"Delivering around N5 and surrounding areas. The food at Au Lac is reliably delicious and that’s why it’s such a local favourite. Sit indoors at this Vietnamese spot in Highbury and you might just see Nigel Slater tucking into thịt kho, a silky smooth dish of caramel pork. That’s something you’ll want to order, along with the fragrant mince pork, dry fish and aubergine hotpot. It’s a must." - heidi lauth beasley, jake missing, rianne shlebak
"A 24-year-old business run by Vietnamese/Vietnamese-American mother-daughter duo, Mai and Linh Nguyen, Au Lac might also very well be the longest-running vegan restaurant in Los Angeles. It all started over a quarter of a century ago when, after overcoming a severe health problem that involved several invasive surgeries, Mai had an epiphany - animals fear death just like humans. Over the course of four months, she completely left her dairy/meat-heavy diet behind for veganism, recovered from her illness, and opened Au Lac Downtown thereafter. Au Lac became Mai’s passion and outlet for advocating animal rights. And after trying their salt and pepper shrimp, I was influenced to seek out more vegan food and restaurants myself. The texture and flavor of this appetizer is so similar to the real thing that my reflex was to leave the shrimp tails on the plate. I also love their aromatic beef pho and crispy calamari made from king oyster mushrooms. Whichever your diet may be, they will curate and pleasantly surprise you with Vietnamese and Chinese dishes." - esther cho, with warm welcome
"Au Lac is Highbury’s go-to Vietnamese, and it should be yours too if you’re in an N postcode. Crispy chilli squid and punchy papaya salad are go-tos here, but if you’re looking for something without so much kick then the mince pork, dry fish, and aubergine hot pot is an excellent choice. As is the chilli caramel pork or salmon." - heidi lauth beasley, jake missing
"Head here for Vietnamese vegetarian fare by chef Mai Nguyen. Regulars sing high praises for the restaurant’s salt and pepper yam “shrimp” and garlic basil noodles. For those heading to the Walt Disney Concert Hall, Au Lac is the perfect vegetarian-friendly stop for a pre-show meal." - Virali_Dave, Eater Staff
"As a key DTLA vegan spot, Âu Lạc takes its salads seriously. The lacinato kale and sea vegetable salad is full of flavor with spiced almonds, cucumber, kimchi, a macadamia “cheese” kale crisp, and teriyaki dressing. If salad cravings are still present and in the OC, there’s a Westminster location." - Eater Staff
