BAK

"Take the stairs to the third floor of this unobtrusive warehouse (you'll need to ring the bell in the evening) to discover this rather rugged yet inviting restaurant with its splendid view over the IJ River. Benny Blisto sets great store by the origin of his ingredients, be it a carrot or ray wing. Locally sourced, seasonal produce is the inspiration behind his creativity. For instance, with slightly tart rhubarb and an exquisite beetroot sauce, he elevates a venison fillet to new heights. An exciting dining experience is guaranteed!" - Michelin Inspector

The 38 Essential Amsterdam Restaurants

"Seasonality, creativity, and simplicity are at the core of Bak, one of the best places to experience modern Dutch cuisine while enjoying fantastic views of the river IJ. Chef Benny Blisto carefully puts together vegetable-focused tasting menus with sustainable fish and game. The wine list is fun and varied, with a good selection of natural wines and reasonable prices." - Monique van Loon

One of the most scenic and beautifully designed restaurants in Amsterdam. The space feels like a cross between a refined atelier (arched windows and gorgeous skylights) and a warm, luxurious wooden cabin—elegant but somehow rustic. We opted for the early bird compact tasting menu, which offered thoughtful and aesthetically pleasing seasonal dishes. The egg yolk and beetroot course was a standout—rich and balanced. A few others, like the milk curds, felt slightly underseasoned in comparison. Maybe they work better in the full tasting menu. Service was excellent throughout—attentive, friendly, and well-paced without ever feeling stiff.

Cool industrial premises - view to the harbour. Experimental menu with fresh local ingredients by season. I loved bitter vegetables. Also two fish dishes in the menu were well-prepared and presented. Surprisingly, 2/3 cheeses in the cheese plate were from Belgium :-). Recommended wine was spot on. Staff relaxed and amicable. Groovy playlist fitted to the atmosphere.

Ladies and gentlemen, Tonight, we are proud to award one Michelin star to a restaurant that exemplifies quiet brilliance. From razor-sharp vegetable compositions to bold, soulful game dishes, every plate speaks with clarity and purpose. There is confidence here, not in spectacle, but in precision, restraint, and depth. And so, it is with great pleasure that the Michelin Guide awards one Michelin star to this singular and deeply assured restaurant. Amsterdam, take note. A new voice has joined your chorus, and it sings in its own key.

Highlight was the location and view if your are lucky enough to sit at the window. Food was fresh and service was friendly. However pacing of the food deteriorated quickly as more diners arrived. Still an overall pleasant experience

Beautiful restaurant hidden on the 3rd floor of an old warehouse outside of the tourist part of Amsterdam and overlooking the river. Food was phenomenal!! I had the full vegetarian tasting menu and my husband had the regular tasting and the vegetarian substitutions were well thought out and felt so special and new. We traveled to Paris before this and Bak was still one of my favorite restaurants from our trip to Europe. Highly recommend making the trip!

Absolutely delicious!! Be advised there’s no meat dishes. Mostly vegetarian and a few fish. Everything we tried was delicious and unique. My favorites were scallop and cauliflower dish, egg and mushroom dish and smoked radicchio salad. Atmosphere is amazing, the building is old shipyard, now I think it’s an office building with restaurant on the top floor. There’s open kitchen so you can spy on masterpiece being made! Extremely high level of service, which I find rare in Netherlands.. It’s definitely more of a special occasion restaurant and we enjoyed our anniversary dinner there!

We had a lovely night at BAK enjoying their flavorful menu and attentive service. The first bite of each dish offers intrigue as the flavors were quite complex, and as you eat more you want more! A unique tasting experience and great choice for anyone seeking flavors that you don’t encounter every day.

Great location in an old warehouse overlooking the harbor. The dishes were creative, fresh, well orchestrated flavors and textures snd sauces. The sourdough bread was delicious (best in Amsterdam) and made in a micro bakery in the basement. The service staff and cooks serve the dishes with pride and knowledge of what they are serving as well as the wine pairing. We took the 5 course but in retrospect 7 would have been better.
