Curry Tarts and Strawberry Matcha Pastries Endear Nashvillians at Babychan | Eater Nashville

"An all-day cafe from husband-and-wife duo Brian Lea and Leina Horii, this French- and Japanese-influenced spot serves pastries, coffee, and small plates, with the name drawing from “chan,” a Japanese term of endearment. It functions as a hub for baked-goods pickup and hearty lunches; regulars include curry egg tarts, matcha basque cheesecake, and sesame rolls. Easy to-go options range from egg salad sandos on milk bread loaded with ikura salmon roe to shoestring fries covered in a mountaintop of bonito flakes and a spice-driven karaage, while bigger plates like beef curry rice and steak and eggs with yuzu hollandaise make lunch feel substantial. Design details weave in Horii’s Tokyo memories—hanging rattan lamps, intricate wooden paneling, and beverages poured into glasses collected by her grandmother in the 1960s and ’70s. For what to order, the pumpkin salad with kabocha marinated in miso and doused in yuzu honey vinaigrette is sublime as a shared starter or a light lunch; the beef curry rice layers braised beef cheek beneath an impossibly thick, salty gravy that’s especially divine in the cooler months; and the curry egg tart comes slathered in generously seasoned Japanese curry, chili crisp, and sharp asiago with a yolk centered like an edible bow. Tucked within an apartment and office complex, it’s a convenient stop for nearby residents and workers—go for an earlier or later lunch to avoid the longest lines." - Kayla Stewart

Google
So many things worth trying. My faves were the yuzu tart and cream filled donut (I don’t see too may mentions of the donut, but it has a delicious dairy pastry cream). The egg sando was good, but the bread is toasted (grilled?), which it usually isn’t in Japan. Salmon bowl was a bit underwhelming, especially for the price. Vegetable snacks were interesting: similar to Korean banchan, but fancier.

Google
I had such high hopes, especially after coming back from Japan. We went on a Saturday and the line went all the way outside, it was crazy. We decided to leave and went back on a Monday. We got the egg sandwich, chicken sandwich, fries and that was underwhelming. Now the French onion soup was the best I've ever had. We also got the strawberry sandwich and tasted like nothing. I wanted to love this place so bad but it's just ok for me.

Google
Such a great experience! We booked a table for lunch in advance — super easy and no wait when we arrived. In the photos: French onion soup, Cinnamon Toast, chicken tonkatsu sandwich, and strawberry cake. The French onion soup and Cinnamon Toast were absolute standouts - we’d come back just for those! Can’t wait to try more items on the menu next time. Our waitress was fantastic and made the whole visit even better.

Google
Delicious Japanese inspired food and pastries! We got the seasonal kabocha filled brioche doughnut (not too sweet, a lot of pumpkin cream filling, and a crunchy sweet topping), the breakfast sando (tamagoyaki egg, sausage paddy, and sauced buns), and curry puff pastry (a little curry, delicious chili oil, a runny egg yolk and crispiest layers). Everything was unique and high quality. Will definitely be back.

Google
Let's be completely honest and transparent, overhyped and pricey are the first things that come to me when I hear babychan. There's no doubt that the food here is different but delicious. Receiving an authentic Japanese food in the nashville area is a blessing. Loved the chicken sandwich, loved the slice of bread with an egg on top, the strawberry sandwich is okay if you never had it before. Their matcha was something I enjoyed but coffee and other things I wouldn't order it. All you see in the pictures was close to 80dls

Google
With the new reservation system, it is so efficient and easy for a visit. Service is great. Food is delicious as always. The atmosphere is amazing too. You can also take a stroll in the neuhoff district with their free parking validation. They also try to make it a little different but still sibling like with Kisser.

Google
As a huge kisser fan, I came in with high expectations for Babychan and it didn’t disappoint. Everything here is so fresh, especially love the pumpkin salad. The people working are super friendly and helpful, and the atmosphere is so cozy and perfect. The negative reviews complaining about the wait times are from opening, and I’ve never had to wait for a table or anything since returning recently. Also, I have read the reviews on “rude employees” and that’s the farthest away from the truth. I’ve been in about 8 times (at least) and every time I’ve received excellent service.

