Boston’s Best Soups

"Ribbollita, a classic Tuscan bean and vegetable soup that’s thickened with stale bread, could be the ideal snow day slurp. Head to Antico Forno in the North End, beg for a seat near the fireplace and warm your soul." - Tanya Edwards, Rachel Leah Blumenthal

The Best Restaurants In The North End

"Based on looks alone, Antico Forno appears to be one of those kitschy North End spots that caters to tourists and people who expect their Italian restaurants to come with unlimited breadsticks. But don’t be fooled by the hokey rustic decor and traditional red sauce menu - the brick oven they use for just about every dish really does bring their pastas up a notch and makes it a great place to hide with wine during a snowstorm." - dan secatore

"Pizza Favorite in the North End Brick oven classics come out of the kitchen in this North End mainstay. The traditional beehive shaped, wood burning oven makes great thin crusted pizza with all the traditional toppings. Mushroom and artichoke just happens to be my favorite. Fresh ingredients, good sized portions and Mom and Pop atmosphere keep this busy place on a short list of Italian family favorites. They also have gluten free pasta by request."

Antico Forno - Review - North End - Boston - The Infatuation

"Does Antico Forno on Salem Street kind of look like an Olive Garden? Yes, but because it’s old enough to oversleep and miss its 9am Con Law class, we’ll let it slide. Just about everything on the menu here gets tossed into a brick oven, and the result is a lot of pasta dishes you’ll be craving every time it snows." - Dan Secatore

An amazing experience all around! The food, atmosphere, and customer service were excellent. The bread with olive oil was AMAZING. The Cosmo was a good, the Caprese salad and vegan ravioli were perfect, spaghetti & strawberry gelato was a strong 9/10, and the Prosecco was great. Overall, a fantastic meal with great flavors, highly recommended! Try the lunch special, was not disappointed. Music was nice.

Google
Antico Forno is a cozy, rustic gem in the North End that delivers consistently great Italian food in a warm, inviting setting. The name means “old oven,” and the wood-fired flavors absolutely live up to it. Their brick oven pizza is a must—thin, crispy, and full of flavor. We’ve also loved their pasta dishes and especially the risotto, which is rich, comforting, and perfectly cooked. Great portion sizes, too. It’s a solid spot for both vegetarians and meat lovers, with plenty of variety on the menu. The vibe is casual but lively, and it’s a great place to bring friends, family, or even out-of-town guests looking for that authentic North End experience. Tip: It can get busy, especially on weekends, so reservations are a good idea. Service is fast and friendly, and prices are fair for the quality and location.

Google
A great Italian restaurant in Little Italy that serves authentic Italian Food. We started with some drinks which turned out to be pretty good and with a calamari dish for appetizers . For mains, we got lobster ravioli with shrimp and spaghetti carbonara which were really delicious and quantity seemed pretty decent for the price you pay for. For desert,we got the tiramisu and lemonchello cake. The tiramisu by far was star of the show as it was really amazing and it had quite a unique kick to it with the expresso they used instead of rum that many places . That one piece of cake was 12$ which is slightly on expensive side, but it's worth every bite of it!! Would highly recommend trying this restaurant out if visiting North end.

Just had the most incredible Italian dining experience at Antico Forno, and it’s officially one of our favorite spots! We kicked things off with the vegan ravioli—absolutely delicious and full of rich, savory flavor. It’s a must-try for anyone, vegan or not. Then came the La Vegetariana pizza, loaded with fresh, colorful veggies on a perfectly crisp, wood-fired crust. We also ordered the gnocchi di patate and classic Olio e Aglio pasta, which were both flawless—the gnocchi was soft and pillowy, while the pasta was simple, garlicky, and packed with bold, comforting flavor. The sautéed broccoli rabe added a nice bitter bite that balanced everything out. To top it all off, we sipped on a refreshing virgin mojito and finished with creamy chocolate and vanilla ice cream. Every dish felt fresh, homemade, and made with love. Whether you’re plant-based or just love good Italian food, Antico Forno is a must-visit! #AnticoForno #VeganRavioli #OlioEAglio #GnocchiLovers #ItalianFoodie #FoodieHeaven #PizzaLovers #VeganItalian #ComfortFoodGoals #HiddenGemEats #ViralFoodReel #InstaFoodie #FoodReels #TastyEats #VeganInspo #PlantBasedEats #MojitoVibes #NYCFoodie #PastaGoals #ReelItFeelIt #bostonfood #bostonfood #bostonfoodies

Antonio did us right! This place has amazing food and exceptional service even when it was crazy busy. Antonio was friendly and gave us a great experience all around. Definitely worth going if you are in Little Italy!

