The Best Pupusas In Miami

"This is the only Guatemalan restaurant in Miami we’re aware of. And if you’re coming to Antigua Guatemala strictly for pupusas, then please get their pupusa de loroco y queso. The loroco here is the best we’ve had in Miami. It’s potent, delicious, and really shines through their pillow-like pupusas. The revuelta is also an excellent choice. And they assemble their cabbage with salsa roja and queso seco plopped on top, which gives you the same rush of endorphins you get after completing a half-marathon (or so we’ve heard). Antigua Guatemala Restaurant Review - Little Havana - Miami - The Infatuation

"This could be the only Guatemalan restaurant in Miami (excluding the fried chicken chain with that delusionally peppy logo of a cartoon chicken). And they make it abundantly clear with the name they chose for this place. A weekday during lunch here is full of folks enjoying sopa de res completely unphased by the 90-degree weather. It’s clear this place is loved by its community and we understand why. The staff is incredibly kind and will tell you exactly what to get if it’s your first time here. The tostadas, chuchitos, tamales, and pupusas are great choices that’ll leave you full and cheerfully puzzled at how inexpensive it all is. And if you’re curious about what a Guatemalan hot dog tastes like, then you have to get their mixta, which confirms tortillas are superior to hotdog buns (yes, even for hotdogs). After two Gallos (Guatemalan beer) you can work up the courage to play some Marimba Chapinlandia from their electric jukebox. photo credit: Tasty Planet photo credit: Tasty Planet photo credit: Tasty Planet photo credit: Tasty Planet photo credit: Tasty Planet" - Mariana Trabanino

The Best Latin American Restaurants in the Seattle Area | Eater Seattle

"Wilfredo and Elvi Reyes opened the Seattle area’s only full-service Guatemalan restaurant in a Kent strip mall in 2019, which they decorated with bright photos of symbols of their home country: a yellow clocktower on an arch in the country’s old capital, the volcanic lake Atitlán, and the turquoise-colored national bird (the resplendent quetzal). Since then, diners have flocked to the restaurant to eat comforting pre-colonial dishes like banana-leaf tamales made with loroco and chipilín (both indigenous Central American plants) while upbeat salsa music plays. The Spanish-influenced, slow-grilled churrasco chapin strip steak, marinated with tomato and garlic, is one of the best steaks in Seattle, and the tostada topped with chow mein (a popular Guatemalan street food) provides a satisfying contrast of crispy tostada and soft noodle. The restaurant also serves Guatemalan breakfast foods, a comforting atol de elote, and fried plantains stuffed with a sweet bean mixture." - Elizabeth Delgado

Food is great! Portion sizes are awesome. Definitely a must try if your in the area! Gratuity is included (16% for a party of 2 and parties 4 or more 18%) The restaurant is a bit pricey but I had no complaints. The chicken garnachas we're also good.

Google
The food here is amazing. The steak is so flavorful and plentiful per order. The service is friendly and attentive. The only downside is that this restaurant is very popular and relatively small so seating is tight and there is often a wait. However it is worth the wait.

Google
Let me start by saying that when I review a restaurant my main focus is the food, then the service and last the building/location. With that said , the food did not meet my expectations. I was looking for authentic Guatemalan food, but was quite disappointed. There was only one dish we try that was to par and that was Carne Adobada(Marinated meat) with freshly made tortillas. Another item that was good was the Horchata. It was refreshing and had a good size. We came hungry and since we live far away, we took advantage of the moment and try several dishes, we even order some to take home because we wouldn’t had time to eat it all at the restaurant. We ordered so many things that it would take me a while to describe what I didn’t like about the remaining of the dishes. Instead I would like to mention the one item in the menu that is a staple in Guatemala and that is the Tamal. A corn dough which has in the center either pork or chicken topped with a delicious sauce. Well the sauce and the traditional flavor was missing in the one dish I came to the restaurant for. I was so disappointed, and sadly was my main entree so needless to say I left the restaurant hungry. As you can already guess, the food I took home wasn’t any better and was discarded. What was a lot better was the service. The lady who took care of us was super nice and was the one who suggested almost all the dishes I took home. However the place was almost closing and she would take time away from our table to finish with the other tables. This cause us to request the assistance of another server to help us obtain the check and the food we had ordered to take home. Thus the reason for a 3 stars for the service. Now to the last part of my review, which is the location/building. The restaurant is located right on the main street so must be careful with traffic when entering the parking. The inside of the restaurant was clean and had plenty of tables to serve large parties, but didn’t like the atmosphere. Therefore base on my experience I will not be returning and would definitely not recommend.

