The Best Restaurants in Santa Rosa | Eater SF

"Brought to you by the same team behind nearby Stark’s Seafood and Steaks, this little French restaurant in the former Portofino building knows its way around escargot, delivering five versions of the Burgundian classic in a tres chic French-style bistro setting. Start with black truffle butter snails, then sate your Taillevent-driven cravings with Dover sole Grenobloise or beef cheek Bourguignon. And for dessert? Three French cheeses, mai oui. A short list of French wines and Frenchified cocktails (think, French 75 or vesper) seems curated to match the vibe." - Christina Mueller

Had dinner and love the place. We came early without reservations Tuesday evening but I will recommend one as when we left at 7, the restaurant was full. Definitely order the tartar beef onion soup and beef cheeks. Endive pear walnut salad is crispy but could be better with a little more dressing. Confit duck and escargot are good but expected. The pancakes dessert is wonderful. We will probably come again if we are in Santa Rosa.

Dear Augie’s French Team (especially Eddy!) Oh my gosh—what a night! I had the absolute best time celebrating my birthday dinner at your restaurant, and I just had to say… thank you thank you thank you! From the very first bite of the Steak Tartare to the Liberty Farms Duck Confit and that divine Steak Frites—it was like a love letter to ingredients. Every dish was so thoughtfully prepared, letting the natural flavours really shine through. Honestly, I didn’t think “must-try restaurants” were really a thing for me in the U.S., but you completely changed my mind. I would totally recommend Augie’s to anyone and everyone. It’s that good. And let’s talk about the service! Eddy, you were an absolute star. Even with a packed dining room, you made us feel seen and cared for with such grace. You noticed how much I loved the bread (guilty! carbs are my love language), and your dessert recommendation? Life-changing. I’m not even kidding—better than a Michelin dessert I had. You made my night extra special with that sweet surprise, and I’m still dreaming about it. It’s such a joy to know a restaurant like this exists in Santa Rosa. I already can’t wait to come back. Thank you for making my birthday dinner feel so magical. With love, sparkle, and serious gratitude 💖

Google
Our lunch was fantastic. We sat outside on the cute front patio and enjoyed dining in the sun, protected from by the black and white striped umbrellas. I had a glass of Chablis which was nice along with the endive salad and the omelette. Everything was perfect. My husband had the burger which was one of the best we’d had in a while. Fries were good too. 10/10 recommend. Can’t wait to go back.

Google
I order duck confit basically whenever I see it on the menu, I would rate this place’s duck confit 10/10. Absolutely amazing!!!!! And the starter bread, also extremely delicious. The snails could use a little more umami though. But overall, super super tasty food

Google
We were really pleasantly surprised by Augies. The food is absolutely Delicious. bite after bite, we are pleasantly surprised by everything we tried. We ordered oysters, escargot, scallop gratin, endive salad, onion tart, muscles, steak, chicken and heaps of frites. Ended with a stunning dessert mousse. Absolutely everything was stunning. The cocktails were also lovely. We sat at the bar and the atmosphere was great. Our bartender was very nice. We traveled from out of town, but we truly hope to visit again one day!

Google
came here once with awful company but the food was so good i had to come back with a better companion. food is traditional, stellar, outstanding. shout out to Ben the server who’s probably the best waiter we’ve had the pleasure of being served by in a long time.

Google
We came for happy hour and it was great!! They had good deals for oysters, we got 1/2 dozen for $14! The drinks were also great, we loved the Kir Royale. The menu overall seems pretty pricey, and some of the descriptions are tricky to understand if you don’t know words in French, so be willing to ask your server or do some research. The ambiance in here is great. It’s such a cute small place with really great furniture and decor. Would definitely recommend for a date night, or for a good spot to try some new foods!

Yelp
This French restaurant is the culinary equivalent of a love letter written in butter. The food? Très bien! Every bite felt like a baguette-toting angel whispering "oui oui" in my ear. The service was magnifique--our server floated through the dining room like a ballerina, balancing plates with the grace of someone who definitely never drops their phone on their face in bed. The décor? Let's just say if Paris and Pinterest had a baby, it would be this place. Think soft lighting, chic accents, and just enough vintage flair to make you feel like you're cooler than you actually are. And don't get me started on happy hour--it's so good, it almost felt illegal. Half-priced drinks and snacks so good you might consider writing your will to include the croquettes. The hype is real, folks. This place delivers. If this restaurant were a person, it would be that effortlessly stylish friend who shows up late but always brings champagne. Run, don't walk. Bon appétit!

