Arizmendi Bakery

This hole in the wall of a bakery in the Mission has some of the best pizza and pastries I’ve had in a while. There were a ton of different vegan options as well. The pizza here changed every day and the combinations are some of the most inventive I’ve had. When I came, the pizza of the day had tomatoes, Arugula, queso fresco, mozzarella, and salsa verde and it was delicious. The pizza slices are pretty hot when you get them but they’re so so good. There’s a huge list of pastries you could get and it’s fun to sample a bunch of them with friends or family. Would definitely recommend if you’re in the mood for pizza and/or baked goods.

got a slice of the pizza of the day and it tasted a little stale tbh. the cheese was hard and crust wasn’t that flavorful. liked the toppings though and would give it a second chance

Friendly service. Loved the cherry corn scone and Mexican mocha. Can't wait to go back and try the pizza--it smelled great. Love that it's open til 7.

I love the pizza here. It’s a surprise everyday. Unless you are like me, I check their menu online before I go. I hate to admit it but I have favorites.

I rarely wait in line for anything but I would do it for Arizmendi when there was a line shortly after they opened on a Friday morning. For one thing, I know their staff is efficient and the line moves fast; for another, it's worth the little wait. The variety of their baked goods offerings is great and the prices are very reasonable, on top of that, this employee owned co-op always have friendly and helpful service. It's hard to pick my favorite item, just come often and try different things.

We accidentally found this bakery on our way and bought a walnut bread which is awesome. The texture and taste is great. We will definitely come back and try their scones and other types of bread.

Mmmmm, mmmmm good. I love the smells of freshly brewed coffee and freshly baked pastry; and will you believe it, right in the heart of the Mission! What it lacks in accommodation (tables to sit and enjoy), it more than makes up with friendly, efficiency and great prices too. Cool & trendy, but most importantly delicious coffee/Bakery joint. My man helping me out recommended the pecan roll and he nailed it! Holy smokes it was better than any cinnamon roll you will find out there. Latte was excellent and perfectly made. There was also a man-made cool chic area to wait or enjoy your purchase right outside. I will definately come back anytime i am in the City

There are things that I really love here: -Mexican mocha -Dirty horchata iced or hot -jalapeño cheddar breadstick -sourdough rounds -salads -pizza with any type of sauce of the day -blueberry snails -blueberry cornmeal muffin -kombucha, they sell my fav brand Support your local co-op!

date visited: 09.21.2024 ordered: cheddar biscuit there's so much other stuff i want to try here - pizza, cookies, bread, etc but i really enjoyed this cheddar biscuit! it was flaky and crunchy, still buttery, and very cheesy :) the space is really nice and inviting and i like that you can pick the pastry yourself. line went quick and the service was friendly. not super expensive either!

I always end up working near a arizmendi which I think at this point is just kismet lol. Their pizza in my opinion is outta this world, it has a perfect balance of TMNT vibes and a New York slice, I can eat the crust and normally I hate crusts (I know I'm a child) anyway! Their baked pastries are yummy and not overly sweet or overdone, I feel like I'm going to a medieval bakery in a castle monastery once upon a time ago and eating good quality and simple baked goods. I'm about it. Coffees good and usually the long lines go down quick, they're on the ball. I will always be a patron here. The space itself is awkward but it just means they have more room in their baking area which doesn't bother me at all and they have that weird mountainous parklet thing in the front that you could soak up the sun while sippin and nibblin..maybe ponder idly if you really need anything from that dollar rack (thrift shop right next door haha)

I love stopping by for a slice of pizza -- perfect size for a snack -- or a pastry in the afternoon. It's not usually too busy. $.30 charge for credit under $10.

It was alright. The pizza was different. Adorably they have a different pizza everyday. Price wise I wasn't shocked. I think it was a fair price. They were pretty quick and friendly. The indoor and outdoor eating areas were cozy. Parking and traffic was a bit busy. I paid a few dollars for parking but nothing too crazy.

Arizmendi Bakery is an iconic SF pastry, bread, and pizza spot - it's a must stop for any visitor! An extra plus: they're worker-owned. I was in the city for Fleet Week, and decided to try it out for the first time. There was a pretty long queue so it was a good sign :P Things to know: they sell one type of pizza, and it changes every day. The pizza I tried had red onions, and peppers - I thought it was pretty tasty! I loved how it also came with a mini slice of pizza to, super unique lol. As for their pastry items, you grab it yourself by the entrance as it's displayed in an encased area. I didn't think this was that great mostly for sanitary reasons, but definitely convenient for grab and gos. Seating is pretty limited here so it'd be best for a quick stop!

