The Best Ramen Restaurants in Seattle | Eater Seattle

"Founded in Tukwila and expanded to Ballard, Arashi focuses on the tonkotsu-style ramen associated with the island of Kyushu in southern Japan. The porky broth is available in shio (salt), shoyu (soy sauce), miso, and spicy miso varieties, and black garlic is a good twist to the tonkotsu miso option. It doesn’t say on the menu, but you can (and should) customize your noodles’ firmness. Ask for firm (katamen) or extra firm (barikata) to avoid the default overcooking to slightly soft." - Jay Friedman

Not too busy on a Sunday night, they have very limited seating, half of which is at a bar. The chicken karaage was good but it doesn’t come with sauce and the pieces were quite small. I really liked the spicy miso tonkotsu ramen! I got a level 2 and it was sufficiently spicy :) food came out pretty fast as well.

Google
Tried the Spicy Tantanmen Ramen and Honey garlic karaage. Both items were delicious. If you are a fan of creamy ramen, get this one else go for the spicy miso ramen, that's great as well.

Google
Gotta take my word for it, da bomb.com! Very casual atmosphere, delicious food. We ordered the honey garlic karaage bowl, arashi ramen, & gyoza and all exceeded my expectations. I wish I took a photo before we started eating but we did take an after. (:

Google
We came in for a late lunch on a weekend and found the place only half full, which was a relief because their seating is quite limited. Between the two of us we ordered the honey garlic karaage and the vegetarian ramen with a seasoned egg and chili sauce (the latter two are extras). Overall, the food was really quite delicious. The karaage is especially really well done and flavorful. The veg ramen was nice too, however I wasn’t a fan of the seasoned egg or the tofu. The broth is quite creamy and the additional chili sauce adds a nice flavor too - I would recommend ordering in to be premixed into the broth because it’s quite awkward to mix if you order it on the side. Service is warm and pretty quick too!

Google
Best ramen around! Fast and easy. Cozy little spot tucked away in Ballard. Yummmm. So tasty. Hearty Ramen with great flavor and good portions. Parking isn’t too bad and there’s a few streets to leave your car on behind the restaurant.

Google
Best ramen in the area that we’ve found. Anytime we’re within a reasonable distance of here, we work it into our itinerary for the day. I get the Arashi named, and my husband gets the black garlic. SO yummy!

Google
Not a ton of indoor seating. But people move quickly and eat their ramen fast Hard to get a group table. It’s easier if you’re a party of 2 or solo like I was Nice flavor options 🍜🍜🍜🍜

Google
We got the miso tonkotsu ramen, spicy miso tonkotsu and karaage. They were all very good! I liked the regular miso better than the spicy one.

Yelp
I have to go again their ramen is to die for and is an excellent comfort food especially in the winter times here in seattle!
google avatar

Yelp
It is very expensive for the amount of food you would get here. Adding extra noodles for $5 sounds ridiculous. Gyozas are great here. It is too tight inside but people think it feels like they are in Tokyo. This is a spot I can visit once a year and that would be it. Seattle food scene is terrible because of the prices of such places where you're still hungry after you are done eating.

Yelp
Seattle has so many ramen options it's hard to go wrong but I'd heard good things about this place so I made a trip to Ballard to check it out. There was a little wait but we were seated without having to wait too long. The place isn't that big and it has just humble basic seating. They have so many different options of ramen that can please anyone's palate including veggie and cold option (but really why would you get a cold ramen?!?!) I love my spice so I went with the spicy miso. It hit the spot for these cold weather days we've been having and and I'm not a fan of corn (unless on the cob) so I had that removed. I always recommend getting takoyaki any place that has it and they do! Great chunks of octopus and heavy on the bonito flakes. Their menu has other non ramen options too if one desires.
google avatar

Laura G.

Yelp
Takoyaki: The takoyaki was nicely crispy on the outside and creamy on the inside. There was an average amount of octopus inside each takoyaki. The outside was a bit burnt, though. Miso Ramen: The miso tonkatsu broth was very rich and flavorful. The noodles had a nice, chewy texture. The pork belly was very tender. The interior is quite small, but seats were readily available when we stopped by on a Saturday afternoon. We really enjoyed the counter seating by their window. The seats were quite close together, so I can imagine it feeling more crowded if there were people sitting near us.

