The 13 Best Barbecue Restaurants In LA - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"Adam Perry Lang’s roving barbecue operation has a passionate following on par with The Grateful Dead, with lines to match. Lang previously cooked at Jimmy Kimmel’s backlot and ran a now-closed Hollywood steakhouse, but these days can be found serving theatrically prepared $250 wagyu tomahawks and $75 pecan-smoked beef short ribs, most recently at Gin Rummy. Yes, APL’s barbecue is some of the most expensive in LA (and generally lighter on smoke flavor), but meat quality is top-notch and most orders include sides." - brant cox, sylvio martins

We went to this BBQ pop-up on 7/26/2025 and here’s what we found. 1. Wait Time & Line Flow The restaurant opens at 12:30 PM. We arrived at the entrance at 10:30 AM and were the first in line. From our observation, arriving between 11:30–11:45 AM should still allow you to be part of the first group to enter. (Based on our experience this time.) Around 12:30 PM, entry begins through a side iron gate. 2. Parking The only real advantage of arriving early is being able to park for free right in front of Gin Rummy (about 5–6 spots), so you don’t have to look for street parking nearby. 3. Pricing & Portion Sizes Here’s the current price list for this time of year for your reference: • Colorado Whole Rack of Lamb – $160 (approx. 8–10 ribs) • BBQ Oxtail – $100 • Aged Wagyu F1 48oz Tomahawk – $300 • Colossal Beef Short Rib – $86 (approx. 1–2 large ribs) • 36oz Beeler’s Farm Pork Chop – $85 • Sweet & Sticky Pork Ribs – $60 (approx. 8–10 ribs) • Pulled Pork Shoulder – $50 • Oak Wood Smoked Prime Rib (English Cut) – $95 • Honey Butter Corn Bread – $9 (serves 1–2 people) • APL BBQ Sauce – $10 4. Recommendation Regardless of the price, this is hands-down the best American BBQ I’ve had so far👍

Amazing food, service, and location. Oxtails were heaven on earth. Pork ribs were smoky and tender. Chocolate chip cookie melted in my mouth. 10/10!

Had the beef ribs. Definitely the biggest best beef ribs I ever had and the food here is worth the wait. I probably waited 20 minutes in line but I could have waited an hour and wouldn't have been mad. Possibly the best barbecue in the United States, but this is definitely hands down the best I've ever had in La. This is a must try so tender the food really does melt in your mouth. You almost don't even have chew LOL

Super large portions of some great BBQ! Pulled pork & pickles & jalapeños & corn bread were all stellar. Would recommend coming early as the line does start to form down the block before they start taking orders. Gin Rummy starts selling drinks at noon and they will bring it to you in line. I’d happily come back!

We discovered APL via Instagram and traveled from New Orleans to savor it for ourselves. I could have walked here and still felt the trek was worth it. The barbecue is elite and I confidently say that as a self-proclaimed barbecue aficionado. We had the oxtails as well as the ribs and, five hours later, I still can’t take my mind off of either of them. With so much food served, we have more than enough remaining from our earlier to eat for dinner later. So tender, so perfectly flavored, so scrumptious. Even better, we met Adam Perry Lang himself and he could not have been a more gracious host. Chatted with my wife and I as well as took a photo of us, suggesting we take it in front of his smokers. Great guy that is serving great food. I look forward to his steady success.

Better BBQ than the best of Texas! Adam Perry Lang is a legend. One thing is clear: Adam for President! 🇺🇸

Came here to try the Hickory Smoked Pulled Pork sandwich $10.00 and it was fantastic! It was filled with lots of meat and they offer complimentary Iced Sweet Mint Tea. They only accept card payments on the kiosks inside. Free parking in lot.

Yelp
Surprised there isnt more reviews. Its jam packed every weekend. Showed up @ 1pm. Waited 90 mins in line to order, then 30 to get food. Not many options; pork shoulder is $45, beef ribs are $86, oxtail $130. Big portions. Meant for large groups. Overall an exhausting experience that will test your patience and blow a hole through your wallet. But the BBQ is pretty dang good. Juicy, tender, moist, flavorful.

