"Angaar is a casual Indian restaurant on 73rd Street on the UWS where you can get some really good aloo gobi and a bunch of great curries. When you walk in, you’ll see roughly five tables and a staircase leading to the second floor dining area. Which is just to say that we wouldn’t bring a huge group here unless you want to feel like you’re squished into a dollhouse. This place is great for a casual date or catch up with a friend who probably wants to ask you for advice about wedding planning. They also do a vegetarian lunch special during the weekdays where you get dal, two vegetable dishes, rice, and naan for $13." - Hannah Albertine

Wonderful hidden gem! It only has 6 tables that fill very quickly. The best authentic Indian cuisine. The chicken curry is arguably the best I've ever had. Pair that with the garlic naan bread and you've got a great meal.

My father is 86 years old. He does not eat Indian food. I convinced him to go for Indian food this evening. You should see him right now, across from me, so happy. He said he had the best rack of lamb, ever, in this restaurant tonight. Thank you! I'm so grateful to see him happy. Food was wonderful.

I had a delicious meal at Angaar Classic Indian Cuisine. I gave five stars for everything except atmosphere. The restaurant is clean and looks good; do be aware the interior is very small. So, if you're looking to dine in, you should make a reservation. That's the only reason for the four stars for atmosphere. The food was delicious. The service was excellent. The wait staff was friendly and my food came out very quickly. I really enjoyed my meal. If the limited number of tables is a factor, there was a steady stream of delivery orders being picked up on a regular basis. If I lived on the UWS, I would definitely get delivery from Angarr.

Atmosphere (3/5): Right when you walk in, you are welcomed with the aroma of spices is intoxicating. You walk into a tight homey dining space that fits 10 people, connected right to the kitchen. There’s some half-outdoor dining available and then a second floor that overlooks the lower floor. The second floor can accommodate upwards of 15 people and the bathroom. Service (5/5): While the staff did not speak English very well, they were extremely welcoming and took the time to get to know me! They served everyone with a warmth and professionalism. I felt like I was a guest in their home. Food: The food was FIRE—there was such depth to the flavors Vegetable Samsoa (4/5): The samosa complemented well with the various dips! I felt like the inside could have been a Garlic Naan (4/5): I would definitely recommend getting 1 order per person as they were not terribly big but very nicely seasoned and soft. I wish they were saltier or had a bit more garlic flavor. Kashmiri Roganjosh (5/5): The lamb chunks were very tender. The curry was seasoned with a punch of flavors and just slightly spicy. I loved every bite. I commend the staff who have to run up and down with our orders!! Overall, very pleasant and delicious meal (and leftovers!)

Google
It’s a cozy restaurant with friendly and attentive staff. We got samosas, garlic naan, mushroom saag and chicken tikka masala. The portions were generous and it was all very tasty. The saag was a bit spicy for my husband so he asked for some yogurt to cool the spice. They charged us $6 extra for that. It was a necessary for him so for us it was worth the charge.

Google
The ambience is poor , definitely needs renovation, food is pretty average . Of all the other restaurants in NY this wasn’t convincing, do not suggest for dine in , small and uncomfortable. Not sure if I wanna comeback .

Google
My experience here was a 10/10. I have visited this place with my friends 3 times and all times have been great with no complaints. I ordered the Malai Chicken Kabab and ate it with white rice. My friends both got an order of Chicken Tikka Masala and we shared 2 orders of the Garlic Naan. The food was fresh and was ready quick, we only waited a few minutes after ordering. The staff was very attentive and welcoming. The food was delicious and the portions were great for the price. I look forward to going back with my friends and I recommend this for anyone looking to eat amazing Indian food.

Google
Love this place! The food is delicious, service is quick, and always enjoy my time here. I recommend the butter chicken, naan, chutneys, tandoori chicken, and biryani.