Yelp
AUG2024 Cute little date spot. Service was helpful with any questions we had, water refills infrequent. Depending on how busy it is, the service can kinda drop off tho as I had to flag people down for different things over the course. We arrived just in time for happy hour so we loaded up on things to try. We had gotten the ahi tartare, the steak tartare, button mushroom provencal, pigs in a blanket, frites, hazelnuts, gnocchi, and the anchovy toast. I took the gnocchi and mushrooms home later as the sun set and it got quite cold. Everything was cooked well, and the flavors were nice. Favorites for me were the pigs in a blanket and the hazelnuts really. The white sausage was a nice turn on the dish. The hazelnuts were scrumptious. The button mushrooms and the gnocchi were quite heavy on the butter sauces for me and needed something to counter balance it. Nice for a night out though maybe a seat at the bar might've been better for the two of us at the end of it.

Yelp
Everything about our visit to (Stark's) Augie's French met the highest standards of excellence--food, service, and ambiance were exceptional! Special thanks to Raul P. for delivering impeccable service throughout the evening. Our party of four indulged in a variety of dishes and drinks, and every item was memorable * Drinks: Margaritas, a Manhattan, and wine--all mixed and served to perfection, setting the gold standard. * Starters: The Sweetbreads were the best we've ever tasted. The Endive, Pear, and Walnut salad, paired with a generous Roquefort cheese chunk (somewhere between a golf ball and a hardball in size), was both decadent and satisfying. * Mains: * The Coquilles St.-Jacques lived up to its saintly name, perfectly balanced and rich in flavor. * The Beef Cheek Bourguignon was tender and deeply flavorful--a true delight. * The Steak & Frites hit the mark with its perfect medium-rare cook, and those frites? Hot, consistently salted, and leagues ahead of anything from fast food. * The Mussels were plump and coated in a perfectly seasoned sauce, complemented beautifully by yet another round of frites. We were so satisfied with these rich culinary treats that there was no room left for dessert. Augie's French Restaurant is truly a gem, and this experience was nothing short of extraordinary. Highly recommended for anyone seeking top-tier dining!

Yelp
My friend decided to treat me out to some French cuisine. Never had any before until now and I can see why she wanted to take me here. This place is located in downtown Santa Rosa. You'll have to find parking on the streets or in a garage. I'm not sure if you need to make a reservation, but doesn't hurt to get some reservations ahead of time. As you walk in, there are two floors and is quite small. There are booths and of course a bar! After looking at the menu, there were a few things I really wanted to try. Since growing up, I kinda knew that Vietnamese dishes had a French influence to them. From baguettes to their escargots , but their own twist. Here we were served baguettes with butter and of course we ordered escargot with truffles and a cheese egg omelette with truffles. Oh how delicious these came out. Of course we couldn't stop there and we got the duck confuit. It was all delicious and of course a simple meal. I quite enjoyed it.

Yelp
Augie's French is located in downtown Santa Rosa and is part of the local Stark's Restaurant group. All of the Starks restaurants are wonderful so I was excited to finally try Augie's as I've heard nothing but great things! I made a reservation for three for a Thursday evening. When walking in I immediately noticed the warm ambiance and the friendly staff. The restaurant wasn't too busy when we arrived but by the time we left it was very busy! For a cocktail, I had the French 75, which was very refreshing! We ordered several items including Brussels Sprout Gratin with parmesan-garlic bread crumbs to share, which was delicious! For my entree, I had the Gnocchi a la Parisienne with summer truffle, brown butter and parmesan cheese. For dessert, we shared the Profiteroles au Chocolate, which were just perfect! Everything was absolutely delicious!  I enjoyed my experience and look forward to dining at Augie's again in the future!

Yelp
This place is worth all the hype it's been getting! Darling atmosphere, great service and every dish was fantastic. The Vesper cocktail, sweetbreads appetizer and beef cheek bourguignon were the standouts. And honestly the bread and butter was....the best I've ever had. We went through two servings of it. We'll be back! There was so much more we wanted to try

Yelp
Ambiance was very pleasing. However service lacked a bit because of how I was dressed we were ignored a bit. However 8.5/10 on the whole experience it was worth it. I would come again but I hope next time I don't get ignored because I don't look white or wealthy. Food was very pleasing and the snails and drinks worth the hype

Yelp
Augie's French is probably one of my favorite french restaurants in Santa Rosa thus far! It's such a cute little restaurant and a warm ambiance. The servers here are super friendly and very attentive. We came around 3PM and didn't realize it was only a bar menu from 3 - 5. Next time we'll come back for the full dinner menu! We ordered an array of items. Starting with oysters which were delicious! They were fresh and sweet! So yummy. Then we had the Three French Cheeses which was a perfect little sharing plate for the table. For our mains we got Onion Soup Gratineé. SO GOOD. So much flavor; all the ingredients blended together perfectly. My favorite was the Prime Burger Royale. It was cooked perfectly and the onion marmalade they use as the condiment was such a pleasant surprise. It paired very nicely with the meat. It comes with fries and they were also very tasty. I just wish it was a little bigger so I could have more! Can't wait to come back for the dinner menu!

