The Latest New Orleans Restaurant Closings, June 2024 - Eater New Orleans

"June is the last month in business for Bakery Bar, an eight-year-old LGD staple known for desserts, cocktails, and savory bar bites. Charlotte McGehee and Charles Mary IV opened the corner restaurant set in the shadow of the Ponchartrain Expressway in 2016 as a showcase for their successful cake business, Debbie Does Doberge. It’s since evolved from its origins as a dessert and night-cap destination; in recent years it focused on brunch and dinner and introduced a menu incorporating Latin American influences and flavors. In an Instagram post announcing the news, owners said 'it’s the right time' to close and 'the right way to expand Debbie Does Doberge wholesale operations' and focus on Debbie on the Levee in Rivertown. Wednesday, July 1 will be its last day." - Clair Lorell

21 of the Hottest Places to Eat Brunch in New Orleans Right Now

"Brunch is served Tuesday through Sunday at this LGD neighborhood gem, now with a menu from former Bacchanal chef Lydia Solano. Both dinner and brunch got a revamp, with the former offering a succinct handful of classic and over-the-top dishes. There’s chia seed pudding with custard cardamom strudel, an oxtail cake eggs Benedict, and Spanish-style torrijas, topped with blackberry compote and plantain custard." - Eater Staff

A Guide to Dining and Drinking in the Lower Garden District (LGD)

"Bakery Bar’s location in the shadow of the Crescent City Connection is just enough off the beaten path to make for a relaxing setting for a nightcap or solo happy hour drink. Brunch is the main attraction, and it’s now available during the week as well as Saturday and Sunday, but there’s also a new, Latin American-leaning food menu for lunch and dinner. Still, cake and cocktails rule the day here, so be sure to try a slice of whatever doberge cake is available that day or a few dobites." - Clair Lorell, Beth D'Addono, Justine Jones

11 Standout Sweet Spots in New Orleans

"Just like the name suggests, this bakery and bar nestled on a cozy corner of the LGD is an ideal destination for after-dinner treats of the sweet and liquid persuasion. Though a newly revamped menu is widening the restaurant’s scope, dessert lovers still come for the restaurant’s anchor, Debbie Does Doberge. The multilayer confection is available by the slice, in mini bite-size cakes called dobites, or whole cakes by preorder. Daily flavor options like carrot cake, Irish mocha, and red velvet accompany the bar’s other sweet offerings like chocolate chip cookie beignets and the le S’more toast. Pair with one of the menu’s crafted cocktails, because being of age to drink and having dessert for dinner are just a few benefits of adulthood." - Adriana Lopez, Eater Staff
