"If beer was an important part of your college experience, you’ll respect that the person in charge here bought the brewery because Baderbrau was his favorite beer in school. It’s a Czech-style pilsner, and we appreciate his dedication to keeping the recipe alive. The picnic-table-filled space is large and feels like a warehouse, with a giant graffiti-style mural on the wall to give it some personality. They have a short menu featuring mainly sandwiches, bar snacks like wings, and a mac and cheese waffle at least one person needs to order. This is a great brew pub for a group, a celebration, or anyone who used to play beer pong." - Adrian Kane

We went for the trivia night on Tuesday and it was a lot of fun! Before the trivia we warmed up playing board games that are present in the bar. That is a great idea! People working here are super cool and friendly. The beer selection is varied and everyone will find a beer they like. The food is very simple and tasty, I recommend the grill cheese, a must try.

The 10-flight of beers was a great way to taste everything for a good price. The pretzel bites were tasty. Staff are knowledgeable and professional. The space is amazing! I wish I had spent more time here! Definitely returning the next time I'm in Chicago.

Finally made it here! The manager is super friendly and the beers are great! I haven't tried their food yet, but the beer is worth the trip even though it a bit out of the way in a kind of odd location. There are a couple other small brewery around South Loop area, but this one is the best one!

Go to place while in the neighborhood. Awesome art, good beer and decent food. Good people work here, and they are attentive to your needs. None of the food pictures seemed to match what was available (at least the hamburger picture). I had a flatbread, which was flat on flavor. Quality ingredients, but lacking in taste. The beer on the other hand, solid showing. The Red Velvet is a solid bock, and the Imperial Pilsner was a deliciously robust pilsner.

Google
A very nice brewpub in an empty neighborhood. This place has just 11 beers, but they are all very high quality and made on site. Even their pilsner has a lot of flavor due to rich bohemian hops. The neighborhood and outside of the building doesn't look like much, but the decor inside is modern, cool, and appropriate for a brewpub.

Google
Family friendly brewery with an upstairs bar and events area for rent. They have board games galore, picnic style shared tables, and play TV or movies on the projector to entertain kids. Their beer & food are on point!! I would come back just for their Reuben ($14) comes with delicious sauce, pickle spear and kettle chips. Their macaroni & cheese waffle is also delicious, but a little dry. Highly recommend! Plenty of free street parking available.

Google
I tried all 10 beers on tap when I visited and was very impressed. They had excellent sours. The building itself is very nice and has a great atmosphere. We ordered the Mac and cheese waffle and the chicken Parmesan flatbread. Both were tasty, but the beer was better than the food. Definitely a place we’d like to go to again.

Nice brewery with good beer selection and great pretzel bites! Indoor bike parking is a plus!

Yelp
How has Moody Tongue fallen under my radar for so long?? My husband brought me here tonight for my birthday after trying it a few weeks ago for a work dinner and to say "I am impressed" is an understatement. Having a very small infant at home, we opted for the earliest reservation of 4:30pm when they open. We were informed once seated however that the kitchen doesn't open until 5. As hungry as I was and ready to get started, I will say we just used the extra time to plan our attack on the menu...but just in case anyone else is trying to get in early to eat, there you go. The ambience is how I would describe as...Moody? Low lighting and a cool fireplace make it a cozy vibe. We were seated in the bar area at a high top and our server greeted us with a birthday drink on the house. I know Moody Tongue is a brewery and has loads of cool drinks to sample, but I was here for the food! We started off with the Guajillo Braised Short Ribs (which were only $22?!) These were amazing! Fall apart, juicy and so flavorful! The chimichuri mashed potatoes were a perfect pairing of this dish. We also had the Mushroom & Ricotta Tortellini which was so much better than I expected! This is the most elevated pasta dish I ever had. Parmesan, Dash, Spigarello...I don't know what 2 out of 3 of those ingredients are but they are amazing! To round off the starters we also had the Seared Huson Valley Foie Gras. This was a surprise! So many elements on the plate that combined make the perfect sweet/savory bite. I could have licked the plate clean (I actually did...a little bit...no one saw I swear). For entrees, we had the Hokkaido Sea Scallops with Creamy Lobster Orzo..Holy S*IT - please get these. The orzo had nice chunks of lobster and the peas added a perfect freshness to the dish. I could eat that every single day of my life. We also got the Prime New York Strip that came with a potato au gratin and seasonal veggies. They didn't even ask how we wanted the steak cooked, it comes out a perfect med rare which I wouldn't accept any other way. The Black Truffle Demi glaze was so savory and yet still pretty light. For dessert we had the apple crumble and it was not what I was expecting! This is fancyyyy apple crumble. The cider sorbet was so fresh and I'm shocked that I haven't had anything similar before. The bite was perfect. If you think I enjoyed my dinner at Moody Tongue, you just might be right. If I could use a once in a lifetime Yelp golden ticket to give this dinner 10 stars I would! Not only because EVERYTHING was delicious but the value cannot be beat!! You're telling me this is a two Michelin star restaurant?! Before tip we paid $180 and that's for 3 starters, 2 amazing entrees and a dessert. Moody Tongue is my everything now. I cannot wait to go back and try even more in the future.