Yelp
I would recommend this place if you're in the mood for Indian food and are in the west side. There's not many Indian food places in the neighborhood but this one is great! The ambiance isn't fancy at all. The front patio area feels like a shed and the upstairs dining area is stuffy. But the flavors are great! We often get the paneer makhani as well as the bindi masala (okra) which they cook down dry. The breads are fresh and hot. The service is nice and polite! It's a refreshing restaurant amidst the slew of pizza and pasta that overwhelms the neighborhood.

Yelp
Good Indian food. I got the palak paneer and it was very simple. I wasn't bowled over by the flavors. It could have been spicier and had a little more oomph. Relatively cheap compared to some other Indian places. But also didn't get as much rice as a normal restaurant it seemed. Nice servers! Sat on the top floor. Not decorated super cute.

Yelp
Vibe: 4/10 Service: 10/10 - originally we were seated near the door which was a bit cold, but they moved us as soon as someone left! We really appreciated that Value: 6/10 Vegetable samosas: 7/10 Tandoori chicken: 7/10 - good, but not enough meat on the bones and didn't have as bold of flavors as other tandoori I've had Chicken tikka masala: 6/10 - good, rich and creamy, but was missing the flavor profile of a true tikka masala. Tasted more like a rich tomato soup Naan: 8.5/10 Overall: 6.93/10 (3.46/5)

Yelp
I was starving and looking for a nice meal. I got it and with great, kind service from Mir. I got the Malai Kofta which has delectable dumplings of vegetables inside it. It was so good. There's a sweetness to it too. I love Indian food without meat and this met that expectation. Lots of sauce. The rice was perfect. Mir recommended the Aloo Prantha, which is naan bread with mashed potatoes inside. It was good, and I'm glad he recommended it. Mir is smiley and kind the whole time. He made my experience wholesome and inviting. Total with tip came to $30. I was so full after. Perfect and very speedy. Mir and another woman came to fill my water a lot---appreciated!

Yelp
This is a really cute neighborhood spot. I really enjoyed the food and the service was extremely attentive. I recommend.

Yelp
We ordered and had food delivered on one of the rainiest Fridays in NYC's history. This Indian food was pure sunshine. Some of the best I have ever had. We kept it simple: butter chicken, a chicken curry, lamb in puréed spinach, garlic naan. Every sauce, every bite...just oh so wonderful. And such perfect light, light rice. Will try to check in to actual restaurant in near future.

Ilonachka N.

Yelp
Lunch special review I ordered a takeout lunch here, which came with three veggies , rice and naan. I really don't like saying this but the food barely had any flavor. True bummer since it's a great deal.

Nameeta M.

Yelp
We came here as a part of a party and while I don't have many pictures of the food we had, the food here was absolutely amazing. We had a little bit of everything but I distinctly remember the shrimp and chicken 65 appetizers, and all dishes were tasty in their own ways, and everything tasted very authentic. The service was excellent, and the owners are also extremely friendly and welcoming. You can tell by the wine pour they are generous with those as well. There are a few tables on the main floor but the 2nd floor has much more seating. Their takeout seems really popular, we could see a takeout order being picked up every few minutes for the entire 2ish hours we were there. I'd definitely recommend this restaurant!

Yelp
The food Here is wonderful. We had a different chicken dish. The one with the black pepper and curry it was phenomenal. The shrimp kadai was amazing. probably my favorite dish. They are jumbo shrimp. I wish there were more of them. The raita was very thick and flavorful and the vegetable.navralima was wonderful. Yum. The only disappointment was the Samosa. Which is a shame because I love samosas.

Iris F.

Yelp
A bit pricey for the small ish portions but solid Indian food! We walked in around 8pm on a Sunday and got a seat inside immediately. Ordered mango lassi, Kashmiri Roganjosh Curry, Lemon Rice, Saffron Rice, and butter chicken. Mango lassi was very smooth and more sweet / less tart than others I've had which is neither a good nor bad thing, overall hit the spot. The Kashmiri roganjosh was def better than the butter chicken bc the lamb in the Kashmiri was super tender but the chicken was pretty dry in butter chicken. In terms of the flavored rice, I really liked the lemon rice bc super flavorful and would eat it even on its own. Saffron rice went well with the curries but was a bit much on its own. Service was decently quick.