Google
Japanese-inspired espresso drinks and artful lattes meet a menu of flavorful brunch and lunch dishes that balance creativity and comfort. Whether you’re stopping in for a coffee or staying for a full meal, the expanded lunch menu—featuring touches from their Kisser (Bib Gourmand) roots—makes this café both stylish and satisfying. The chef couple continues to impress Nashville’s dining scene.

Yelp
Went in for a quick bite and came back an hour later it was so good! Babychan I love you! I came in while walking around Germantown on a warm December day and came out with a bag filled with sushi and a cinnamon roll. The line was to the door but went quickly for takeout. The seating inside was full but didn't seem overly so that the wait would have been too long. I was with my friend's pup and was so glad to see it was dog friendly with a jar or treats at the counter! I went with the cinnamon roll and salmon nigiri for the first go around. Each were delicious..especially the cinnamon roll! Although it wasn't like your classic cinnamon roll with very few notes of cinnamon the exterior crunch and buttery goodness paired with the rich icing was amazing. It was so big that I ate half and saved the rest for breakfast the next day. The nigiri was small but super fresh and I loved that their seaweed was already wrapped around it which helped keep each element crisp where it should and soft where it shouldn't be hard! I came back and got an iced coffee which wasn't the best iced coffee I've ever had but I didn't have any complaints! I got another nigiri for some additional omega 3s and loved it just as much as the first. My only added qualm would be to have a sauce sold separately to dip the nigiri into. That would have taken the experience to another level as I know they know their flavors.

Yelp
Babychan in North Nashville is a Japanese-inspired bakery that absolutely delivers and is a must-visit. Tip - parking is validated in the Neuhoff Garage, just bring it into the restaurant at the hostess stand when leaving. And, be prepared there may be a short wait for a table. They have indoor and outdoor seating (with heaters). I met up with a fellow Yelper and we split the pork belly breakfast sandwich and the chicken katsu sandwich (the latter is heavier), and splitting both was perfect for sharing. I adored the aesthetic of the restaurant, especially the plates, amber glass cups, and to the finest details of gorgeous wooden carved chopsticks. Each of us also got iced lattes, I went with the miso caramel and loved it. But the true star of the show was the flan affogato, it's absolutely unforgettable. Fabulous flavors all around and cannot wait to return soon!

Yelp
We've wanted to try Babychan for a good long while now, and finally scored a lunch res today. It's not a big place; Walk-in's are accommodated at a service counter, or they can wait (a very long time, apparently) for one of the few inside tables. The tables outside were plentiful, but they were used by folks who ordered inside and were waiting for their counter service orders to be ready. We were seated immediately upon arrival; friendly staff. The menu is short, but filled with Japanese classics. We over ordered because we wanted to try nearly everything. Chicken Karaage, egg salad sandwich on toasted thick cut milk bread, chicken katsu sando, and veggie curry, along with a lemonade and an orange "creamsicle" hot tea. Food took a while, which is a good sign; they cook everything to order. The egg salad sandwich was highly praised by my dining companion; I don't like egg salad, but took a bite and enjoyed it. The fried chicken was hot, well spiced, and served with a citrusy mayo based dipping sauce. It was a nicely sized portion as well. The chicken katsu sando was perfect in every way. Well fried chicken thigh, shredded lettuce, sauce on thick cut toasted milk bread. I could have eaten two! The veggie curry was epic. Huge portion of perfectly cooked rice, tender veggies, puffed rice to provide some texture, and picked diakon. The total for this feast? $60 plus tip. Super-highly recommended for authentic Japanese bakery/cafe classics, especially when you can score a res!

Yelp
Nashville, you've done it again. Stumbled into this little spot while exploring an up-and-coming pocket of Nashville that feels like industrial chic had a baby with cozy café vibes & honestly? A whole mood. I ordered the Strawberry Sandwich (yes, the internet-famous one) and listen... it delivered. Light, fluffy milk bread, fresh strawberries, whipped cream, a touch of mascarpone....it somehow manages to be delicate and filling. Like a cloud that's also a meal! 10/10 would snack again. If I wasn't so full I would have tried their other savory options! Literally want to eat through the entire menu. The Okinawan Latte was equally delicious with that Japanese brown sugar *chef's kiss* AND it wasn't overly sweet. Which I especially loved. Basically a hug in latte form. The staff was friendly and helpful with recs, the outdoor seating was open and airy, and the inside decor had that warm, cozy energy. Would I come back next time I'm in Nashville? Absolutely. Consider me a fan girl now. Thanks, BabyChan!