Google
The service was amazing—our server was pleasant and attentive. The food was delicious and despite the restaurant being full, there was very little wait time. Authentic Guatemalan food for sure!

Google
Absolutely gorgeous!!! We were amazed by the quality of the meats. Ordered "Churrasco" and "Arrachera" both very juice 👌 and grilled to perfection. Two sides came with the entrée, beans, queso fresco, guacamole, and a jalapeño with bacon and cheese. All delicious! We also ordered Agua de Avena con leche (oat with milk beverage), which is really good. 💯 % recommended! Come to this restaurant to try this and other dishes. We ordered some pork 🫔 tamales and they are huge! A lot of meat on them. I love the smiling faces of the waitress and manager. And let me give a kudos to the size of the restaurant. Accommodate people with plenty of room. We will be back for sure!! Note: This is a pricey restaurant but worth every dollar. 💕😍💕😍🥳🥳

For 25 years have been returning to La Antigua Guatemala Restaurant located on Flagler Street in Miami. Their beef stew is INCREDIBLE. Savory broth, plentiful beef rib, squash, carrot, yuca, corn cob and a mix of married flavors that won’t disappoint. Their carne asada comes with delicious black bean, cream, farm fresh soft cheese and warm hand made tortillas. The chicken, fish and variety of home cooked dishes will take you to real home made experience. Authentic, fresh and generous portions!!!!

Google
This is a true authentic Guatemalan Restaurant. My wife is from Guatemala and she's been trying to find a good one for a few years now. Wonderful clean restaurant and the food was spot on. We drove 2 hours to pick up a new puppy and had to stop and try. We'll be back. Nice people and great service

Yelp
I recently stumbled upon La Antigua Guatemala in Miami, and I'm still raving about it! This unassuming spot serves up an authentic taste of Guatemala that's both delicious and incredibly affordable. The pupusa de chicharrón is an absolute must-try. The crispy, savory pork filling is perfectly balanced by the soft, handmade corn tortilla. It's a flavor explosion in every bite! To wash it all down, I highly recommend their horchata. Creamy, sweet, and refreshing, it's the perfect complement to the hearty pupusa. What truly sets La Antigua Guatemala apart is its incredible value. You can enjoy a satisfying meal without breaking the bank. It's a rare find in today's dining scene. If you're looking for a genuine Guatemalan experience with big flavors and small prices, look no further than La Antigua Guatemala. Trust me, your taste buds will thank you!

Yelp
This place is disgusting. Food is low quality, rice portion horrible I'm disgusted by the quality. Extremely dissatisfied I'll never eat here again.

Ossa B.

Yelp
It's always consistent great food that's why I've been going for years. I love their lemonade, their tortillas and portions aside from the tamale de elote

Yelp
The food was okay, I was expecting more. If you need your ceviche fix this restaurant can do. Location feels like the restaurant has been here for many many years. The service was okay although the waitress forgot to give us Napkins.

Yelp
The food is good. There is a store attached to the restaurant so if you want to buy this from Guatemala, then you came to the right place.

Yelp
Great service and excellent authentic food from Guatemala... we ordered chuchito, tamales, pupusas y rellenitos, my first time here and I will definitely come back!!

Yelp
So after seeing a post about them on the Yelp Miami weekly newsletter, the pictures of the Rellenitos caught my eye & taste buds. I mean, I love black beans and sweet plantains so together they must be perfect right? Well, after some "field research" I can confirm that they are! Even though my initial impression of them as a dessert was technically incorrect (they're actually an appetizer) I would say they can be eaten for either course. I mean, how else would you enjoy a "pastry" of the aforementioned sweet plantains and savory black beans? As far as the rest of my meal, I enjoyed another side of their black bean soup, more than a couple very large and perfectly crispy tostones (fried green plantains) and a large juicy slab of carne asada. It had a nice smokey flavor, though it was a little thicker than Argentinian churrasco. Of course, I had flan. (I wanted to try their pio quinto dessert, but they had run out. My waitress was really attentive and accurately recommended the flan as a tasty alternate.) With its hints of baked in sugar, it brought happiness to my taste buds. Of course I washed it down with a nicely potent cortadito...two, in fact! Located on Flagler Street, they have a private parking lot and both inside and outside dining. As mentioned with my flan, their staff was pleasant and very knowledgeable.

