3 Best Day Trips From Vancouver | Condé Nast Traveler

"Yes, Araxi Restaurant & Oyster Bar is hard to get into, the tables are too close together, and the service can be hit-or-miss. But this long-time farm-to-table favorite (with a brand-new executive chef, Quang Dang, since October 2017) sources ingredients from local farmers, fisheries, and ranchers—including, naturally, a wonderful selection of West Coast oysters—and features one of the best wine selections in British Columbia. Come for splurge-worthy seafood and drinks in a lively locale." - Liz Humphreys

We ate at a number of nice places while in Whistler, and this was a good meal. I will say that the corn soup first course was pretty disappointing, because it had zero salt. However, the cocktail, bread and subsequent courses made up for it. The herb crust on the halibut was interesting - I didn't love the texture, but the flavor was great. I've always felt like sitting at the bar at a nice restaurant gets you the best service, and this was no exception. Putting this below the fold in the review, because it should not steer anyone away from eating here, you should eat here. The line cook who served the soup - taste your food. It's the first impression and sets the tone for the meal. Soup is so easy to taste and season in a batch to perfection so there really isn't a good excuse. The cook and seasoning on the fish was spot on, but I was a little confused about the tasty but soft layer of herb on top. The menu description said crust which primed me for something with a little texture.

Google
This place is good; a solid 3.5/5 stars. Service and atmosphere are great. The seafood tower was 4/5, but all of our entrees were mid (chicken, steak, and a roll). Not bad, but not worthy of 5 stars. This place has really high reviews on the travel apps, but there are better places to eat in Whistler. I’d go back if someone in my group wanted to go, because again the food isn’t terrible, but it’s nothing special. Get the seafood tower if you go.

Google
Araxi Restaurant & Oyster Bar First time in Whistler. Never know what to expect, however we did experience fine dining at its best. The 4 course fixed price, 4 wine pairing, x2 (fixed price) was just excellent. The staff were excellent, meaning all staff we encountered were well groomed (trained) and talented. Even the young person shadowing was superb. At Araxi, great window table, no reservation, comfortable surroundings, no rush experience, and would definitely return. I said this experience reminds me of a meal in a restaurant (Mandarin Oriental), a few years ago.

Google
It was really great experienced dine-in night. Most popular restaurant has prix Fixe (4 course meals) here, Whistler. It seems like very common ! This Araxi is very busy and crowdy, so loud, but great dishes and service ! Especially Miso Marinated Sablefish was unbelivably delicioua and 5 star dish you must try out it ! It haa so mich savory flavor and perfect marinated miso taste ! I wont forget about it. Furthermore Server Andy was amazing, kind ! Thanks for our anniversary night !

Google
Had a fantastic experience last night at Araxi! Sat on the patio with our dog, and went for the $44 4 course fixed menu. Paris, our sever, took such great care of us! She was very knowledgeable, classy, and friendly. Food and wine were fantastic (we did the wine pairing). We look forward to coming back! Thanks Paris and Araxi!

Google
We did their wine pairing. It was a fun experience. The food was good. The atmosphere wasn't too loud. The service was great! He was attentive. It was an enjoyable experience.

Google
Araxi was on my bucket list for awhile since I heard about it on Hell’s Kitchen pre Olympics and it did not disappoint We managed to try out their Prix Fixe menu for Whistler’s 44 year anniversary The soup was super flavorful, the tuna tataki & tuna sashimi just melted in your mouth The angus beef perfectly cooked, and damn that duck breast!! One of the best I’ve had with the skin perfectly crispy mixing well with the meat itself. Desserts *chefs kiss* Wonderful experience, and definitely need to visit again next time I’m in Whistler

Google
I mean...what can I say? What a feast! We got the winter tasting menu and it was fantastic. The service was attentive and friendly, and the food came out swiftly and each tasted delicious. It was a wonderfully planned menu and I can definitely see why the restaurant has a reputation.