Yelp
It was ok we stood in line for 20min. Ordered the strawberry sandwich was the best we also got a mushroom tart

Yelp
Such a gem! BabyChan is one of those spots that instantly makes you smile the moment you walk in. The ambiance is super cute -- modern, cozy, and filled with little details that make it feel special. I got the chicken katsu sandwich on Japanese milk bread, and it was incredible -- crispy chicken, soft and fluffy bread, and so fresh you can taste the care in every bite. I paired it with the Hokkaido coffee, which was rich, smooth, not super sweet, and perfectly balanced -- definitely a must-try if you're a coffee lover. We also shared the cinnamon bread, and it was warm, sweet, and melt-in-your-mouth delicious that came with a great dipping sauce. Everything tasted so fresh and thoughtfully made, and the staff were friendly and attentive without being overbearing. Bonus points that the garage validates parking for two hours, which makes visiting downtown so much easier. Overall, BabyChan is a perfect brunch or coffee stop -- excellent food, great vibes, and such a pleasant experience from start to finish. Can't wait to go back!

Yelp
I was a little skeptical about having a Japanese inspired breakfast, but my friend kept raving about this place and how she'd been coming almost weekly since her move to Nashville. So for our first breakfast outing she brought me here and I have to say, this is on my "when I'm in Nashville" spots I will be stopping at. We shared everything we ordered so that I could try it all. Highly recommend everything we got. The breakfast sandwich and the Chicken Katsu sandwich were so savory and satisfying. The chili Mayo sauce that comes with it was divine! I couldn't get enough of it so much so I ordered more. The strawberry sando looks like a work of art and tastes heavenly. Service was amicable and the place is cute. Be mindful of their closed days and make sure to check out their cool looking bathroom.

Yelp
Absolutely in love with this new addition to Germantown! We only tried the bakery so far, we do want to dine in soon! We came in on a Saturday morning around 10am. There was a line, but it did move fairly fast. At a quality place as Babychan of course there will be a line and it's WELL WORTH IT! I would recommend skipping the drinks, I didn't think it was worth the extra wait. Their food and pastries are definitely their strong suit. I think due to being new and highly sought out, the drinks felt rushed and weren't as high of quality. We ordered a tea drink and a coffee and we both felt the same way honestly. Cute interior with plenty of outdoor seating- will say it can get quite crammed inside with a long walk in line.

Yelp
Loved the name of this restaurant! Newly opened for a couple months now and sister restaurant of Kisser. This concept is filled with delicious savory and sweet pastries. Hot foods and coffee. I opted for the Chicken Karaage (crispy, juicy and flavorful with the chilli oil was a nice touch), Egg Salad Sando (YUMMY milk bread and the egg salad itself was seasoned nicely) and the beef curry rice (so good on a cold day and the beef was tender). Also got the japanese cheesecake for dessert and had a nice hint of lemon. You can still order food and get to go even without reservations. If you want to dine-inside, then reservations are highly recommended. There is seating outdoors as well. Coffee was too milky for me.

Yelp
I'm not sure if I just expected more but I was very underwhelmed. I've been wanting to try Babychan for awhile and finally got around to it. There's a parking garage nearby. You can park and walk over. The patio seating is plentiful. When I got there, only coffee and bakery goods were available which was slighting annoying as I had to come back and stand in line again to get real food. Service was great and she explained the different drinks to me. My latte was excellent. I got a few bakery items including the black sesame Swiss roll (not a fan), the soufflé cheesecake (loved), and the sausage roll (too much bread but the sausage was great!) I sat outside and drank my coffee for the 15 min before lunch started. I went back in and ordered the strawberry sando, cinnamon toast, and chicken katsu. In my opinion, the strawberry sando is something that's more for optics than taste. It's strawberries and whipped cream on thick bread but the strawberries were plump and the whipped cream was fresh and only slightly sweet. The cinnamon toast could have used a little more sugar but my son seemed to like it. I was not a fan of the chicken katsu. The flavor wasn't bad but it was undercooked. I may give it another chance if I'm over in the area but I won't go out of my way to visit again.

Yelp
Really liked this spot. Visiting my brother in Nashville and he brought me here. Japanese bakery and cafe in Neuhoff District. We got a bunch of stuff and shared. Everything was great , my favs were the karage chicken and the katsu chicken sando. Our entire group loved it. The staff was friendly and very helpful. They answered all of our questions and made some great suggestions. Definitely wanna check it again b4 my trip back to Florida.