Google
As soon as I stepped into the restaurant, there was a buzz, and so busy, you need* a reservation. I was unprepared so I decided to get take out, because I knew when I stepped in, I was in the right place for food (despite the many restaurants in the area). I got the lasagna and meatballs, and the food was ready in less than 20 minutes, so it wasn't a long wait. When I came back to pick up my food, the restaurant was even busier than when I placed the order 20 minutes prior. Delicious!!

Google
We had such a great time at Antico Forno! We are just in Boston for two days and had this recommended by a friend. We are so glad we went! The food was AMAZING - I could literally eat the same thing every day if I could. Anthony was the best and checked in on us often. The atmosphere was so warm, with the whole restaurant cheering for a groom-to-be and singing for someone’s birthday. It definitely had a family-run kind of vibe. All around, we would 100% come back if we are back in Boston! Thank you for a great evening.

Google
OMG, everything was delicious. Six of us got 6 different meals and all were amazing, antipasto, pasta, pizza and some of the best cocktails we'd had in Boston. A must if your in the neighborhood and make reservations. It's always busy.

Yelp
Crowded Sat night was handled well by the staff. Food was very good. Pasta, pizza, apps were all tasty. For being a typical small north-end space, we didn't feel cramped when we were at the table.

Yelp
It's a casual environment, but even on a frigid January Thursday night, it was jam-packed. Always a good sign. When I'm trying a new Italian restaurant, I usually get the chicken parm. It's honestly the easiest way to tell the overall quality of the food (and the kitchen). At least half the time, I'm let down or worse, but the chicken parm at Antico Forno is literally the best I've ever had at a restaurant. That alone is reason enough to return--and we will!!

Yelp
The bolognese was delicious!! I got rigatoni and it was perfectly cooked. Service was great (our waitress was named Heydy and she was so sweet) and the place has a warm feel. We were late but they were considerate about it which was appreciated (hard to park in Boston!) House rolls were included and the tables had olive oil. Food came out quickly after! Overall a great Italian bite in the North End :)

Yelp
The ambiance is quite nice for a casual hangout! Service was great and food was not bad for the price point! I came here with a friend on a snowy Friday night and there were a decent amount of seats. I split with my friend on the caprese salad, lasagna bolognese, and arancini. The arancini was delicious! Definitely a must-get! There's two in one order and it was one of the best arancinis I've had. I felt like the caprese salad was okay, I think the portion could have been better and there could have been more greens. The lasagna looked small but was actually quite hefty for the two of us to share! It was delicious though! The staff was really great as well! Overall, I thought it was a nice a place and wouldn't mind going again to try their other pastas.

Yelp
I recently went to Antico Forno for a birthday dinner after hearing great things about the place. Unfortunately, despite having a reservation, we waited about 30 minutes to be seated. It wasn't the best start, but once inside, the warm smiles and cozy atmosphere, reminiscent of Italy, helped set a nice tone. For the meal, I ordered the Spaghetti con Pomodoro, while my friends had the Lasagna Primavera and Lasagna Bolognese. The lasagna dishes were fantastic--rich, flavorful, and well-made. My spaghetti, however, was overcooked and too soft, though the flavor was still enjoyable. The complimentary slice of Tiramisu was also pretty delicious. For drinks, we tried the Pistachio Martini and Margarita. The Martini was smooth and delicious, but the Margarita overly sweet with an odd taste. Overall, it was a mixed experience with some great highlights, but a few missteps.

Yelp
We had a great time here! The food was really good, and we loved how cozy and homey it felt inside with the fireplace. Would definitely recommend a reservation, as it was very popular! We got the gnocchi, rigatoni, and the bolognese pizza. The pasta was good, but the pizza was really where this place shines! The crust was excellent and the flavor was amazing. They at one point brought us the wrong thing, and ended up crediting us 10 dollars for the mishap without us even asking, which I thought was excellent service as well. Would recommend!