Yelp
I can't believe after living in Miami nearly my entire life, I have never had Guatemalan food. Shame on me! Recently I was working on a project highlighting unknown latin foods. I popped in because I heard rellenitos were a delicious food I should try and my friend who told me was not wrong. Rellenitos are a delicious fried food - a "dough" made of fried sweet mashed plantains filled with mashed black beans. Yes, it sounds weird but it was SO GOOD! But who would stop at one item? Surely not me. I ordered a chicken a la plancha with rice and red beans. Make sure that you also ask for picante sauce. When they asked if I wanted it, of course I said yes. It kind of reminded me of the picante that comes with fritanga which is one of my favorite. This restaurant may look unassuming from Flagler street, but the service was friendly, food was super affordable and also very tasty. Next time I try I will be getting some pupusas as these reviews say that they're very tasty here.

Yelp
My favorite place ever! Granted I'm Guatemalan but I just absolutely love this place. The food is always incredible and made with love! No complaints ever!

Yelp
The best sangria on EARTHHHHHHH-whew chile. I would come here everyday if I stayed in the area. Sit at the bar and literally consume sangria my fav is the cheese papusa, churrasco, pinto gallo, and sweet plantains and EXTRAAAAA PICANTE. They have been consistent since I've been coming here. Give it a try, you'll love it!!
google avatar

Yelp
Simple, delicious! The pupusas are so good. The ambiance has an authentic feel and the restaurant is usually busy, but doesn't have a wait.

Yelp
I attended the birthday celebration of my Guatemalan friend at this restaurant. I never have Guatemalan food before and it was all so good. I wish I remember the dishes names though. Sorry! It was served family style. I did tried everything from appetizers, entrees, side dishes and desserts and all we're good. A must try if you are looking for a good and reasonably priced Guatemalan food.

Yelp
Can I just say how pleasantly surprised I am??I've been coming here since 2004 & about a 7 months ago we came back & the service was really below mediocre & unfortunately the server was very dismissive & rude.We gave it a go last night and EVERYTHING was AMAZING,the service, the food & I also see they've been remodeling the place which is great..My bf and i got the pupusa revuelta,a pan con bistek to start. Then he got the large churraso plate & I had El especial de la casa.15% service charge is already included & i obviously gave her extra tip to make up over 20%for her service.EVERYTHING WAS DELICIOUS!!

Osni O.

Yelp
Food is amazing here. A GREATT way to start off your day! Make sure to order a bunch of meat as well since it's to die for!!! Really juicy!! The horchata is amazing as well recommend it! Meat is a little raw tho.

Yelp
Tasty and authentic home cooking! The portions are good and the service is fair. Antojitos Chapines

Yelp
They food is good, but authentic Guatemalan food. The service was average. It was Sunday so I understand they were busy. But we were celebrating a birthday and it wasn't recognized by waitress.

Yelp
I love eating at this restaurant. Pupusa de chicharron, so yummy. I also recommend ordering carne asada, Gallo pinto, and queso frito.

Yelp
While I have relatives in Guatemala, I will honestly say that I do not know much about Guatemalan food at all. However, I am always up for exploring, so when a friend's girlfriend says she has cravings for this place here we went. The set up of the restaurant is a little weird, you walk in and there is a long counter set up very close to the door. The dining room is on the right side. We first ordered some tostones to munch on. They are freshly made and piping hot, light and crunchy and excellent with a dash of salt. From what my friends told me, they do have a lot of generic S American food that are not necessarily Guatemalan. I decide to order from the menu section "Traditional Dishes". I got the Costillas de Puerco Adobados, pickled pork ribs. The meat doesn't taste "pickled", it probably is marinated for a bit, so the flavor is good, but not very tender. My friends ordered grilled beef steak which they seem to enjoy. The pork chop though, is super tough. I later learned from my Guatemalan cousin that this is how they are made, back home. Tough like a flip flop. Because they need to kill any worms or parasites in the pork. So, take my advice, don't order this.
google avatar

Ricardo S.

Yelp
The mamey drink was very refreshing, I think I might've even ordered two because the weather forced me to.

Yelp
The food is delicious I recommend it here the service was great very nice waiters ambience is great

Yelp
Coworker liked the skirt steak on his first visit but I opted for the house special which consists of carne asada, eggs, tortilla and cream but I got gallo pinto instead, order of sweet plantains and fried cheese, all fritanga style even though it's a Guatemalan joint. My issue was the carne asada was undercooked when I asked for medium well and they had to take it back twice, that liked it for me. The rest was ok not the worst not the best and it ended up being a $30 lunch with a soda plus the tip and I wasn't completely happy. The service is actually good which is why I'm giving it 4 stars but I know a handful of joints like this one where they cook better, the food is cheaper and the service is just as good or better. I guess perhaps I should stick to pupusas or a more traditional Guatemalan dish but this is what I wanted at the time.