Yelp
My SO wanted to try this place out so we lined up at 11:30am. They open at 12:30 pm and the line started to move. We were able to order at 1:15pm. We got the beef rib, pork rib, tomahawk, corn bread and pulled pork. The tomahawk was easily the best, then beef rib, pulled pork and pork rib. The corn bread was delicious. The tomahawk and beef rib were easily the best ! Pulled pork is flavorful and pork rib was allright. This place is easily the best bbq in california I have ever had.

Yelp
I have been wanting to try this bbq by APL for a while now. Finally earlier today I went to have lunch with my family and my brother's family. We got there at 12:15 and there was already a long line. After one and half hours it was our turn to order. While you are waiting in line you could order drinks from Gin Rummy and they will serve it to you in line. Delicious drinks by the way.... Right before opening Adam walked through the line and thanked everyone for showing up and gave high fives. Once we got to the kiosk it was pretty easy to place an order. You just choose the items you want, then pay and step aside while they pack your food. We got ribs, lamb chops, pulled pork and corn bread. We all loved the pulled pork shoulder and the lamb chops. The ribs were a bit dry and hard to bite (I like it when the meat falls off the bones) .... The cornbread was absolutely delicious and I ordered two more to go. There was lots of seating outdoors, the ambiance was great. Friendly and attentive customer service. Overall we enjoyed our food and time here.

Yelp
What can I say about this place. I'll start from the beginning. Instagram made this place look delicious. I drove there, where at the time he was working out of the back of a Thai food restaurant. Traffic was absurd. Line was insane. None of that mattered. I was super excited to try it. Waited in line for an hour. Still no complaints. I knew what I was getting myself into. Got the giant beef ribs, lamb chops, and I think it was trip tip or brisket. It's been awhile but I can't remember. The place didn't have any real sitting area, but so what. I wasn't there for the ambiance. Overall the food was good, but not great and soooooooo expensive. You're better off going to Moo's Craft Bbq. It's better, cheaper and it's a lovely restaurant with plenty of seating indoor and outdoor.

Yelp
Where to start. We visited his pop up in Venice on May 11th. Firstly, his barbecue is extremely mid, especially given all the hype on IG. My friends were super excited and we waited over an hour in line just to be completely unimpressed. Overly sweet and not anything special. Then comes his business ethics side. After we ordered from a kiosk, we waited another 30 mins for our name to be called, only to be told that 1/3 of our order (the chicken) ran out. The lady told us to just write our name and phone number down and they would refund us. After a week, my friend received no refund. Then he began to follow up with them on Instagram (only way to contact them). All 4 messages showed as read, but no response! This was over the course of a couple of months - absolutely mind blowing. Not only was the food not good, but they are crooks. My friend disputed the charge with Chase and they sided with the customer (no surprise here). I decided to make a comment on his IG to warn people, but his team quickly blocked me. Hence, why I created this Yelp page for hi. So he can be held accountable. So much hype around this place. Just shows how IG can really morph reality. Just don't go.

Yelp
Late post ‍. Best BBQ I've had in 2024! Laid back vibe that we love! (Dec 2024) We got there between 11:30-noon and we were able to order about 1:10. We got our food about 1:30 pm. What I thought was awesome was Adam came out to greet and thanked customers for coming out. Very genuine, hard working and polite! Big portions so bring friends to share or bring home leftovers!!! Parking is tight so you can park in the public parking (scan the QR code to pay). Enjoy because this is a great place to try awesome BBQ! Check him out instagram to see what his daily menu is.

Yelp
Stole my money!! We were really excited to try Adam's barbecue given all the great social media content so we ordered one of each thing on the menu at his pop up in Venice (ribs, chicken, pork). They unfortunately ran out of two of the items before they could make our order so we only got to try the ribs. The woman at counter took down my info and said they would refund me for the food they ran out of and didn't provide. Fast forward many weeks later and messages to them trying to get my refund, and no response! Totally just ignored me and made me pay for food I never got. Also, the ribs (the one item we did get) were so tough and chewy. Pretty much the opposite of "fall off the bone"

Yelp
This place is so mid everything was dry and under seasoned. I wouldn't be surprised if the people who adore this spot have never tried real Texas style BBQ. Better off going to Baby Blues or even SLAB although they fell off.