Yelp
A super small ramen place in Ballard. Service is very friendly and attentive. Food is not bad! I ordered the shio tonkotsu ramen which just comes with one slice of chashu, half a ramen egg, bean sprouts, pickled ginger, and green onions. The broth was nice and flavorful, the chashu was extremely tender, fell apart as soon as I tried to pick it up lol. The ginger added a nice zing to the whole dish. The food came out pretty quickly as well which was good. Prices are okay too. All in all, a solid place for a simple bowl of ramen. Though coming at a slightly busier time will turn you away or have to wait.
google avatar

Yelp
I got the veggie ramen and my fiance got the black garlic ramen. We enjoyed our meal and also enjoyed the atmosphere!

Yelp
Hands down my favorite ramen place in Seattle. Affordable prices, amazing flavor, and fast service. You seriously can't go wrong with anything on the menu. The appetizers are great (we love the karage, gyoza, and the takoyaki) and the ramen bowls are fantastic. The restaurant itself is small but cozy and has an intimate, casual setting! We've been coming back for months because we love this place so much:)
google avatar

Yelp
Absolutely amazing ramen. I just wish they were more flexible with their ingredients. I wish places let customers know when they only serve pork at a choice of meat. So many ramen spots offer alternative meat options such as chicken or beef. Long story short, my food was amazing, but my stomach often disagrees with pork and this day was not an exception. The inside is small, not uncommon for a ramen bar. I enjoyed the simple and traditional decor. As with many ramen spots in the area, it's Iioe they make sure they make it unique. Even though many of the ingredients are the same, every place and dish and flavor has been unique. I cant remember the flavor I had last time, but it was rich enough to save the second half for later. I the all the noodles and used the remaining broth for a left over surprise. It worked out amazing. lol. Full of flavor and unique. Probably a lot of egg. I don't know if I'll be back due to only having pork options. Not their fault. Doesn't make their food any less. I will however recommend this location to everyone else that can eat pork just fine. I wasn't exactly too thrilled with my service either, but it's on par with the average noodle bar.

Yelp
Arashi is one of the best ramen places in Seattle. I went here for the first time last weekend, and everything was delicious. We got Gyozas, Honey Garlic Karaage, Black Garlic Ramen, and Spicy TanTan Ramen. The gyozas were the best I have had; they were perfect and crispy. The honey garlic karaage was a little fatty, but they were good, and I would order again. The ramen was the best part of the meal, as there was so much flavor. The service was not excellent, but it was good, and they served us fast and were always helping us out. The ambiance is a small restaurant with the table close. It's very similar to other ramen places.

Madhvi G.

Yelp
We ordered veggies ramen with extra hot sauce. It comes with a thin noodles. Ramen was good. They have different sauce to maintain the spice level.

Yelp
Food 8.5/10: Arashi Ramen in Seattle is an absolute treasure for ramen lovers seeking an authentic and unforgettable culinary experience. From the moment you step inside, you are transported to a cozy haven of enticing aromas and warm hospitality. Their broth is the heart and soul of their ramen, it is rich, aromatic, and truly satisfying. Service 9/10: The staff is really friendly, attentive, and eager to guide you through their menu offerings! The prices are reasonable, considering the quality and authenticity of the ramen they serve. Ambiance 8/10: In Ballard so it's kinda not safe, but it's near salt and straw and think about ice cream after ramen, doesn't that sound like heaven?
google avatar

Lani G.

Yelp
if you love ramen then you should check this spot out in ballard. our go-to orders are the spicy tantan men and the black garlic ramen. their shop is small and cozy and prices were very reasonable for quality and portion size. the staff is always super friendly, definitely recommend checking them out!

Yelp
Great ramen place! I came here with a friend and service was fast and there was lots of seating on a Thursday evening. I got their Arashi ramen which I'd give a 4/5, but my friends spicy miso to katsu ramen was delicious and full of flavor. I'd definitely order that one next time! Also got the takoyaki which was crispy and filled with bonito flakes. I'd give this place a 4.5/5!
google avatar

Salma A.