Yelp
Cute little date night spot in Santa Rosa. Friendly service and I love the baguettes. The star dish was definitely the beef bourguignon. Not a fan of the onion soup. The upstairs atmosphere was very intimate and romantic. Thanks!

Yelp
Wow, just wow! I stumbled upon this hidden gem a couple of weeks ago while craving French food, inspired by hours of research for my upcoming trip to France. After drooling over photos of French cuisine, I discovered this local spot in Santa Rosa and knew I had to give it a try. The ambiance inside the restaurant was amazing, definitely gave off Parisian vibes. Since it was a busy night, we grabbed seats at the bar, which added to the experience. We ordered the French onion soup, beef cheek bourguignon, and the ravioles gratin. The standout for me was the ravioles gratin it was incredibly rich, creamy, and bursting with flavor. The beef cheek bourguignon was also absolutely delicious, tender, and full of depth. I'm so glad I found this place. If you're a fan of French cuisine, you definitely need to check it out!

Yelp
Unbelievably Good! This is authentic French cuisine and I am thrilled this has arrived on 4th street. I am all in on the French onion soup, it's a delicious dish. We also had the Jamon and Butter tartine that is the real deal, they must import the Jamon from France. The service was excellent as our bartender was attentive. The decor is very elegant and modern. This is now my go to place. Can't wait to go back.

Yelp
Stark's does it again. Augie's French is simply stellar. I visited for happy hour and loved all their crafty and delicious appetizers and drinks. The Croque Madam was especially otherwordly-- definitely recommend that alone. The flavor of each dish is fresh and unique and honors French cuisine well. Service was efficient and their decor is timeless and elegant. The butterfly wallpaper and velvet furnishings are a gorgeous touch. I appreciate all Augie's has to offer, conveniently located in the heart of downtown. Looking forward to trying their dinner service next time!

Yelp
I wanted to come to this restaurant to check out the different types of escargot. Who knew that of all places to try different ways of cooking escargot I would find it in Santa Rosa! And I am glad that we went here. The ambiance is industrial cheek feel. The place is nice and the staff was super fast and friendly. We ordered eight dishes and got all of our food probably within 15 minutes of each other. Items that we ordered: Black truffle escargot and garlic butter escargot: both were really good. The garlic butter was probably my preferred one though. Never had escargot with black truffle and it was surprisingly pretty good, not my preference and there is an odd match of flavors, but it worked. French onion soup: unfortunately it wasn't my favorite. The soup was a little bit more watery and bland than I expected. The cheese is good though. Gnocchi: this was amazing! It seems so simple, but it does not taste that way. You have to order this. You won't regret it. Three french cheeses: who doesn't love cheese? Each cheese was so good and so smooth and so flavorful. I could eat so much cheese here. The honey and marmalade were a nice combination as well. butter lettuce salad: I liked it! I like that they gave us an entire half of the lettuce head. The dressing was good and not too overpowering and the perfect amount. Great fresh vegetables. Endive salad: also really good. The blue cheese was great with the pears. Highly recommended salad. button mushrooms: if you love mushrooms, you will love these. Augie's did a great job of adding a good flavor and the mushrooms were juicy. Excellent! Mussels and fries: maybe mussels are just not in season right now... It was OK. The fries are fresh though! I really loved this restaurant! I wish I lived closer to Santa Rosa and I would be a frequent customer here. I have found it hard to find a really good French restaurant, and here it is! Definitely come here!

Yelp
Great location, space , service and food. I had the burger with fries which was probably the best burger I've ever had . The salmon entree was amazing duck confit excellent.

Yelp
The Starks pumped out another great restaurant. Been here twice and both meals were very enjoyable. Decor gives a warm rustic and mid century modern vibe with accents of tastefully eccentric wallpaper. Started off with garlic frog legs and the butter garlic escargot. They offer the frog legs Buffalo style too but we decided to stick to more of the classic flavor. Frog legs were very tender and I would highly recommend them. Escargot were great too, can't go wrong with anything soaked in butter and garlic. The table bread was a nice compliment to our appetizers and great for mopping up the sauces from our apps. They whip their butter which is my preferred style of butter. I wish the bread was pre cut as we had to use our hands to tear it up since the bread had a nice crust on the outside. Waitstaff happily gave us more bread when asked. Sometimes some place give a stink if you ask for more bread. For our mains I got the duck confit, my husband ordered the Beef Cheek Bourguignon, and our friends got the mussels frites. My duck confit was solid. Crispy bits on the outside, tender on the inside. The potatoes Lyonnaise that come with the dish were equally the star of the dish. My husband enjoyed his beef bourguignon, he said the beef was very tender. The mussels and frites were a generous size. Ample amount of fries. Sometimes you never know if mussels will fill you up or not. We also shared some sides, the Ravioles Gratin and button mushroom. Mushrooms were good but no thrills. Raviolis gratin were great and not too heavy. The size of mini raviolis were so cute and dainty. For dessert, we shared the crème brûlée and the apple tarte. Overall great food, great service, great vibes.

