Bagel Joint - Review - Greenpoint - New York - The Infatuation

"On a Greenpoint corner, Bagel Joint is a bright, pleasant spot to wait for your sandwich—which is a good thing, because getting a bagel here can take some time. Run by a Jewish and Taiwanese couple, this former Smorgasburg pop-up boils up miso bagels dusted with nori and sesame, gochujang bagels, duck egg bagels and more. The flavors are interesting, but they’re let down by a lack of texture in the dough. If you’re expecting the crisp, shattering shell of some of the city’s top bagels go elsewhere. But if you’re in the area and want to shake up your breakfast routine, try their St. Marks Sandwich with smoked tuna on a miso bagel with wasabi cream cheese and cucumber salad. You’ll feel that wasabi schmear in your sinuses immediately. photo credit: Will Hartman photo credit: Will Hartman photo credit: Eric Azaren" - Will Hartman

This place has amazing unique flavored bagels! Definitely a little pricier than normal. Bakeries but it has that nice trendy vibe. That Schmear smell on the sandwich will definitely linger on your fingers all day. No complaints here.

I've heard really good things about the restuarant so I've been excited to try it. I'm happy to say it exceeded my expectations. I'm celiac with quite a few allergies, so I'm always on the hunt for places with gluten free options. Usually there is only 1 or two options, if there are any, at most places and rarely are do the options taste like more than an afterthought. Here, I have actual options. And unlike most gluten free breads, the bagels are actually normal sized and have the taste and texture of a bagel, IYKYK. Also the prices are so reasonable. The only other restaurant in the neighborhood with gluten free bagels is nearly double the price and only has two options. The staff are absolutely lovely! Very kind, great personalities, patient, and answered all of my questions. All around an amazing experience and I will 100% be back. Definitely worth waking up early on a weekend to beat the usual crowds here.

Really kind and hardworking people run this place, which means the most to me. Bagel was tasty and I think the price is fair for the quality of the ingredients and preparation! Fun flavors to try, i look forward to coming by again. I hope to see this place flourish 🌻🥯

The folks at Bagel Joint are absolute culinary geniuses! From the cool bagel options to the specialty sandwiches—they are truly doing amazing things there. I don’t even have to think when I go there. I just ask the staff “hey what do you recommend this week” and they literally never miss!! I’m there every weekend and find myself wanting more. Highly recommend this to everyone in NYC.

Novel and innovative bagels and fillings and cream cheeses. A solid fusion of asian and jewish flavors like miso and gochujiang bagels with wasabi cream cheese. High quality ingredients. I would absolutely go here over the other bagel joints in Greenpoint. Please go and see for yourself! Recs: - The miso or duck egg bagel with wasabi cream cheese and tomato - The babkas and rugelach! - The tuna bacon and egg breakfast bagel options! - The baily is solid and flavorful and I think a hidden gem. - Strong coffee! - The seasonal options like mugwort bagels and scallion pancake cream cheese. - the duck egg everything bagel (so savory!) - their classics like the everything bagel and scallion cream cheese You can ask for some raw bagel dough to go and, if you're friendly, they'll agree! I recommend buying the dough, and some cream cheese to go. I got a egg and cheese and tuna floss bagel and I was not disappointed! Would go weekly! Some friendly feedback: - your toppings are so innovative, multicultural, and I think it's the thing that separates you guys from the pack. It's what breakfast in new york is all about! Lean into it more? Stronger flavors? Horchata babka? A mole bagel? Thai iced tea babka? A dosa flour bagel? Sriracha cream cheese or bagel? More specials! A milk bread egg sandwich? I think your wasabi cream cheese is the best because it's so distinctive and flavourful. - I noticed some reviews asked for a larger fluffier bagel or the option to toast or even oven heated. Is that something you guys would ever do?

I came to Bagel Joint feeling pretty hyped given all the buzz around this new bagel shop but left feeling incredibly disappointed. Bagels: My friends and I got four bagel sandwiches on specialty bagels. The size of the bagels were too small and amount of filling too little to justify the cost, and the flavors were on par with ingredients you can buy from the grocery store. Chocolate Egg Cream: The chocolate syrup wasn’t mixed in thoroughly, and the drink ended up tasting like watered down milk. Rugelaches: These were actually pretty tasty and came in a variety of yummy fruit flavors. Atmosphere: The store is cute with a fair amount of seating. However, expect every seat to be filled during the weekend rush. Service: We went around noon on Saturday and had to wait in a long line for ~40 minutes. The workers were friendly but given how busy things were, they forgot part of our order. Overall, there’s a lot of potential but the bagels are simply not good enough for me to return to or recommend this restaurant.

Every bagel I have gotten here has been so consistently good! You can tell they make their bagels with a lot of love and care. The flavors are nothing like I’ve ever tasted in a bagel and super innovative flavors like the miso bagel, duck egg bagel, and so on. I usually always ask for my bagels toasted but with these they taste good even without it being toasted! This is definitely a hidden gem and worth checking out if you’re in the area.

