"In Midtown, Annam Cafe is a casual Vietnamese restaurant from a Vietnamese chef, from Hello Saigon in Greenwich Village, and the group behind spots like Upon the Palace and The Corner Chinese. They’ve got rice and vermicelli bowls, banh mi, and pho, and all the noodles are made in-house. It’s a casual, orange and yellow space that could be a good new lunch option just south of Bryant Park." - will hartman, bryan kim

The initial taste of the Pho blew my mind. I enjoyed the broth and noodles so much. I was genuinely surprised that a new place like this could be so good. The best parts were the beef and noodles. The atmosphere here is more to-go like they want you to hurry out with bright lights and fast-food like decor. However it's a good place for conversation with music being at the right level and plenty of seating. If you want amazing Pho then this is totally worth it. The add-ons cost too much when they should probably just be included with your meal. I can't believe a bag of tea in hot water costs $5. I would skip extras on your Pho except for maybes Vietnamese coffee. The manager or possibly owner was very nice in checking in on how everything was. The cashier staff is still very new. Overall I definitely recommend it but you could end up spending way more than you intended on what (in my opinion) should be included or much cheaper than it is.

Amazing authentic pho! The atmosphere is warm and inviting. The chicken pho is delicious and flavorful, it comes with lemon and pepper mixture to dip the chicken in. It brightens up the flavor. The sweet potato waffle fries and chicken wings are so crunchy too. I got a latte and sting, they were both delicious. I forgot to take more pictures but this place is amazing!! :)

Annam Cafe is a true gem! Their chicken pho is one of the best I’ve had— flavorful broth with perfectly cooked noodles. The spring rolls are a must-try, fresh and perfectly fried. The service is exceptional; the staff is friendly, attentive, and always willing to offer recommendations. Will definitely come back!

New Vietnamese restaurant that replaced Cibo- a local deli breakfast/ lunch spot. Best way to describe Annam Cafe is good, clean food. Pho was good! I purchased the Chichen pho and my friend got the thin beef known as “raw beef” on the menu. Cashier explained to us how people like to customize their pho with hot sauce, hoisin or other sauces. The restaurant is new so they don’t have pictures or a menu on the wall, but the atmosphere is still nice as well. Very modern and clean. Nice staff. I’ll be back. Hopefully as time moves on, more folks will come in. I can see this place being very busy in the future.

Got the Saigon pho, summer roll and spring roll. It was great. Went with a Vietnamese friend and he said it was authentic, just like Mom made. Looking forward to coming back for lunch. As you can see from the photo it was good!

This is a spot located in the middle of the street, making it a bit harder to spot unless you're a local traversing through between 5th and 6th Avenue. This spot replaces Cibo, filling in a space with something that is a bit harder to find in this area unless you look. Annam Cafe is pretty barebones in both restaurant and menu. They offer primarily pho and banh mi, two of the most well-known Vietnamese dishes in America, probably. They also offer vermicelli bowls and some sides like cha gio (spring rolls), and also Vietnamese coffee. The food is pretty good. I would say the cha gio is better than the combination pho I had of brisket and sliced eye of round. I think they poured on the broth and brought the bowl to me a minute or so late, so the raw beef had already cooked when it came before me. The broth itself is clean and light. It doesn't have as much spice flavor (star anise, cinnamon, etc.) as I would like, but it is easy to drink. The cha gio was delightfully fried and crispy, served with a very mild nuoc Cham for dipping (no chilis added). The space itself has been cleaned up but not too changed. You still have the counter of ingredient assembly and the elongated interior. But it feels more stripped down, without signs and extra racks for goods. You simply order, sit down, and wait for your food. The decor is different from usual Vietnamese restaurants that have wooden interiors. And the cutlery is split between reusable and not. Staff was pretty much one person, which was fine since there wasn't many patrons until after I left. Server was friendly and made sure to ask how the food was. Overall, not a bad place for lunch once in a while. Prices are definitely on par with the area, so it's not unreasonable.