Yelp
(Ryan Reynolds voiceover) The vibe is THE destination for fine dining in Whistler! Francesca warmly greeted us! She recommended the Beef Cheeks. Michael (Mi'kahl) showed us to our table and went out of his way to take our order. He agreed Maryann. Fresh baked Sesame & Rosemary bread! Amazing! Beef Cheeks! Exquisite! RICH! Tender! Every morsel an absolute delight! (Francesca was right!) Beet Salad. So good! So healthy! Octopus. Perfect cooked! The bed of beans and the gorgeous presentation were top notch! 14 Oz Steak. Perfectly medium rare! Brocollini! But the sauce! The sauce was scrumptuous! And the red wine Michael recommended paired perfectly with the steak! Doughnuts w/ Coffee Ice Cream and Fresh Caramel! Maryann was correct! Superb! The food was spectacular! The service exceptional and warm! The ambiance was fabulous! For an epic meal at Whisler, hit Araxi! Thanks Michael, Maryann, and Francesca! Will be back! Woohoo!

Yelp
We tried all 5 varieties of oysters from the Canadian continent at the Araxi restaurent tonight, our favorites are the SunSeeker and the Beach Comber, both are big and juicy. The beef cheeks were amazing, slow cooked to such tenderness, it just melts. The pumpkin soup was tasty and smooth. The foie gras is a mousse, goes well with brioche The dish we didn't like as much is the risotto: no cheese inside, raw carrots, and too much shrimp. The service was pleasant but the gap between each meal was too long at times. Our server, Ben P. was acceptable. He served us with an air of arrogance, for example, he "threw down" the dessert menu on our table, turn around and left without saying a word, as if we are obligated to order. I would try to avoid him if possible. There are many other nicer servers in this restaurent. Overall, it was a good dinner and we will be back for more fresh local oysters.

Yelp
4.5 stars Came for their prix fixe menu; food was good but not spectacular. The butternut squash soup may have been my favorite course - soup was nice and rich and the spoonful of oats and creme fraiche was an interactive component that really added a unique texture and combination of flavors. I was disappointed by the duck main - the different components on the dish (fennel, sharp brandied cherries, pecans) just did not work well together and felt more like a collection of disparate flavors rather than a cohesive dish. I was also puzzled by the croquette - I found the texture unpleasant and could not finish it. The space is nice, popular, quite centrally located in the village. Service was adequate.

Yelp
So nice to start off with complimentary coat check. Classy vibes all over! The bread was so warm and my server switched out the butter for olive oil and balsamic vinegar. I love that he remembered I had mentioned no dairy. I ordered the duck and it was cooked to perfection.

Yelp
Dined here last night and it was a fabulous meal. We started with some oysters, and the trio appetizer tower. The tower consisted of beef tartare, scallop crudo, & tuna sashimi. Delicious! For the main entrees I had the miso marinated sable fish & the husband had the venison. Some of the best dishes we've had in a while! Definitely try & make a reservation.

Yelp
One of the hottest restaurants in the village. It's hard to get a reservation so definitely recommend to make advance reservation. We had a late reservation (9pm) on a Friday night and the place was still busy. We ordered off their pre-fix menu. They didn't give you any other option, other than the soup of the day as the first course. Their menu changes and we had the opportunity to taste the corn soup which was amazing. I had the beef tartare as 2nd course and it was really flavorful. My girlfriends had the pate and shrimp cocktail, both were also good. As for our main courses, we tried their: Mushroom Risotto- absolutely flavorful Halibut - cooked perfectly with light sauce Duck - also cooked and seasoned perfectly I really enjoyed the dark chocolate tart and yuzu dessert. Not a fan of the petit four but my girlfriend certainly enjoyed it. Highly recommend this place if you are in the area.

Yelp
Lived up the hype! We had the prix fixe menu and was great, highly recommend. The lamb and sticky toffee dessert was perfect. Great service as well Wish they advertised there was a kids menu on the website, it's about $20 for a kids meal and they offered coloring paper/crayons too.