I wanted to try a new bagel spot. I saw this place had good reviews so I decided to try it. I always try out new bagel places with a toasted bagel and cream cheese. Super easy! If you can’t get that right…not the place for me. They didn’t have a toaster so they can’t toast any bagel; BUT they do make their bagels fresh. They told me that they just took the bagels out and would be happy to put it in the warmer again for a second. This is a decent experience so far, but they ruined it by putting a pound of cream cheese on the bagel. This made the bagel so COLD and so unpleasant to eat. Having to scrape it off with the tissue or pick off pieces of the bagel. I took a picture. It was about 5-6 tablespoons worth of cream cheese left over. That’s enough for another bagel! Maybe that is something you like that. For me… I like a nice toasted, or at least warm, bagel.

Yelp
Have you ever tried Miso or Gochujang bagels? As a savory bagel fan, I gave Bagel Joint a 10/10! Founded by a Jewish and Taiwanese couple duo, Bagel Joint in Greenpoint offers some unique savory bagels with an Asian twist. It is worth the commute to get your hands on these very special bagels (and jewish pastries!). As a savory bagel person, this spot has my heart. I seriously considered moving to Greenpoint after trying their bagels. The shop is clean and bright. There are plenty of seatings and a bathroom. *The St. Marks with Miso Everything Bagel $17 WOW MIND-BLOWING!! The wasabi cream cheese was pungent and spicy. It complements with the smoked tuna and fresh cucumbers so well that it almost tasted like tuna sushi. Shout out to the miso everything bagel--I should've got a dozen home. I really loved this bagel sandwich, even though the sharp, fiery heat made me teary eyed. *The Newtown with Duck Egg Bagel $15 I could hardly tell what was special about the duck egg, but it definitely tasted something more than just a plain bagel. The smoked salmon and caper dill cream cheese were perfect together. Refreshing and classic combo. *Miso Scallion Bialy $3.50 Bialy is possibly my second favorite bread after bagel. I was excited to know they had some special bialys like garlic naan and miso scallion. The texture was spot-on, and the topping had an umami flavor.

Yelp
The purple sweet potato knish was incredible. Highly recommend and it's the reason I'll be back. The miso everything bagel was solid, but it was my first time having nori on a bagel and I learned I don't love the combo. My friend liked it more than me so it is just a personal preference. I am excited to try other bagel flavors like the za'atar and saffron ones. They do have some tables inside and we were able to grab one. There's also a water station and bathroom so it can be a nice place to catch up and enjoy your food.

Yelp
Bagel Joint has just recently opened, and they're described as offering 'globally-inspired bagels'! We were excited to check them out on their opening weekend! Their menu offers unique bagel flavors, such as Miso, Saffron, and Duck Egg, as well as shmears and different sandwich options. We tried: +the Gochujang bagel +The St. Marks - a miso bagel with wasabi schmear, smoked tuna, and cucumber salad +The Newtown - a duck egg bagel topped with caper dill schmear, cucumbers, nova lox, and chives +a Tuna Bacon, Egg, + Cheese on a bagel Staff were friendly, and the space is bright and welcoming. +'globally-inspired' bagels +friendly service

Yelp
Staff were super rude, bagels were flavorless. There are so many better spots that aren't worth the trouble.

Yelp
Bagel Joint! Welcome to the neighborhood. This spot is great. The bagels are fluffy and delicious. Very unique flavor profiles and options. I got the duck egg bagel with dill & caper cream cheese and it was so good. The bagel is so fresh and has a great consistency to it. The menu is a little confusing and it was hard to understand how the seasonings paired with the bagels but we eventually got it. I also tried the raspberry rugelach and it was good but a little too sweet for me. Would absolutely recommend and will be back to try more! Also- the team is very sweet and diligent. Go early bc they sell out quickly!!

Yelp
Such a terrific and unique spot, creating intriguing and different flavors while still staying true to bagel roots. The duck fat bagels are wonderfully fluffy and the everything created an exciting zing. Similarly, the scallion pancake cream cheese took a normal cream cheese flavor and turned it on its head to make it new and different. (Though as is the case with so many bagel places today, we could all benefit from returning to the old definition of schmear as no one needs quite that much on a bagel, no matter how good it tastes). Treat yourself to something different and check out this bagel joint!

Yelp
Perfect blend if traditional approaches and modern perspectives. First discovered Bagel Joint at the McGolrick Farmers Market. Glad to see their move to a proper storefront has only enhanced their high quality offering. Highly recommend! Also their gluten free, vegan, and kosher friendly offerings make this spot a no brainer for all bagel enthusiasts!

Yelp
Excellent service. Other shops should take notes on how to run a shop. Great food

Yelp
was so excited to try their unique flavors but was so disappointed ! the persian everything had no flavor of promised cardamom and rosewater and was mildly saffron Texture was like any run of the mill bagel - definitely not worth the price and trouble
