Ba Restaurant - Review - Wagner - Milan - The Infatuation

"Ba Restaurant, which opened in 2011, is a fixture of Milan’s fashion-forward dining scene. Tucked away in De Angeli, its modern design and dramatic chandelier set the stage for an experience where service matters as much as the food. Opt for a six- or eight-course seafood-forward tasting menu or go à la carte (also, Ba is one of the only restaurants in Milan to stock wine from China). The kitchen reinterprets Cantonese traditions with modern twists that give the food an intriguing edge, from the carefully sourced ingredients and refined dim sum to dishes like silky king crab and corn soup, duck dumplings, and a gorgeously plated kung pao chicken." - Elizabeth De Filippo-Jones

"This restaurant combines Chinese traditions with contemporary, fashionable design in a dining room where large red lamps and small lanterns on the tables create an intimate and relaxing feel, accompanied by lounge music as a backdrop. The modern twist added to the classic Chinese dishes gives the cuisine an interesting flavour, from the carefully chosen ingredients and quality of their Dim Sum to our inspector’s favourite dish, namely the scallops with XO sauce, asparagus, foie gras salsa and cured ham chips." - Michelin Inspector

Ba Restaurant is one of those places that impresses you the moment you walk in. The interior is beautiful, refined and genuinely inviting. As for the service - top notch. Very attentive and warm, although a small minus for not bringing the wine and drinks menu right away. Food-wise, they have some truly standout dishes. The Spicy Sichuan Wonton is a hit, and the Sichuan aubergine with meat could easily pass as their signature dish. Now for the tricky part. The food is good, sometimes even very good, but the prices… well, they occasionally feel like a stretch. Paying an average of 4 euros per dumpling is hard to justify. So the biggest downside here is simply the mismatch between the quality and the price. All in all: a solid, tasty experience and we will definitely be back to try more dishes.

Amazing experience in Ba Restaurant! Everything was impeccable, service very attentive and accurate, food was delicious, well paired and beautifully presented. I loved every dish. Desserts are heavenly! I would definitely recommend this little gem and I’ll definitely be back.

Went there for lunch deal and left happy There is a choice of * Spring roll & Edamame * Starter (some dumpling) * Main + Sidedish including water, coffee and service. The service was a bit inattentive (sometimes wished they would see that we are ready for the next step). In addition I recommend to also provide (black) paper napkins - in addition to the white cloth napkins - that I prefer to keep on my lap. Food was very good -and the dessert we added was stunning!

Very good tasting menu experience. I had the signature tasting menu and I really appreciated the link between traditional Chinese tastes and innovation in the recipe. I really loved the dim sum dish, especially the salmon one. The dessert really made the menu: I had never had pop corn ice cream and I can’t stop thinking about it.

Amazing experience! The attention was excellent and the food was worth it of a Michelin restaurant. Elegant fine dining, in a beautiful setting. Diego (our server) was the sweetest and most cordial ever! A lot of small attentions that really made the difference

Absolutely good food, no doubt about that. Dishes look well designed and the service is really thoughtful. Personally I found it a bit sterile, the atmosphere, the blinded windows, the overly correct service. I think it’s a bit superficial. Prices are quite stiff, not worth what’s served. But still it’s good food.

Good food, service and place. Prices are very high. You pay for the good ingredients but also for service and location. I ordered prawn damplings, si chuan eggplants and Kung pao chicken, drink water (bill 42 euros). All delicious, chicken was quite spicy.

This place deserves more of a 3.5 stars but I will round up. As many have shared, most dishes are good, service is SUPERB, and the ambiance is elegant without being over the top. No need to dress up excessively either. One star less because I am a huge fan of dim sum and their dim sum dishes are not great - they are just okay. They are a bit smaller in its size in the world of dim sums. The scallop dim sum was a bit fishy, aka the scallops were not fresh, sadly. The ciao long bao is really average (I’ve had A LOT of these little guys - even within Milan alone there are better places for this), the meat had a bit of smell. However the “dishes”, like the char siu styled ribs, king crab rice and the tofu dishes were amazing. Overall the crowd is a bit older and more of the neighborhood vibe and not necessarily the cool young hip vibe as you would see in another dim sum place say at the MU dim sum.