Yelp
Very loud and crowded but it was a Saturday ight in the north end after a bruins game! Great service. Meatballs were delicious. Veal parm was great. Sauce could use a bit more flavor (red pepper!) margarita pizza delicious and fresh hot rolls out of the oven.
google avatar

Yelp
Friendly service, great pizza. I love a good neapolitan and this fit the bill. The bottom crust is thin, and the outer crust is airy, sweet, and chewy. Literally perfect. Arancini were good, but to be honest I've never had a bad one lol. But these were crispy, soft, stuffed, and cheesy, everything was perfect about them. We came around 2 on a Friday, and there was ample seating. Get the pizza!

Yelp
Came here with a large group for an early Sunday dinner. We had a reservation but still ended up having to wait a little bit once we were there. It is a decent sized space and about half the restaurant was booked separately for a private event (I think a wedding reception) so there was a lot of hustle and bustle. Our food came out quickly and was tasty. The portions were pretty big as well!

Sarah C.

Yelp
Good pizza, there was a long wait even with a reservation but wasn't as long as it could have been since they were very busy.

Yelp
I love dining in The North End and Antico Forno is a favorite. Monday night, the food did not disappoint. The only let down was they did not have their windows open on a gorgeous summer night in the 70's. My spaghetti con pomodoro was divine. Our waitress was good, but we never got rolls despite having bread plates and seeing someone passing them out from a basket once I was done.
google avatar

Shevani T.

Yelp
the food was good and the portions were great, although the hostess was a bit rude and the restaurant was packed, giving it a bit of a chaotic feel. wouldn't recommend for large parties
google avatar

Yelp
One day I will bring my children here the way my parent's brought me as a child. Telling stories of old wonders and mysteries over food that has maintained the same quality for decades and decades. I long for this moment. Until then, these burgers will not make themselves. I must put the fries in the bag.
google avatar

Brandon T.

Yelp
Love the food, the inside is intimate and service is brisk. Came here with my family and shared a pizza and pasta. Got the Traditional pizza with sausage and pepperoni, tasted delicious and fresh. The pasta was good as well and has good meat flavor. Would come back!

Yelp
We stopped in for dinner before the Celtics game. Convenient location. I enjoyed the Involtini Di Melanzane- perfect serving size. My friend had the Romano pizza- anchovies and capers and she enjoyed it. The service was friendly and attentive. We appreciated the many food options on the menu. Will definitely stop back to try some other menu choices.
google avatar

Chirag P.

Yelp
Service: Top notch and attentive, no complaints there. I went right near 5 pm, so dodged the dinner rush that came in as I got my food. Ambiance: cozy place, medium amount of seating. I got my own two person high table so plenty of room. I get why restaurants do low lighting but ki d of wish they didn't lol felt basement like, but kind of goes with the brick oven vibe. Food: Veal Parm was great, came out hot with sides still bubbling. Spaghetti was nice and soft, but not overcooked, definitely tasted fresh. Definitely on the top list of North End places.
google avatar

Martin S.

Yelp
Great service for a group of 7 people. Pizza was amazing, and several vegan pasta options got thumbs up.
google avatar

Sema T.

Yelp
Yum yum yum. I never turn down a chance to have homemade pasta in the north end, and Antico Forno doesn't disappoint. The menu offers a variety of options for any taste, though I'd have loved more options with beef or chicken. The team will bring around some very warm and well baked bread, but you'll have to ask for more when your meal comes if you're a dipper. The space is lovely, with a lot of tables, but the layout could be more efficient. You WILL be very close to other tables, and you'll have to have your entire party with you in order to be seated so plan accordingly.
google avatar

Anirudh G.

Yelp
Both pizzas were well cooked and crisp. The crust was light and airy. Truffle oil was a nice touch on the white pizza. Ambiance similar to other restaurants in north end, being a little crowded.
google avatar

Yesenia C.

Yelp
We visited this restaurant for the first time and it was definitely worth the visit. Ordered a pizza and it did not disappoint. It was so good. Service was good and we seated pretty quickly. The inside was on the smaller side yet comfortable.
google avatar

Alisha ..

Yelp
We ordered the lasagna primavera, salmon, and fusilli. I enjoyed both pastas as they were very cheesy. However, the salmon was dry and didn't have much flavor. The restaurant was cozy with a warm vibe. The staff were accommodating and pretty friendly. Overall, I would recommend their pastas and I've heard great things about their pizzas too!
google avatar

Yelp
Delicious food on a rainy, Thursday, evening. Pizza, eggplant, and the veal- all were hearty portions. Anthony was a very attentive server.
google avatar

Mimi C.