Yelp
out of the way so make sure to make time to get here... it was as snowy, blistery valentine's day evening. we were 20 mins late for our reservation but calls were made and our timing was shared and accepted. when you enter, it feels like you're in a hotel or a theatre...large foyer with a coat check and then stairs to the dining area. the foyer area set the vibe, which wasn't the best vibe. 2 friendly but stiff (so in other words, ingenuine) ladies greeted us and took our coats. they were definitely talking $hit before we walked in not necessarily about us but were hating life... anyhow, the vibe changed as we were greeted by our server upstairs. not a fan of our seats as we were banished to a corner table when there was definitely space but oh well. my whiskey highball cocktail was excellent - and probably the best part of my evening :) husband ordered a beer flight and i sampled all 3 and neither of us were blown away. the buratta and beet app was incredible - the jam being the best part! my husband loved the foie gras and especially enjoyed the pork belly. we were let down by the greens (i had without anchovies) and the scallops. the greens were super over-dressed and the scallops were super salty. the banana (4 ways) dessert thankfully saved the day...kinda. between each of the courses, random servers/bussers were obviously shoving us out the door. at one point i had to ask one to put down my plate which i was clearly still eating. we were definitely not the last diners (at least 5-7 tables were still seated plus the main dining area on the other side was full) so either they wanted to cut staff to send them home or they hated us. i'm gonna go with both... and yes the 2 stiff ladies at the coat check capped it off with more bad vibes. not the best food or "experience" (which is what they call it when you make a "reservation") to bring us back or recommend to anyone.

Yelp
Have been back a few times now besides remembering to take pictures, ran a similar playbook with perfect results. Ordered a bunch of the starters and only one entree for the table to share. Best way to get a great taste of everything without over-ordering entrees or doing the pricier tasting menu. I still stand by the beer being potentially hit and miss. Most are very good and cool combinations of adjuncts, but some of the combinations are a bit esoteric and may not "work". Really like the stout series too in the winter. I won't review every dish, but overall I would say they all hit the mark. The combinations of flavors are really good and while every high end restaurant is going to serve heavier, richer food, I felt like Moody Tongue does a good job balancing out otherwise heavy meals with some lighter dishes too. The one I would call out from the most recent visit was the steak and the sauce on top of it was great. But the highlight of our most recent couple visits: dessert. The 20-layer chocolate cake is incredible. Get a slice and share it amongst the table or bring the majority of it home. It's heavy but oh so worth the price. It'll keep you fed for days. But the desserts, for me as a cookie fanatic, got even better with the cookie sampler. Pair that with the various stout adjuncts and you've got a great cookie taster for dessert. No way I was sharing those cookies

Yelp
Came here for restaurant week & it was def worth it. I find many restaurant week "deals" to not really be a deal, but the lineup here was def a deal! The beet and barramundi dishes were fantastic. I can't remember the name of the dessert we got (some blood orange tart) but that was also divine. Everything from the textures, flavors, temperature, and presentation were spot on. I also felt appropriately full.

Yelp
Holy moley-how have we lived in south loop for 5 years and just now dined here?! My husband and I had a date night yesterday at Moody Tongue. I am so glad we ended up here! We sat at the bar and ordered A La carte. We were able to get a reservation for the bar the same day. I think we will come back again to try their dinner services. I am not usually a beer person, but their beers were great!! You can order a flight for less than $13! I ordered the mosaic saison, juiced lychee IPA, and hazy orange pineapple. And then later in the night me and my husband shared a nitro caramelized chocolate churro porter. For the meal we ordered the beet and burrata to start. And the I ordered the Prime NY strip, it was booked to perfection and the sides were spectacular. The potatoes au gratin were so delish. Very big portion served! My husband ordered the crescent duck breast. He loved it, it was in the small side or portions. But so delicious as well. We can't wait to go back. The vibe inside was very chill and welcoming.

Yelp
This is a review for their TASTING menu only. The food and service here was very good with only a few minor things that could be shaped up (but I'm only being picky because I believe they hold themselves up to the highest standard). Everything was very flavorful with food inspired from chefs travels and experience. I liked the asian influence especially with the miso scallop, probably favorite dish of the night. There was a dumpling that had all the right asian flavors but the dumpling skin was way thick. The meat courses were good but I wish the portions were a little bit bigger just given how biggg the plates were and how little food was on the plate. I don't mind having some vegetable dust next to my wagyu but it doesn't have to be half the plate. There was a bread course which was absolutely ooey gooey delicious with a butter that was super flavorful. Probably my second favorite. Overall really enjoyed the entire meal and service. My only gripe is that I wish there were more standout dishes in my brain especially for the price. But maybe that's just me wanting more pizazz? There was a dessert dish that reminded me of the popping dots we ate as kids so that one was a bit nostalgic!