Yelp
I tragically was so hungry that I forgot to take photos of the food, but trust that we conquered. Angaar is a small place with just a few tables; there is an upstairs area, but I'm not sure how big that space is-- I just know it's there because my friend used the bathroom up there. We ended up sharing the chicken tikka masala, the chana masala, and an order of garlic naan. Both dishes were flavorful and delicious. Even though they came in small bowls, they lasted a long time with the rice, and we scooped out every drop of the sauces of both dishes before leaving the restaurant. Like, even after the chicken in the chicken tikka masala was gone, we were still going at that sauce. I would highly recommend the garlic naan-- so garlicky I could cry. It is somewhat pricey, but Indian food generally is so it was nothing I wasn't expecting. And I always judge service firstly on how full my water cup stays, and I'm happy to report that they always made sure it was full. I never had to ask for a water refill, and I think that is beautiful.

Miranda M.

Yelp
PLEASE stop being so stingy with the portions. I paid $5.50 for ONE piece of naan? And it wasn't even fresh. I had to remind the person that handed me my order that I was supposed to get two sides of rice - one for each dish, as is customary. How much does it take to make rice anyways? 50 cents? C'mon. This place always tries to get away with one rice dish for two people. The amount of chicken in the dishes has decreased as well. I would gladly eat here more often if I felt it was worth the price. Instead, I feel robbed. It's unfortunate because the food is so good. The sauces taste great but omg.. I'm disappointed each time because the portions just get smaller and smaller. Please for the love of god give your customers more food.

Jyoti G.

Yelp
Good fresh food! Service was good! Clean restroom is plus being close to a busy area.

Yelp
I had dinner here last night and had the best experience! First off, the restaurant is cozy and welcoming. We were greeted by all of the employees and got to chat with them about recommendations and their Diwali celebrations. Jaman and Mir were so friendly, usually I order in but I will be coming back to dine in because everyone is so welcoming. Now to the food: Chicken tikka masala- amazing, classic Lamb Korma- very flavorful and tender meat Chicken biryani- new dish for me, it was so good and spicy, they provided a white sauce for the biryani and I highly recommend the combo! Garlic naan- a classic, perfectly executed Mango Lassi- also new for me and I loved it, very creamy and not too sweet, so good! Overall, it was a great experience, I will be coming back!

Ana W.

Yelp
This restaurant is a gem in the neighborhood ! always amazing food and amazing desserts! it's small but has amazing ser (we loved Mir!) attentive and sweet! It's a place you must visit!

Juan T.

Yelp
Super solid Indian restaurant with a lovely interior design. We stumbled in on a Saturday night without a reservation and were promptly seated downstairs. The server was very kind and gracious with us as we asked about the menu. To eat we had: Vegetable samosa: a classic done well. The filling was flavorful and tasted fresh. They also served them with a side of pickled onion (I think) that was sharp and complimented the fried dough. Lamb tikka masala: I loved this dish, the sauce was wonderfully spiced and the meat was soft with just a little bit of fat that provided a rich and satisfying flavor. Would recommend! Dal Makhani: not necessarily my favorite, just because of the texture, but the flavor profile was on point. A subtle level of spice anyone can get behind. Overall, I can't find anything to complain about and would definitely recommend this place to a friend.

Vishnu G.

Yelp
I have eaten here a few times and have enjoyed each visit. The food here is of good quality. I like the mutter paneer in particular - it tastes practically homemade, which I really love.

Gabrielle D.

Yelp
Came here for a quick dinner before a concert at the Beacon Theatre. Very small restaurant, food delivery workers in and out, but worth the amazing food!

Sawako Y.