Yelp
I recently tried the vegan ramen at Arashi Ramen, and it was really good! The broth was creamy and satisfying, with a nice depth of flavor. The service and ambiance are great at both the Ballard and Tukwila locations, making for a pleasant experience overall. That said, I feel like the Ballard location has a slight edge--something about the flavors and vibe just seems to hit differently there. Still, it's a solid choice for ramen, especially if you're in the area and craving a comforting bowl!
google avatar

Yelp
Food - they have a good menu of options and my partner got the black garlic ramen and I had the creamy veggie ramen. Usually veggie ramen is a bit hit or miss but this is probably my second favorite veggie ramen in the city and favorite creamy broth veggie ramen. It did not disappoint for this vegetarian who has been burned before. The veggie karaage was also delicious. There are also options for vegans too! Service - very speedy and kind! They were able to answer questions and give recommendations that made sense for how hungry we were and our dietary restrictions. Ambiance - small and just off a Main Street down a smaller side one, this place reminded me of some of the ramen places under the train station or tucked away in an alley in Japan. It's cozy and well-done. TLDR: great options for both veggies and meat eaters and we will be back!
google avatar

Morgan T.

Yelp
Very small but amazing ramen! If you go on a weekend evening you could expect to wait as there's only about 15-20 seats in the restaurant but it's worth it
google avatar

Christine B.

Yelp
It is ramen season! We came by after walking past a couple nights ago. It's a small, intimate space with bar seating and a handful of tables. I wouldn't recommend more than 2 people per party unless you're willing to wait for some tables to open up for more seating. They said it was a 45 min wait, but for a party of 2 but it was closer to 20/30 min. This was a Friday night around 6:30pm. They had a couple vegetarian options for ramen. I chose the creamy one with thin noodles. It was exactly what I was hoping for and very tasty. Staff were attentive and friendly. It's pretty busy and they seem to have a lot of take out business as I saw people streaming in the entire time picking up take out bags.
google avatar

Billie L.

Yelp
I always get the same thing: Shio Tonkotsu ramen with no egg. It always comes out delicious AND very quick! I really enjoy arashi ramen and it has become my regular spot for the past couple of months. The servers are always kind and very fast. I love the size of the restaurant too. It's very cozy and I love hearing the chatter of all the people enjoying their food. I usually dine alone here and it's incredibly easy getting sat if you're eating for one as well.
google avatar

Heather J.

Yelp
This is my favorite ramen place. Our love affair started at the Edmonds location, but when that closed we decided we were more than willing to stop off here frequently while in Ballard. Of course this location has no parking and seems quite cramped inside, but we never seem to wait too long and service is always fast. We're fine with sitting at the bar window seats to enjoy the people watching while dining. Sometimes we even make it to the southcenter one. My partner loves it so much he often goes to eat here without me and is scared to tell me about it because he knows I'll be annoyed he didn't wait for me. I always get the creamy veggie ramen, too many other ramens have ingredients in them I don't enjoy like seaweed, eggs, mushrooms, but this one has all my favs. I love the red ginger, garlic oil and bamboo shoots. I dream of adding additional toppings, or extra of the things I love. I usually get the house salad as well. On my most restaurant visit I learned they have a new plant based chicken option for garlic karaage, but I have yet to try it. I don't recall what my partner gets, but we both always finish all our food.
google avatar

Lauren K.

Yelp
Arashi Ramen was fantastic! We came on a Wednesday night around 7 and didn't have to wait long for a table. The restaurant itself is a little small so you might have to wait if it's busy. We were greeted with very friendly and QUICK service. The atmosphere felt fun and authentic. We got 2 appetizers and 2 ramen dishes and all of it was delicious. Note if you get the spicy ramen it is very spicy (but tasty)! We will definitely be coming back.
google avatar

Maddie L.

Yelp
We came here for a late lunch on Saturday since we were in the area and it was our first time here. Arashi's is definitely my new favorite ramen spot in Washington! For appetizers, we ordered the honey garlic karaage and the gyoza. The karaage was okay to me, I only took a bite because it was too fatty for my liking but my boyfriend enjoyed it. I loved the gyoza - it was delicious and I would order this again. For ramen, we ordered the spicy tantan men and black garlic ramen. My black garlic ramen was incredible - the broth was so rich and flavorful. Highly recommend trying this out, I'm already looking forward to getting it again the next time I'm here! The service was good. There were only two people working - one server and one busser/food runner and they were both nice. Our food came out very quickly which is always a plus. The ambiance is casual and cozy. The seating is very limited with only a few tables and then a small section of bar seating.
google avatar

Mary G.