Yelp
What a fantastic meal, space, and experience! Wow... I'm blown away by this one. Our server (Brian? I was a few drinks deep but I think this is right.) was phenomenal at his job! He personally curated the experience based on what we ordered, bringing out like items at the same time and pairing our drinks with our meal. Truly top notch service, other top spots need to take notes! Also of note, this was a birthday dinner and we were given some complimentary drinks at the start, a very welcom touch. We started with some cocktails, and my one comment about them is they are STRONG. This was the one negative, and for me it's not usually a negative. The flavors were just blown away by the alcohol, likely just an over pour. The beers though... obviously brewing is in the name for a reason! I loved my IPA and my follow up beers, perfect compliments for my dinner. We ordered a few oysters and our server warned us we were teasing ourselves... he was right. They were the best oysters I've ever had, plated beautifully, and accompanied by a delightful garlic sauce and a hot sauce. We ordered more right away! The fennel salad was a delight, I saw the description and had to have it. I love the Japanese influence this spot has and this dish is a perfect example of just that. Tortellini was another delicious bite, and more filling than it looks. Let's talk wagu. Yes, REAL A-5 wagu! Not that fake stuff 90% of restaurants are giving you. Magical in its purity, it's just the best beef you can get. Pairing it, in this case, with broccoli and squid ink to play up the Japanese aspect again, made for a masterfully plated and delectable dish. The short rib might be my favorite bite of the night. It's fall apart tender and all the extras really make the dish sing. I'd order 2 of these next time! Sea scallops were also delicious if just a bit less visually exciting. Less of a presentation with this one but great flavors all around. We finished with two over the top desserts, the chocolate cake and a seasonal apple dessert with miso butter! Pairing this with their coffee cake imperial stout was a killler end to the night. I left fully satisfied and slightly inebriated. The building has a lovely dark wood and iron interior that just oozes class, I could hang out here all day. When I come back for the whole fish I just might. Overall I can't recommend this place enough! Amazing experience, I'll definitely be back.

Yelp
My wife and I went to Moody Tongue for Restaurant Week and considering the reputation and hype surrounding this restaurant the entire meal was a bit of a disappointment. For a Michelin starred restaurant, we should have been blown away with the dishes on the menu but what was served was pedestrian at best and underwhelming at worst. My wife wondered how in the world did this restaurant deserve a Michelin star and quite frankly, I have to agree with her. My main course was the Stuffed Chicken. Unfortunately, I could not tell you what the chicken was stuffed with because there was nothing stuffed inside! My wife's main, the Squash Delicata was okay, nothing to rave about. The Burrata and Beets appetizer was very good and the Endive salad was fine. The desserts were nothing special for the first time in a long while, I could say they were just "Meh." The Cerise & Orange Blossom Beers were very good and our waitress was very attentive. There was a good vibe in the room and if we every go back, it would be to try the the starters and some of the entrees on the regular menu. I know that Moody Tongue is famed for its Chef's tasting menu but in all seriousness, having to sit through a 15 course meal sounds more like an ordeal than a gastronomic adventure.

Yelp
Came here for restaurant week 2025, also went in 2024 and I loved both experiences! The food delicious, the drinks were great (I did try their rice beer and it was great, very light) and their aviation was amazing. The Oysters were the best I ever had, and I'm not an oyster person. We sat at the bar and our bartender was amazing. I suck at making decisions and I love to ask recommendations and he was right on it! I would come back even not for restaurant week! Also, loved the music

Laurina Y.

Yelp
So delicious!! Got a reservation at 9pm so came for a late dinner. Got the winter flight and the mango sour skittle beer as drinks, which were really fun to try. For food, ended up getting the tortellini, duck breast, scallops. I loved the scallops the most but all were delicious! Got the apple crumble and pumpkin cheesecake for dessert and loved them both. Overall a lovely and fun experience and would really recommend!

Sara S.

Yelp
Spectacular experience with the chef's tasting here! Every course was so creative, delicious, and beautifully presented. The scallop dish was one of the best I've ever had, with a miso glaze and cardamom carrot foam. The foie gras dippin dots with huckleberry was also fantastic! There wasn't a single course that disappointed me. All of the servers and staff here were so welcoming and genuine. Can't wait to visit again on my next Chicago trip!

Yelp
Yelp
I recently celebrated my boyfriend's birthday here at Moody Tongue. The food was phenomenal, The portions are small, but that is expected since it's such a nice place. Our server also let us know this was the case! The only thing that could have been improved was the service. I felt like our server was not as knowledgeable as I would have liked at a place like this. My friend had a gluten allergy and he was not re-assuring her that the food would not be cross contaminated. We made this reservation via email since we were a bigger party and celebrating a birthday. They forgot to mark on our reservation that it was a birthday. I had to remind the hosts it was a birthday since they were unaware. Unfortunately my boyfriend was not greeted with his birthday beer and instead it came out with dessert.