Yelp
THIS IS MY SPOT I have been coming here since I was 21 when I would have to travel to Miami for work and came across this gem. Now I'm 45 and this is still my Jam Churrasco de Rez and a papus ... is my go to ... But everything they cook is Delish food quality is great and has never changed And all the workers are wonderful Will not disappoint

Yelp
We always see a line out the door so we decided to give it a try. At first glance the place looks a bit run down but the foods makes up for it, everything we tried was really good and the staff was friendly but they mainly speak Spanish. The Portions are huge and very reasonable prices. If you go with your family be prepared to wait about 30 min for your food and parking is available in the back but gets full quickly.

David C.

Yelp
Not bad, not great. I think people come here for value rather than quality, which is OK for a lot of people. I found the meat ratio is enormous...I'm not sure how the owners make money. I ordered the pork tenderloin...a quality piece of meat, but it was way over done...made it almost like shoe leather. The other thing is...it's a whole tenderloin! I made 3 meals with it. I would urge the owners to perhaps scale the meat quantity down by half and ease off on the cook time...perhaps even cook the pork as medallions. I think those two fixes ups the quality and gives the owner some profit. I see far too many good restaurants fail because they either don't charge enough or make the portion sizes too big. The service was good...no complaints! The place is always busy!
google avatar

David T.

Yelp
Over priced and the service was atrocious.. the food taste ok at best. Be prepared to be charged a mandatory service charge for a party of 4 adults and 4 toddlers that didn't eat. I was charged 20% gratuity!!! For 4 adults that ate? Not even water was provided to the kiddos,, RUN better off spending your money at a FRITANGA near by CAÑA BRAVA
google avatar

Yelp
I'm from Miami but live in Texas. Every time I go back to Miami I have to go to this spot. The best Carne Asada. So flavorful and portions are perfect. Just love this place. Have been going there for over 15 years even though I don't live there every time I travel back one of the only spot I make sure I go eat. Staff is AMAZING always!!

Yelp
A lot of food. A lot. Very tasteful so if you are allergic make sure you drink a Perrier.

Yelp
If you're looking for the typical plates of Central America then this is a good spot. Food are of big portions. The service is not the greatest.
google avatar

Yelp
Amazing food & service. Very Clean, and all the wait staff helps each other. Hands down one of my favorite places. Also very affordable.
google avatar

Jonathan V.

Yelp
Alright, if your looking for great Guatemalan food, this is the place to be. There Pupusas (I know, there're not Guatemalan) are awesome. For those of you who do not know, a Pupusa is like a thick Central-American style tortilla that is stuffed with all types of goodies. I come here for the one that only has cheese and it's amazing. They have tons of other different items to order from and some of the ones that we normally get are: Churrasco - Good Steak Sandwich (Add Ham and Cheese) - Great Appetizer Sampler - Amazing and Huge The reason why I don't give more stars is because most of the people that work here are not the friendliest and the place could use a bit more maintenance. Plain and simple, I come here cuz of the food. Nothing else.

Efrain G.

Yelp

Yelp
Been coming here for years it just happens to be the one time I decide to write a review they decide to disappoint me. I ordered takeout and they told me it would be ready within 20 minutes how ever I waited a total of 50+ minutes for my order. With that said, I won't let one bad experience hinder the entirety of my review. The food is really good. I recommend the churrasco de red which a steak entre with tortillas, beans, cheese, and creama. A meal cannot get more be more authentically Central American than that and probably any more delicious. It comes in two sizes, I recommend getting the small as it's more than enough food and I tend to eat large portions. The steak is delicious, cooked to perfection and a substantial amount considering most restaurants are light with their portions when serving meats. If you're not a steak fan I also recommend the carne de cerdo which is a pork dish.
google avatar

Yesenia M.

Yelp
My go to every time we don't feel like cooking. Carne asada with white rice or with tortilla and refríes beans. Pupusas de queso with the cole slaw. Chicken soft tacos. Generous portions. Perfect flavors.

Yelp
We have been eating here for years and this weekend was the last time we will ever go. The service was horrible and the food quality has declined. We ordered a whole fried fish and when it came out it had a long black hair across the plate. When we told the waiter, his reply was "what do you want me to do, take out the hair or replace the food?" When he saw the look on our face he said "fine, we'll replace". It turns out they "refried" the already fried fish and brought it back out. Then a woman came to ask how the service was and said any critique is good for them. We told her about the hair on the fish issue, she shrugged her shoulders and walked away. No apology, no discount, nothing. Then why come ask if you're just going to ignore the customer? It's sad because this place always had great service and food but apparently with the new so called owners, it's just not worth it anymore. One star is still too high a rating.

