually sandwiches, which I did not realize.
I stuck with the Panino Salmone, which consisted of pan seared salmon, baby arugula, truffle fries, and goat cheese on a brioche roll. This was plated and stacked nicely, however the portion was on the small side. Additionally, I did not expect the truffle fries to be part of the sandwich. The brioche roll was wonderfully fluffy and soft. The salmon was slightly crispy, with plenty of delightful seasoning. It was also tender, flaky, and flavorful. The truffle fries had strong truffle taste, however was not as crunchy as I like. I also expected more fries in general. The goat cheese was creamy and added to the flavor profile. Overall, the ingredients mingled well together and it was a decent sandwich.
The service was dismal because we had to try to flag our waiter down any time we needed anything and everything took longer. Also, the pricing was high. For my salmon sandwich, the cost was around $20 so not that bad, but my friend's truffle gnocchi with bacon was $28, which was definitely too much. Thankfully, the company was great and the set up of the rooftop was visually pleasing. Despite that, the service and food left much to be desired, so I will not be back.