Yelp
Had an amazing experience at Moody tongue! We did the tasting menu at the dinning room and every dish was amazing. The creativity of the dishes was what surprised me the most. I enjoyed the brioche panna cotta, foie gras dip n dots and the bread service disguised as pizza. I was super surprised with the dishes because the panna cotta looked nothing like our typical brioche bread but it tasted just like it. We had beer pairing with our dinner as well and by the end of it we were really full. It was totally new to pair fine dining with beer and we really enjoyed it. The waiters were really attentive and at the end we were able to take home one of the beers we tasted. We will definitely be back to try the a la carte menu!

Yelp
Point 1: very glad we tried this Michelin two star "moody" brewery and high-end restaurant. Point 2: it's a one and done place for us. We will not return. Very dark. Very masculine and almost frightening interior. My friend felt reminded of "The Menu" upon entry! I assured her we would leave alive! We started with flights. We were so so on the Belgian flight and impressed with dark flight. Caramelized Chocolate Churro Porter, Coffee Cake Imperial Stout, 12 Layer Cake Stout definitely made the long taxi ride worth the visit. Service attentive; indeed overly. They repeatedly cleared glasses and dishes before we were done. Hey gentlemen, we women eat a bit more slowly and we enjoy savoring. The place was nearly empty when we arrived. Picked up, but it was not sold out. Slow down service team! We did small plates only and no mains and that choice worked out fine. Though the waiter had been somewhat insistent about getting a main too, but he backed off. I enjoyed all the smalls. The braised pork cheek was A+. Winter Caesar, Potato and Ricotta Tortellini, PEI oysters served with two sauces including a very spicy hot one all good--but not as gourmet as we had anticipated from other reviews and Michelin guide. We had a cocktail/after dinner drink. Same problem--they kept trying to clear our glasses when we were not finished. Ask if we want things cleared please, don't just grab. Still a unique experience and I'm glad we tried it.

Yelp
I'm a new found lover of Moody Tongue! I love the vibe! The music is good. The drinks are boozy, delicious and unique; there so many to choose from, I love all the choices and options! We enjoyed the fries when they were fresh! Chicken was Ok, no complaints nothing special, this place is for socializing and cocktails in my opinion but small bites go a long way a couple hours into drinks lol. I prefer bar seating because the bartenders are amazing and wonderful! Lol

Rie U.

Yelp
A Michelin 2-star Brewery?! Yes, puh-lease!! Honestly, I wasn't sure what to expect coming here but our server, Ryan really made our experience phenomenal! He was so knowledgeable about the beers and made some solid recommendations--including the Forbidden Seas cocktail;Think super umami rich dirty martini! The umami comes from the kombu and katsuobushi; it was almost like drinking a boozy dashi. SO GOOD. Another thing Ryan recommended was the Moody Tongue Cesar Salad, which we didn't expect to be SO GOOD bc, you know, it's cesar salad... The shaved smoked scallops just elevates this salad by adding some serious umami. The Beef & Broccoli with A5 wagyu and black garlic puree was *chef's kiss*. How could you go wrong with A5 wagyu?! But put it in a stirfry and it's like the most decadent stirfry. Just delish. The Braised Pork Cheek with the creamiest grits (I don't even like grits) and pork rinds (oh yeah, there was some pork-on-pork action) just made the dish so memorable! All the flavors of the tender braised pork were just so rich but not overwhelmingly so; the pieces literally just melted in my mouth. Phew! That was just the starters. Sit tight for the mains. We ordered Chicken Ballotine, which came out beautifully. The chicken was perfectly cooked, juicy and tender that I didn't even need the sauce, tbh. But boy did that sauce make the dish even better! Wwe also got the Prime Skirt Steak bc we just couldn't say no to the Yorkshire pudding! I mean, the steak was perfectly cooked, tender, and juicy--bc at this point of our meal, we're just like, "what can't Moody Tongue do right?"--but that Yorkshire pudding had the perfect al dente texture. We basically licked the plate clean. For dessert, we had the Foie Gras Creampuffs (bc we both like savory more than sweet). The matcha milk jam was the perfect bitter sweet to the rhubarb tang. Our dining experience was in The Bar but we will DEFINITELY be back for the Dining Room experience without a doubt!! The bar has a cool chic vibe which is definitely good for a date night.