Yelp
We ordered delivery from Angaar for the first time last night. Overall, the food was tasty but it was a bit pricey for what it was. We ordered the following from Uber Eats since we had an offer, but the prices are actually slightly cheaper through other delivery platforms: - Chicken Zafrani ($18+): cooked in cashew nut sauce, herbs and flavors with saffron - Aloo Gobi ($15+): florets of cauliflower and potatoes cooked in a wok with cumin seeds, tomato, herbs and spices - Naan ($4+) - Rosemary Naan ($5+) The Chicken Zafrani was creamier than I expected with a hint of spiciness and it was delicious. There wasn't a whole lot of chicken in it, which was fine, but it felt overpriced considering. The basmati rice which came with it was cooked perfectly and I loved it. The Aloo Goni was good, too, but it was more like an overpriced appetizer. The naan, unfortunately, was a disappointment. I love naan so we ordered 2, but they weren't fresh and tasted like they'd been sitting there for a while. Considering they're $4 to $5+ each, we had higher expectations. We did enjoy the meal overall, but would be more selective in what we order in the future.

Jennifer A.

Yelp
I loved the lamb vindaloo! I asked for it medium spicy and thought it was the perfect level of hot. The curry was decently portioned for the price and came with rice, but obviously I got a side order of the garlic naan -- it's a must! I would also recommend getting the mango lassi if you get the curry -- every spicy food needs a sweet drink to go with! The restaurant itself is pretty cozy but there's a decent amount of outdoor, covered seating. I went at 7 pm on a Saturday without reservations, and was able to be seated right away. I'll definitely be returning!

Jatin A.

Yelp
Angaar in UWS is a solid spot for not-so-expensive Indian meals. We were there on a Tuesday at around 5, and the place was empty, so we requested a spot in the seating area above. We ordered a lamb kadai and butter chicken. The lamb kadai was well made, and the dish was populated with generous portions of onions and peppers. Rozena liked it particularly, and preferred it to the butter chicken dish which she thought was a tad too sweet. I like my butter chicken sweet, and so I wasn't complaining too much.

Divya S.

Yelp
Delivery order: really mediocre/substandard food; we were quite disappointed since Yelp reviews were good. At best it tastes like something you'd get in a mall food court: paneer makhani was cloyingly sweet and otherwise bland. At worst it was inedible: saffron chicken dish tasted off, possibly spoiled? Definitely not fresh. We tossed most of the meal unfortunately. Unclear how they manage such good reviews.

Wendy Y.

Yelp
I don't eat Indian food often so take my opinion with a grain of salt! The restaurant was packed with patrons on this particular Friday night, so we were lucky we had a reservation. Even though I was 15 mins late, they were kind enough to still hold our table. The ambiance here is slightly upscale casual. My friends and I decided to dine family style so we could try a variety of dishes. We ordered Garlic Naan, Vegetable Jalfrezie, Butter Chicken, and Chicken Tikka Masala. Our food came out pretty quickly, and what a spread it was! Each table gets a dish of rice to share and I would say most of the dishes here are too rich to be eaten alone. The Butter Chicken and Tikka masala were so creamy and delicious! The garlic naan was crispy and exploding with garlic flavor. The Vegetable Jalfrezie may sound lackluster but provided a nice contrast to the richness of the other dishes. My sweet, yet refreshing Mango Lassi was a great way to quench my thirst after the meal. The food here is definitely authentic and delicious. Stop by for an intimate family style meal.

Stephanie K.

Yelp
Love aangar, this is our go-to place for a low key dinner on a weeknight. The daal makani is fantastic, my favorite vegetarian dish. Sooooo flavorful and delicious. And the staff are really nice, great service every time!

Chrizstopher C.

Yelp
Ordered lunch from here today. I ordered through the Yelp site on Angaar's page. When i called Angaar to ask if the food was ready for me to pick up and said i ordered through Yelp, the man said "we don't use Yelp". That immediately made me nervous as i paid $40 with my credit card for the lunch. I reviewed the email from Yelp and it said powered by Grubhub in small print. Regardless, it said Yelp in large letters and the email was from Yelp. Anyway, when i went to pick up my lunch, i wanted to share the email with the rude man who answered the phone so that he would know that there is a link on their page on Yelp to order food so that he does not make the next person panic. He waved me away - rude again! Had he not been rude twice, I would not have left a review and said that the food was overpriced and mediocre.