Yelp
I can't believe I've never heard of this place in my life. This place has to be one of North End's top 2 authentic Italian restaurant, it's definitely on my list. Their sauce is the soul to the deliciousness of each dish! The ambiance is casually romantic with its exposed brick walls. The service was friendly. Do not miss this place when you're in the North End!
google avatar

Gunnar F.

Yelp
The food is definitely top notch but the wait for a table is ~ almost ~ not worth it. Even with a reservation, don't expect to be sat on time during dinner Thurs-Saturday. With that said, the service is quick and attentive, and its a good spot if you have a free night.
google avatar

Rick C.

Yelp
Good "old school " Italian restaurant in the North End. Beers on tap, a great pizza menus and TVs to watch sports for those so inclined.

Yelp
This friendly, clean and classic little Italian restaurant hit the spot during a visit to Boston. So much that we actually ate here 3 out of 5 nights! Night one my teen and I ate in the restaurant. To be honest the service was a tad casual or slow, perhaps because we arrived in the last hour they were open. We sat there for nearly ten minutes without a hello or water from the server. Despite there being no other parties waiting for service. But the rest of the evening made up for the lackluster start. We had an antipasto plate that featured several delicious cold cuts, cheeses and olives. We also had the pasta bolognese and it was very tasty. Two other nights we ordered pizzas to pickup. The mushroom pizza and the prosciutto one were both delicious with a thin crispy crust. Be aware if you order take out on an app you will not get an update when it's ready! (I used two different apps). The pizza will be ready within a few minutes so just head over asap. Hostess staff were friendly and also very helpful when my teen left her headphones there the first night. Definitely give them a try if you're in the North End!
google avatar

Liza F.

Yelp
We were able to move up our reservation nearly 45 min, which was very nice! The ambiance was quaint and personal, there were some window tables, which I enjoyed sitting at. The service was fine, we visited during lunch, there was minimal interaction w/our server compared to tables around us. The food was definitely 5 stars, two of us split a clam dish, pizza & side of spinach. Excellent!
google avatar

Jerry M.

Yelp
We had a delicious and delightful lunch at Antico Forno. We enjoyed the Gnocchi and also some linguine with calamari. Both wonderfully saucy and flavorful. Our server Dona was friendly and made excellent menu suggestions. We lived sitting in the open window too. Highly recommend..
google avatar

Yelp
We came with a group tonight with a bunch of kids. Our waiter was Jules. He was amazing. Best waiter we have had- amazing food too. We will be back

Judy H.

Yelp
Friendly service and delicious cuisine. Family friendly. It was packed with happy people. Locals and tourists!
google avatar

Elizabeth K.

Yelp
Love the sourdough bread served as a pre-dining food. It had the right amount of sour taste with the crispy texture of the outer layer with soft bread inside. Pistachio pizza had the great hint of pistachio that kicked in when having a bite of the cheese and dough. The dough was soft with cheese very tasty. Love the pistachio pesto with the meat on top. Sauté broccoli: would've been great if this had more savory garlicky taste. But I still enjoyed it because it was right amount of portion as a side, and went well with the pizza
google avatar

Alex L.

Yelp
came here for a birthday dinner and was a great spot for it. The service was nice and the whole place had a homey feel. Apps were on the pricier side so we got a whole margarita pizza to share for the same price (pretty good pizza), and I tried the linguini vongole (I really liked it) and the lobster ravioli (it was pretty good but not the most fresh tasting). Overall was a fun dinner though!
google avatar

Yelp
I'm Italian, and this place was spot on! Right in the North End of the city in what I call the "Italian Distict", this restaurant was the perfect stop to take a break from exploring. We had a late lunch, around 2:30, and we walked right in. The restaurant was covered but open.. there were sections of the front wall that were open, so you felt like you were eating outside when you weren't. This was perfect because we arrived right when it started raining, but the restaurant wasn't too hot when it was raining... it was just perfect. The whole old Italian vibe definitely filled this place. Very rustic. Service was ok, kinda slow, but there was a big food tour next to us and we couldn't decide what we wanted on the menu, so we weren't bothered by this. Each table get served bread, which was delicious, I had to ask for more. Because there were so many yummy options, it was very hard to decide haha. But, I ended up deciding on the Fussilli Al tegamino with no ricotta. It was delicious and very hot. Filled me up perfectly without leaving me a stomach ache. Tasted like fresh pasta with red sauce and vegetables. Couldn't have asked for a better lunch.
google avatar

Yelp
I literally ordered the most simple thing (spaghetti with tomato sauce) and fell in love. Despite being a Boston local my whole life, I never indulged in a North End Italian dinner before I came to Antico Forno, and I'm so happy that I had my first experience here. The pasta was cooked perfectly and the sauce was extremely flavorful. Portions were perfect and the parm garnish was excellent. Everything was also reasonably priced, and the $4 Shirley temple was a must to go with the meal. I will definitely be back!
google avatar

Srinithi R.