Yelp
Food is close to home... Guatemalan food "Antojitos Chapines" a plate with a good variety. I received a good paper Menu with food and drinks offered . Natural juices . We ate lunch in restaurant-and- also bought tamales to take home... "yum" . Tables were spaced out, alcohol at hand when entering. Service was good. But, the atmosphere is not so good because - there is NO music - I asked the waitress and then I spoke with the lady manager about it. They said, no music while we eat ... "put some money in the music jukebox". To the owners: pongan Marimba (put marimba music from Guatemala )... give us some ambiance ... that's why people go out to eat.
google avatar

Karen E.

Yelp
I love this place so much. If you are looking for good food this is the place. You need to try their sweet corn tamales. AMAZING!!!!! I like their tortilla then most Central American places. Really good. The food over all is great and service is good. Try a little of everything. Definitely worth it.
google avatar

Alekk R.

Yelp
Real authentic Central American food Looking for good fast service and delicious food The price and portions more than fair very generous Give it try you won't regret

Yelp
Only place in Miami where you can get authentic Guatemalan food. I come here to get Guatemalan enchiladas, one of my favorites. They make them a superbly! Muy rico!
google avatar

Lorena S.

Yelp
I love this place. My favorites are the Tortilla with Carne and the Tamal de Elote. I have been going for over 20 years. You will not regret it.

Yelp
Food is moderate, but PRICE is too high. Plus they charge 8%, it supposed to be 7%. I try to talk to owner/manager, but no one seems to know the owner or manager. Why you people charge 8% tax? it supposed to be 7%

Yudit M.

Yelp
Hace muchos años q voy a este restaurante y siempre salgo satisfecha , mi familia y yo lo recomiendo muchísimo y la carne asada , la mejor
google avatar

Gina A.

Yelp
I ordered food from here and ended up with a long piece of red hair in my mouth after taking 1 bite. I complained to the manager, Raquel, after we were still charged for the food that we didnt eat and she continued to argue with me. The waitress gave us a stuffed pepper in place of the food with the hair but still charged us for it. I dont know about you but I dont like to eat people's hair. That's unsanitary and the manager should have done everything to satisfy the customer.

Yelp
Awful place, waited over 15 minutes to order our drinks and over 45 minutes for our food. We ended up leaving without eating. The staff is incredibly rude, they had waiters just sitting down and then had the audacity to say they were understaffed. The AC wasn't working so they offered outside sitting, they had only one fan and there were flies everywhere. The makeshift floor in what is essentially parking spaces turn into the "patio eating area" was extremely dirty with hair balls stuck on it.

Lll L.

Yelp
I ordered the breaded chicken breast, after few bites I noticed a piece of metal wired in the rice, I spent $20 in a lunch meal, I didn't enjoy it, the waitress didn't apologize, she told it's just the a piece of metal from the scrub the kitchen use to wash dishes, I never will eat in this place again, so disgusting
google avatar

Lee J.

Yelp
Been there couple of time before. Then just got back again. It never disappointed. Food there is delicious. And not that expensive. Meat is good. That cheese hmmm. Wish gave me big piece with it. Both two big meals like 40 something ain't bad. Plus friendly and homely there. I like that not too bright inside. Just right. Yes do have parking it on back and side. If it get crowded. Know foods must be that good.
google avatar

Marjorie S.

Yelp
All I have to say is that this place is I wish I lived closer because I would definitely visit much more often.. I was introduced to this spot by my brother's Guatemalan gf and it did not disappoint. Only downside is that parking sucks. Yes, they have complimentary valet but the spaces are so tight that it still stresses me out lol Other than that this place is a must try!

Yelp
Having been born into a Guatemalan family, I am familiar with nearly all the main dishes that Antigua creates, and from the handful I have had, I always leave content and happy. My favorite part is that I can dine-in at the counter when I'm looking for a quick bite, or I can have a sit-down meal when I need to introduce my friends to the deliciousness that is Central American cuisine. I say Central American because while Antigua does focus on Guatemalan dishes, they also have other favorites such as pupusas (which are Salvadorian). While I like all the dishes, my absolute favorite is the enchilada. Different from Mexican enchiladas, these are a flat toasted tortilla chip with shredded beef, topped with pickled cabbage and beets, an onion, Parmesan, and a slice of a hard boiled egg. Trust me, it's worth the mess it makes :)

TESLY S.

Yelp
The service was beyond terrible. The waitress was super rude and to top it off, she overcharged me. I asked her to correct the bill and she said it was too late! Once the bill was paid, our waitress acted like we were invisible so I asked another waitress for a box to go, and she ignored us as well.
