"Culinary couple Alam Méndez and Elisa Reyna brought their famous tortillas engineered with native Mexican corn to La Cosecha this summer. The flavorful tortillas and Reyna’s pastry skills first brought them acclaim at D.C.’s Maiz 64; now there are rotating conchas and plenty of different tacos celebrating their strengths. The crispy, cheese-filled Gringa taco, stuffed with al pastor and topped off with hunks of pineapple, should not be missed." - Emily Venezky

"Union Market is already overflowing with food choices, but Apapacho Taqueria needs to be at the top of your list. The owners are veterans of Maiz 64, one of our favorite Mexican spots in the city. But unlike Maiz 64, Apapacho is more of a fast-casual, grab-and-go kind of place that’s great for a quick lunch or casual weeknight dinner. Get the tacos de suadero—slow-cooked beef simply topped with onions and cilantro—and the Baja shrimp tacos, which come with a zesty salsa mayo that brings the heat. The vegetarian options, like a cheese and potato quesadilla, also hold their own." - omnia saed

"I learned that Apapacho, opened by culinary couple Alam Méndez and Elisa Reyna at Union Market inside La Cosecha’s former space, is driven by a masa-grinding master from Oaxaca and highlights tacos of slow-cooked meats such as al pastor, carne asada, and barbacoa as well as a vegetarian oyster mushroom option; the setup includes a 30-seat interior and room for 20 on the patio, with drinks ranging from frozen margaritas and mezcal cocktails to Méndez’s favorite, micheladas." - Emily Venezky
