Best Restaurants in the Domain in Austin | Eater Austin

"This San Antonio bakery brings its exceptional pastries, from elegant opera cakes to whimsical homemade pop-tarts, to Austin. Beyond sweets, it offers bistro delights, like the must-try roasted tomato soup, fresh salads, and savory quiches, like its namesake version with bacon, gruyere, and caramelized onions. Plus, the impressive natural wine selection makes it a destination for oenophiles. Dine on the beautiful patio when weather permits, and don’t forget to grab some extra macarons for later." - Darcie Duttweiler

We had a great breakfast takeout experience from Bakery Lorraine in Boerne! The breakfast sandwiches were fresh and tasty, the fruit cups were crisp and refreshing, and the pastries—absolutely delicious. The boxed water packaging was a little quirky, but it did the trick. A lovely spot for a quick and satisfying morning bite!

Maybe it was just me that had the bad experience but I don’t see what the big deal is about this place. I order my coffee and my food. I got a Matcha latte and a cinnamon roll. They gave me the cinnamon roll right away I don’t think they warmed it up. When I sat down to eat it, I asked one of the guys running by if they could warm it up for me. He said he’d be right back. I never saw him again. They took forever delivering our drinks because apparently they got the wrong number for the order or gave us the wrong number or something because she said there was a different number on her ticket then The one that they gave us for our table. My nephew‘s French toast looked delicious, my nieces breakfast plate looked good, even my sister said her avocado toast was good, though it looked questionable to me. I went back and ordered a Cobb salad and some macaroons. They said they cannot do the salad to go, so I just ordered it to the table and then boxed it myself. The salad was good. I had it later. also, because I was not very hungry at the time I had the macaroons later as well as the cinnamon roll which I could heat up at home in the microwave and it was so much better heat it up. I think this day was just kind of crazy and chaotic for them. I would try it again, but as I don’t live there and I’m rarely in town, I doubt that will happen. They don’t take reservations, even for the busiest day of the year. Which I find kind of crazy. It’s a seat yourself situation. And you can sit outside too, which is nice but there’s a lot of flies flying around. Sometimes the flies get inside. It’s also serve your own water, get your own napkins and silverware too. Other than that, the food that I tried was delicious Once it was served and once my cinnamon roll was actually heated up.

The food is consistently great quality and good portions. Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. The acoustics carry inside and the heavy chairs are very loud when moved. Pleasant decor and the turnover on bussing tables quick!

I loved sitting out on the patio eating my lunch the other day. I know it's hot but there was a nice breeze, the vibe was chill and my salad was on point. I will definitely be back to try some of the baked goods.

Google
Such a fun building and cute decor. More seating than expected. Indoor and out. Quick service. Order at counter, sit, they'll bring your food. Restrooms to the left of the counter. Don't forget to grab utensils. Water and glasses, salt and pepper, napkins and a few other things in the main seating area. Delicious food as expected from Bakery Lorraine.

Google
What a swanky little spot. It was quiet. I sat outside and listened to the cicadies even at 1:00 in the afternoon and Julie was exceptional. She took care of everything and even noticed that I was hot and brought me some water. So sweet. I had a sandwich the turkey pesto. The bread was crisp and the cheese was melty and yummy. The soup was really good. It has a tomato basil and I couldn't be here without tasting one of the desserts. So I had the cheesecake with berries and it was scrumptious

Google
This was hands down the cutest little bakery I’ve ever been to. I’m from out of town and didn’t want a chain restaurant and this far exceeded my expectations. I got a breakfast plate and vanilla latte and wish I could have eaten there again before i left.

Google
Wonderful little bakery and cafe. I had a mocha and a grilled cheese sandwich made on fresh artisan bread, and it was one of the best meals I had in Boerne. They staff are very friendly, there is plenty of seating all over, and you can tell how high quality the ingredients are. Not the cheapest place in town, but you get what you pay for, and this cafe is definitely worth checking out when you are in the area.