Yelp
Lovely all round experience, nice for a couples dinner. We happened to be there for their fall special tasting menu which was delicious and such an incredible value. We were seated in a little alcove/library which was perfect for us, quaint and comfortable. The service was not as refined as I expected in comparison to their other locations, but it was still good. We will be back again.
google avatar

Yelp
One of the best dinners I've had lately. Duck Breast, Beef Tartare were my favorites. Highly recommend to visitors

Yelp
Champagne or Prosecco alongside oyster and fondue apres ski- yes that will work Upscale vibe, but dress up or casual and you won't be turned out, it's a ski town after all. Dim lighting, but super kind staff. Nice wine selection Apres we had 6 oysters for $20 vs 1 oyster for 5$. Swiss cheese fondue- ok, but not worth 34$ pp with bread, gherkins, Pickles onions. Sablefish was out of this world yummy, light but rich flavorful broth, paired with a Pinot noir, perfect Molton chocolate cake -under a different name, but very good, paired with the suggested port. Salted caramel ice cream. Oh, don't forget to checkout the bathrooms - have to love non US toilets.

Yelp
Last year's prefix early winter menu was so good we came back to try it again in 2023. Service was very kind but this time the food still was good but just wasn't as impressive as the high bar of last year. For the prix fixe price though it was all still a steal and fun meal. What we got recently: The appetizers were the best: salmon sashimi appetizer was awesome and tuna tataki was also good. Mains: Lamb sirloin was good but undersalted - better than over salted though. Venison was not gamey and but it was almost too tender that the texture was a bit unfamiliar and flavor was a little underwhelming. Dessert: pear dessert was beautifully presented but flavors were just ok but the fav of the two was the chocolate cake. This was delicious!

Yelp
Very disappointing. I've been to Araxi over two dozen times and always loved it. This time I was really disappointed at the quality and taste of the food. The seafood platter didn't taste fresh and had a strong fishy taste. This is not the Araxi I knew and loved. On a positive note the bar staff was great and makes delicious drinks. Way better food in the village.

Yelp
Finishing our last night in Whistler and extremely glad we made reservations at Araxi. Our waitress was Taylor and she was super kind, friendly, and knowledgeable about the menu. She made sure our entire party was taken care of whether it was refilling waters, ensuring proper portions, and timing of the dishes to come out. Beet + okanagan Asian pear salad was refreshingly light and balanced out by the amazing goat cheese. The foie gras parfait was so light and fluffy and paired well with the chutney and port gel. It was our first time having bison tartare, and I enjoyed the texture and flavor. It had a bite but was not overpoweringly gamey. We had the wild scallop, ahi tuna, prawn chirashi which was very fresh and delicious. The seared wild scallop's sauce was amazing!! It was a lemon confit with a miso beurre blanc which if I could drink I would. We each got one of each oyster that they had in stock tonight: barkley peti, chefs creek, island tide, and paradise. The barkley peti was surprisingly meaty and had deep cups. Chef's creek had the best flavor with a slight briny finish that we enjoyed. Island tide was my favorite and overall best tasting and good size. Best oysters we had in Whistler so far but at the cost of about $5 per oyster. For our main dishes we miso marinated sable fish was incredibly tender and so flavorful. It literally melted in your mouth and had little bites of bokchoy, radish, shiitake mushrooms. Also, the broth was a light warm dashi broth that we requested a spoon to drink it! The house made bucatini pasta mentaiko was so rich and creamy. From the sauce to perfectly cooked and coated pasta, it was delightful all around. We also had the mushroom risotto topped with kfc maitake mushrooms. It was good but definitely was over shown by the other dishes.

Yelp
Came for Apres and as always great! Oysters and Truffle fries are the best! Drinks are always a favorite as well. We have come here for many years for Apres and dinner and never been disappointedo
google avatar

Melanie K.

