Where To Eat Outside in Fort Greene

"The next time you want to eat something that’s healthy, quick, and not the exact same thing you already had for lunch three times this week, try Baba Cool. This all-day cafe has bowls, toasts, salads, and sandwich options that come with meat like jerk chicken and brisket. There are also a bunch of vegetarian options on the menu and most things cost less than $15. And if you need a break from your couch, you can seat yourself on their huge curbside patio with string lights and white patio tables." - nikko duren

5 Exciting Things To Do & Eat In NYC Between June 1st - 7th

"Now that it’s officially ice cream season, local businesses are upping their dessert game like they’re on a TV challenge, and we’re not mad at it. One collab we’re excited about comes from Caffé Panna and Baba Cool, who are offering new flavors throughout the summer based on some of Baba Cool's house-made pastries. Starting today, you can get mini pints of Tahini Granola Bar and Lemon Ricotta Biscuit at both Baba Cool locations to eat there or take out. Caffé Panna makes some of the best ice cream in the city, so be prepared to make at least a couple trips to try both." - neha talreja

Google
Hadn’t realized they moved, thankfully we figured out they had just moved down the street! This is one of our fav go-to brunch spots and the new location has made it even better!! The Brisket Bowl is our absolute favorite! It’s also fantastic for people wanting something low carb/high protein. The back patio is lovely and we so appreciate how dog-friendly and welcoming they are to our pup! Some people complain about the service, and when it’s busy you do have to be more assertive and ask for what you need, but we’ve never had significant issues. Zach was super helpful during our visit today and we will certainly be back again soon!!

Google
Really cool spot with a covered back patio! The food was amazing and it was fun ordering “a very good cocktail”. It was the name of the drink, and lived up to its name! Loved the vibe at Baba Cool!

Google
Such a lovely lunch spot and very conveniently located for my friends from different ends of the city to meet up. We all got the Gabi’s Breakfast and loved it. Will definitely be back.

Google
I love the atmosphere of this breakfast place. It’s super convenient to get to & the food isn’t bad. It also opens up early enough to get a quick bite before school! I got the spicy pulled chicken sandwich & the bread was sooo crispy. It wasn’t too spicy either. The waiters were a little bit distracted that day but I enjoyed the conversation I had with my friend. Some of the things on the menu are a little bit more on the expensive side. Also, if you’re planning to go with a party a 5+, they will require a 20% gratuity tip— which i think is a little bit much. However, i will definitely be going back again!

My friend and I were looking for a new place to eat after our event at BAM, this evening, and discovered Baba Cool right across the street. The menu is simple, and includes vegetarians and vegan options.Their cocktails are made with natural ingredients and my friend and I very much enjoyed their "Very Good Cocktail". I had the baby beets and my friend had the Brussels sprouts. We both enjoyed our dishes. I also had the Baba Fries with grated cheese and scallions. I brought the rest home. We had an accident and my jacket got wet. Our server, "Michael", offered to hang up my jacket to dry while we were there, which I very much appreciated. It was still raining heavily when we were about to leave, so my friend and I sat back down. Michael came back over to chat with us, and made our additional stay very comfortable. We were very impressed with the level of customer service and congeniality we received from the manager and staff while we were there. We will be going back.

Google
Cute spot with really good food. The Drunken Gabi was flavorful and hearty, a nice portion to split. The Brussel sprouts were also a great portion and deep fried. The beets were a refreshing starter to share. Shrimp toast was a good size and flavorful.

Google
The food was horrible. We waited a while but that’s fine since it was busy. I took one bite and had to force myself to swallow it. We ordered the chicken and turkey roasted sandwiches. It tasted like dead bird. We both took a bite, paid and left. We basically paid 32$ for nothing. The waiter even saw that we barely even touched the food. But he didn’t say anything. Any how nice way to start the year lol

Google
Really cute spot with a great vibe! The atmosphere was warm and inviting—perfect for a relaxed brunch or catching up with friends. The food was solid, nicely presented, and flavorful, though I was hoping for a bit more variety or boldness. Service was friendly and attentive for the most part, but there were a few delays here and there. Overall, a cool place worth visiting if you’re in the area!