Yelp
The ambiance is on point! Quaint and cozy. This is my first visit, but I plan to make it a habit. I had a short Lavender Latte and it was nice (extra points for not too sweet.) The server (counter) was friendly, too. #HighlyReccomend

Yelp
This is a great bakery and they also have great sandwiches! We will definitely be back to try other breakfast and lunch options!

Yelp
Good place to have your choice of dessert. Nice view, and very roomy. Service is at the counter. Variety of cakes and lunch options. For this visit, we enjoyed some coffee and cake. Cake was pretty good, but not spectacular. We had tea because their coffee has a lot to be desired. Prices are a bit on the medium range. But food is enjoyable and the atmosphere is perfect.

Yelp
Took my brother in law and his wife to get coffee. They are moving to Boerne and we wanted to show them what a nice place this. Had mochas and cinnamon rolls. They loved it. Staff was very nice.

Yelp
I've been to the other branches but this one was the best. When the weather is nice, like today, sit outside, have a cup of coffee and enjoy the sun. It was spectacular with the breeze. We had a chicken salad croissant, delicious! I was hesitant but it tasted great and portion is good. It does come with pickle or roasted potatoes, meh didn't care for the sides. Soup was delicious. Drinks were great. We'll be back soon enough when the weather stays this nice!

Yelp
We came here because we got some gift cards included in our hotel stay for $30 off breakfast. This is a small bakery that sits two blocks off Main Street in a residential neighborhood. They now open at 7:30 in the morning if you need something for your morning commute. For such a small place it has plenty of parking along with lots of indoor and outdoor seating. They also recently applied a for TABC license to sell alcohol which will take affect at some point in the future. You'll find plenty of seating in an unairconditioning space next-door (used to be an old gas station). Their breakfast sandwich is one of their best sellers and it comes with a crusty croissant and roasted potatoes. Hashbrowns would've been a better choice since the potatoes seemed like they were cooked the day before and were dried out. My wife's avocado toast needed more avocado and less toast, otherwise it was decent. Their pastry and dessert case holds some real eclectic gems that are definitely worth checking out such as a grapefruit Tiramisu. Service was quick and everything came out hot and ready. You will face the tip screen when you check out, but the tip amounts are surprisingly minimal when the bill is under $10. Definitely worth revisiting. 10 photos included for more insight.

Yelp
The best desserts and macarons!! We love their loaded pastries and sandwiches. They offered free coffee after the election and we also got their drink of the day which was a special latte type drink. Great building and scenery to take family and friends

Yelp
This was our third or fourth time visiting this establishment and our opinion remains the same: awesome location, great ambiance that is conducive to spending your time there working and having a light breakfast or coffee, or catching up with friends, but the service and food is mediocre. Consistently we have found the waitstaff working the register slightly rude. The menu lacks detail so your left asking the person taking your order a bunch of questions and they always seem bothered by this, and the food we've had isn't bad but it isn't anything amazing either. Bottom line, if your looking for a place to sit and have a coffee or a macaron while knocking out some work surrounded by other people working on their MacBooks or in teams meetings and don't mind trading rude staff and mediocre food for a nice atmosphere, this is your place.

Yelp
This location is very chic. Pretty, in fact. The service was good. The potatoes were old and hard. Super cold. The prices are outrageous for what you get. I love the desserts from here. Will never come here for the food again. I get it. It's supposed to be upscale, unique, etc. but the quality is just not reflective of the price.

Yelp
Local cute vibe lots of sitting outdoor, delicious lunch sandwiches yummy Turkey Pesto! Did not have to wait long to get food. Lots of other delic pastries!
google avatar

Yelp
Ordered a coffee, an iced coffee, and two lattes. It took twenty minutes for our drinks to come up and they were fine. No one acknowledged or apologized for the insane wait time for four drinks.