Yelp
The atmosphere was warm and cozy which was great for a rlly cold day. Espresso martini was a 9/10 and the lobster ravioli with awas a 10/10. Great portions and the service was fast.
google avatar

Ross W.

Yelp
Really good, simple food. Incredibly busy and bubbling on Easter Sunday. They accommodated my son in his wheelchair with minimal fuss. It's pretty close quarters in there- not a lot of room to move, but nobody minds. I had the veal. No picture because I devoured it!
google avatar

Barbara R.

Yelp
This is the restaurant we go to for celebration birthdays ,guest visit and just happy family time.. The staff is amazing helpful great smiles on their faces. We once met the owner she very nice and proud of her restaurant. If I could give this place more stars I would!!
google avatar

Yelp
Came in here hungry and sat at the bar. Enjoyed a tasty Stella on tap while waiting for my pizza. The arancini appetizer was amazing and I would definitely recommend! So delicious! The tradizionale pizza was cooked perfectly and was so satisfying. Bartender was friendly along with the reat of the service there. Fun little spot to enjoy some delicious Italian food.

Mel A.

Yelp
Best pizza I have had for a loooong time. Our waiter Jules was superb! Ravioli was great too. Vibes are amazing. Such a diverse audience too.
google avatar

Tiffany J.

Yelp
Delicious food! We got a variety of dishes and everything was good! It gets pretty packed in the restaurant but still had a nice ambiance.
google avatar

Andrea C.

Yelp
Great spot for a vegan eater in the North End! There are always tasty side dishes and next time I'll try the pizza with the vegan cheese. The sister restaurant down the street, Terramia, is a smaller spot, but they seem to have more vegan options. Service can be iffy at times when they are really busy.
google avatar

Jay M.

Yelp
I stopped in for lunch to try pizza. Sat at bar area and ordered a traditional pizza with onions, pepperoni, sausage . I ordered a tap beer of Stella Artois . Beer was flat and tasted skunked or bad. Very slow service as if bar tender was annoyed? Only 2 other people at bar? Pizza was good but crust soggy in middle and slice didn't hold up to eat without slice limping and needed a fork? . Ingredients all good. I was at Regina couple night prior and I prefer Regina pizza. We were intending to try Umberto Galleria for a slice test but closed for New Year's Day . Ernesto's we visited 5.75 or more for a slice... and no seating? No thanks. Regina wins in my book and where we will go again for a pizza. Other food dishes looked good ... I have other spots I go for veal and others for pasta fettuccine, steak subs, Italian sandwiches etc.. pizza I have separate spots .
google avatar

Kayla P.

Yelp
Horrible service. Hated the waiter. Make sure to book reservations in advance or you will waiting for an hour. However, the food was delicious. I enjoyed my pizza options and the Sheryl temple was top notch. The ricotta cheese 9/10, the margarita 7/10 and other 7/10.
google avatar

Hannah G.

Yelp
Of course I had to stop in and try Yelp's 2024 Top 100 Pizza spots! While we could only get a reservation for an early dinner, it was worth it. The restaurant looked family owned and operated and the food was delicious. We were very close to the other tables but it added to the family atmosphere! Definitely recommend trying it out but make sure to make a rez!

Brittany A.

Yelp
The food is FANTASTIC. I went once last summer and made it a point to come back a few days ago. I'm gluten free and got their gluten free pasta and it's some of the best GF pasta I've ever had - done right! The pasta I had was vegetarian and had a pink sauce . The restaurant is beautiful & the ambiance is great. One of my favorite spots in Boston.

Peter S.

Yelp
Excellent, authentic Italian food in the North End! Everything was well worth it and everything was good.
google avatar

Yelp
Great service and excellent reasonable food. The hostess was exceptionally helpful!! The atmosphere was crowded and noisy but not too loud.

Yelp
Great food and attentive service. Some of the best pasta in the North End. And, they take reservations!!!!!!!

Yelp
Been here previously and both then and now there was a warm environment, familial service and great, authentic food. Not to mention our group shared a delicious pitcher of white sangria.