Yelp
Moody tongue is good but I don't think I'm in awe like the rest. Let's start with the good- Beer- such a solid IPA flight. Even the apertif Pilsner that they brought as a birthday glass was super refreshing. 10/10 for creativity and balance of flavors in the brews Now for the okay-ish: Food- I like hype/fancy just as much as the next person but I just thought the overall flavor was lacking. We got an assortment of items: Fish- good idea, good execution but not heavy on flavor. Also didn't like the trillions of bones. Scallops- it was good but nothing life changing. Caesar- refreshing concept, nice taste but left me wanting more. Definitely felt like this could have used more greens Tuna Tartare- tasty tuna, nothing incredible but still good. What was annoying was the singular tiny rice cracker that 3 of us were somehow supposed to split - kinda weird given there was so much tuna to eat. Like give me another rice cracker jeez Overall- it was a good experience but nothing I would rave about. Really wish they tried less with the fancy stuff and just delivered on a good tasty meal. Beer - still super solid, will be back for a pint 100%.

Yelp
Came here for my husband's birthday and loved everything about it! We sat at the bar and tried a variety of their different beers and vegetarian options on the menu. All the good we tried was delicious but our favorites were the beet salad and vegetable curry. I don't even like beets and I thought it was delicious! The vegetable curry was very flavorful and something that I'd definitely come back for! And do NOT skip on the chocolate cake... it is literally one of the best German chocolate cakes I've ever had! The ambience is dark and intimate which is perfect for special occasions. Our server was amazing and truly made our experience at moody tongue a memorable one!

Yelp
Went for restaurant week with several friends: ( hopefully the regular course menu is better) Overall the meal was very tasty. The one thing that I noticed was that each dish had a sweet element that I personally wasn't a huge fan but it still complemented each dish. We managed to order a majority of the restaurant week options between the four of us so we all got to have tastes. The New York strip was unimpressive (standard steak house comparable) but the chicken and salmon were delicious. Service overall was a bit slow, it didn't seem like there was an enough wait staff, and our server often skipped over us for other tables. We also all ordered an array of beers and each one had its own unique charm and taste some of which did not pair well with our meals at all. Nonetheless if you're a beer person, def worth trying a flight. The bar area does not feel cramped and tables are situated in a way where other people's conversations aren't a bother and you can't hear one another. Interested in trying their actual course menu because for a 2 star it's relatively affordable.

Yelp
My husband and I dined in their dining room for their tasting menu last year and we loved it! The food was outstanding and was paired well with their beer. We enjoyed it experience and wanted to try their bar menu so we came back today try it out. We also loved the food at the bar and the quality was top notch. Don't be fooled that it's a bar menu. It's extremely upscale and just as good as their Michelin dining room tasting menu. We love the dark library vibe of the bar and the service was great too. I highly recommend this place and we will come back again and again! Oh and did I mention that their beer is amazing!

Yelp
We dined here during restaurant week and were impressed but not blown away. The service was phenomenal! We were celebrating our anniversary and received complimentary beverages. This was a really sweet gesture and we really appreciated it! Our server went above and beyond to ensure we had a great evening! I really enjoyed all of the dishes I ordered. I had with the Foie Gras, Steak, and Lemon Tart. The steak was amazing and perfectly cooked. The Foie Gras was interesting, but not something I would find myself ordering again. The Lemon Tart was good, but perhaps a bit too sour for my liking. The loss of a star comes from my date's meal. He ordered the chicken, and it was quite dry. I tried it myself and was surprised that it was not cooked well. For being such a highly regarded establishment, we would have expected that to not be overlooked. Overall, we had a memorable time! It's not my favorite restaurant in Chicago by any measure, but I would recommend it to a beer lover who appreciates the finer things!

Yelp
After 2 visits to The Bar, went to the Dining Room for a tasting menu and it was amazing! I can definitely understand the 2 Michelin star rating. Creative, delicious, perfectly portioned, and well paced. Lovely experience. I found the beer to be OK at The Bar, but consistently good to great in the pairings here. 5/5 Dishes * Shrimp dumpling - the spiciest thing I've had in a fancy setting, a great dumpling * Ocean trout - my favorite dish, and the table agreed. perfect combination of flavor and texture. Helped by the incredible asian pear saison. * Dippin dots foie gras - I have huge ethical issues with foie gras but admit it is commonplace in the fine dining scene. The concept of a mid-meal palate cleanser is a revelation, complemented perfectly with blueberries and cherry berliner weisse. * Watermelon jalapeno sorbet - The buttery tajin crunch took this over the top 4/5 Dishes * Oster - refreshing with packed melon flavor * Crab hushpuppy - unique, volcanic vibes * Paella * Hookaido Scallop * Squab * Lamb borek - elevated street food for me, others at my table loved this * Miyazaki a5 - appreciate the small portion given the fattiness of this cut * Beer nugget - fun creative idea of pizza * Cherry semifreddo 3/5 Dishes * Caviar - I got the plan on onion dip but it was too on the nose for me * Chocolate stout - A tad disappointed we didn't get the famous German Chocolate Cake

Yelp
Loved the experience, 10/10 service with super kind and attentive staff. The food was amazing, top notch cooking and plating. Hard to pick a favorite but I posted some images of my favs. Ambiance was amazing too, my girlfriend and I felt very comfortable there. The sun was setting near the end of the dinner there and it was beautiful.