Yelp
Gorgeous space! Lots of indoor seating and natural light! Great study spot...free easy to connect wifi

Yelp
The coffee did not taste fresh, mediocre and a bit bitter. Very small portions with hefty prices. I got the lunch special which is 1/2 a sandwich and 1/2 a soup or salad. The soup I only had the choice of tomato which was pretty yummy. I chose the grilled cheese, adding pecan pesto to it, and as someone whom admires pesto, this one fell short. My meal wasn't too memorable. I also had an almond croissant for dessert and if I would have known it had a, maple-like flavor with a gooey apple butter texture, I would have most likely not have ordered it. I wanted something a bit sweet but more of the airiness and flakiness of a croissant. I have had also their breakfast and I think I will stick to that next time I come.

Yelp
Fun, creative menu with beautiful presentation. The space was a clever usage of an old gas station in a quaint residential neighborhood, which created a really unique atmosphere. Service was personable and welcoming. I had the baked oatmeal and my husband had a breakfast sandwich. Both were delicious and filling. The house blend coffee was rich and wonderful. One of their giant cups hit the spot! All breads and pastries are made in-house. This will be our go-to stop in the area.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I shared the vegetable quiche and the tempura mushroom breakfast sandwhich. I'm glad we shared! The sandwhich was more to our liking than the quiche, but both were spectacular. The potato options on both were tasty and filling. The aioli comes looking like it's out of a squirt bottle in a cup, but it's very tasty. My mom and sister got the yogurt parfait and although the berries looked like there was condensation on them, they liked it. My BIL wished they toasted the toast before putting the avocado toppings on it, but he still found it good. I'm glad there's one in Austin because I will be back!

Yelp
Great food but nearly finished our meal before they brought out our drinks. First rule of restaurant is to get drinks out first!!!!

Yelp
Superstar of a place and where the locals go. There is ample parking and the table service was quick. They have a huge menu selection to choose from, and while the prices were a bit more than I wanted to pay, I was pleasantly surprised with the large portions I received which was equally more than I expected and tasted amazing. You can either choose to have your food inside or outside, and both options makes you feel very relaxed and welcome. This is a perfect off the beaten path place to go and a great place to take a date.

Yelp
Food - 5 Stars Ambiance - 5 Stars Best spot for breakfast and lunch in Boerne. Cons: Service is lackluster, and prices are high. Current favorites are the quiche lorraine, and cinnamon roll.
google avatar

Yelp
I don't think I ever realized that there I was a Bakery Lorraine in Boerne but I was working here today and Yelp showed this as close so off we went. On a cold, wet day it was perfect - went old school with tomato soup and a grilled cheese sandwich! Simple but done right with great flavors! Fast service and a great, airy space that was perfect for a working lunch!

Yelp
MY FAV. Absolutely love their matcha lattes, scenery and food. The service is fast and reliable with very kind workers.
google avatar

Yelp
The breakfast potatoes were not good... I don't know whether it was a one-time thing, but yikes. The pastries were pretty good. The quiche was yummy. The croissant breakfast sandwhich was good.

Kay R.

Yelp
Food is delicious and the restaurant is beautiful. The owner is always there and she is very friendly and eager to make your visit exactly what you want.

Rodney H.

Yelp
Amazing service and people there. Their food is very well made for them being a bakery and the restaurant itself is nicely laid out with plenty of options.

Stephen Stein

Yelp
Very expensive, but good, everything is good and I enjoy the food Full of hipsters and freaky old ladies, even the staff had tattoos on their necks and rings in their noses But easy enough to avoid by using curbside

Yelp
I am thrilled that one of my favorite cafes made its way to Boerne! This location is beautifully styled and curated with great spaces to work or join friends. Of course the macarons are delicious per usual.

Kerry H.

Yelp
Great lattes, savory breakfasts, and yummy goodies. We like the lemon filled things with the hard to pronounce name.

Amanda E.

Yelp
I love this new location! The grounds are beautiful and the service was quick. I ordered at the counter and got my dirty chai tea latte to go, but the spacious dining room has ample seating. I love having a Bakery Lorraine near home!
google avatar

Savannah R.