Stopped in because of the long ass line of people coming out of this place. Hell, there's nowhere I need to be, let the city pick my food for me right? Got a slice of the Pizza of the day... yeah maybe I ate it like an hour and a half after I got it when it wasn't hot anymore but like god damn was it good. The latte was yummy too. I'm bouta try the cookie. Their bread also looks fire. I'm glad I stopped in. Edit: Just ate the ginger molasses cookie and it's literally so good also there was olives on the pizza and tbh i don't even like olives but I still smacked that shit back it was so good. This cookie is so good. it's so good

Special of the day: mushroom ($18 including tax) with scone. Food is very affordable and good. The crust was the best part. Uncomfortable outdoor seating and short lines.

Friendly neighborhood spot with decent, but inconsistent, bakes at low (for SF) prices. The most consistently delicious baked good I've tried there is the wheat-free carrot muffin (really!). The others seem to vary in quality by day. Their sourdough pizza is only okay, but it's inexpensive and served hot, so I eat it occasionally. Most of the daily pizzas don't have a traditional red sauce base. They are more of a cheesy sourdough flatbread that gets brushed with oil or vinaigrette after baking. If you dislike oil on your pizza (it's not really for me), you can get a "light bake" full or half-pie and they will package the vinaigrette up to go instead of spreading it on. I've done that and used the vinaigrette for salad instead.

I just finished a slice of pizza that my coworker had just picked up from this bakery. He ordered today's pizza which consisted of Spinach, Goat Cheese, Mozzarella, Garlic and Olive Oil. It was so delicious! The crust was very crispy and greasy, just the way I like it. I was so surprised when my coworker said that Arizmendi was a bakery that also sold pizza! That is a great combination of food. If the rest of their baked goods are as good as their pizza, I may go there myself to try some of their cookies and pastries.

This review is just for the pizza lol. It was worth walking through the rain, soaking wet to get to Arizmendi. They have a lot of other baked goods as well as their "special pizza of the day," but I opted for the pizza special (one slice). The special for the day was described as "pear, Radicchio, walnuts, mozzarella, blue cheese, and lemon olive oil slice." And man, I tasted every single ingredient that I was amazed. The single slice was thick with all the ingredients, and the lemon olive oil helped cut through the grease. It definitely was one of the most unique slices I've had and am looking forward to trying other interesting topping combos in the future.

tiny shop with a rustic charm; things are self-serve and payment is fast. but the pie of the day runs out early and there are always people coming in. if you like cornbread you'll enjoy the cherry corn scone, pretty moist and soft inside and not too sweet.

This place is a paradigm of the patisserie arts. I came in and tried their strawberry apricot scone. Quite the delectation. Crunchy on the outside and moist on the inside. Not the usual rush of overwhelming, superfluous, sugar content. Yet, the subtle fruit flavors, greet your tastebuds with a welcoming embrace. And for only $4, quite the bargain. I also had a large, iced latte for $5. The latte was also very satisfying. I also like the fact that they had a well-stocked condiment bar to finish off your coffee as you like with various sugars to include Stevia, honey, cinnamon, and powdered cocoa. Will definitely be a return customer.

Loveeeeee! This bakery has so many options: cookies, breads, scones, rolls, and more. I've been here a couple times, but I still feel like there's so much left to try. They even have some vegan options, which are clearly labeled. This place is about a 5 minute walk from BART. It has seating both inside and outside. Most recently, I decided to try their pizza. I am a Sliver and Cheeseboard fan, so I was excited. Arizmendi has the same concept of serving only one kind of pizza per day. I ordered half a pizza. We had to wait a few minutes, but it still came out pretty quickly. The pizza was given to us in two warm foil packets and each contained two slices and a sliver. I thought it was an interesting way to serve a half pizza. I'm not sure if they always do it like this because it's easier to carry or if they knew that our group had two people. The pizza of the day had broccolini on it. I was skeptical, but it ended up tasting good! The pizza was salty and flavorful. It was similar to Sliver and Cheeseboard, but the crust seemed different and the toppings were unique. We also got a blueberry and strawberry scone, pecan roll, and cheese potato focaccia. The scone was buttery and flaky. The berries provided nice sweetness and acidity. Very yum! The pecan roll was sticky and sweet. You might like this if you like sweets like cinnamon rolls. The focaccia was okay. I think the potato was too much. I didn't like the texture or taste on top of the thick sourdough focaccia. Might just be personal preference though. I know some people who love bread or pizza topped with potato. Really tasty baked goods. I will definitely be back!