Yelp
First if all...most EXCELLENT service and spot on recommendations by Benjamin K (thank you!!!). The host team was super sweet and extremely welcoming. And the food was fabulous and and the drinks were amazing (wonderful cocktail and wine offerings, too!). The vibe was welcoming, noise level (seated in the loft) was just enough to give a vibrant energy to the place but still be able to hold a conversation. The beautiful holiday decor made for a festive experience and was a lovely way to kick off a family holiday weekend. Kudos to the whole Augie's French staff...hope to be back soon. In the meantime, will highly recommend to anyone visiting the Santa Rosa area. Merci beaucoup!

Yelp
I wanted to try Angie's French but wanted to wait a bit to let them get established. Yesterday was my Birthday and I thought why not. First off it's in a great location on 4th street, tons of parking all around. The restaurant itself is cute and not fussy. We ordered a lot ( group of 6). We started with the raw oysters, frogs legs and the duck terrine. And then cocktails, everything was presented beautifully but also not over complicated. I had the Steak frite, the steak was cooked perfectly s were my French fries, my only drawback was the sauce on the plate under the steak it had a bitter taste I didn't like but honestly that was the one and only faulted I could find in the entire meal. We felt welcomed and appreciated, the wait staff were attentive without being pushy. I will definitely be back!!!

Yelp
Such a great addition to the Santa Rosa restaurant scene from the Stark group. The ambiance is so amazing...instantly transporting the diner to Paris. It feels old and at the very same time, modern. The wallpaper is amazing as are the lighting fixtures. Beautiful bar as well. We've dined there a few times and so far...everything has been perfection! The French classics like steak at poivre, escargots and pinion soup are all very good. I especially like their oysters and the bread is excellent. The happy hour menu is generous as well and very well oriced. We've had their vesper which is fabulous. Lots of great French and local wines as well. The service is French and polite...that is to say excellent. Parking around back is very helpful. Love it.

Yelp
One of the newest in the Stark suite of restaurants is Augie's French. We've spent time in France and more time in Santa Rosa. Here's the ultimate test: can Augie's make a French Omelette correctly? Every single breakfast place in Santa Rosa cooks omelettes at high temperatures which siezes the protein in the eggs causing them to taste like dried out, bland sponges. So I ordered the Omelette and it arrived as heavenly perfection--creamy, buttery, soft, delectable. Add to the praise list the Cassoulet the husband unit enjoyed and the hamburger a friend had who said, "This is the best burger I've ever had in my life." A side order of little mushrooms cooked with brandy brought us to yet another level of joy. Oh and my Negroni was perfect too. Our waiter's service matched the food and the place is gorgeous to spend time in. Five huge stars.
google avatar

Shawlien K.

Yelp
Augie's exceeded my expectations! Loved the ambiance and the way they decorated the inside. Our waiter and staff were super nice. Kept checking on us to make sure our waters were full. The food was delicious! Even the complimentary bread and butter! The butter is salted and whipped, and spreading it on the bread made it that much better. We started with French onion soup and Coquilles St Jacques (scallops). The scallop dish blew me away! Scallops were cooked perfectly. The bacon on top gave the perfect crunch with the scallops and I loved the creamy sauce it was in. The soup was flavorful, and exactly what I think of when I get French onion soup. The duck confit was to die for! Perfectly crisp on the outside and the meat inside was tender. I loved the sauce with the potatoes and figs. One of the best duck confits I've had. My husband got the brown butter Parisian gnocchi, which melted in our mouths. I would say the gnocchi is on the softer side, but delicious anyway! The hazelnuts and cheese really added to the dish. We were too full for dessert, so next time we will get one and try new dishes! This place is 10/10 for sure.

Yelp
We had dinner here in early January and had an excellent time. We had the sweetbreads al la plancha as a starter and they were excellent. love sweetbreads prepared like this and the only better example of this basic style (pan cooked with sauce meuniere or something similar) which I have had recently is the one at Musso & Frank in Hollywood, and they have been doing that dish for decades. 5 stars. This could easily make a main course on its own. One of us had the parsnip soup, hard to pass up and rare to find here. It was excellent and the fried sage leaves were an outstanding addition. 5 stars. Beef cheek bourguignon was also excellent. The meat was outstandingly tender and flavourful and the sauce excellent, the little bits of pork belly (I think) a nice touch. 5 stars. The green beans almandine were very good. 4.5 stars. The brussels sprout gratin was phenomenal and simply the best thing we had. It was like vegetable candy. It was not too cheesy at all, the sprouts were finely sliced or shaved and piled in, mixed up with the cheese, etc.; there were breadcrumbs and nutmeg. It was very similar to brussels sprout dishes which I have had at nice restaurants in England and that is good, but I don't think I have had better. It was impossible to improve on this here. 5 stars. We had an excellent wine. We finished with the Floating Islands,a traditional English dessert also popular in France and this is the first time that I have ever seen it in California. It was also excellent. 5 stars. Service was excellent, very friendly and efficient. The place itself is nice and in a great location at the heart of downtown. We have always loved this location with the bare brick walls and big windows looking on to Courthouse Square, ever since it was Portofino. We're glad to see it again as a great place and they did a nice job with the decor and ambience. It's also nice to get another place serving this type of fare around here and Augie's especially gets points for serving dishes like sweetbreads, which haven't been too popular for a long time, outside old-school, atavistic places like Musso & Frank or the now long-lost Iron Horse in San Francisco. We have had somewhat mixed experiences with Stark restaurants, all are good but they vary greatly (all are nice, but for example, we love Stark's Steakhouse and have been going there regularly since it opened, finding it outstanding in almost every aspect; Grossman's and Monti's we find to be nice places, but the food, although good, is definitely not outstanding and some things at them are disappointing). This ranks as one of our other favourites.

