In a neighborhood rife with cute coffeeshops, Ash might have already cemented itself as one of the best, as I encountered in my visit soon after its recent opening. Located on a romantic and out-of-the-way little corner in the heart of a VA Highland residential neighborhood, it seems like Ash almost popped up out of nowhere. However, it's meticulously decorated, cultivated, and cozy interior shows that much work and thought has been put into this spot, and it will be sure to function as a community staple and meeting/work spot going forward. We visited on a busy Sunday morning, and perused their ample supply of quirky gifts and tchotchkes, hinting at Ash's status as a little sister of Little 5 stalwart Junkman's Daughter. We were floored by the quantity of delicious looking sweet and savory food items, and settled on a tasty banana walnut loaf and a chocolate chip scone. For our beverages, she went with a classic iced with oat milk, which passed the test, whereas I went experimental with a special peppermint tea latte, which was a sweet and decadent morning treat. Ash is quick to become a neighborhood favorite for gifts, lunch, and morning coffee and a much needed community spot in this corner of the neighborhood.