Tried this place when I was out in San Francisco. Everything is so fresh. The pizza was great and all of the baked pastries I got we're good. It's definitely not an over the top places but what they have is very good. They make simple things like muffins and cookies.

Arizmendi is a beloved bakery in the Mission district and the daily long lines don't lie - this place is a must-visit! They're known for their pizzas, baked goods, and coffee. And as a vegan, the options are endless! They have freshly baked bread and loaves, vegan muffins, scones, focaccia, brownies, and more! It's so tough to decide what to get when they all look so good! I recommend the lemon poppy muffin or the focaccias. Prices are reasonable and there is some outdoor seating to enjoy your bites before enjoying the rest of Valencia street.

It is hard not to stop into Arizmendi when I'm in the area. They have so many vegan breads, and even some vegan muffins and scones! I used to go to the sunset location almost exclusively but have been recently making the Mission location a re-occurring stop when I travel down Valencia. They are open reasonably late (until 7pm everyday, except Tuesdays when they are closed) and seem to have an ample stock of baked goods well into the day. On the vegan front, the two muffins available are banana nut and lemon poppy seed. The banana nut is perfection. But, they also have a blueberry scone which is equally as good. I like to pair all of the above with a chai tea and sit outside in the stadium style parklet. On a sunny day, it really can't be beat.

Amazing pizza slice, super economical only ~$3 per slice. Super fresh, super tasty! Cheeseboard collective so same as Cheeseboard in Berkeley. Their cookies and scones are amazing as well. We usually get chocolate chip and cowgirl cookies. Go early since they may run out of pizza before they close on weekends (last time we went they ran out at 5PM)

Bakery with a cool vibe! Staff is nice and right in the mission district, baked items are all good with prices ranges from fair to great. Would def recommend to stop by.

Arizmendi has one of the best pizzas in the city! Along with all of their lovely baked goods (esp their focaccia bread), my personal favorite is the pizza without a doubt. They have a different flavor every day and they are all vegetarian. You can check on their site for each day's flavor. The staff is always friendly no matter how many people are lined up out the door. There isn't any seating inside really, but there's cute places to sit just outside. I recommend takeout though.

Cute bakery, but their selection varies greatly whenever you go. They're constantly refilling stock and adding new pastries to the rotation on display, so you might have to come back a few times if there's something in particular you're looking for. They have all the pastries in display cases and it's self-service with paper bags (and no tongs - you grab it with your hand and some parchment paper.) Thet an honor-system for people to line up to pay at the register. It's a bit of a mess but people can figure it out amongst themselves I got to try the lemon poppyseed muffin and a chocolate thing (that's literally what it's called!) and both were on the drier side. The lemon poppyseed was light on the lemon, kinda of like the amount of lemon you'd get when drinking water with a slice of lemon in it - not quite lemon water but it's there. The chocolate thing had chocolate chips dispersed throughout in an equal distribution, but I really wanted it to be as fluffy as a nice brioche... Also a bit disappointed as they were out of savory pastries when I visited, but I'll just have to visit and try again.

What hasn't already been said about this place? It's worker owned, community driven and the folks here are super dope and welcoming. The space always smells good, somehow people are always smiling (must be the delicious pastries, bread and pizza) Their pizzas are the bomb: whole pies and slices alike. There is nothing like a slice of pizza with a side salad and a sparkling water on a sunny day in the mission chillen on their outdoor parklet.

Walking along after eating our Anthony's cookie, we saw Arizmendi from across the street, so we crossed over. My friend didn't know that Arizmendi is also in the Sunset and wanted to show me this bakery that she thought was only in the Mission. Anyway, we didn't buy any breads or pastries on this particular visit as we were still full from lunch, but we got a drink. Service was friendly. Ambiance is busy and this is a popular spot.

Every time I come here I always try something new and delicious. My latest visit involved a slice of one of their mushroom pizzas, and it was damn good. You can't go wrong with anything you order. The pizza came out hot, and they did not skimp on the mushrooms. It's a great breakfast, brunch or afternoon snack spot.

