"Tucked away in one of Forest Gate’s repurposed archway, Arch Rivals will resume pumping out excellent globetrotting food and drink from 11 January. They’ll be using suppliers to turn the restaurant space into a small store for butchers shop, dry goods and household staples such as beers, wine, cheese and eggs. Their signature toasties are available all-day and can be ordered in-person at the arch or online. However, evening menu will change daily depending on what the kitchen can get from day-to-day, it’s pre-order only and allocates 3 collections per time slot so that there are never more than three people in the arch." - Angela Hui, Shekha Vyas

"Collection only from Leytonstone. Draw the curtains, light a candle, spill something sticky on the floor, and you’re basically at a bar. Right? Anyway, Arch Rivals in Leytonstone are making marmalade old fashioneds, raspberry gimlets, Manhattans, and more. We like the look of the gooseberry margarita for under a tenner and you can order in a bunch of cupboard essentials and fresh meat whilst you’re at it." - Heidi Lauth Beasley

"A real hidden gem, tucked inside one of the neighbourhood’s myriad repurposed archways, Arch Rivals is a favourite with locals and is a serious destination for exciting cooking. A frequently changing menu of well executed dishes that aren’t afraid to globetrot for influence, original cocktails, and great wines make Arch Rivals a must try for anyone in the area. It’s also an excellent excuse to visit Forest Gate in the first place." - Shekha Vyas

Arch Rivals is a little gem in forest gate. The changing food menu they have is delicious, with the fried chicken, steak tartare and octopus as some standouts for me. They also have a reliable selection of beer on draught with a well stocked fridge. For the more adventurous their cocktails are also worth a try with a range of classics and some with a twist!

Judging by the other reviews on here, maybe I just had some bad luck! The food is pretty good but the service was very slow (we got here just after they opened and only a quarter of tables were occupied), the prices are relatively high (even for a “nice” brunch) and the whole restaurant fills up with smoke from the kitchen. Perhaps gets good reviews because there isn’t anything better nearby?

Fantastic! Great brunch, out of this world sausage muffin and perfect coffee. Creative cocktails, delicious sharing plates and exciting menu. Brilliant owners and staff.

The brunch menu is fantastic, as are the cocktails and bar snacks. Looking forward to the launch of their evening menu.

We had take out from this lovely place last night. Staff (or maybe owners) were lovely to talk to and they had an interesting and well priced selection of beer and wine. The food was wonderful, such a welcome change from lockdown pizza, fish and chips, curry, etc. Lovely flavours, interesting dishes, good portion sizes. Will be coming back regularly and telling all my friends.