Yelp
Food was disappointing. Expected more from such a well established restaurant. The oysters were not as fresh as we liked and the pita chips on the seafood tower did not make sense to me. We ordered a gluten free pasta and that was undercooked. Service was ok. Interior needs to be redone. I do not think i will be returning

Yelp
Very fancy restaurant I went to with some investors! Good: - The corn soup was amazing! It was also poured right in front of you so it was fresh - SUPER GOOD oyster tower! I loved how fresh the seafood was and it came with some sushi and some other great seafood appetizers like seaweed salad - The mushroom risotto was AMAZING and I loved the texture and the way it smelled too - Service was top tier here too! Nice champagne too. - Great ambiance - super nice private dining place Bad: - I'm sure it was hecka expensive so I'm just thankful that I didn't see the bill! - The dessert looked really pretty but I wasn't a fan of the flan Overall this was a great experience, and it was super tasty and felt very fancy

Yelp
In my five day say in the village I can say that Araxi was by far the best restaurant we ate at. They have an impeccable combination of delicious food, service, and amazing value. I visited twice for apres and both times the food was beautifully prepared and delicious. I highly recommend the tuna tataki as well as the house cocktails. The service was impeccable and very friendly. Araxi was a major highlight of my group's visit!
google avatar

Sam P.

Yelp
Always the absolute BEST restaurant in the village and stacks amongst the best anywhere! We visited twice while in Whistler and both times were exceptional. Amazing ambiance, lovely setting both inside and out; service is spectacular and the food is absolutely amazing! Tonight we began with cocktails which are by far the best in the Village - then for food started with oysters - amazing and perfectly shucked. From there we loaded the table with sushi, tuna Zuke, truffle fries, tuna tartare ( amazing ), octopus, and the 2 absolute standouts of the night - local beets with goats cheese and the best gnocchi of my life, it was light as a feather and the local peas just made the dish. We ended with macarons and a delicious vegan coconut dessert which was up there in my all time favorites. Cannot wait to return! This is truly one of the best restaurants on the planet!
google avatar

Yelp
A fabulous restaurant with delicious food. Upscale dining with a menu catered towards seafood. Our server was absolutely lovely and attentive the entire meal. I thoroughly enjoyed everything I ordered: from their sushi, to their fish, to their dessert. Highlight dish was definitely the miso marinated sablefish! So tender and delicious and beautifully plated. Yes this dining experience is expensive, however, I do think it's worth it for the quality and service. Would gladly go again.

Yelp
Five stars and nothing short of it. Araxi is on of the better restaurants in Whistler setting themselves apart by their white linen tablecloth, upscale service. Araxi is on the pricier side but every restaurant in Whistler is pricey. Reservations are highly recommended, especially during peak season. I went later in the season and didn't have much of a problem but I could only imagine during peak season. Dress is more 'business smart' but casual is acceptable. If you dress casual you won't be turned away but you may feel a little out of place. We started our meal with the shucked oysters ($5 each) however, the Apres Ski Fondue (3-5p) is more reasonably priced (six for $20). They are obviously pacific northwest oysters (some of the best). That paired with a Prosecco was a great start to the meal. The staff made the pairing recommendations and knew their stuff. I went with their recommendations through the entire meal was not very satisfied. For my main I went for the mountain trout ($47.50) and we added some side for the table. The mushrooms were my favorite and as with everything locally sourced. We also had the brussels which were a tad too sweet for my taste. Overall, this is definitely one of the better restaurants in the area and conveniently located if you are staying at the base of the mountain. We were within walking distance so the day on the slopes then a short walk to our room to dress up made it a nice evening.

Yelp
We celebrated our 15th wedding anniversary with a four course prix fixe menu for $42. Every dish was elegantly presented. The service made our night even more special. Overall best restaurant in Whistler. This was my second time dining here and will definitely return again.
google avatar

Yelp
Trying to fix menu before they take it away when ski season arrives. Staff are attentive and friendly. Ambiance is good. Restaurant semi busy and I choose to sit at bar area. No wait either way. Good is delicious and good value. I also did the wine pairing which is around same price as food. Under cad $100 including tax excluding tips.