This is such a cute bakery. My friends live nearby, and I always enjoy the walk to the bakery. The lines are usually long, but understandable since the pastries are so delicious. The service is really quick too. The daily pizzas are always something I look forward to whenever I'm nearby in the morning. I remember there was a wall decor saying "Cooperate or Die" and I always thought it was funny.

They have these quesadillas muffins. Not like the kind you might expect from the a taqueria; but, it does have a hint a of cheese in it. Only the muffin doesn't ooze of cheese but it's still makes you go "'mmmm" when you have some. If you're into a different kind of muffin I would just try it. It's not available everyday but when they have it I'll pick up a good number because everyone at work and home likes it too. It's been around for a long while, and they don't have them at 9th Avenue which is one of my main reasons I come to this location. Plus they open again at 07:30 instead of 08:00. I like the people who work here too (and also 9th Ave). They're pretty chill, except there's a new person and the last few times we've come here early in the morning it's taken a long time before she rings up the next person because she just keeps rambling to people even though the line is out the door. Some people know how to converse when a lot is going on; some others aren't so good at it. This one is the latter. But we still come back even though we know she doesn't like us. We like the treats, and everyone else has always been good to us.

Gigantic selection of self-serve baking goods. After a thorough testing and tasting, my humble conclusion is that the pastries are delicious (not too buttery) and not small at all. Ambiance is relaxed and very very welcoming.

Still five stars! But still serving crispy, burnt pizza too often. Not sure why they eyeball their pizza instead of using a timer.

Always a fan fave! Was in the mood for focaccia and tried the mushroom one along with the cheese and sweet peppers. Both bomb and surprisingly really enjoyed the sweet pepper one. Also got the banana nut muffin which if you're into dense really chewy almost doughy Muffins this is your jam! I will def try the carrot muffins in the future. I was good this time and didn't get a scone but next time, Ill have my day with it. Till the next time I want to get my gluten tix!

Incredibly charming bakery with SO MANY OPTIONS. Their pastries are unique and creative, and they have a rotating schedule based on the seasons, so you're ale to try many different pastries in the span of a year. Their claim to fame is their daily pizza slices, which are absolutely delicious. They combine flavors and ingredients that you don't usually find on a pizza, and makes for a quick and convenient lunch. Their baguettes were okay, and little bit thin and overbaked, but a very solid option. I do plan on going back for one since it's the closest place to me with a decent baguette, but I do know there are better baguettes farther out into the city.

A national treasure. The corn cherry scone is the actual cornerstone of the food pyramid. Prove me wrong!

This bakery is right by my church! The pizza always have a variety of veggies combination that has always blown my expectation. They also have an assortment of fresh baked goods! They recently opened up their sitting area indoor but there is also outdoor bench area. Service was fast and kind! Bake goods feel a slightly more pricey but has always been tasty. Definitely recommend pizza and bake goods!

We love Arizmendi Bakery on 9th Avenue and now on Valencia Street in The Mission. Today we had just completed a late lunch at a favorite take out Mexican Cafe ( I will post later about our lunch). It was a Sunday in early October and a beautiful sunny afternoon. We strolled over to the bakery which often has a line leading down Valencia Street. We were lucky and only two customers were in line ahead of us. Yay! Well I have to confess letting my beautiful wife "loose" at an artesian bakery is "Very Dangerous" for our eyes despite just completed a full lunch. She admitted this herself as we began our seize of the bakery racks with freshly baked fruit muffins, scones, and breads. We made of way exploring the baking racks filling brown bags with a wide variety muffins, scones, bread sticks, gourmet cookies and breads. We were surprised by the reasonable prices despite the bakery posting the ingredients of sugar, butter, flour and others illustrating the drama increase due to inflation as high as 42%. Wow. This is a great local bakery, but be prepared to wait-----but we'll worth it!

Delicious pastries and chai! I came in around 9am and it was busy. But the staff is very efficient. All the pastries are lined up on the side for you to choose. Don't sleep on the chai - so spicy and creamy! There's also a huge Parklet in front and one communal farm table inside that fits eight. Only one electrical outlet so not the best place to wfh.

Swung by before going to the cat cafe next door! It was busy but quick. Pastries are self serve. We got a cinnamon roll and a focaccia. Focaccia was SO GOOD. I love savory and it was packed with flavors. Grabbed an iced coffee as well and I was pleasantly surprised at how rich it tasted. I feel like I've gotten a lot of watered down lattes. The ambiance is super cute and welcoming. Would love to come again for a quick breakfast bite.