Yelp
A great new addition to the Stark catalog and something that downtown Santa Rosa desperately needed: an upscale restaurant that can actually deliver good food, drinks, service, and ambiance. Our first visit was for dinner. We tried two of their signature cocktails and shared their outstanding cheese board, steak frites, and an assortment of sides. Everything was delicious and prepared with care. They've got a solid little happy hour bar menu from 3-5pm every day they're open. We tried the gorgères, pigs in a blanket, and the burger. Pigs in a blanket were interesting. The chicken sausage was great, but the ratio of pig to blanket strayed too far from the classic iteration and the puff pastry wasn't fully cooked through.. even after they re-did them. The burger was the least impressive, but still good. The meat quality was average and it was definitely overcooked from our medium request. The onion jam was delicious, but way too much was added, taking over the flavors, making it messy, and wasting product. Looking forward to trying the French onion soup and the beef bourguignon on a future visit.

Julia C.

Yelp
Amazing restaurant experience and the Stark's hit it out of the ball park with this newest addition. My husband and I shared the scallops and escargot appetizers and both were absolutely incredible. I had the mussels and frites and ate every single French fry. I wanted to drink the sauce but controlled myself. Husband had the beef cheeks and I must admit the tastes I had were beyond compare. Vanilla bean crème brûlée topped off an incredible night out.

Yelp
We loved our meal at Augie's French! We initially popped in and sat at the bar for one glass of wine, but ended up staying as the atmosphere and service were so cozy and nice. All the wine we tried was excellent. We also shared their Three French Cheeses and steak tartare. Both 10/10. We ordered the moules frites as our main which was outstanding. Everything from start to finish were solid 10's and we will return next time we're in town.

Yelp
What a happy accident! On our way to other places Santa Rosa was our overnight stay. While driving I let my husband pick somewhere for dinner, because we have been talking about escargot he looked at some French restaurants and settled on Augie's. We walked in with no reservations and thankfully they had a tall bar table For us. Dear Lord! This was the best meal of the year and first meal of my birthday weekend. Everything was soooo delicious. Just like soo soo Delightful. The restaurant is beautifully done on the inside. The service was lovely! Raul was knowledgeable, we let him decide some things for us. Jesus was so friendly, kept our water full and brought us warm bread so we could literally clean the plates of all the sauce. (More people should do this, don't know how many hours goes into these sauces) Bread and butter- can you get any more French than this- AND the butter was whipped and room temp (love)! Ants in a log- my first escargot experience was delicious (amazing sauce) and not nearly as chewy as people told me Sweetbreads- first time for me, they were good, sauce was amazing, I wouldn't order again just because I got in my head a bit much Steak Frits with bone marrow- like STFU and just eat so good Gnocchi- dear freaking lord I've never had such light gnocchi and now the husband and I are think we may have had bad gnocchi all our life Apple Tatin- apples were cut larger than traditional and they use the ice cream from their neighbor, very good Brûlée- simply perfect

Yelp
First time trying French food and Augie's did not disappoint! Everything was delicious but the duck confit really stood out. The interior of the restaurant is beautiful!

Yelp
I have got to say that I feel that Augie's French is Stark's best restaurant yet in Santa Rosa! Everything the entire evening was spectacular. From the greeting, changing our table for us, the fantastic service, to the entire meal was perfect. This was my birthday from my best gal pals. We started with French Onion soup, Lyonnaise Salad, Pate de Campagne, and the Smoked Salmon appetizer. Everything was done to perfection and what large portions! We also started with cocktails, while I had a glass of French champagne which was oh so tasty! My 4 gal pals could not resist ordering the beef cheek bourginone and I ordered the salmon paillard. All were delicious and cooked perfectly and well seasoned. For dessert we had the creme brulee which was probably the most delicious of any creme brulee I have ever had, the apple tart tatin and a small dish of the most flavorful ice cream ever! I can't wait to go back. 5 star service, 5 star food. Love the setting as well. The acoustics were great too, I was expecting a very loud dining room but not so!
google avatar

Yelp
the food was delicious, the ambiance was good, but the service while great when we first arrived really took a nose dive after our lunch was served. we almost felt we needed to get up from our table and track someone down at first to order desert after getting a desert menu and then to get our check after feeling we had waited long enough for a desert order. If not for this it would have been 5 stars.