Yelp

Yelp
We came after watching a movie at BAM across the street. Very convenient location and was open late after our movies finished ~8:30ish Since it was chosen for convenience, we weren't expecting everything to be so delicious! My drink, the Holland Oat, was such a great combination of different flavors--I loved it even though I'm usually not a fan of bourbon. The French fries were crispy, and the mayo was delicious. The ricotta and honey combination was also so good with their toast, which was crunchy on the outside but chewy in the inside. Ordered their olive oil chocolate mousse even though I normally don't like mousse that much because it was the only dessert on the menu, and it was amazing, with a great flavor profile. The bartender was super friendly, and it was awesome to listen to him explain his thoughts behind some of the cocktails. His passion for mixology was so fun. Not sure what it's like in the daytime as a cafe, but as a bar at night it's got super romantic ambiance with beautiful decor and little candles.

Yelp
I frequently come here just for the salad, which is perfect. My friend ordered a pulled chicken sandwich with jerk spices; juicy meat and a nice crunchy ciabatta roll. You cannot go wrong with the French fries. I love the space because you can either set up with your laptop or you can bring a book or you can go on a date! Perfect for anything honestly. Met Michael, bartender, who's great. Love the energy. He even topped my coffee off with no charge. (A rarity in Ft. Greene) haha. 10/10 would recommend this spot.

Yelp
Baba Cool in Williamsburg is a cozy all day cafe serving delicious and wholesome food at an affordable price point. We went for a leisurely Saturday brunch in their outdoor patio and began with a round of beverages, the rose lemonade and fort green fog which were both refreshing. For mains we ordered the carny breakfast sandwich, a bacon egg and cheese on brioche, and the brisket sandwich prepared with broccoli rabe and pickled Fresno. Baba cool is our new favorite brunch spot and we're excited to spend some more time in their sunny backyard oasis now that spring is upon us

Yelp
Food is okay for the price but the service is sooo bad. We waited for a long time for the server to take our orders. I don't know if it's intentional but they kept ignoring our table/eye contact. We asked three different servers for water multiple times during our visit and finally got some after we already finished our food. It felt like we're begging for a simple cup of water. Having a hard time to get our check is another story. The only time our server smiled at us was when they showed us the tip option on the machine. There was not even that many guests at the cafe. They should just make the cafe self-service if they don't know how to serve people.

Yelp
I forgot to take a picture of the chicken sando but I'm going to start with this. The service at this place is one of the best I've personally received in New York. The staff was so kind and helpful when seating us until the time we left. They made sure to always have our waters full and to make sure everything was good at our table. I'm very happy with the experience here and the Brussels sprouts were GAS. Hope this helps! Cheers!

Yelp
Great brunch spot! My friends and I came for brunch around 10:30am and were seated immediately. We all got the gabi's breakfast bowl and thoroughly enjoyed it (I wiped the plate clean)! My friend also had a chai tea that she enjoyed and it also came with a cute design! Overall we enjoyed our experience and food and look forward to coming back!

Yelp
We came on the weekend with a reservation. We sat in the back patio which was spacious and many people had their dogs. It wasn't super crowded so we were able to pick our own seats which I appreciated as many of the tables were in the sun because the patio is not covered. We opted to sit near the fence for a bit of shade. My friend brought her dog and we were grateful for the spaciousness of the patio but since the dog is a puppy it would've been helpful if there were less leaves on the floor. There were also a lot of bugs. We ordered the asada bowl, the gabi, the baba fries, a matcha latte, and a coffee. The asada bowl and the gabi were very similar with the same white cheddar scrambled eggs avocado, and pretty raw salad. The only difference is the asada bowl came with brisket and the gabi bowl came with sweet potato and brussels sprouts. Every item in the bowls were delicious! The fries were very thin and crispy. My matcha was okay but nothing memorable. Overall, the food is good, the service is friendly and we were able to take our time. Next time I would probably opt to sit inside.

