The Best Wineries and Wine Tastings in the Columbia River Gorge | Eater Portland

"This biodynamic vineyard sits in an eddy of the Missoula Floods, where rows of syrah and albariño grow between cherry and oak trees. Here, visitors may drink anything from ruby-hued pinot noir to an energetic trousseau, tasting in a variety of environments — tucked away in the cherry orchard, picnicking among the lavender fields, guided through the vineyard land on a tour, or simply sitting beside the winery’s renovated barn facility with a tapas-style food pairing to take in the view. Tastings start at $30 per person, and reservations are recommended." - Molly Allen

I met the owner and the chef of Analemma, Kris and Mark, while waiting on them at the restaurant I work at on the Oregon coast. They had overheard me talking to another couple of guests about my upcoming wedding and my bachelorette weekend in Hood River. When I next came to check in on them they invited me to come to Analemma (just 10-15 minutes away from Hood River) in Mosier. It instantly interested me and they seemed genuinely excited to have me come by. When My friends and I arrived they both met us at the door and greeted us with so much kindness and welcoming spirits. Kris and Mark both made our experience there genuinely unforgettable. Their kindness and generosity left a life long impression on my friends and I. They generously covered our meals that were both beautifully plated and tasted absolutely phenomenal with every aspect being somehow locally sourced or grown right at Analemma. In turn supporting local businesses and providing the surety of a reliably fresh, healthy source. The wines we got to taste alongside the meal were expertly paired and tasted wonderful. In fact I haven't stopped thinking about our first tasting and will be purchasing a bottle to drink at my wedding. After our meal Kris took us on a beautiful tour of the property and made the whole experience more special than anything I have ever experienced. I am eternally grateful for the generosity and kindness of Kris, Mark, and Analemma and will absolutely be returning the next chance I get.

Gorgeous views, biodynamic wines, and chef-curated vegan friendly bites done right. We’ve always loved visiting this biodynamic winery in Mosier, but lately it’s become even more enchanting with locally sourced, chef-curated small bites. These are thoughtful, artful dishes—not a place for casual substitutions. As vegan foodies, we’re used to being disappointed, but Analemma always delivers. Leaving off a non-vegan item doesn’t take anything away. We love it. The staff is sweet and welcoming. You can wander cherry orchards, lavender, and vineyard views make it beautiful in every season. Seating is varied and lovely, from the lawn or shaded veranda to the vineyard terrace or a picnic table in the orchard. Seasonal events like calçotadas add to the charm.

We had an absolutely fantastic experience at Analemma Wines. We are from San Diego and were delighted to find a biodynamic winery in the area while visiting Hood River. From stepping out of the car to returning to it, our experience was top notch. We were greeted by a kind and welcoming woman and taken care of quickly. Every wine we tried was exceptional. The most important factor to us is the purity of the wine, and when you mix biodynamic with the flavor profiles of these wines, you are in for a true delight. The views are breathtaking and you can feel the cleanliness and care that goes into the operation just being in its presence. Lauren, one of the employees who served us, was amazing. She was the cherry on top of an incredible visit! We had amazing service and conversation thanks to her. We are looking forward to becoming members and hopefully making it back soon. THANK YOU!

APRIL 2018: Came with a group of 15 and a picnic. They accommodated us very graciously and provided us with a beautiful tasting experience, a walk through the orchard to a picnic area with a stunning view. The Whites were fascinating and exciting, yet well balanced. Highly recommend UPDATE NOVEMBER 2018: Came with 2 very experience friends and for the first time ever, he had nothing to complain about, in fact he LOVED it! Both Whites and Reds were surprising and beyond memorable, more in the range of haunting by capturing senses you didn’t know you had. No, I am not paid for this review, have any affiliation, nor am I a writer or a professional. This is just how the wines made us feel and when you know it’s this good, you know!

Analemma winery is one of my all time favorites to visit!!! Snuggled in the hills of a Mosier , Oregon it is sooo picturesque. My family and I visited last weekend and had a fabulous experience passing the regular tasting patio and walking thru the vineyards to an upper terrace !!!! A basket of spectacular wines, glasses, bottled water was waiting. I felt like I was in Italy. The view is just gorgeous. Every time we visit it just gets better and better. The staff is like family and treat each guest with care, visiting each table and explaining exactly what your drinking. I highly recommend visiting Analemma!

Yelp
What a beautiful , magical vineyard! Nestled in the hills in the tiny town of Mosier, between Hood River and The Dalles, Analemma is an absolute gem! The tasting room has a modern, clean line aesthetic and blends in perfectly with the natural landscape, their outdoor seating area connecting the two spaces. There is a patio with various seating arrangements, picnic tables nestled amongst the vines, and even a private vista space with incredible views, just a short walk through the vineyard. That is where our group spent a lovely afternoon. There were picnic tables, huge umbrellas, and of course several bottles of wine. And amazing views of the vineyard and the rolling hills of Mosier. What is unique about Analema wines is they are a biodynamic grower and producer and only use fruit from the Columbia Gorge; many vineyards use grapes from a variety of regions. Everything is produced onsite and they utilize regenerative farming practices. Their wines are varied, and many are gentle. On a hot day, the Mosier Hills Albariño was crisp and refreshing. I've also enjoyed their Trousseau that has a hint of orange peel, something I've never had before. And their Tinto, a red blend, is a great every day wine. Service was fabulous. The owner even came out to our Vista area to mingle with the guests and answer questions. I will say, this is a far better experience than I had back in 2021 when they first opened. While deciding whether to purchase a home in Mosier, I took a drive around the tiny town and when I saw this beautiful vineyard, I stopped in for a glass of wine. Back then their policy was you had to purchase a 3 bottle minimum just to do a tasting or have a glass of wine, so they suggested I come back with friends. I was highly offended. I wanted a glass of wine right there and then in their garden, but they wouldn't serve me. For years, I made no attempt to go back. Then a friend was having a birthday celebration there and insisted I join the celebration and give Analemma another try. I'm glad I did! They no longer have the 3 bottle minimum purchase before serving you policy, thankfully! It's now a very inviting place and the many customers sitting in the variety of spaces proves that creating a welcoming environment where people can try, and if they choose, purchase wines, is better for business and creating repeat customers.