Yelp
I recently when to Augie's with some friends for the first time and loved it. We sat at the bar and enjoyed the drinks and appetizers. The ambiance and staff was amazing.

Yelp
We needed a French restaurant badly in Downtown Santa Rosa after the closure of Bistro 29. Here comes Augie's French with some of French's classics including onion soup, escargots, steak frites, beef cheek bourguignon and various wines from France. Everything here was lovely, from the decor to the service from our server and the attentive wait staff who kept refilling my water! The customer service was wonderful. For dinner, we ordered the French onion soup to start. Must try! Very warm, inviting and opens up your appetite for dinner. My hubby ordered the Prime Burger Royale which came with frites. It was delicious but the combination of the onion marmalade and truffle mayo really soaked the buns with resulted in both buns being not edible. I had the Roasted Mary's 1/2 chicken. The jus was a bit on the salty side but chicken was cooked very well and perfect size for a person. We also ordered the Brussels Sprout Gratin. I was told by the server that it wasn't Brussel sprouts. It was more like a mash of sprouts cooked with cheese and bread crumbs. I had some on the side with my chicken but was too salty. We finished with the classic vanilla creme brulee (can't go wrong!). As with Stark's ventures..they are all great restaurants and Augie's will do very well tapping into French cuisine that is much needed in the area.

Yelp
Went a second time on November 30th with a couple who were too ill to go with us the first time and we tried a few new dishes. The Chilled Oysters were excellent, the smoked salmon also excellent, the Grilled Boudin Blanc house made sausage, excellent, and the Mussels & Frites were, sadly, disappointing. Everything about the Mussel dish was great other than the tiny Mussels within the impressive shells. If the dish had looked like the photo in yesterday's local paper of this dish I would have been over the moon, but, no, the Mussels I was served were tiny in comparison and really should have been pulled from the menu. The "repeat" dishes from last time, Beef Cheek Bourguignon and Steak Frites were every bit as good as the first time as was the service and ambiance. I would hope in future if a dish does not meet up to the high standards the Stark's set in all their other restaurant, (we've been to them all), that they simply 86 it off the menu.

Yelp
Took my dad, my oldest son, and his girlfriend to this restaurant exactly at 3:00 p.m. on a Thursday. Everything we tried was delicious. We tried the onion soup gratinee, escargot with garlic, the pigs in a blanket, chilled oysters on the shell, prime Burger Royale, three French cheeses, croque madame, cream brulee, profiterole au chocolate. Our host, Maya greeted us and seated as promptly. Our waitress was Diana, and she was very nice, helpful, and made us all feel comfortable. The service is very attentive. The ambience and atmosphere of the restaurant is nice and relaxed. I did read and some reviews that some people didn't like the onion soup. But in my opinion the soup was cooked perfectly, with a good amount of cheese, slices of French bread, caramelized onions, and the broth was flavorful. The escar go with garlic, was delicious and served in the shells (It's a nice touch that not too many restaurants still do). The pig's in a blanket, came in its own pan, served with mustard, and the sausage was delicious. Oysters on the shell were very fresh, tasted like the ocean, and were delicious and served with condiments. The Prime burger was perfectly cooked medium rare. It was a bit messy to eat but it was very delicious. And I have no complaints about the texture of the meat. The three French cheeses were all delicious and served with French bread, radishes and greens, hazelnuts, honey and onion jam. The Croque madame was a grilled cheese sandwich with thin sliced ham and a sunny side up egg. This was a bit messy to eat but every component of this sandwich was delicious, and all the ingredients go really well together. My dad needed to go home before our desserts were served. So we had to take dessert to go. Our waitress was understanding and packed our desserts to go. We had some cheese left over and they packed it to go for us. And they included the greens, hazelnuts, and the honey and onion jam condiments as well, which was a nice thoughtful touch. The cream brulee was delicious. The profiteroles were delicious as well. Both desserts are made European style, which is not too sweet and that makes it perfect and delicious. Like I said, everything we tried was delicious. You can tell that there was a lot of thought put into the preparation of every item, Even the side greens, dressings, and condiments were delicious. This place rocks and is perfect to bring a loved one. My only regret is that I need to go back during dinner time to try the dinner menu items. So when my son and his girlfriend can get the same night off for dinner, we will be back!!

Yelp
Service could have felt more personal and less rushed (as with all Starks restaurants) BUT the steak with the bordelaise sauce and bone marrow butter was unbelievable. Hands down best steak I've had in the area in I don't know how long. It was packed as always seems to be the case so hard to sort of relax and enjoy yourself but I'd definitely go back solely for the steak.