Yelp
Living in Fort Greene, Baboo Cool is a great neighborhood gem. I remember the first time I ate at Baba Cool when they just opened at their old location. Now, they have the new expanded restaurant with the delightful patio. The staff is friendly is friendly, service is quick. The food is just as good and the menu is expanded. Most important, the food is high quality and very enjoyable. I love the turmeric latte. Not many places serve them and it is delicious. The matcha is also a favorite. The sandwiches are great for either lunch or dinner. My favorites are the Brisket, Carny Breakfast and the Vegetarian breakfast. Avocado toast is fresh and really tasty. I love their kale salad. When you want something sweet and, I always do, the Warm Chia Pudding is a winner. I'm happy to have Baba Cool just a few blocks from home. I highly recommend stopping in for some yummy food and drinks!

Yelp
Charming cafe with deliciously fresh food! Came on a weekday and was seated right away in their spacious outdoor backyard! So lovely. Plenty of seating in the shade or sun. Now let's talk about the food. Incredible! I ordered the Gabi and a rosewater lemonade. Absolutely divine! Everything was fresh and well flavored. The ingredients of the bowl were so creative and satisfying. And the lemonade was perfect on a hot day. Baba Cool deserves 5 stars. Service was wonderful. I can't say enough good things!

Yelp
Really great place to listen to music and drink wine. Service is sweet and the backyard is amazing. Better than a lot of other spots in the neighborhood.

Yelp
baba cool is one of those spots that just gets it right--great energy, thoughtful food, and a vibe that makes you want to stay a while. Everything feels intentional, from the menu to the space to the people. It's a go-to for a solo coffee, a long brunch, or anything in between. Always hits.

Yelp
Needed a quick, somewhat healthy option before running a few errands and this spot really ticked off what I was looking for. Though the sandwiches caught my eye, I'm trying to cut down on my bread consumption so I ordered the baba bowl. Honestly, I didn't even miss the bread. This is a fall lover's dream bowl! I did add their slow cooker brisket for $8 to beef up the dish. I could still see it being yummy without but if you like meat, this brisket is *muah*. Tender, juicy, just fatty enough, this element really paired well with the garlicky sautéed greens and sweet butternut squash. I also loved the green sauce that adds a bit of punch to the bowl. This bowl was hearty, filling and totally delicious. I also loved my latte. It was simple and cute and made me feel all warm inside. Service was fast and they only offer outdoor seating or to-go. I'll definitely be back to try some more items. 4.7/5

Yelp
Loved this little spot. Their back patio is now open and it's dog-friendly. We came for happy hour, but had no luck (the internet didn't tell us it's only Monday-Thursday). Either way, we had beers, margaritas, fries, and the whipped ricotta. The whipped ricotta was a clear favorite for me, though everything was delicious.

Yelp
Where to begin?! We're longtime Fort Greene residents (with a bit of time travel cross-continent) and remember when Baba Cool opened in its former space on Lafayette Ave...and also remember when the space was a bike repair shop...and a video store...and... Suffice it to say the Baba Cool 1.0 was a cute neighborhood spot in a tiny (read: tiny!) space. Fast forward to its new location and...wow! The space is spacious and beautifully designed, with a large garden in the back. The difference between 1.0 and the new location is night and day. Last night, we were able to score a table even though the restaurant was crowded during a pre-BAM rush. The owner, whom I recognized after having seen her a number of times when she opened/ran 1.0, handled the crowds really well. We waited about 10 minutes and were seated...and treated, to wonderful food and drinks. We ordered -- and highly recommend -- the whipped ricotta (with what can only be described as a quasi mille-feuille-type of bread...yum!), the baby kale salad (equally delicious) and the Drunken Gabi (a delicious Asian-themed pasta dish that was both sweet and spicy). Our friends split the steak frites and said it was delicious. What we didn't expect, and are thankful for, was the generosity of the owner and staff: We can only assume that other patrons -- in their rush to get to BAM -- didn't have time for dishes that they'd ordered, so we were gifted a number of yummy plates, like the Brussels sprouts and broccoli rabe toast (which the wife thought was the winner of all the dishes). We were touched that the staff kept coming by to see if we wanted the dishes that the kitchen had prepared for people who had to leave. Far be it from us to turn down delicious food. We also thoroughly enjoyed our cocktails and mocktails and, if we'd had space for dessert, we assume we'd have found those quite good too. Before I go, a huge shout to the staff at Baba Cool; they were incredibly warm and gracious and never pressured us to hurry or free up the table. What a wonderful way to treat patrons; we can safely say that the owner has done a great job with the front-of-the-house crew. Can't wait to go back for more! (And I'll be sure to take pictures.)...Got some pics during the morning shift, but no food pics yet.