Yelp
Such a delightful tour walking the vineyard rolling hillsides with a good breeze, while tasting a selection of red and white wines - connecting with the earth that produced these luscious wines - you will love it! Frank (our wine guide) was extremely knowledgable, passionate and friendly sharing the winery biodynamic practices and the wine tasting notes. He carried the wines in a satchel and we tasted as we walked around the vineyard. We visited the family Jersey cows grazing happily or resting in their grass lands. Frank talked about winery history and transformation of the farm cherry orchids to grapes. We finished tasting on the patio and selected some white and reds to go home with us. I always prefer drinking and supporting biodynamic wines - and the wine taste naturally great. Biodynamic wine is made by farming that eliminates the use of chemicals and uses natural materials and composts. Loving and taking care of the soil is good for making wine - and a giant step in sustainable agriculture to healing the planet. Following the biodynamic calendar is another integral part of the process. Analemma may use some natural sulfates. They are certified organic and biodynamic by Demeter (not-for-profit incorporated in1985 with the mission to enable people to farm successfully, in accordance with Biodynamic practices and principles). It may take many years for a winner to receive this certification. Cheers! I recommend this tour!

Yelp
Such a cute place to do a wine tasting! The staff was very friendly and knowable. The wines were great and their outdoor patio space was perfect (except they don't allow dogs).

Yelp
The wine was decent and they gave us six tastings instead of the five that were advertised however, beware. When we showed up They put a tasting menu before us and it said that if we were going to do a tasting that we were required to buy a minimum of three bottles. The bottles really were priced basically at $40 minimum. We called from the road as we were heading to the airport to fly out that day. I told them I didn't sign up for this online and that it was news to us and that We would leave if they were going to make me buy three bottles. I did tell them that I might buy some wine but I didn't want to be forced to buy it. To their credit, they told me that they would rather have stay and not be required to buy the wine, to their credit. They are still really getting started... The wine was interesting. The whites were definitely better than the reds.

Yelp
Visited quite a few wineries in the area and Analemma was our least favorite. The wine was nice, but nothing spectacular. The service was awkward and the seating uncomfortable. The strictly enforced three bottle minimum (in addition to the tasting fees) was over the top. Definitely a place I would recommend skipping if you are debating between this place or another.

Yelp
Awesome winery! Views A+ Service A+ Food A+ Wine A+ (Take this one with a grain of salt; I have the tastes of a peasant when it comes to wine) This is a wonderful spot to spend some time, especially in the fall.

Yelp
Analemma is an absolute joy. Nestled gently in the beautiful, Mosier Hills this intimate winery could not be more perfect. The space is modern yet unassuming with fresh, comfortable seating amongst natural & guided landscape. Each & every staff member with whom we've interacted has been nothing short of delightful, accommodating, & informative. And the wine. The wine is delicious. The Mosier Hills Blanco has become my go-to, & compliments abound whenever it's served in my home. The abundance & beauty of Mosier shines brightly here. Well done.

Yelp
If I could give 10 stars - I would! My first tasting experience and the staff outdid themselves. Extremely informative and kind, answered all of our questions and catered to us. They were busy and still very attentive to my group. Wine was delicious; view gorgeous; amazing staff. We even moved from outside to inside cellar/warehouse area during our tasting and it didn't phase them at all. I highly recommend you stop at this winery! You won't be disappointed.

Yelp
While camping near the little town of Mosier OR the wife, dogs and I went out to find a local adventure. We where pleasently surprised to find this gem of a winery. The Yelp reviews were all glowing, and the in person experience lived up to the reviews. Staff was friendly and knowledgeable. The Oak Ridge Gewürztraminer, and the Oak Ridge Chardonnay were both outstanding. They have a great outdoor tasting area and the dogs were welcomed. The only "downer" is the wind that the Columbia River Gorge is known for... Hardly something that the good folks at the winery could control. All in all I would highly recommend this winery to all! We will be back!

Yelp
A wonderful first experience at Analemma! Wonderful views, great seating, our pourer, Chris, was PHENOMENAL and an absolute gem! I loved every wine that we tasted and am so excited to come back again to bring more friends and show them how great this winery is. Ask about how they named the winery because that piece of information is pretty cool too (if you don't already know what an analemma is).

Yelp
My favorite winery in the Columbia Gorge! We had a great time on the vineyard tour and seated tasting. The wine was awesome and the staff was incredibly knowledgeable and friendly. The drive to Mosier and the winery are beautiful. Can't wait to go back next time we visit Hood River.

Yelp
Fantastic tasting room, delicious wine, kind and knowledgeable staff, and wonderful views. Doesn't get much better, especially for the value! The same experience in the Willamette Valley will cost you 2-3x as much. Definitely going back again soon.

Yelp
This winery is so amazing! The staff is informative about each wine and the service is the best in the gorge. They have a wonderful charcuterie tray that pairs great with the wine.

Yelp
Amazing. Wish I could give them more stars. Sweetest loveliest staff and delicious wines. The vineyard picnic was so thoughtfully and tastefully put together and the views were incredible. Definitely give them a try!