Yelp
First time trying This place and it was so good! The staff were friendly and made us feel welcomed. The food was so good, it's way better the ramen place where I live. When I visit Seattle again, I'm definitely going back!
google avatar

Jeff W.

Yelp
Best ramen in Seattle, there I said it. Broth is savory and I love that eggs come with most of the ramens. The chasu is moist and just right chewy. The extra spicy is very hot (and I eat v spicy food), and a cold Asahi cools you down. Tight seating but hey get to know your neighbors and enjoy this amazing spot right here in Ballard.

vishak s.

Yelp
My mom and wife had ramen here for dinner (takeout) yesterday, and unfortunately, it didn't end well. Both ended up getting sick with vomiting and diarrhea. Thankfully, I ate elsewhere. Definitely wouldn't recommend based on our experience.
google avatar

Nikita S.

Yelp
Ambience - Small and minimalist place. Loved the broth spoon, it was just perfect size to enjoy broth and noodles at the same time. We ordered Miso Spicy Ramen. Loved the pork, it was perfectly marinated and was bite size. The broth was thick and flavorful. However, personally for me the noodles were undercooked a bit. Overall, good experience with decent and fair price. Will definitely go in again
google avatar

Greg C.

Yelp
Fabulous service and very good ramen. It looks like a little hole in the wall but it was busy which tells me the food is excellent. I wasn't wrong.
google avatar

Cyndi C.

Yelp
My Ballard friends clued us in on this tasty small ramen shop, I'm glad they did! The seating is a bit cozy here but food is served quickly by kind staff and tables move pretty quickly. Our party tried the miso tonkotsu, soy tonkotsu and tantan men. Each ramen bowl came out hot with the fixings and egg. I really enjoyed the miso based ramen I ordered but my friend let me try her tan tan (which is a sesame paste based soup) that was so creamy and addictive, I think the next time I go back it will be for the Tan Tan Men, served with ground pork rather than the pork belly mine had, but it still won me over. The gyoza is ok but you can just come in and focus on one of the ramen bowls and be plenty full. Tis the soup season, so enjoy!

Jamie K.

Yelp
Great customer service. Seafood ramen had a flavorful broth. The chicken broth was sort of bland to me.

Yelp
On my quest to try all ramen places in Seattle, and Arashi Ramen popped up as a solidly rated place to go check out based on what community mentioned - so I decided to check another ramen restaurant off the list! We went on a Friday around 9pm and were seated promptly. The interior of the restaurant is small and the seating arrangement is cozy and close in space to other diners - Most seats were either in the ramen bar area or in a two (and sometimes four) seating arrangement. Service is relatively fast as after ordering our ramens, we received them in about 10ish minutes - I haven't tried Arashi at a busier time, so I'll update sometime in a future review. There were a bunch of interesting ramen places to try on the menu, and the one that popped out the most to me was the Arashi Ramen with the generous sounding amount of pork belly given. The broth of this ramen was more light than I expected, but it had a nice slightly salty but decent pork flavor. The charshu was really thinly sliced, like almost paper thin - I know this will be down to personal preference, but I'm a fan a slightly thicker cut charshu with more volume. But besides the thickness, I would say the charshu did have a no chew melt in your mouth quality that was enjoyable to eat. The ajitama egg had a nice marinade flavor, but I would have loved the whole egg rather than half. The noodles were chewy, and since they were thin noodles, they did catch the flavor of the broth better. Overall, I spent about $19 for this bowl for this bowl of ramen - which is slightly on the steeper side in my opinion, as you can almost get an entire ramen combo (appetizer + ramen) at other establishments. A decent bowl of noodles if you are in the area and in the mood for some ramen.

Louisa H.

Yelp
Came on a Tuesday night and it was quite busy! Even so, we were seated promptly. Pretty small store. We ordered the chicken karage to share, and I ordered a tonkatsu ramen. The food came out fairly fast as well. The chicken karage was delicious but was a pretty small portion size. My ramen was okay... I didn't think the broth was extra flavorful or rich. I'd come back if I really wanted a quick ramen fix
google avatar

Skye P.