Yelp
Love this place. Great ambiance! Beautiful and delicious food. Fantastic service. The earl grey macaroons are really good! The yogurt parfait is amazing. I wouldn't recommend the chia latte, they add so much cinnamon it burns. The cappuccinos are pretty good. Breakfast sandwiches here are also amazing. Can't wait to come back here!
google avatar

Yelp
Nice little brunch spot in Boerne. Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, especially for a Sunday during brunch time. We ordered a Cuban sandwich, which was much better with a fried egg. The croque madame was perfect as ordered.
google avatar

Emily W.

Yelp
Atmosphere is charming. Food is quite tasty. I had the Lunch 1/2 Sandwich & Cup of soup. The Turkey Pesto sandwich was delicious and the Tomato Basil soup was pretty good. Their menu said Soup: Tomato Basil- & that is it, hence the 4 star. My friend had the Chicken Salad Croissant which looked perfectly flakey. The menu is quite basic- 2 salads, 1 soup, & a few sandwiches. We didn't try any of their bakery items , but the pumpkin cheesecake looked divine.
google avatar

Connie H.

Yelp
New location in Boerne- very cute converted gas station- so cold today so a grilled cheese and tomato soup hit the spot! I also got the raspberry danish and fruit tart- yum yum- try it out!
google avatar

Jason S.

Yelp
We had a great breakfast, the last time I had a croissant, this good I was in France. The quiche was delicious and my sandwich was fantastic thoroughly recommend one of the tarts as well.

Maddie S.

Yelp
I used to come here all the time when they first opened and would've given 5 stars every time. I moved away and came back for a visit and I agree with the other reviews... went downhill fast. I've given it a few tries recently and always leave disappointed. I got a Quiche Lorraine to go in the photo. Burnt my potatoes (also 1/3 of their usual serving size) AND the quiche slice is laughably tiny - hard to tell from the photo but the to go box is small. If they're going to continue down this path the price needs to be cut in half. Why would I pay $15 for this?? The service workers are kind and replaced my potatoes. But still, you were willing to serve this?
google avatar

Francois R.

Yelp
I recommend the atmosphere: so relaxing. Many different dining rooms and patios. Everything is so clean! I like the historical building feeling. And the food was delicious!

Yelp
Loved my first visit here! Was apprehensive after reading some reviews but clearly they saw more negatives than positives. Was greeted warmly. Was served promptly. Area is simply gorgeous and several locations for seating are available. Almond Croissant was offered to be heated and arrived as requested. Restrooms immaculate and every table I passed was spotlessly clean. Will definitely return

Yelp
I've been going to different locations for the past few years, also Boerne, but not sure I'll be back even tho the Boerne location is nice. Thursday, Nov 14, I stopped by for lunch and was met by a young dark haired young woman at the counter---I asked if they still had the smoked salmon sandwich and she said "no" like I was an idiot. I asked what was on the breakfast sandwich and I expected her to then roll her eyes. I ordered this and coffee--I put my number and coffee on the table---a minute later I went to counter to get napkins, silverware and when I returned to my chair I saw a young male employee walking off with my number (that you put on your table) plus the saucer that was under my full cup of coffee. I remembered him bc he was the young man who'd walked past earlier and I hate to be picky but he had a strong body odor. I went to counter, smiled, told him I needed the #44 back. I got a blank look. The meal was a disappointment---sandwich cold, potatoes old, hard, cold. I guess they just had the meal sitting there for a while even there were Few customers there. I was surprised since other meals there have been good but I'm not sure I'll go back
google avatar

Charles R.

Yelp
Came at 11 on a Sunday. I don't think we'll be back. Over priced for what you get. Coffee and espresso were room temp. Food was hit or miss, and between bland and ok. Took 45 minutes for a quiche slice with potatoes and an avocado toast with smoked salmon. Not just us. Other parties waited a long long time for food too. Slow to clear dirty dishes on unoccupied tables. Staff was dripping in sweat. I get it... it's 105 outside but I don't like sweat droplets as a garnish. Seems like thief kitchen is poorly ventilated. Pump up the AC or give the staff sweatbands. Staff is very friendly. Interior is decorated nice. Hate to be so brutal. I hope this helps them improve.

