The Best Montreal Microbreweries and Craft Beer Bars | Eater Montreal

"This relatively new arrival in a former bingo hall has a big list of craft beer on tap from its Fashionista New England IPA (the one with the hipster on the can) to its Mr Brown British-style brown ale. Neapolitan-inspired pizza and pasta round out the microbrewery experience." - Eater Staff

I've heard good things about the pizza from Avant Garde and they definitely were as delicious as people said it to be. The pizza were very light and not greasy. The tomato salad was also actually so good. They have a pretty decent selection of beer (duh it's a brewery) but I wished they had more options for those who don't like beer. Nevertheless, I would go back here to eat !

Good selection of craft beer and fire oven pizza was delicious! I liked how the crust was soft because I normally don't eat thick crust. A great location to hangout before or after a game at the stadium.

Omg what a place! Good beer selection, until the moment all the beers were delicious. It is an amazing place to have an enjoyable, chill drink and tasty food. We had pizza and you can feel the freshness of the ingredients and the distinctive tomate sauce... everything is appetizing. We have returned since we went the first time and it is always amazing! We love this place

Enjoyed the pizzas at Avant Garde. It was decently busy on a Friday night but we didn’t have to wait long to be seated - a little bit of wait to place orders and pay the bill. The Tout est Chill beer was great (nice and sour).

We really wanted to love this place. It's really close to our home and the idea of artisan beer and napolitan style pizza is great business concept. The beers that we had were had great flavour and the selection was vast. Unfortunately, the pizzas were very dissapointing and came up short. We've been there several times now and had the same experience both times. The problem with the pizzas are that they are charred and burnt. As a result, the sauce and toppings are overshadowed by a burnt pizza flavor. We observed other customers who had ordered pizza as well having the bottom of their pizza burnt. Would not come back for the pizzas, if they can improve the pizza, I think this place would be a hit.

Brasserie Avant-Garde on Hochelaga Street is a fantastic spot. The beer selection was awesome with plenty of unique and flavorful options to try. I really liked that you can also buy cans on the spot to bring home or give as a gift. I picked some up for a friend’s birthday and they absolutely loved it. Great atmosphere, great beer, and a cool place to support local. I’ll definitely be back.

I ordered the fish and chips and man was it delicious. Really a nice location, right next to Action 500. Don't worry about parking, there is free parking in the parking lot.

The pizza was great , it’s should come with fries but that’s my opinion . Service : We were a group of 15 people , we stayed for at least 2hours and a half and NEVER did the waitress come to ask if the food was good or to offer more drink !!!!! And there was least than 30 customers and 2 waitresses!

Yelp
Avant-Garde Artisans Brasseurs was born in 2016 from the joint imaginations of two young men determined and talented, tortured at times, but no less cute: Renaud Gouin and Shawn Duriez. Bringing together all the necessary qualities to give birth to a major brewing phenomenon, they first courted a little timidly then, noting the almost perfect match of their ambitions and the complementarity of their personal abilities, have united. Today they hold the galloping reindeer of a hypothetical empire of fermentation and claim with optimism that, I quote: "the fruit of our genius is absolutely ripe and its flesh supple and pulpy. Its assimilation by the human of tomorrow will be great, and its digestion will bathe a dazzling light and warm future civilizations. "(Reference) In addition to time and space, their only constraint is to create what they want. So they go from beer to beer according to the seasons, patiently materializing their vision of a better world. In 2018, Avant-Garde merged with Jukebox - also founded by Renaud Gouin - to build from scratch a superb production brewery next to a chic chic tasting room in the premises of the late Bingo Hochelaga, the hottest bingo in town.

Yelp
During my extended stay in Montreal I visited 20+ breweries and Avant Garde was my favorite. I am more of an adventurous beer drinker and am always on the lookout for unique brews and AG delivered. On sight I had the raspberry lemon sour (very tasty) and in addition I got 4 cans to go, the Fred Velvet being particularly delicious. I was impressed by their creativity and variety. As for the ambiance it was a standard brewery, nothing special and the service was decent.

Yelp
Nice brewpub to eat with kids, no kids menu though. Tried fish and chips and two pizzas!

Yelp
We walked here after spending the morning at the Olympic Park. It's a bit far from downtown where we live but certainly worth a visit if you're up for a trek or in the area! It's also connected to the gokart/paintball venue Action 500. Great selection of beers, both traditional and more funky. I like it a little funky so my favorites were the Nature Urbaine and L'Équipée Sauvage. I also enjoyed the Hesperides which was a guava sour. They also make pizzas in their pizza oven, and we enjoyed the Ne pleure pas (spicy sausage) and Cet anneau d'or (kind of like carbonara but on a pizza.) There were some other ones I would definitely like to try in the future as well! The service was nice and quick (Saturday ~4pm) and the space is cool and open to the terrace. They have some bigger tables for larger parties as well. All in all a nice place to hangout and we'll definitely be back!

Yelp
A little bit out of the way from other spots, this large brewery/taproom is open from the afternoon, offering a significant line of different drafts. A whole array of tables up front, as well as foosball off to the corner. Beers range from $3-7 depending on size and style. A few that I tried: "BZ" - a light german berliner with a sour taste to it "Classique" - a mild hoppy ale "Doux Bisous" - wheat style beer that's an overall easy finish. From what I had the beers are on the lighter side, making it a solid option if you want to drink something fast. Wasn't sure if there was any food here, but as it's a new spot it could be in the works. More of a low key stop for now.

Yelp
Great selection of micro beer at a reasonable price So happy to see gems like these popping up in this neighbourhood. The service was amazing and the decor is great. I love that you have a view into the brewery. Oh also, tey should be getting a basic food menu soon!

Yelp
This place has just opened a few days ago, and I feel like it's going to become one of my favorite spots for the summer! This is a tap room that mostly showcases Avant-Garde and Jukebox products, but also has some collaboration products with other microbreweries (Ippon, Echo Session Ales, Noctem when we were there). For those who are not fond of beer, they also serve kombucha! There's a lot of thought that has been put in the decoration, but this is definitely a work in progress. Hopefully, this place can have more options than just chips on the food menu (although they are teaming up with Hochelaga Pizzeria for now)! :) Long live the Avant-Garde!