Yelp
We've been several times before - once for dinner several years ago and twice now in the last few years for apres. Our most recent experience was unfortunately underwhelming between service and food. Oysters have always been excellent and fresh. The tuna tataki had good cuts of fish but the marination and flavor were underwhelming. Very disappointed by the beet, goat cheese, and Asian pear salad. In theory all ingredients we love, but a mishmash of proportions and deconstructed in a way that didn't help the flavors complement each other. Surprisingly just the one tiny sliver of Asian pear within the dish. Service was disappointing as well. Despite having four people milling about the host stand, it took longer than expected to be acknowledged. We asked for a table for two and were told there was only bar seating which we were completely fine with, but we were surprised when the next walk in group of two behind us was offered a table while we were still waiting to be seated.

Christian N.

Yelp
Service was a standout here. Our server took great care of us and the food was amazing. Scallops were a standout and the sides of Brussel sprouts and mushrooms were also just as tasty.
google avatar

Christine L.

Yelp
Obsessed!!!!! We got the 4 course meal and was very very pleased. Literally everything was delicious. Our server Katie was AMAZING especially with allergies and overall was just great. Would come back for sure!!!

bonita n.

Yelp
I was struck by how accommodating the restaurant was of special needs, like no onion or garlic for 1 member of our party and another member who's vegan. The bread, salmon with crispy skin, and the desserts were outstanding. The prix fixe menu is an excellent deal. Service was good. Fancy toilet in the ladies room.
google avatar

Romit C.

Yelp
Great place, food is excellent, tried the foie gras, duck Breast and salmon and everything was delicious. Can't recommend enough of the nonalcoholic drinks too. Tried the chocolate fondant for dessert and it was amazing. Our server was very good and the ambience was great too. Love this place.

Roxana M.

Yelp
Araxi is always tops for a fine-dining experience in Whistler. The food is phenomenal and the service is impeccable. We especially enjoy the prix-fixe menus available during the resort's shoulder season to sample interesting and new dishes.
google avatar

Yelp
Reso highly recommended for dining at this Whistler village must! Après is 3-5p daily and includes great deals on oysters, fondue, and some other small bites! My bf loves this place so it was a must on our recent visit though we slacked and forgot to make reservations... so we went around 3:30 and half an hour later we're seated at the bar! Made it in time for après AND dinner menu...W! Après we ordered 20 oysters and truffle fries. Dinner we ordered Octopus, Duck Breast and Bucatini "Mentaiko" Pasta. We started with some delicious hot cocktails and had an amazing bottle of wine from Okanagan. Everything was delicious but recommend the oysters and pasta! Excellent wine selection and a full bar. The complimentary bread and butter were delicious as well! Service was friendly and prompt (though we were right at the bar so service is usually excellent anywhere you dine at the counter). Ambiance is a more upscale casual... for a mountain town I'd say this is a nicer place to go. Simple decor, dark vibes, great presentation on food and cocktails.

Yelp
Rushed. Rushed. Rushed! The last two years I have made a reservation for 1 and dined. Each time I have felt forced into a less than 70 minute sitting (all courses). Seriously, even when asking for more time, the wait staff was back within a couple minutes asking for a choice. I am someone who normally eats quickly, and loves fast service, The food is very good. Cocktails are well above average. The best thing I've had here is the beet salad. Had the ling cod tonight, and the fish was cooked very well, slightly under seasoned but when combined with the other ingredients was almost just right (in terms of salt). Wait staff is very focused on and cognizant of food allergies. The ambiance is great.
google avatar

Yelp
Was PHENOMENAL!! My friend and I sat at the bar. The service was exquisite. Octopus was very yummy Our bartender was amazing too and gave us a sample of such a great red wine from Italy - I forget his name but he was awesome!