Yelp
What a hidden gem! The Boerne location of Bakery Lorraine offers the most peaceful and relaxing outdoor dining imaginable! There are 5-6 outdoor tables in the front of the restaurant, partially covered my a huge tree and surrounded by plants and flowers, plenty on indoor seating and 2-3 outdoor tables on the back patio. We enjoyed hearing the birds chirp while enjoying our salmon sandwich, brown sugar latte and croissant. I picked up one of each of the bakery's specialty Easter treats to-go, because they were too cute to choose just one or two. The employees were friendly and helpful too. I learned the restaurant is busiest during 10am-12pm for lunch, so if you stop by in the afternoon or evening (they stay open until 8pm some days) you can enjoy the sounds of nature with your meal. Across the parking lot, you can see some townhomes next door and I imagined if I lived there I could just walk over for a perfectly warm latte, croissant and be living my best Emily goes to Paris life! I will be back very soon!

Yelp
The food was yummy! Highly recommend the macaroons! Love the location and the cool building!

Yelp
Parking is tough! Not enough spaces for this renovated location. Excellent breakfast and lunch specials make this the new Boerne gathering place. Only downside to our visits is the noise level in the dining area. Difficult to hold a conversation. Give it a try.

Yelp
I had high hopes early on when Bakery Lorraine opened here in Boerne. Great ambiance both inside and out, good pastries, and high octane coffee promised another place to enjoy a quiet breakfast. Early on, service was spotty but employees were pleasant and eager to please. Since that time, prices have jacked up several times and quality of staff overall plummeted. Management seems too shortsighted to realize that the retirement of Denise at Little Gretel offers them a new opportunity to grab a large share of the Boerne breakfast market. I went in this morning and had to give my order to a surly and petulant middle aged guy at the counter. There were only a couple of employees on hand, one of whom looked like he/she was auditioning for the circus. While the food and coffee were good, I did not get the feeling that the business values my patronage. I hope they turn that around!
google avatar

Mike K.

Yelp
Been here a few times. Employees are less than helpful. Food is decent. Pastries are good but don't have them "warm" them up. A microwave is no place for pastries. You ruin the food. We wont return and based on the amount of people that are in there, I doubt they will be around much longer unless they fix their issues.

Sherry S.

Yelp
I had lunch there for the 1st time today. It was pricey for a croissant with chicken salad and chips. The sandwich was just ok- nothing special. The chips were a pile of small broken pieces for the most part with a few complete chips thrown in. Would not eat there again.
google avatar

Vince S.

Yelp
This converted corner gas station now bakery has beautifully enhanced our Boerne neighborhood with delicious desserts and filling bread dishes. Spacious seating, friendly service, flavorful food, enough parking and pleasant atmosphere. I hope you take a chance and create your own experience.

Yelp
Nice little hidden place in Boerne instead of having to drive to San Antonio. Staff was friendly and food is great.

Yelp
Where do I start? Since it was my first time here I mistakenly entered through the wrong side of the parking lot. Don't be like me....be sure to enter through the parking lot entrance on Oak Park Drive as it is a one way style lot. Anyways, upon entering I was warmly greeted by the young man behind the counter, my son and I were overwhelmed with choices as their display case was filled with beautiful baked goods. I went with the pumpkin cheesecake and a cup of house coffee, and my son had their chocolate croissant. We were both blown away by the absolute perfection of both items. As an avid at home baker myself, it's always nice to try a bakery that exceeds my high expectations. They also have bottomless coffee if your dining in. The house blend was a light roast and good enough to enjoy black. Absolutely gorgeous bakery with a unique modern yet industrial feel to it. Plenty of seating both indoors and out. Can't wait to return!

Curtis H.

Yelp
Food, service atmosphere were fine but the prices are off the charts. Will not go back. Plenty of other good choices.

Yelp
OMG what a lovely modern ambiance in a renovated old place, places to sit in outdoor; dogs are welcome and the food! Everything is Good! My favorite every week!!!