Susan W.

Yelp
Very average experience for lunch. Stopped in for a quick lunch while I was in the area. Had the lunch special. Very small portions. As soon as they set it in front of me, I knew I was going to be disappointed. The chicken tikka masala - the two pieces of chicken were very dry and tasteless. The curry sauce was very thin and bland Saag paneer - slightly undercooked. I could taste salt and pepper. It was over salted yet oddly bland. The naan was very good. The chickpea wasn't bad either. Overall, a very meh experience.

Rustle J.

Yelp
Overpriced, limited selection, and negligent packaging. Their sloppiness was immediately apparent when entering, and extended throughout the process of ordering and retrieving their lackluster takeout.

Hidy C.

Yelp
Ordered delivery online. The Chicken Tikka masala was okay, the chicken is a bit dry. The garlic naan(5.5 USD) is a very small portion, we think it's too pricey!

Heidi M.

Yelp
This was some of the best Indian food I've ever had. The naan bread alone made it so worth it. The naan was a little thicker and nice and soft, which I absolutely loved! The samosas were perfectly crispy and flaky on the outside. So good! Both the tiki masala and butter chicken had wonderful flavor. Definitely recommend both! My kids really loved the mango lassi if you want a sweet drink.

Margaret S.

Yelp
Food is really tasty, and I'm a vegan who eats here a lot. But check carefully about ingredients if you have any food you need to avoid. For example, almost all lentil soups you'll find in Indian restaurants are vegan. Angaar's lentil soup has cream, but this is not mentioned on the menu. You have to ask. Also of concern is the young male waiter who tends to work at lunchtime. Though I have tried to gently explain the difference to him more than once, he appears to think "vegan" and "gluten free" are synonymous. So I suggest ask your server if there is any dairy/meat/eggs in a dish, rather than asking if it is vegan. It seems the middle aged woman who often is the server in the evenings knows the difference between the terms.

Nadav D.

Yelp
The food remained my the food or North Indian. The place doesn't pretentious at all, and it keeps maintaining its automaticity.

Kathy X.

Yelp
After a picnic and hanging out in Central Park, a few friends and I went in search for a place to have dinner. One of my friends mentioned that there was an Indian restaurant nearby, which was perfect because I was craving that type of cuisine. We were seated immediately and were well taken care of throughout the meal. I had a tough time choosing what to order because there were so many wonderful sounding options. I finally decided to try the lamb biryani. I was definitely not disappointed. The lamb biryani was served in a thick-bottomed bowl and covered with naan-like bread on top. This was the first time I saw it presented in this way and I found it to be delightful. The waitress showed the table how to break open the bread with the large serving spoon, thus allowing us to get to the basmati rice mixed with marinated lamb and a medley of vegetables, including onion, peas, and carrots. The bread was tasty - Slightly crisp with a great texture. The biryani rice was full of aromatic seasoning and the lamb was melt in your mouth tender, flavorful, and juicy. I also got to try the rosemary naan, which was nicely buttery with fresh rosemary herb sprinkled on top. Mmmmm! My friend ordered the lamb chops, which looked amazing and was a decent portion size. It came with a fresh side salad, consisting of spinach, tomatoes, cucumber, and a bit of dressing. The service was fantastic and our waitress was lovely. She made us feel welcome and we knew we were in good hands. The prices are pretty good, averaging around $20 per entrée, which is comparable to other places in the area. I would certainly be open to returning to sample other dishes and the Mango Lassi, which I neglected to have this time around.

Tod R.

Yelp
The people who served us seem like wonderful people. The food was ok, but not outstanding. The Tika M had very nicely prepared chicken, but the sauce tasted like Campbell Soup to me. The nan was ok. The soup was the most interesting and tasty, but pretty expensive for the portion side. Anyhow, I had a nice meal, but nothing special.