Yelp
There may be a wait, but I can assure you the food at the end of the wait will be worth it! The ingredients they use at Babychan are so high quality, and you can taste the care that goes into each item. I don't even like eggs, but the breakfast sandwich was so delicious and tasted just like a dumpling, I actually loved it. The chicken katsu sandwich and strawberry sando are also not to be missed! There is parking in the garage next door, free for the first hour then $6 per hour. There's plenty of space to sit at small tables outside if you want to get something from the bakery without sitting inside for table service!

Yelp
Flavor: delicious high quality pastries & coffee. Extreme coffee morning so tried all three of their specialty coffees - hojicha, miso caramel (hot) and Okinawan - all great and quality espresso. Topped off with a cookie that was sweet, flavorful, and soft with crunchy edges. Service: very friendly, expedient, thorough Other notes: next to many other restaurants and very walkable areas. Location & Parking: large parking garage, first hour free. Price: average for high quality Is it what's up? Completely, would go again / everyday if I could

Yelp
Wish I could give more than 5 stars! This bakery and cafe is 100% worth the wait. We went in with the notion of trying everything on the menu and here's what we tried: strawberry matcha, espresso, strawberry sando, black sesame swiss roll, breakfast sandwich, steak and egg, matcha strawberry tart, japanese soufflé cheesecake, and curry pan. Everything tasted fantastic. Service was great. Really cool vintage Japanese interior design aesthetic. Will be back again as soon as physically possible.

Yelp
Made a reservation in advance but brought our dog last minute and realized we could not sit inside (our bad!). Plenty of outdoor space which is great when the weather is nice. We were still able to order from the dine in menu at the counter and they brought the food out to us! Tried the seasonal fall latte and it was delicious!
google avatar

Yelp
The food was decent but it's a bit pricey ybh. The place was very crowded so I would get a res if you're heading there over the weekend

Yelp
Such a great spot! It definitely feels authentic, and I love how small the inside is. I got the chicken katsu sandwich for lunch which was incredible. My favorite pastry was the sesame roll- don't shy away!

Yelp
This place is very nice. It's clean and well executed. We enjoyed our meal far more than expected! The egg salad was delicious! It's worth making a reservation and being on time led to a hassle-free meal... we walked right past the line and were seated immediately. We are looking forward to returning, soon.

Yelp
Found this place while visiting Nashville over the holidays. Seemed like a great brunch spot. I went with my s/o and friends. We were delighted to be seated without making a reservation. The vibes felt like a cute little mashup of Japanese culture and American. I had a matcha latte and egg salad sandwich since I'm always on the hunt for a Japanese style egg sandwich. It did not disappoint. Excellent flavor. Perfectly fluffy bread and delicious egg filling. 12/10! Would highly recommend and if they're busy take some pastries to go!
google avatar

Robert R.

Yelp
Amazing service from start to finish. Expertly crafted pastries and food items. Well made coffees and drinks. This was a very memorable breakfast and would definitely be back. I ordered the curry pastry with an egg on top, a pumpkin spiced latte, and the cinnamon toast. All winners! Would highly recommend this place if youre in the area.
google avatar

Yelp
cannot wait to be back here because the food was amazing! I came here, mid-afternoon on a Saturday with a few friends and we were seated after about 20 mins or so. The staff was very attentive and provided great food recommendations. I had the breakfast sandwich which was so delicious! the pork gyoza patty, egg, and chili mayo sauce just combined so well to make a very delicious sandwich. my friends had the chicken katsu sandwich and the shrimp salad sandwich. both were excellent as well - the shrimp sandwich was light and refreshing while the katsu sandwich was crispy with a touch of sweetness. would recommend any of these. I didn't get a chance to try their bakery items this time around, but I plan on going back sometime soon to try them because everything looked so good!

Yelp
Babychan is such a beautiful addition to Germantown, from the talented team behind Kisser. This Japanese-inspired café and bakery pairs warm, minimalist aesthetics with thoughtful flavors. Came here for soft opening and will definitely have to make it back to try all the sold out bakery items! I ordered the Okinawan latte, and it was incredible: smooth, slightly spiced (think chai), and not overly sweet. The breakfast sandwich was the real standout: pork gyoza sausage, tamagoyaki egg, white American cheese, and a flavorful mayo. So yummy I also tried the curry egg tart--it was good and creative, but probably not something I'd get again. The staff was friendly and welcoming, and even though it's a new spot, the vibe felt calm and intentional. Heads up: they're still new and popular, so you may wait a bit, but the line moved quickly and it was worth every minute.
google avatar

Kasturi S.