Yelp
The pre fixe menu was really a hit parade of some of my favorite ingredients: Dungeness crab, Hokkaido scallop, foie gras, langoustine, A5, etc... Seafood forward until the final proteins and dessert. Solid service. A5 had more connective tissue than I am accustomed to. I was told it's a center cut when I asked about it which I didn't really understand but didn't push. The chicken dish was a very pleasant surprise and my favorite along with the langoustine. My third Michelin 2 star restaurant in a week as part of a foodie run across two cities for me burning off expiring pandemic airline credit. Moody was by far the cheapest and not as over the top so probably more accessible to more American diners though menu did have an Asian feel to me. As a solo diner, the pace was a bit slow as dishes came out at same time for all of us with the same seating time. Made me really appreciate the dinner at another 2 star the night before that personalized scheduling. I feel like I could have gotten through the menu in half the time. If I were in a group or drinking alcohol, it wouldn't have been an issue. If I faced an open kitchen or had bar service, I would have felt the time better spent as well.

Yelp
Went to the Bar and ordered off the a la carte menu. Really loved the Hokkaido scallops with lobster orzo - was cooked perfectly and my favorite of the night. The grilled prime strip steak was very good but nothing special in terms of the dish itself (like you can get the same thing at a different nice restaurant). The guajillo braised short rib was also delicious, so tender. The potatoes that come with it are especially tasty. Finally I thought the Aquachile Hamachi was pretty but flavorless. All the beers were really good, and their pairing suggestions on the dishes are spot on. Would love to go back to do the full tasting menu one day!

Yelp
I haven't eaten there yet (although I can't wait to!) But their reservation team was just so exceptionally responsive and helpful when an emergency forced me to cancel, I felt it was worth a mention.

Yelp
Seemed a little tired. Service was a dud of a person who mumbled the menu offerings in such a low voice that we had no idea what he said. He saw us visually tilt our heads and lean in to try to hear him, but made no effort to change the monotone. The restaurant added a BS 3.5% "employee wellness" fee to the bill. We ate in the bar tables. The whole room stunk with the smell of fried fish. They need to work on the ventilation. The food was ok, but the service and ambiance were so off that we don't plan to return.

Yelp
I love Moody Tongue--definitely a gem nestled right next to the junction of Lake Shore Drive. Their interior design is 100%. A moody, dark, old-time police station or detective like lounge. This brewery expanded their bar to serve high quality beautiful American contemporary fare. I highly recommend their 12 layer chocolate cake made in house. Their chocolate cake is light, fluffy and decadent. I highly recommend their Pecan I cocktail. Aaron our bartender is hilarious and the rest of the staff members are super friendly. Definitely will be coming back.

Yelp
We were impressed by Moody Tongue. The food was not only flavorful but also creative, with a variety of interesting textures. The beer was excellent, and the ambiance felt both cozy and sophisticated.

Yelp
Accidentally booked a bar reservation not realizing they don't do the tasting menu at the bar.. I called and asked to possibly be put in the dining room & they made it happen! The tasting menu is a little pricey, $750 for 2, but it was 13 courses plus $100 for the beer pairing & they ask that you pay before hand which i did not mind. The menu was absolutely exquisite & the beer pairings (brewed in house) were exceptional! We had a mix up with our beer pairing so they sent us a free round of limited edition truffle beer that was to die for. Every server was kind, attentive & personable. A wonderful experience that ended with two goody bags filled with an extra dessert, a bottle of beer, and a copy of the evenings menu signed by Chef. Amazing dining room & a gorgeous sunset view. Absolutely recommend!

Yelp
Definitely piqued our interest with the michelin rating, and it was by our hotel which was a bit sparse restaurant wise. The road leading up to it was a bit foreboding in the dark, and they had an easy to miss discreet front door, so it felt like a secret club or speakeasy. Inside was spacious, minimalist with industrial vibes and overlooking part of the L train. They have a lot of very fun beers, and we went a bit overboard with their set of 3 tasting flights. We started in the wrong order (3 heavy ones first) which meant the 2nd round of lagers were harder to taste since they were subtler. My favorite were the bourbon barrel 12 layer cake imperial stout that was a heavy beer, clocking in at 13.5% - it was dangerously delicious. Some of the fruit forward ones (juiced lychee ipa, steeped emperor's lemon saison, orange pineapple ipa) were pretty aromatic, but milder in taste. We were intending on just getting nightcaps, but ended up getting some food too. We got their foie gras because it seems popular. In general I'm not a fan of foie gras because it reminds me of gristle, but it paired so well with their tart sauce. I was surprised what a difference the sauce made - totally transformed it into a more delicate bite, oddly akin to a slice of fatty salmon. The sesame cake and crisp it came with was super good too, mildly sweet and nutty. Their skate cheek (which we learned was fish) and grits was also delicious, the skate with its bbq-esqe sauce was very reminiscent of pulled pork, especially paired with the creamy cheesy grits. Our favorite was the tea smoked duck breast, which was actually a quite sizable amount, which crispy skin and the fat well rendered. It was also very easy to share since it was pre sliced and came with two cornbread cakes. For dessert, we got their golden chocolate custard, which was also bigger than we expected. It was creamy and vanilla heavy. The gooseberries were delicious too, though there was much more custard proportionately than berries. We topped it off with scotch barrel aged peated scotch ale, which came out in very fun giant snifter looking glasses. Would definitely recommend checking out Moody Tongue, I'd be excited to try more on their menu (especially the cocktails!) and visit other locations. I do wish they had more tongue (in cheek) references like beef tongue or maybe art - they got the moody down pat tho!