Yelp
It's hard to put into words just how good our dining experience was at Araxi. Our waiter, Nick, was as friendly, fun, and entertaining as he was professional. He was also informative and found the answers to all our ridiculous questions (Thanks Nick, now I know the defining characteristics and history of "carpaccio", lol). Nick made several recommendations. Some directly supported what I thought would be the best choice. Others were far from what I thought I would want. All were 10 out of 10 outstanding! In addition to the perfect food and incredible wait service, we had the pleasure of meeting Colin, the restaurant director. As if Nick's charm, friendliness, and attention to detail weren't enough, Colin made it feel as if though we were the guests of honor. It was like we were the only guests in the restaurant that mattered. Obviously, as the other reviews suggest, that is not the case and the staff at Araxi are simply exceptional at what they do. Nonetheless, we felt as though the restaurant had been waiting its entire existence for our arrival. After helping us choose a phenomenal bottle of wine, Colin noticed that we had ordered the duck pâté and took it upon himself to surprise us with a special wine sampling of the "noble rot". Don't let the moniker throw you, it was delicious and an exceptional pairing. As the night progressed, and we stayed longer and later than we had intended, Nick and Colin continued to entertain us with stories about Whistler and Araxi. They shared their vast knowledge about the food and wine. They helped us choose the best desserts. And in the end, we even received a visit from the "Mysterious McCleod? McCloud?" Aka Jeff, another Araxi team member that moonlights as a very capable magician. As if the evening wasn't magical enough, Jeff appeared, as if from thin air, with a deck of cards to give us an actual private table-side magic show! I'm not sure the experience will ever be topped. Thanks, Araxi, for a night that my wife and our friends will never forget. We will see you next time!

Yelp
In the heart of the village you will find this excellent fine dining experience. We started with fresh oysters that were outstanding. Andy, our wonderful waiter then recommended a seafood trio that was creative and a great starter. We then shared the Miso Sablefish, which was a wonderful seared white fish in a beautiful miso broth. Very unique and exceptional.

Ken R.

Yelp
Nice ambiance and great service. The food was top notch and the place definitely stands out.

Yelp
My wife and I came to Araxi to celebrate our anniversary and were delighted with our experience! The food was superb. I enjoyed the steak tartare followed by lamb sirloin with a delicious tagine sauce, paired with a wonderful Tempranillo from Spain. My wife was delighted with the tomato and peach salad followed by roast duck breast paired with an Okanogan Valley Pinot noir. Our superb meal was capped by a dessert of delicious Black Forest gateau and a mouth watering lemon tart. The service was absolutely first rate from start to finish. Of special note, our server, Stephanie, was wonderful! She was genuinely friendly and upbeat. She really knows the menu and gave excellent answers and recommendations. She also gave us some great recommendations for things to do in the Whistler area. Stephanie was the highlight of an overall fabulous dining experience. We very much look forward to returning to Araxi next time we visit Whistler. Thank you for helping make our anniversary a memorable and special celebration!

Yelp
Food selections were upscale but blandly executed. The added on black truffle (at $8 a gram) was flavorless. The truffle fries were more flavorful. When I mentioned it, the server said they'd let the chef know. Never heard back and was still charged for it. Service was slow and casual. Took us 3 hours, most of which was waiting between courses. At least the company was good. We were never offered a wine list, ended up just requesting a glass of whatever. Both times we asked to have the rest of our food boxed up, the server forgot . At least the bread was free.

Yelp
lovely prix fixe 4 course meal. great service. music volume was appropriate for conversation at the bar. i can't remember the playlist so it must not have been terrible.
google avatar

Rachel J.

Yelp
Wow! We ordered the west coast oyster selection. They were great! Only critique is they had a lot of shell chips in them (maybe a new shucker was working tonight?). They use real horseradish. The house bread was fantastic, yam bread was in season and super moist. The server happily brought oil and vinegar when we asked. I ordered a Lucy in the Sky gin drink- phenomenal and not overpowering on the lavender. My husband ordered a ginger old fashioned; it was perfect. The lamb is possibly the best lamb I've ever had. *Drool*
google avatar

Lisa P.