Yelp
Easy to make a reservation for weekend brunch, friendly service. The bowls are healthy, we added a protein. One of the beef sandwiches was on the dry side. Kid friendly. Outdoor dining available but there were mosquitoes when we went because it was peak summer.
google avatar

Sarah T.

Yelp
Truthfully I was still a little salty from my previous experience, but decided to give it another try. The service was much friendlier and the brisket bowl was amazing. A perfect lunch when you need your protein.

Gabriel C.

Yelp
It sucks cause I really wanted to root for this place. But have consistently noticed how I have been deprioritized when other parties get seated, especially white folks, they would get their orders tended before me even though I'd be seated earlier. Kinda sucks and have communicated this to the people up front and they are non-responding.
google avatar

Kierra S.

Yelp
Quality is just not there for the prices -- feels like they are trying very hard to make it fancy. All the effort is spent on presentation and plating. Food was too salty and my $9 beer was *comically* small. It was a normal threes brewing ipa -- not some crazy high percentage sour that you might expect to get in a whiskey glass. When I somewhat jokingly complained to the waiter he said he agreed it was absolutely ridiculous and would top me off, but never did. Ultimately would've been a decent meal of not for the exorbitant prices and small portions for the sake of perceived fanciness.

Jeff M.

Yelp
Service attentive, thoughtful. Food fine. Drunken noodles way too salty. Ambience was great. Cute back yard and a smatter of Brooklyn's best for company.
google avatar

Keith H.

Yelp
I first learned about Baba Cool last year, and it's definitely a great spot for breakfast or lunch. They have an ample amount of outdoor seating, and there is a welcoming and casual vibe to the place that makes it very appealing. If you are looking for a great breakfast sandwich, then go with the Carny Breakfast (which includes scrambled eggs, cheddar, and bacon on a brioche bun). I also liked their lemon ricotta biscuit, which had a nice balance of sweet and citrus flavor. The rosewater lemonade is a refreshingly floral beverage, and their coffee is also solid. I am eager to try more of their menu when I visit again.
google avatar

Colleen L.

Yelp
got a salad to share and it was nice that they put it in two bowls without us asking! overall pretty solid

Ruthie K.

Yelp
Drinks are fantastic and service is friendly and attentive! Especially big fan of the fries. Favorite place to stop by after a movie.
google avatar

Susan H.

Yelp
It's fine I wouldn't return because slow service and pricey for what it is but the food they had was good. Maybe a 3
google avatar

Shayla S.

Yelp
Beautiful ambiance that was carried over from the previous location! The wine and snacks for the opening were good as well.
google avatar

Danni B.

Yelp
Horrible service. Went in was told to sit at the bar although there were plenty of available seats. Finally got sat by the door only to have the waiter lean over me to get someone else's order. Later ordered some fries that never came. Informed the manager who just shrugged. I won't be stopping in again. Food was mediocre. And I hate to bring up race but I think I know why I was the only black customer in the place. I don't fight such things I just take my money elsewhere.
google avatar

Kelsey A.

Yelp
Super cute spot! The cappuccino is excellent and the warm chia pudding was perfect. The inside of this restaurant is tiny, so expect to sit outside or take your food to go.
google avatar

Kristin H.

Yelp
The new location is a must. More space, indoor and outdoor seating, and a great rotating menu. Locals vibe and the owner is great.

chicava t.

Yelp
Amazing amazing! the new spot is wonderful. Gabby has been a gift to the neighborhood since she opened. Her team did a remarkable job serving 1st responders and poll workers throughout the pandemic. All the food is yummy I love the Asada bowl and cacoa drink .