Yelp
Was very excited to try a Michelin Star restaurant also known for their beer! We made a 4:30pm reservation for The Bar with the intention of ordering some small plates to go along with a beer flight. We attempted to order food after the drinks were delivered but were informed the kitchen did not open until 5pm. Slightly disappointing since there was nothing on the reservation stating food was not served until 5pm. The server begrudgingly took our order early and seemed somewhat annoyed we were only ordering small plates. The water glasses were refilled throughout our whole visit which was appreciated. The beet salad and tortellini were very good which helped with keeping my review at 4 stars. They were played beautifully and tasted amazing! Although we had a decent visit and I'm glad we tried it, I don't think we would return in the future. We had much higher service expectations for a 2 star Michelin restaurant.

Yelp
Impressive seafood mix with the fatness of duck fat and beer. Interesting twist for a Michelin rated restaurant. Service was very excellent. Very attentive. Ambience love it except for the waiting area. Will be back soon!!! Have to fly from Louisiana!!

Lorrie Y.

Yelp
Came here for the beers but the food was just as good! They have so many unique beers and their menu was curated just as good! The bartender made great pairing suggestions and was super helpful when deciding what beers/food to get! The inside is dark and modern while sitting in the bar!

Yelp
Food, service, ambiance all on point. Beer pairings were expertly put together. Food made the beer better and the beer made everything better.

Sophia G.

Yelp
The food, ambiance, and service were all exceptional and made the meal fabulous. They continuously checked on me throughout the meal and answered any questions I had. I ordered the black truffle pilsner beer to start which was what I had been anticipating forward to since booking my meal. Unfortunately this was my least favorite part of the dinner, I had anticipated what the beer would taste like and my expectations were let down a bit. The truffle flavor is very light and hardly noticeable, which might be the route to go when creating a beer like this but for the price point I was disappointed. The rest of my dinner was great and I accompanied my tortellini and vegetable curry with the recommended beer pairings. Those beers were absolutely stunning and I feel contained the body and complexity I was missing from the first. Overall I would definitely come back again and think with this experience and knowledge have an even better experience than before!

Yelp
This restaurant definitely deserves their Michelin star! We were unable to get reservations for the tasting menu but, we found reservations at the bar. The bar area has a more laid back feel and better for a group of friends. The service was fantastic. The waiter went above and beyond to make sure all of our needs were taken care of. The tartare was out of this world and bursting withe different flavors I wouldn't think to combine together. My main dish was a Moroccan eggplant tagine. I usually go for protein but this was an unexpected delight. It is great for a cold night. We ended with the lime cheesecake and it was light and fluffy. They have a huge selection of beers that will not disappoint. Definitely try this place next time you are in Chicago!

Yelp
I've loved their beers, finally got to go. It's definitely a high end establishment. The venue is dark yest welcoming. Youre treated like royalty from the moment you enter. The Michelin star chef definitely lived up to his reputation. To be expected though. It's expensive.

Yelp
We had a few options, but I'm so so so glad we settled on Moody Tongue. The dishes were all outstanding; Moody Tongue is just straight up one of my favorites just purely thanks to the taste of each dish. It's one of those places where you just really can't go wrong because everything just all tastes so good. Also definitely get the beer pairing; there were so many unique flavors that accompanied each dish, and it all truly elevated the experience by that much. Definitely worth it. The service is attentive and outstanding, as they often are at these restaurants. The dining room is lovely with ample table space for all your drinks, comfy chairs, and good table-to-chair ratios.

Yelp
I wish I could give this place more stars! The dining room experience with the beer tastings is probably my top fine dining experience of all; but this time I came for the bar! The bar has a la carte options and all of them amazing, not a single one disappointed. Service is excellent and beer choices extensive. Prices are very fair; Enjoyed all the food here and left barely able to walk.

Yelp
We went here when it was just a brewery. We decided to stop in on a rainy day to check out the restaurant. The bar area is still a good size. The food was really. Bartenders were attentive. We liked when it was just a brewery. Now we love it with the restaurant.