Yelp
Great addition to the Nashville Japanese food scene. The onigiri options can be extended, but the food quality was top notch. The match latte was also on point. The dine-in vibe is a cramped and would not give a casual, cozy feeling of a cafe but thats because it's so crowded all the time. Would love to make it my usual place to go.
google avatar

Yelp
Babychan is definitely worth the hype. In a town full of cookie cutter restaurants popping up every day, Babychan breaks the cycle with its local-first feel. If you're looking to beat the crowd, try mid-morning around 11am. There's ample seating and the interior is gorgeous. Unlike many new establishments in Nashville, Babychan offers a warm, inviting and modern aesthetic that's great for remote work or just a quick breakfast. Their food is full of flavor and the coffee is delicious. It's a little on the pricier side but that's to be expected with it coming from the folks at Kisser. They offer nothing short of high-quality and I'm always happy to pay. Their lattes are perfect for someone who enjoys coffee rather than someone who enjoys sweet drinks so keep that in mind. I'm of the former and had the okinawan. It was subtly sweet and smooth - the perfect latte in my opinion. As for eats, I recommend the green tea tiramisu and a kurabuta sausage bun. Only thing that would elevate the bun is if I were warmed. If you're getting it to go, pop it in the microwave for a few seconds. Overall, this is a wonderful addition to the Germantown neighborhood and a break from the monotony of new cafes in Nashville. I'll be back!
google avatar

Maya A.

Yelp
Heard about this new place and the Japanese themed pastries inspired me. So for my first visit I did a quick pop in to sample some of their delicious pastries. I ordered the Japanese cheesecake, and some of the other items on the menu to sample with a friend. Can I say every single pastry was so good in its own way but the cheesecake, that was so memorable! So much so when my bestie flew in to visit that was the first place I said we should try. She got a yummy matcha and I a nice cappuccino with the infamous cheesecake as well as their strawberry and cream sandwiches. Everything was equally delicious the second time around. The place has great ambiance and the staff is so kind and helpful! Can't wait to be back and sample more on their menu! If you're looking for a cute coffee shop with amazing pastries that will transport you to Japan while in Nashville, this is your sign to go!
google avatar

Amanda M.

Yelp
Be prepared for a bit of a wait but it's worth it and the line moves fast. The Onigiri is my favorite as it's hard to find in Nashville. The pastries were all a hit, I also loved the Vegetable Curry Pan. The lattes were delicious and not too sugary and overly sweet, which I prefer. They have tons of seating inside and outside. I'm so happy to have this place in the Germantown neighborhood. They are closed two days a week and have earlier hours so be sure to check before visiting.

Yelp
A solid 4.5 rating for this local Japanese-inspired bakery. We are a big fan of Kisser & went on their very 1st soft opening day a couple years ago, & we finally got around to trying Babychan. Parking - we are always able to find free street parking in the surrounding neighborhoods when we visit this area, but you do have to look. We arrived on Friday at 9:04 AM & the line was already pretty long. Doors officially opened at 9:06 & we got inside probably just after 9:30. Line moves fast! We ordered the strawberry matcha & miso caramel latte. Matcha wasn't very strong & the strawberry flavor was quite soft, but very tasty. Not bad if you like it less sweet. For the miso caramel latte, my wife & I both agreed we didn't get any miso vibes, just caramel latte. For food, we tried the curry egg tart, Brie & mushroom tart, strawberry Sando, breakfast sandwich, egg salad Sando, chicken curry Sando, kurobuta sausage bun, breakfast sandwich, vegetable curry pan, salmon onigiri, cinnamon cube. Favorites were the egg curry tart & strawberry sando. The bread wasn't dry for us as mentioned in other reviews. It was really good & the cream was delicious. Least favorite was the Brie & mushroom tart - we didn't think the flavors complemented each other that well, but maybe it just wasn't for us lol. Interior ambiance is similar to kisser, had plenty of space to dine in even with the crowds. I do wish there was an option to warm up the pastries for dining in, but i can see how that's not plausible atm given the current hype & insane lines lol. Overall, we really enjoyed it & will be back maybe when the hype dies down. This would be a a much welcomed addition to any city let alone a less diverse city such as Nashville. Excited to see what they do in the future!