Yelp
French cuisine is bewilderingly beautiful. We celebrated our V day here and it was perfect. The service was exceptional. Seating upstairs was dark and vibey. Love the decor. We ordered the cheek dish and tried the French onion soup. Unfortunately the soup wasn't a hit for me. I've had much better. I think the flavor wasn't there at all. However the cheek dish was divine. Our server recommended it and stated it was his favorite. Really happy we gave it a try! So think oyster bar, but instead they had escargot. If escargot is your thing then give this place a shot. I'm curious about the rest of the menu and hope to try more dishes out soon. Really nice addition to dt Santa Rosa.

Yelp
Another wonderful dinner at Augie's French on 4th Street. We both selected 9 ounce pours of Le Clos du Caillou Cotes du Rhone to accompany our meal. We both started our meal with the evening special of tomato soup with a dollop of creme fraiche. For main course, my better half went with her favorite item on the menu, the red onion tart. I went with the poulet frites, which came with Béarnaise sauce. We ordered the tasty brussel sprouts gratin to share. The food and service were perfect. We don't mind sitting upstairs at Augie's since service is just as good upstairs and down, usually not the case in our experience. We were sad to learn that tonight was the last night for our favorite server, Mary. She is always very professional, super friendly, and kind. We wish her all the best and much success as she leaves Augie's to focus on her career in education. I am sure she will be a favorite teacher for all her students. We will miss seeing her at the restaurant.

Yelp
A very nice dinner made special by our server, Anthony who was incredibly kind, funny, and attentive. Between my boyfriend and I we had the oysters, sweetbreads a la plancha, duck confit, and steak frites. Everything was extremely tasty and nothing was left uneaten. We finished dinner with the brown butter caramel mousse, decadent but worth every spoonful. The restaurant itself is also beautiful and feels very cozy, however it also was very loud when we first arrived. The tables are very close to each other so we could hear every conversation happening around us. Will absolutely go back!

Yelp
Really good French restaurant. A bit loud and cramped, but the food is worth it. I got the duck which was excellent. Have been there at least 4 times. The last time was not as good unfortunately. The potato slices were way over cooked (blackened), but when this was pointed out, got correctly cooked potatoes. Service is attentive and prompt. Excellent cocktails. Deserts were good.

Yelp
Lovely restaurant with good food. This is the latest restaurant the Stark family has opened and we had a really nice meal here. Staff were cordial, friendly and attentive. We had seats across from the bar and it was entertaining to watch the drinks being made and how the seasoned staff were training a new staff. We started with pomme frites and pate' de campagne. The fries were delicious and the pate' was thick, hearty and paired well the baguette we were served. I liked the pickles that came with the pate' too. Hubby enjoyed his duck confit immensely and said most places overcook the duck and it gets too dry. The duck here was crispy outside and moist inside. The sauce served in the dish was tasty too. I especially liked the beef cheeks with pomme purée. The flavor was really good except it was too salty. We were fairly full but shared a generous vanilla creme Brulee'. It had a nice crunchy and thicker carmelized crust like munching on sugar candy and a creamy center. I wanted a more vanilla flavor to it but it was a good Brulee. Definitely a place I'd like to return to for another meal.

Yelp
Had no idea about Augie's until a recent trip to Santa Rosa. I'm so grateful this spot was part of our itinerary. The entire experience was amazing from start to finish. We ordered frog legs, escargot, salmon, beef cheek, mussels and fries, and the crème brûlée for dessert. NOT A SINGLE BAD BITE! And honestly the best French dishes I've had outside of Paris. Even their side bread and butter were delicious. I also ordered their vesper cocktail and it was cold and perfectly balanced. We shut the place down and we never felt rushed. Everyone was so friendly and helpful, our waiter even nicely packaged and labeled our take away since I didn't want to leave any spec of food behind. I will travel back to Santa Rosa for this spot.

Yelp
Delicious food, yet immature servers. The portions are overly expensive. The ambiance is nice, and the food is quite unique. However, it does hurt your pocketbook, and you will leave hungry.

Yelp
This was a really nice dining experience. The table service was on par. The black truffle escargot was really good. The whole dining experience was wonderful. The handmade gnocchi were unbelievable. If you like French Onion soup. Have it! The other French restaurant in Santa Rosa is nice too. But, there's a new place on the block. Check it out.