Shamali P.

Yelp
The food was delicious! We were visiting from out of town and the food was ready on time for pickup and we ate it in our hotel room! Yum!

Fred S.

Yelp
This place has perfect-casual & pleasant service/ & the best Indian food I've ever eaten. And. I'm. picky.

Amanpreet K.

Yelp
Super delicious Indian food on the UWS! We tried many different things and everything tasted very authentic. Highly recommend checking out the chicken dishes and the malai kofta. Knocked off a star due to some service issues but overall, would recommend Angaar if you're looking for a solid Indian meal in the neighborhood. We'll be back!

Isabel W.

Yelp
Everything at Angaar is amazing! The food is delicious, the service is wonderful (Mir was our waiter and he was fantastic), and the ambience is great!! I'll definitely be coming back to this place!

Kendra C.

Yelp
So delicious! I stopped in here after a long bike ride on a hot day. The portions were smaller than I thought it'd be considering the price but, it was still very filling. We ordered garlic naan to have with the tamarind chutney which had the perfect kick. The lamb korma was phenomenal with the chutney as well. It was super flavorful and creamy, no one spice was overpowering. Our waiter who was running the whole place when we were there was incredibly welcoming and prompt.

Nancy G.

Yelp
Amazing Indian food produced in a tiny space. The tandoori shrimp are exceptional. Great service.

Tanya K.

Yelp
So, I ordered a lunch special for pickup that included lamb, Palak Paneer and Dahl of the day with Naan. Dahl had great flavor, Palak Paneer was okay enough but I've had better. The lamb was very dry but had good flavor. Naan was fine. My paneer had a piece of soft plastic in it, as if it had been prepared or frozen in a bag and cut into and poured into my container. The "plastic" looked like the top of that piece of plastic that would have been cut into... if that makes sense? Anyway, I also ordered dessert and a Ginger Mint Lemonade. The lemonade had more of a "green juice" consistency and look to it but it was quite tasty and my dessert (Kesari Malai Kheer) was just okay. I would order from here again but perhaps a vegetarian dish because nothing is worse than dry, chewy meat.

Bruce R.

Yelp
So I did delivery and really enjoyed the butter chicken, lentils were really really good.

Kimberly K.

Yelp
Yes yes yes !!! I love this spot !!! I wouldn't go anywhere else for Indian food expect here!

Michelle R.

Yelp
They had outdoor seating and no wait for dinner which was great. The prices were reasonable. I ordered the butter chicken and the garlic naan and both were delicious. I would go back again if I was in the area.

Alexia G.

Yelp
I was very pleased with the service here. Everyone was so friendly and kind. It's such a cozy restaurant with an upstairs seating. I am so sad that it wasn't a five star rating because I wanted to like it. The restaurant offers a lot of options for vegetarians and non vegetarians. I ordered lamb saag, and chicken tandoori. The lamb saag was good but the lamb was not as soft as I would have liked, and the saag was very puréed and creamy (depending on different restaurants some are more puréed and creamier than others and I prefer more of a hearty spinach with more ginger and garlic and less cream). The tandoori chicken had a lot of flavor and had a nice Smokey charred grilled taste. Nonetheless, I was disappointed that it was on the bone. I think this definitely would add more flavor but I like having chunks/Kebob style. Rice is very fluffy. We would have ordered dessert but we were brought the check right away and we weren't asked if we wanted to have dessert or tea. Indian desserts are our favorite. I am not going to say I wouldn't return but I wasn't very impressed. My stomach wasn't also in the best shape later that evening (and Indian food is 90% of my diet and this never happens).

Paige H.

Yelp
Yum!!! The food was AWESOME... we got the following: Mulligatawny Soup, Bhindi Masala, Garlic Naan, Kadai Chicken, Tandoori Chicken--we all were so full and so happy!! There was a lot of salt, so hydrate :) The manager was so sweet, as well.

Dawn F.