Yelp
There are really only a few places that deserve a five star rating without even close to being a hesitation and Babychan is one of those spots in my opinion. I mean my goodness this is an amazzing place if you appreciate real and trendy Japanese food. They do it all and their bakery is exceptional. I'm super excited to try more things, I got there and wanted to try the entire menu but had to contain myself. Easily going to drop a lot of money in here but even from my first experience, well worth it. Super nice area to have this location too. 10/10 awesome place

Yelp
This was our first time to Babychan since it opened about three weeks ago. We were so excited to try it, but we were all pretty underwhelmed by the experience. We waited about 10 minutes, which wasn't bad at all. Inside was very clean and minimalistic. We ordered the strawberry fruit sando, cinnamon milk bun and black sesame roll. All of the bread seemed dry or old so it was all pretty lackluster. The drinks were pretty good. This place was definitely hyped up and was disappointing especially if you've been to bakeries with Japanese or Korean pastries.

Yelp
Literally the most amazing meal we have ever had, I couldn't recommend this place enough!

Yelp
I was really impressed with the options and the pricing. It's easy for bakery items to be expensive but I felt everything was reasonable. I love that there are bakery items and options for lunch. Literally everything here is good. It's a little smaller inside but lots of outside seating and really fast to go.

Yelp
Stopped by Babychan for the first time yesterday for a late lunch. I went with a friend who had been before, but this was my first visit. I've tried their sister restaurant, Kisser, and was completely blown away, so Babychan has been on my list ever since I caught word of this new concept. We opted to dine in and were seated immediately by the lovely host. Our server quickly brought waters and checked in with us. Whether you dine in or get takeout, I think you'll have a great experience. The space is small but thoughtfully designed, with a cute outdoor seating area and plenty of room to wait comfortably for to-go orders. Now onto the food. It was excellent across the board. The miso caramel latte was delicious and unique, with such a memorable flavor combination (plus, the mug its served in is gorgeous). We started with the chicken karaage, which came with sesame mayo, and at the bottom, a delicious chili crisp that I need a jar of. The cucumbers were the perfect refreshing contrast to the crispy and greasy (in a good way) chicken. For mains, I ordered the egg salad sando, and it was easily the best I've ever had. There's something special about a simple, classic dish executed with real care. Their milk bread is out of this world and made the sandwich heavenly. My friend ordered the steak and egg bowl, which she loved. I stole a bite of the steak (which was cooked perfectly), and the yuzu hollandaise was delicious. I'll definitely be back soon because I've only scratched the surface of this fabulous menu.

Beautiful space in the neuhoff building/area. This is a Japanese inspired bakery which also serves food. We went for brunch and ordered a starter and two mains and felt that was enough for the three of us. Our waiter was friendly and attentive. Parking is validated!