The scones and cookies were great, but this place had the best pizza I've ever had. Swung by late on a weekday and the pizza was ready in about 10 minutes. Service was friendly and quick as well. I really wish there was a location that was closer to me.

I have tried so many pastries from here but it doesn't convince me yet. I think their dough is so sour to my taste. Everything looks amazing I have to say but I think I will keep trying different goods

Arizmendi was good but can be a little hit or miss depending on the pizza of the day and the baked items you get. Low 4 stars. THE WAIT: None on a Monday at 11:45am. Short line, food took under a few minutes. THE COST: $12 total including tips for a drink, a baked good, and a slice of pizza. This filled me up for lunch. My drink cost the most! * Pizza of the day (Sweet Peppers/Basil/Red Onion/Ricotta/Mozzarella/Hot Honey, $3.25) - 3.5 stars The cheese was a bit thick, and the honey was overpowering. Good crust. You get a free mini slice. Pizza of the day ($3.25) - 3.5 stars The cheese was a bit thick, and the honey was overpowering. * Bread Pudding ($3) - 3.5 stars Dense and moist, but could be a bit softer. * Mexican Iced Mocha ($5) - 4 stars I like anything spicy & sweet! My friend really loved this and especially enjoyed the little gritty pieces of spice/chocolate swirling in the drink. * Cheese roll - 4 stars I tried a few bites of my friend's and this was very tasty. Bread had a thick crisp crust, and the cheese and herbs were very aromatic, the texture nice and stretchy.

Nothing to say but delicious. Everything. All of it. From coffee, scones, bread and pizza this place is simply amazing. Ironically it is decent prices too. And best part is, employe owned! Great staff and customer service also.

I love Arizmendi Bakery! They are right across the street from where my kid went to school for 9 years so I've gone here a lot over the years. Everything is delicious, the staff is great. I love the outdoor seating on a nice day. And whenever you order a slice of pizza it comes with another half slice!

I really enjoy this bakery. As a vegan and coffee addict, this is a great place to stop by for a yummy treat and good service. The daily baked goods are self service, so you can grab as many as you like and there is a variety. The labels blue labels are very helpful to identify which ones are vegan. There is an outdoor bench area to sit, eat / slip coffee and watch other patrons indulge in yummy treats as well.

Whoever invented this idea of an extra pizza sliver has my whole heart! Not as great as Sliver in Berkeley imo, but still a great choice for lunch when I'm in a rush! For their baked goods, I've tried their cheddar jalapeño sticks, mexican chocolate muffin, currant scone, banana walnut muffin, and sourdough bread. The cheddar jalapeño sticks were a bit too stiff, but the rest were great picks!

I love the mission statement written on the walls of the bakery, of providing locally-sourced baked goods at affordable prices! There's still lots of pastries left to try, but in my opinion the star of the show here is the daily specialty pizza!! Definitely look ahead of time on their website to see which day's pizza looks most appetizing to you, but I don't think you can really go wrong. The half pie is $12 and plenty for me to split between two people!

I love that this particular location of Arizmendi feels so integrated into the neighborhood. It can get busy, but it still feels relaxed. The workers are friendly and efficient. I've been here twice and tried their vegan blueberry scone, vegan lemon poppyseed muffin, and city sourdough loaf. Out of the two pastries, I liked the muffin the most. It was moist on the inside but had a bit of bite on the outside, and it wasn't too sweet. The vegan scone wasn't my favorite - it was a bit dry and not as flavorful. I did love the sourdough loaf though. It was fresh and was the perfect bread for a sandwich I made after taking it home. The most recent time I visited, my friend and sat outside on their parklet. It seemed like many customers were leaving with breadsticks or pizzas, so I'll have to come back and give those a try too!

I always come to Arizmendi for their Pizza of the Day! I think their prices have increased slightly with COVID, but it's still a great deal at $14 for 2 servings (4.5 slices total). Their flavor combinations are posted online, and they're always so fun. Wish it would come with some sauce to add additional flavor though! They also have a great selection of freshly-baked breads + pastries that are always so tempting in their display cases. Everything seems pretty reasonable priced, if not cheaper than other SF bakeries. Will definitely be back to grab some bread next time I'm here!