Yelp
Took a chance and came into this tiny Indian restaurant while walking from the Museum of Nat Hist. Food was great, perfect level of spice. Service was also very good, waiters very friendly Doesn't look like much, just a hole in the wall, but I would recommend for sure.

Susie K.

Yelp
My family has eaten at this restaurant five times in the past 10 days. The food is delicious, spiced well and authentic Indian. One can order chili level of mild or medium. We ordered the following dishes: aloo gobi, chana saag, butter chicken, kadai chicken, chicken biryani, raitha, roti, basmati rice, kulfi. Every one of these was EXCELLENT! The food comes out piping hot, proportions are large and will feed 2 people, pricing is reasonable, you order what do you want and are not forced to pay per person (as is the case with several other NYC Indian restaurants).

Marcellermo N.

Yelp
My girlfriend and I love Indian food and even though we have our favorites in the neighborhood, decided to try this one. Were sat promptly upon arrival and in the menu found two dishes we enjoy in other restaurants to compare. Ordered Chicken Tikka Sagwala and Kashmiri Roganjosh plus garlic naan. The waiter wasn't writing down, just staring at me and said "ok". We like white wine with our Indian meals so we picked a couple available by the glass and asked the waiter if we could taste these two wines which he replied "you can't taste the wines but the Malbec is good". My girlfriend and I looked at each other then told him the two wines we wanted to try were white. He quickly replied "the Sauvignon Blanc is good here". We already realized he wasn't knowledgeable and decided not to have a beverage other than water with our meals. Waiter comes back 3 or 4 minutes later asking me what dishes I had order... he said "chicken tikka masala and what else?". I replied "no, chicken tikka Sagwala and Kashmiri Roganjosh. No tikka masala". At that point I was pretty frustrated and just wanted to leave. After that, food didn't take longer than 5 minutes to arrive. Dishes came with plenty of rice and flavors were "good". Waiter seemed attentive with a table across from us but never came to us to ask if everything was ok. Once we were done waiter asked if we wanted dessert. We just wanted the check. He dropped the check and left without saying a word. In the check he wrote down the total in big numbers. That total included an additional dish: the chicken tikka masala we NEVER ORDERED. Waved and a lady (I assumed was one of the owners) came to the table and I explained the issue with the total without mentioning the bumpy experience. She came back with the right check and apologized about it. We had big expectations due to the 4 plus stars on Yelp but it started crumbling since the minute we sat. -Guests can't taste a wine they want to purchase. You're already losing money. -Waiter offers a red wine when you are interested in a white wine. You don't have a good seller. Needs beverages pairing training. -Waiter doesn't remember the order but he doesn't write it down either. You're likely come back and interrupt the guest unnecessarily. -You don't come to the table after the food was delivered to check if guests are doing ok. You don't have vocation for service. -Waiter drops the check and writes down the total in huge numbers, but... didn't review the check for mistakes like having an extra item added. We love our neighborhood and support local businesses as much as we can but money doesn't fall from trees and for the same money we can eat and many restaurant along the Upper West Side where we feel welcomed, the ambience is good, the food is great AND we can taste a wine before ordering a bottle.

Yelp
This place was Naaaann for me - We ate outside in their outdoor "dining" area which was more like a shack. Had to find the waiter and ask him to stick a wedge under the wobbly table after our water glasses spilled on it. I ordered the chicken chettinad, since I have had this before, and my friend got the chicken vindaloo and a side of garlic naan. The chettinad was creamy and only had 3 tiny pieces (more like chunks) of chicken which were hard find and hard to cut because they were so dry. Not as good as other places. Tasted the vindaloo and that was just pure fire. I like hot spicy food but it just obliterated any other flavor. The rice and garlic naan were very tasty - just as you would expect - light and fluffy rice and garlicky, crispy naan. The portions were on the small side but it was just as well since I wasn't really enjoying it. Even though the place didn't seem too busy the waiter was like my chicken - hard to find. Prices were average and so was the food. Overall it was good enough for a rainy day late lunch but next time I'll think twice and grab a bite somewhere else.