Yelp
Japanese-inspired bakery and cafe from the team that brought us Kisser, Babychan might be one of the most hyped new eatery openings of the year. I'm a massive fan of Kisser - transparently, it's one of my top 5 restaurants in Nashville - and have been overjoyed about this opening. The TLDR: excellent service, drinks, onigiri, and some fun pastries and sweets but a VERY long line/wait to order and a few flavor combos that I think still need some tweaking. Babychan is part of the new Neuhoff district development, is the first eatery I've come to here. I was delighted to find free parking for 1 hour in the attached parking garage ($6 for hour 2, etc.). I've come to Babychan twice thus far and have yet to figure out how to come without a long wait. The first time was on a Sunday, two minutes before opening there was a line so long it was almost in the parking garage. It took me an hour and 15 to get through, but at least I came prepared with some stuff to do while waiting in line. The second time I came 40 minutes before opening and the line was still long, wrapped around the building, but I got in within 10 minutes of opening (so 30 min wait). Staff moves quickly once they are opening and the line moves as quickly as could be reasonable, but just beware there is massive demand and excitement for this spot right now (understandably, Nashville doesn't have anything quite like this), and it's good to go with a healthy dose of patience and willingness to pay for parking if your wait exceeds the free hour. Beautiful ambiance inside - very reminiscent of Kisser but significantly larger and also with some outdoor seating. The natural light in this space is incredibly beautiful and well thought through. I've tried a lot of the menu on these two visits, opting to take a lot of treats to go and enjoy them throughout the day slowly. The standout items here are actually the cafe drinks. The hojicha latte is outstanding, not overly sweet, kind of grassy, nutty, just rich and flavorful without being over the top. I am very interested in trying the Hokkaido and Okinawan as well for more classic milk tea flavors. For bites, the hands down favorite is the onigiri. It's much simpler and more classic than the onigiri at Kisser: red miso cured salmon, seasoned rice, teriyaki. It's extremely light and perfectly snackable. I craved another as soon as I finished one. I also thought the pastry quality in general was very good, very flaky without feeling dry, great lamination. The vegetable curry pan was probably my favorite of the pastries and is absolutely something I'd go back for - great crust, flavorful without overdoing it, not claggy. Some things I thought were pretty good: the black sesame Swiss roll, hojicha tiramisu, the curry egg tart and the kurobuta sausage bun. The Swiss roll and the tiramisu were great ideas, but the amount of cream in both were overwhelmed the interesting flavors of black sesame and hojicha. The curry egg tart is a little pricy and while the drippy egg is PERFECT, the curry was a bit salty for my palate. The kurobuta sausage bun was probably my favorite of the "good not great" pastries because the sausage itself was so flavorful, but the roll part felt a little dry. Items I wasn't wild about that I think need further tweaking: the brie & mushroom tart and the milk bread cube. The mushrooms are marinated in soy and just didn't go, flavor-wise with the brie. The milk bread cube was pretty dry, and while the bread had nice flavor from the furikake around it, the cream cheese inside was really dry too. Overall, I would come back here again (probably this weekend, let's be honest, can't stay away from that onigiri) and it's a current favorite for bakeries for me right now. Still, it's good to go in managing expectations appropriately.

Yelp
I've been so excited for more Japanese cuisine in Nashville and was able to come here shortly after they opened. The line was very long (to be expected) but with only one register it made the going slow. Staff were friendly and working very hard but it seemed like there was a flow of service issue. The food was good but not worth the hour plus wait in my opinion.

Yelp
My spouse and I went the day they opened. We arrived 20 minutes before they opened, as this is when I would go to their sister restaurant Kisser. The aesthetic of the restaurant is modern, clean and beautiful. The staff were helpful and especially knowledgeable for a new restaurant opening. We were in and out in 15 minutes after they opened. We got two coffee drinks, the Hokaido and miso carmel. Both were smooth and delicious. Also got the strawberry iced matcha which was bright and colorful. For food, we ordered the breakfast sandwich, strawberry cream sandwich, curry tart, sausage roll, milk bread cube and curry puff. Our favorites were the breakfast sandwich and strawberry cream sandwich, but we liked them all. Overall a great addition to Nashville's food scene, offering unique pastries and drinks that other restaurants here don't offer.

Yelp
My chicken katsu sandwich was INSANE. The meat was perfectly juicy and the slaw was a perfect balance. To drink I had the miso caramel latte which is great jf you prefer less sweet coffee.

Yelp
Was very excited for a Japanese bakery to open up in the area. I have been twice and some of their items are definitely worth the hype. I will be back for my favorites and to try out the rest of the menu offerings. Whatever the cinnamon bread item was though is what ultimately took off a whole star. It was extremely dry and bland. Here are my rankings: Matcha cheesecake ***** Egg Sando **** Strawberry Sando **** Cinnamon bread * Strawberry Matcha *** (got it iced) Hojicha ***** (got it hot)

Yelp
Yummalinaaaaa! So happy this place opened- as much as I love kisser, I HATED the wait. Babychan's reserve-ability makes this a star in my books. We got assorted pastries, onigiri, salmon bowl, bonito fries, and karaage. The salmon bowl was all of our favorites, but I'm also a hoe for ikura. To find good ikura in this landlocked yeehaw town is so frickin hard. I can find cocaine on Broadway easier than I can find good ikura in this city. I'm not endorsing drugs nor do I do them, I'm simply illuminating the difficulty of finding quality niche Japanese ingredients in this southern state while highlighting the drug epidemic of America. The hojicha latte is so good- it's like if matcha was toastier and a little caramelly. My family friends of over fifteen years are Japanese and approved of this experience, so you know it's legit. I'm Chinese, and if you can get two different types of Asians to come together and agree the food and experience is good and the only complaint is about parking, then you know that the place is a must.