Yelp
So I was looking for something new and cool for Mike's Burfday dinner and found Augie's French restaurant to be the perfect spot for us. We got there about 5 minutes late because all of Downtown Santa Rosa was closed down for some event, I'm not even sure what it was but we got there and were graciously welcomed by the hostess and shown to our table! We started with 2 Manhattans made with 4 roses Bourbon and sweet vermouth and a bit of cherry juice which made it delicious! Then we ordered the oysters to start then we had the escargot with truffle butter and they were both delicious with some warmed baguette truly delicious! Then I ordered Mike the Riesling from Alsace dry style and I had a glass of the Crozes Hermitage a spicy Syrah from Northern Rhône region and it was excellent! Then I ordered the liberty duck farms confit of leg and Mike got the steak and frites which was cooked perfectly and my wine pairings worked out nicely!! Then we finished and were on our way as much as I wanted dessert it was too much food for me to eat what I had!! So dessert another day! Our waitress was great and I don't recall her name! But it was an exceptional dinner and priced well as you are aware prices have gone up tremendously since the pandemic and I was walking out paying $150 plus 30 tip which is a fairly inexpensive night for us!

Yelp
Santa Rosa and Sonoma County now have yet another reason to celebrate. A little slice of Heaven, by way of Paris, Lyon, Brussels, and Sonoma County itself, has gently nestled into Santa Rosa's Courthouse Square: Augie's French. The menu is a kind-of "Greatest Bistro Hits" done as well as or even better than we experienced in Paris. Perfectly delicious bread and butter to start? Check. Onion Soup Gratinée topped with the exact right amount of the exact right Gruyère cheese? Savory, succulent paté, grilled sweetbreads, and tartare made with prime filet mignon? Fresh, beautifully presented oysters on the half-shell? Of course. And more. Well-crafted salads featuring top-quality produce. A standout? A marvelous combination of endive, pear, walnuts, Roquefort cheese, and an amazing vinaigrette made with sweet, fortified, old-vine wines from Banyuls, France. Conversation-stopping entrées, including a grilled boudin blanc, mussels and crisp, tender, slender, flavorful frites, beef cheek, and steak topped with bone marrow butter. Desserts you'll eat and enjoy even if you're "too full to eat another thing." Brown butter chocolate caramel mousse topped with Maldon flake salt? Chocolate profiteroles with pistachio cherry ice cream? Still too full? Maybe a dessert wine, cocktail, or spirits-enhanced coffee drink can help. It looks and feels like a comfortable, intimate, non-stuffy bistro, with just enough Northern California spin in all the right directions. Including a staff as helpful, engaging, and efficient as the food is delicious and the space is charming. Go. Bring friends so you can all sample multiple menu items. Enjoy how local treasures Mark and Terri Stark and their team have crafted a blend of French and local inputs and influences as rich and satisfying as your favorite mix of varietals, from France or Sonoma County.

Yelp
I am a huge fan of Stark's restaurants ...however not so much for Augies. The decor is nice and our service from Rico was excellent. My not-so-favorite things though was my french onion soup - tasty but super salty. I also had the escargot with garlic butter but the boursin cheese in them was, well just odd. However the rest of the group were pleased with their meals - hamburgers, fish, duck and filet mignon. So maybe I'll try it again and order differently. Seems many other folks adore it so don't take my review as the one to pay the most attention to.

Yelp
We are excited to have another great dining option here in Santa Rosa. It's a good sign when reservations are fully committed for days. I walked in and happily snagged a high top which had a great view of everything. The space is very cool, with fantastic wallpapers. I guess you would need 25 foot walls for images of giant butterflies! Great lighting both at your table and overhead. We tried a bunch of items. First off was the French onion soup. It looks gorgeous and tastes very good- not great but solid. The onion tart was pretty awesome! Great combo of flavors. My wife tried the gnocchi which were very light and the whole dish was excellent, salty as heck but she loved it. The burger and frites were next. I had high hopes for both but the frites were soo salty I couldn't enjoy them. But again, my wife happily devoured them. Besides the salt, they were excellent. Unfortunately the burger was not for me. I was initially excited because it looked great and many others raved about it. The texture to me was off putting. I know that sounds weird but I swear the beef was really coarsely "ground". Great flavor but weird texture. I took half home and had it the next day- yup it was the texture. We are both looking forward to going back because there were lots of things we still want to try!!

Yelp
Popped in at the bar, there was a wait for tables. Trevor took great care of us and helped with recommendations. Food was delicious. Had a great leisurely dinner. We did get a baguette and some butter with our appetizers too. Bathrooms super clean, varied seating throughout the restaurant and there was an upstairs too. Would go back for sure and recommend others to try.

Yelp
Wonderful addition to downtown Santa Rosa dining scene. Augie's has elegant ambiance. Great staff. Lovely experience overall. We were a party of 6, and our waiter at an upstairs table, Benjamin, was fantastic. I can't say enough about him. Food was very good overall, although a few menu items were better than others. Best choices: sweetbreads; brussel sprouts; burger; duck confit,;and chocolate/brown butter mousse for dessert. The only two somewhat disappointing choices were the black cod special that night, which was a tiny portion, and lacked flavor, and with the fig clafoutis dessert. Augie's offers many authentically French menu items that one doesn't see anywhere else in Sonoma County.