Yelp
The service, like their Blue Water sister restaurant, is outstanding! Everyone who works here is relaxed, funny, knowledgeable, attentive and good-natured. I would absolutely go to any of the restaurants related to Araxi and Blue Water Cafe for the service. The food, on the other hand, was not as impressive. While the array of oysters are a hit, the soup and some seafood appetizers could have been tastier. I feel like the octopus and squash soup missed the mark and one of the desserts was just okay. The venison and wine suggestions were wonderful! If we return, I'd be interested in trying the duck breast.

Yelp
The rating was good, the Whistler booklet described this place being extraordinary, so we came here for my friends birthday. We waiting for about 30mins before we got seated, but there were so many empty tables. Just a few of us, so we ordered the salmon, halibut, the steak, and an appetizer. Both the salmon and halibut were extremely salty! I can understand if one plate was salty, but both?! The server was nice, she provided the kids coloring set to my friend's kid, but she was not very attentive afterwards. The ambience was nice, the entire experience wasn't that pleasant. The price is also slightly above average amongst the fine dining. So will I come back? Probably not.

Yelp
Araxi is one of those restaurants that feels like you're treating yourself because everything is just so exquisite. As someone who's often just as happy eating at a hole-in-the-wall joint at a strip mall, sometimes these places are a bit of a turn-off. Not here. Most of the details blended in to make for a tremendously enjoyable evening ... and some of the details stood out as exceptional. I was impressed before even arriving that they asked for a picture so they could great me upon arrival. Didn't quite work -- there were six of us and I don't think they'd memorized everyone's faces (which is totally reasonable) but I thought the intent was pretty cool. Still, we were directed to our table immediately which was in a little pocket back-room of the restaurant with a few other tables. Really felt like we'd been escorted into a private dining room as a result. Our server(s) were attentive throughout the evening and we started with cocktails. I ordered the Coco Chanel which was served with what the table agreed was the best looking ice cube they'd ever seen. It was monstrous and had the word "araxi" engraved atop. It was also delicious. We seriously considered the seafood tower, but having enjoyed one earlier in the week and being unable to restrict ourselves, we decided to go all in on small plates. That included the lobster and shrimp sushi roll, squash soup (for some), beets & goat cheese, scallop tartare, and tuna zuke. That plus the complimentary bread (with oil AND butter??) had us off to the races in no time. If I have any criticism here is that the lobster and shrimp sushi came across as too creamy/blended for me--albeit still tasty. We switched to wine for the mains and ordered an assortment of things: the tenderloin, venison loin, miso sablefish, trout, and risotto. I'll tell you know: the folks who got the venison loin wouldn't stop raving about it for the rest of the week. So maybe try that? :) I had the miso marinated sablefish which was absolutely amazing. I was shocked at how rich the broth was, and how strong the miso infusion was even while the fish remained incredibly moist and flaky. Through some force of inhuman ability, a few folks at the table ordered dessert. The lemon tart and some sort of caramel or maple bread pudding of some sort. I can't find it on the menu anymore and within a few minutes you weren't able to find any left at the table either. Fantastic. All in all, it was delicious, efficient, and we left full of food and good memories.

Yelp
I would generally agree with the sentiment that this is the best restaurant at Whistler, or at least that it is tied with Bearfoot Bistro. Araxi is almost certainly the hardest to score a reservation at. Many, many, many months in advance I obtained an 8:15 reservation for a party of 8. We were offered the opportunity to order some starters while awkwardly crowding the entryway. I ordered four dozen oysters, which was misheard as two dozen, which we learned upon receiving them shortly after being seated at approximately 9:07 PM. We received the 3rd and 4th dozens along with newly ordered starters 35 minutes later, and then the entrees at a similar cadence, which meant this was a long night. The food is great, I respect the restaurant, but service was not particularly attentive and nothing was comped for the extremely long wait. Further, upon being handed "the machine," the secondary waitress did not explain that the gratuity was already included, and we were shown a tip screen. Thankfully, I knew this and asked her to clarify, so we did not end up getting scammed. The food is special and pretty cheap compared to any top-tier American steakhouse.