Yelp
I love this place! The staff is so nice and they work fast on these busy days. Their matcha latte was delicious. Although they only have whole milk and oat milk. I wish they had the option of almond milk. Their curry sandwich was so flavorful and delicious on the soft bread. And their sesame roll was my favorite! I love Japanese bakeries and I'm so glad we finally got one. I'm excited for it and I'll definitely be a regular.

Yelp
This was a highly anticipated breakfast for me, as I love Kisser. We got there early to beat the lines--thankfully there were no lines at 9 am. Infact we stuck around until 11:30 and still no lines (this was a Thursday ). We tried a few pastries and the. When the brunch menu was open (around 10) we ordered a few items. The Swiss roll and aesthetically beautiful strawberry sandwich are lovely but I was overwhelmed by the cream. I also got the matcha fruit tart pastry and a chocolate chip cookie and both just were not my cup of tea. The actual drinks were so good : strawberry matcha and Hokkaido. Also the egg salad sandwich was dreamy. Seating is both indoors and outside. The location is so nice (love Neuhoff!). The fish we had was not my favorite to be honest, it tasted and smelled too fishy. I can understand how most preferences can be different but Kisser is still on top for me by comparison!

Yelp
Baby chan was nicely decorated and had a lively vibe in the dining area. Our server was very sweet and friendly. The food, however, was very underwhelming. The egg sando is probably the only thing I would get again--the texture of the soft filling and crunchy bread was great. There's not too much flavor which was fine for me. The iced matcha latte was VERY grainy, a pass for sure. The yuzu lemonade was quite good, pretty simple. The fries were flavorful, but not overwhelming--so correction, I'd also consider getting this if I were to come back. There was a spicy mayo drizzle that wasn't in the description and my sister wasn't a huge fan of that, but she did enjoy the fries without it! We got the sesame chocolate cookie and the flavor profile was lovely, however I wish it was warmed up and not so stiff/stale. Steak and egg was solid as well, not much to say about it. The chicken katsu sando just had a weird flavor profile with the bbq sauce and sweet milk bread. The chicken itself was very tender and juicy. However, I couldn't really finish anything and left hungry still.

Yelp
My first review was when it first opened and on a Saturday. I went again recently on a Sunday morning for the bakery and was in and out within 3 minutes.

Yelp
Try a bunch of foods and got a coffee. The food was amazing and the strawberry sandwich was less real full than expected, but still delicious and refreshing. The burger was so good and the nuggets were just as good. The oniguri was delicious and the only downside was that my coffee was super bitter

Yelp
solid experience at the cafe here, the coffees were good, they have seasonal offerings, we also tried a few of the pastry offerings which were decent - favorites were the curry ones. the breakfast sandwich was filling, the buns weren't a great texture though as they just sit and are not made to order

Yelp
This will probably be considered a hot take - but I think that Babychan is not only overhyped, but also a very confusing establishment that isn't organized properly. I was able to stop in during one of the few times there wasn't a 60-90 minute wait (only Monell's is worth that kind of wait) and ordered pastries and an iced latte at the counter. I had been hoping to try some of the other items that have been featured on social media, only to find that they weren't listed on the menu. I later found out by an employee that visited the insanely long line after I got my items that there should be TWO lines to get in - one for coffee and pastries and another for the actual dine-in portion of the restaurant. Apparently there is a host stand inside - there was no one standing there the entire time I was inside - that will have someone seat you at a table. I learned that you must be seated at a table in order to get their food - including the strawberry dessert everyone raves about. It's confusing as hell though, because I watched people who ordered pastries in the supposed to-go line seat themselves at tables to enjoy their pastries. If they're going to do actual dine-in service, it would behoove them to have signage saying so, and employees perpetuating that message - and not allowed to-go diners to sit at inside tables. The pasties I got were good, but I would never wait more than 5 mins in line to buy them.

Yelp
New to Nashville and wanted to explore coffee shops. Found this hidden gem! The food and service was incredible. Super tasty and unique. Highly recommend going if you've never been. This will become a regular spot for me for sure!

Yelp
Coffee is great. Not too sweet. Crunchy salad is amazing! The line going out the door was quickly serviced.