Yelp
Authentic hole in the wall vibe. Have gone alone and with small groups and it has been great every time! Somewhat pricey, but all the ingredients are homemade and so dang good. My partner is a vegetarian and there is only 1 veggie broth, but it's creamy and umami deliciousness. Would recommend adding a marinated egg!!
google avatar

Jennifer H.

Yelp
This place happens to be nearby and we were in the mood for ramen on a cold and rainy evening. This place definitely hit the spot! We did have to wait for about 20 minutes before being seated as it was a busy weekend night and the place is relatively small. We went for a walk and then came back and sat down right away at the counter space. The staff are very busy and I think they probably get a lot of takeout orders in addition to serving customers inside as well. The menu has everything you want from a ramen restaurant, with some special and various flavored ramens as well as appetizers. We decided to get our favorites: potstickers. These did not disappoint. They were very crispy and well flavored! For my ramen I had the spicy miso ramen with extra seaweed. It was very tasty and spicy as the name suggests. I highly recommend it. You can also get other add-ons for additional cost such as noodles or seaweed. Can't wait to come back here again!

Yelp
I think I've found it. My first favorite, 5-star restaurant in Seattle. Best Ramen I've had. There isn't a whole wealth of ramen places in the area. Plenty of pho noodle spots, Thai noodle spots with a few Italian noodle spots but no good ol' Japanese ramen spots. The ones there are really get your appetite going and Arashi delivered. After walking around for about a 20-minute seating wait, sat at the counter and started with some gyoza. Excellent. Fried, but not too crispy. nice balance in the gyoza sauce too. Sweet and savory. For the bowl I got the Spicy Tantan men ramen. It was terrific. full on flavor and spice from the chili oil, spiced sesame and red pepper. Green onions for a nice subtle crunch and delicious ground pork without being overdone. The broth almost had a creaminess to it as it just warmed my body and soul. It was great both in taste, spice level, temperature and presentation. Along with the meal a bottle of hot sake was shared. Also, very good to sip on alongside appetizers. I can't wait to come here, and any chilly day will give me that excuse.
google avatar

Brianna S.

Yelp
We were seated quickly. Once you order your food it's out within five minutes. Everything was so delicious. First place I've seen have Takoyaki.

Kate L.

Yelp
Wonderful meal! Delicious ramen and the owner's son entertained us with his karate moves. :)
google avatar

Ally S.

Yelp
Solid ramen spot. Flavorful broth, good service, and a couple of fully veggie options. Was a bit of the hole in the wall. Would go to again, but is likely not my #1 ramen place in seattle.
google avatar

ChriStina H.

Yelp
Flavorful and delicious veggie ramen. Fast service! Small restaurant space so better for solo or pairs
google avatar

Yelp
Ramen is always a good choice in cold weather - happened to be in the Ballard area and saw this place a few times. I started with the honey garlic karaage appetizer which is alright. It is a bit on the saltier side and while juicy, a little bit dry in texture. Given this is something different compared to regular karaage at most places, it was a bit underwhelming. I then tried the black garlic ramen, which is served with thin noodles. Flavor is quite apparent but not overwhelming, and the chashu has the right amount of meat to fat ratio. Although the pork was not torched or anything special, it still held great flavor admits all the ingredients in the ramen. Overall, the ramen itself is solid, but I was a bit disappointed with the karaage. Take into consideration that, like other reviews, portions here are on the smaller side; hence, I got the appetizer that I normally don't get in a meal.

Yelp
DUDE, YES TO THIS RAMEN SHOP My ate Maricor C. and I were having a Japanese-themed day and decided to check for ramen shops for dinner. Her friend had been raving about the charsiu from Arashi for a while, so she recommended dining in their Ballard location. Parking was small kine hard, but we decided to park in the Swedish Medical Center garage and walk over (shhhhh it's our little secret hehe). We were seated promptly and my eyes immediately landed on the creamy veggie ramen ($13.75), which was exactly that- amazingly savory and CREAMY. I took a sip of Ate Mari's black garlic ramen ($14.50), and the broth had a bold garlic flavor. The charsiu in that ramen was so, so, so juicy and tender; nothing short of amazing. We also ordered hot green tea ($2.50), which to our surprise, was actually genmaicha (roasted green tea), my FAVORITE. I'm so looking forward to my next visit already. ありがとうございました Arashi ramen!