Yelp
Best bar in Fort Greene - great cocktail and wine selection, beautiful backyard, fun ambiance

Yelp
amazing vibes, great staff, great food and drinks. I loved the whipped ricotta toast, the pastry it was on paired really well and had a lovely mint garnish - fantastic!

Yelp

Yelp
Wonderful restaurant. It's intimate, and the drinks and food are so good. Great after-work spot or having dinner with friends
google avatar

Yelp
Great food, amazing selections. Just a great hang out spot. If you're looking for a place with a good crowd this is the place.
google avatar

Katy Z.

Yelp
Came for here an early dinner and happy hour drinks. The service and quality of the food was great! Absolutely would recommend.
google avatar

Chaunna H.

Yelp
I wanted to love it but I didn't I had the Turkey sandwich. They ran out of the bread it was supposed to be on and swapped for another. When I bit into it, the bread was so tough and tasted almost stale. It was difficult to eat. I liked the concept of the sandwich but execution could have been better. Like melting the cheese on top of the meat and not into the bread slice. More like a $9 sandwich instead of $15.

Nate H.

Yelp
What's your Joshua, Michael, Joshua or Michael we're the best we're the best The best drinks I had such an amazing time and the french fries are to die for
google avatar

Matthew W.

Yelp
Amazing restaurant! So happy they moved to a bigger and much more beautiful location!
google avatar

Faith C.

Yelp
Brisket sandwich ($14) was really good--meat was tender, flavorful, and plentiful, broccolini was cooked well, sauce was nice, and the bread was perfect. Ordered at the window and they brought it to our table outside.
google avatar

Charles H.

Yelp
Tiny indoor space, a front door that needs fixing and expensive but good food. Mostly attentive waitstaff. Overall kind of meh. Not a special occasion type of restaurant, not a date night place, better options for those at many places in Bklyn or NYC.
google avatar

Rachael M.

Yelp
The Jo Bowl was good with a lot of different flavors in each of the components. There's a fair amount of outdoor seating (no indoors) that make it a really nice place to sit and enjoy a meal or coffee.
google avatar

Lindsey O.

Yelp
Very cute spot and I'm looking forward to returning. I found Baba Cool on Yelp while searching for healthy options. I really don't feel there are enough healthy bowl/salad spots (no Sweetgreen, no Dig Inn) within walking distance from me and even Baba Cool is like a mile and a half walk, but definitely worth it. The service is friendly and the place was definitely busy! You can tell it's very popular. They have outdoor seating with heaters although the tables don't all feel 6ft away (some do but some felt like they were pushing it a little). I ordered the raw cacao latte which was tasty and the Jo Bowl where I loved the ingredients. They felt healthy and of a good quality, and the beans and plantains were the highlight for me. I would certainly order it again but the menu had a lot on it I wanted to try. I'll definitely update when I try more.

Amalia E.

Yelp
This place is such a vibe! Love the menu - a lil something for everyone and not trying too hard. And staff are super sweet.

Rachel N.

Yelp
it's in the name! Baba cool is cool. great food, great vibes, and great drinks. if you're looking for a good time, come to Baba cool!

Alice H.

Yelp
Good vibe, cute yard. Haven't been there first time not bad. Clean space in general. Really like the wooden mix design.
google avatar

Rynel L.

Yelp
Obsessed with this place. So underrated. Great service and easy to walk in to even for a Saturday brunch. Lattes were sooo amazing. Great level of sweetness. The bowls were awesome. Such great quality ingredients (the avocado was perfect and the brisket was just the right amount of fatty). And the lemon ricotta biscuit was more like a muffin but perfect moist texture almost creamy. Obsessed. Can't wait to go back and try the other larger location in Williamsburg too.

Colton M.

Yelp
Really friendly bar, great service, good Prosecco, and very clean bathrooms! Can't ask for more!

Ashley D.

Yelp
The best of the best of fort Greene! #iykyk get those fries!!!!********** also the staff are so lovely !!