Joan N.

Yelp
Interesting experience...not fancy but Michelin. The tortellini was by far my fav and I chose an espresso martini over beer. Had a bar reservation which is ala carte and yet still $150 per person.

Annie C.

Yelp
Honestly popped in hoping for a seat at the bar to try a flight and maybe a little snack, but could not resist trying a few more items on the menu than anticipated. However, there were absolutely no regrets because everything was truly amazing from beginning to end! First of all, the service was very attentive and knowledgeable when it came to the drink and food offerings (quite possibly a factor in why we ordered more than anticipated). We ordered a few entrees which were all so delicious, but gotta give a special shout-out to the Tea Smoked Duck Breast. I understand that duck is typically challenging to both prepare and cook, so I was really impressed biting into such a tender and juicy piece of meat. The fragrance from the tea leaves came through pleasantly too, balancing the gaminess you sometimes taste in duck, making it the perfect bite! I also had the opportunity to try the famous 12-layer Bourbon Smoked German Chocolate Cake. It truly was a treat and did not disappoint. Our server recommended us pairing with a flight of dark, dessert stouts which was really delicious! I will say, the cake is quite sweet and heavy so plan on ordering it with a group, or expect some leftovers! Michelin stars can sometimes feel pretentious, but my experience here did not feel like that at all. Everyone was very welcoming, and it is overall a pretty laid back environment.

Yelp
"The Bar" Review: Largely disappointed in a restaurant I had been looking forward to for a long time. In summary, the drink menu is great, but the food was simply just "okay" with overpriced small portions. Drinks came out fast, but the food service was slow. -Tomato & Watermelon salad is actually a scam at $17. No joke, we each got a spoonful of salad and it was gone, and it came out in a comedically large bowl/plate. -Hamachi was good, a little small for 3 people to share -Sea scallops were delicious over the lobster orzo, but only got 3 SMALL scallops -Friends got steaks and they were a little more substantial, but they also flagged it as just ok. -The cake slice is the only big thing on the menu! Probably won't make a point of taking the long trip to South Loop for this one again.

Yelp
More like 3.5 stars as opposed to 3!! This was my first time going to Moody Tongue ever for their 15 course tasting menu. I have not been to the brewery itself so I cannot comment on that section so this review is for the 2 Michelin star dining room only. I'm typically a lot more critical of nicer restaurants since they tend to be on the pricier side, so do keep that in mind as you read this review. You prepay for the meal with your reservation and it definitely costs a pretty penny. You also have the option of adding on beer pairings as well. The dark ambience immediately sets the stage for the meal. It's moody, which is fitting. The dining room itself is small and intimate with around 8-10 tables. As for the food itself, I think with many Michelin star restaurant in the US, many times what you're paying for aside from the service is the uniqueness of each dish as opposed to something that would be appeasing to everyone. With that said, we all had different opinions on which dishes we liked. My favorites were the smoked madai cannoli, which had a really nice smoky fishy flavor to it (which I know is not everyone's cup of tea), and the king crab which was definitely inspired by Asian flavors, the foie gras chaud-froid (I liked the hot one better) and the venison. The others were ok, but not jaw-dropping for me. My family also agreed that some of the dishes were a little on the saltier side. Also, don't be fooled by the tiny portions of each dish, we were all so full by the end! The servers were very attentive, as you would expect at a 2 Michelin star restaurant. At the end of the meal they provide a little goody bag with a copy of the menu and a bottle of their beer. I would say overall it was a good experience, but I don't know if I would necessarily recommend splurging on this. I will, however, definitely come back to go to their brewery.

Yelp
Had heard a lot of good things about this place and couldn't wait to try it and it did not disappoint. Entering the dining area you see a massive 4-sided bar at the forefront with tables around. There was only two of us so we elected to sit at the bar. There's so much to look at when you're here it was nice to be able to talk it over with the bartender. The big one specifically wasn't even food related but the amazing spread of beer. We sampled a good chunk my personal favorite being bruleed banana dunkel (fun twist on an Octoberfest classic). Food wise we got the skate cheek, duck and Foie Gras. The skate was the winner for both of us with the duck following barely behind (shocking since my friend does not like duck typically). We finished with the custard dessert and paired it with one of their many dessert beers the scotch barrel aged Peated Scotch ale. All of these dessert beers pack a punch at 14-16% but we really enjoyed ours (at that proof it's almost like having some port to cap the meal). Would definitely go back next time I'm in Chicago

Yelp
Quite the price tag on this tasting menu, but worth it. I have only been to three Michelin star restaurants in my life and this is one of them. We went all out and got the beer pairing and the tasting menu, it was fantastic. Each dish was paired perfectly with the beer and the flavors of each dish was something I can't explain. They also have a bar area that you can get an a la Carte menu. The service was outstanding and the atmosphere was very dark and "moody" lol. Overall a fantastic meal/ experience!