Briegh R.

Yelp
I'd say theirs 3 different ramen places I truly enjoy in Washington, this is 1 of the three. Broth is really good and rich, I'm always seated within 5 minutes of walking in. Never had a complaint. And no I'm not paid to comment this, Tukwila location is probably the best one
google avatar

Sophia Y.

Yelp
Proof that not all Arashi locations are created equal! I have previously been to the Edmonds location that I wasn't impressed with and it seems like that location has closed since. Back to the Ballard spot! Came here on a chilly Seattle fall evening and I was definitely not disappointed and left with a very full and happy belly. Ordered takoyaki (not as an add on option to ramen; got the full order), spicy miso tonkotsu, spicy tantan, and hot sake. Takoyaki had the perfectly amount of bonito flakes and while it wasn't all that filled with tako, it hit the spot. What I was super impressed with was the ramen. Noods cooked perfectly with a chew - and a deep broth to appreciate the time it took to develop the flavors. Yum. All paired with a hot bottle of sake was a perfect dinner. I'll have to make this place part of my regular rotation, I can't believe my previous experience at the Edmonds location prevent me from giving this place a try for so long. Would love to try the karaage next time instead of Takoyaki to see how the apps/side dish stacks up!

Yelp
Had lunch here in a chilly Sunday afternoon. Thankfully there wasn't a wait and we got a cozy 2 seater in the back. The vibes were happy, friendly, and warm. We ordered a spicy tan tan ramen and miso tonkatsu ramen. The spicy tan tan was really prettt and delicious. The brown bits of pork were savory w a touch a sweetness. And the broth was nice and creamy. The miso tonkatsu was nice but tan tan was better. The broth seemed lighter and a tad salty for me. The char siu was fall apart tender but had this.. porky taste that's not my fav. Overall I'd come back if I'm in the area or after a day at the farmers market and maybe try a different item.

Yelp
First meal after arriving at Seattle, totally set the bar for the whole visit! We got there around lunch time, the place had quite a few people but luckily not full yet. I ordered the spicy miso tonkotsu ramen, and requested thin noodles and mild spiciness. The bowl of deliciousness came quickly and it was gooood! The broth was rich and flavorful, noodles and soft-boiled egg were cooked to perfection. I was a little surprised by the meat, which was chopped and kind of melted into the broth. My friend ordered miso tonkotsu ramen and her meat was in larger slices. Both were good though! If I visit Seattle again this will be on my list for sure!

Yelp
What a great little spot for excellent Raman. The service was prompt and friendly and our evening was perfect

Yelp
Came on a cold rainy afternoon and it was exactly what we wanted. Tasty flavorful broth, delicious noodles, the fried chicken appetizer was a treat. Cooked perfectly

Taylor M.

Yelp
Good service. Amazing food. I have been twice with my boyfriend and we ordered Ramen both times. Neither of us have tried the bowls. The first time we went, we had the vegan chicken, which was absolutely amazing. He got the regular chicken as well, which he said was tastier. Medium volume inside the restaurant.
google avatar

Yelp
Amazing spicy miso ramen and black garlic ramen. Definitely my first choice for ramen in Seattle amongst the 15 other places available within a 15 min drive! Arashi, you have my taste buds, my stomach, and my wallet. Honestly could use a bit of air con or fans and less shaky chairs. Don't expect a super talkative staff but they are very attentive!
google avatar

Tazeen L.

Yelp
It's officially soup season so I'm making my way through my ramen list. First up was Arashi - a small ramen spot in Ballard with good service. Started with the honey garlic karaage which had a nice balance of sweet and savory but wasn't very crispy. I opted for the vegetarian ramen that had was rich but not too heavy broth and nice chew to the noodles. The space is small and the 2 tops have backless stools so definitely a spot to slurp and go. While I wouldn't drive out of my way, would be happy to drop by for a quick bite if in the neighborhood.

Yelp
Arashi Ramen was the perfect, cozy lunch spot on an overcast Seattle day. We might have timed it well, but there was no wait and our food came out so quickly. It was very flavorful and tasty. Definitely recommend if you want to see what the hype is about!