Yelp
Came on a weeknight with a reservation. Service was timely and friendly. More intimate, formal environment and on the pricier side of Whistler restaurants. They have an extensive wine menu and drink menu. 1. Oysters - Average, pricey at $4 CAD each. 2. Seafood trio for two - $20 CAD each person. Good tuna and salmon sashimi but the roll was not that special. 3. Halibut - Special of the night. Celery sauce. Overall good and the fish was cooked well. 4. Sablefish - More unique tasting with the miso broth and asian veggies. The fish also was cooked well. Overall, this is a good dinner spot with quality food. Price can be heavier compared to other restaurants in the area although they're not seafood.

Yelp
Amazing food, excellent service, great ambiance -- and we were able to have our dog with us on the patio. Win win! We started with oysters, and then I had the sablefish and my husband had the scallops, accompanied by a tasty Pinot Gris recommended by our server. Finished with a delicious strawberry and white chocolate dessert. Highly recommend for a nice dinner out in Whistler!

Yelp
Araxi was recommended by a friend and after a fun day of biking for hours followed by an amazing spa treatment, I almost cancelled because I could barely move, but I'm glad I rallied because what a delicious experience. We did have to wait for our table even though we had a reservation but once we were seated our waiter was so friendly and helpful. He noticed our table was off balance and wobbly and quickly folded a piece of paper to stabilize it. Love little touches like that! The food was good, but being from the bay, and working in events, I'm pretty spoiled. I'm not going to say it's too 10 but it was a really great dining experience. There were three of us and one person ordered the bucatini but was disappointed in it (I know it normally gets rave reviews, I think it is because it was billed as having mentaiko but did not really feature it). I got a gin and elderflower peppercorn cocktail that was good but the more I drank it the more I wished it was a vodka soda (my own fault. It was a beautiful drink). We also had fois gras for the table and they accommodated me by providing gluten free bread. It was delicious. I had a salad - disappointingly bland and almost no dressing, not even olive oil. Odd. The can't miss hit of the night we're the fondant potatoes. We actually will now measure all other fondant potatoes against these and are planning on trying to recreate next thanksgiving. I had pressed duck - it was perfect but again, nothing super special. In terms of location, it's very easy to get to depending on where you are staying. We took the shuttle from the fairmont but we could have walked if my legs weren't dead from the daytime activities. It looked like there was lots of parking available. Overall, the potatoes and the service are the star at Araxi. If you are looking for a nicer dining experience in Whistler, Check it ou

Yelp
Every small dish in the seafood tower was delicious. Especially love the raspberry mignonette with the oysters. For my main dish, I got the veal cheeks. This was super tender which I loved. The sauce, however, was a little bit too thick and sticky, but it had a deep flavor. The crispy pieces they placed on top with the Brussels sprouts balanced out the dish well.

Yelp
Made a reservation for 8pm for 5 of us for a bachelorette. We had to wait another 15min as our table wasn't ready which wasn't a big deal. It was very busy on the Saturday night so I highly recommend a reservation if you're trying to get a table on a weekend. We ordered a round of drinks and I ordered the trophy wife which was delicious. The fresh bread and butter that was served was really good. We ordered the lobster roll and tuna roll. Both were good but I would probably get the tuna roll again if I had to pick. For mains I got the duck which was cooked to perfection. I had a couple of the girls that ordered the scallops and pork belly and I preferred my dish (the pork was personally a bit bland for me). Ambiance was good, nothing crazy special. I would say it's a bit dated. Overall it was a great experience in terms of food and I would 100% come back.
