The Best Philadelphia Rooftops For Eating & Drinking - Philadelphia - The Infatuation

"SIPS is fun, sure, but it’s also an excuse for groups of friends to drink $5 beers in swarms that seem to somehow double in size every time they move to a new bar. If that’s not exactly your speed, head to Balcony Bar. It’s a rooftop that’s only open to the public on Wednesday nights during the summer, and of all the places that participate in SIPS, this one always stays pretty calm. Plus, they serve food from the people behind Amada, so you know you’re going to eat better than you would at most of the other participating spots in Center City." - Candis Mclean

Went for Sips last week. Long lines for drinks and the food menu was completely different to what was posted online. They were out of most of their drink specials by 6pm, and had limited drinks otherwise. Definitely not a typical full bar. The view is great but it’s definitely windy up there. I might go back if it wasn’t so crowded. Not sure if they have other days they are open during the summer.

Went for sips yesterday. Clearly if you want to sit outside you have to be there when the bar opens. Too many people “holding” spaces/chairs for people who never showed up. Had a Chardonnay which was like water AND served in a plastic cup! Sorry I don’t do drinks in plastic how tacky. Decided after that to try the woohoo drink. It was premixed which should have been a big red flag. It was basically fruit punch. Very disappointing; if you’re looking to just be seen and stand outside I guess this is for you. Otherwise I say skip.

Good spot for SIPs. Plenty of bars setup so you're not waiting in line for a drink forever. The balcony fills up quick but plenty of standing room. Can't complain about the view of City Hall either.

The Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts, along with Jose Garces, announces the return of the very popular, pop-up bar on top of the 2nd tier outside balcony of the Kimmel Center. Balcony Bar @ The Kimmel is going to be open during happy hour on Wednesdays all through the summer months starting June 6. The bar is one of the most in-demand locations in the Center City Sips happy hour series. The Balcony Bar @ The Kimmel will be open on Wednesdays from 5–9p.m., featuring Center City Sips specials until 7p.m. Admission is free and beer, wine, cocktails, and select food by Garces will be available.

Yelp
Wonderful place to grab a bite to eat before seeing a play or orchestra performance. The food is excellent, though pricy. The drinks are astronomical expensive. $15 for a beer is insane. That said, the ambiance is heavenly and the service is tops.

Yelp
I attend my first Center City Sips for the 2023 year here. This building is so big and beautiful up have to catch a show here one day but happy hour is great here for sips with $5-$7 dollar drinks between 5-7 pm. You'll want to get there early to grab a seat on the balcony or inside. They have a dj that played good music hitting all genres

Yelp
Meh. Unimpressed with my first, and probably my last, visit to this pop-up summer locale. Partnering with CCD Sips, I excitedly visited this indoor/outdoor watering hole on level 2 of the Kimmel Center on a Wednesday around 5:30. The place was packed, but I figured some nice views of city hall and $3 Yards drafts would be worth the hassle. We stood in a relatively short line for our Brawler draft. Not sure if the CO2 was off, but the beer tasted a little flat. There was some seating indoors, but the views from the balcony were what brought me here, so I squished onto the balcony with all the other patrons; it was unbelievably packed. I was elbowed and shoved as I finally made my way to a small clearing in the crowd. When I was able to finally get to the edge of the balcony, the view was nothing special. You're directly across the street from two empty lots, and the umbrellas blocked city hall - there are nicer views from the street. I was impressed with the Garces group menu collaborations, there was a nice variety of tapas items ranging form $6-10. While we didn't order anything to eat, the food I saw others sampling looked and smelled delicious. The flat beer, the "meh" atmosphere, and the crowds make me think I won't be back. There are better views and drink elsewhere if that's what you're after. At least definitely not during Sips.

Yelp
I absolutely love this place. A fun view with good vibes. Music playing, three bars. I have been 3 times. This time I went I enjoyed a boozy popsicle! I also had a cocktail with rose vodka and ginger beer. Very refreshing. The service is friendly and efficient even when the place is crowded. I recommend going on the earlier end, especially on Wednesdays. Those giving poor reviews should try again at all earlier time perhaps! And be patient! My experience is that people flow in and out and seating becomes available both inside and outside.

Yelp
Came here yesterday with 2 girlfriends during SIPS. The view is definitely one of the better parts of this place. Unfortunately, they only had 1 bar that was taking credit cards (rest was all cash, shocking because it's 2018 and who carries cash?) but I digress. Their sips drinks menu sounded great- they had a margarita along with a few tequila beverages. I opted for the Paloma and wasn't that impressed. Some of the drinks were pre-made and this was one of them- not my best decision. The drink was VERY carbonated and very watered down. We walked over to the food booth, we were SO excited because it's all Garces! But to my disappointment, all they had were snacks like chips/guac/salsa etc. I was looking for tacos! I most likely won't be coming back here, mainly because the food and drinks were meh.

Yelp
We went to Balcony Bar for my birthday (which happened to be during Sips this year) and had a great time. The balcony was packed, and you do have to wait I it's at capacity. I was with a group so we just grabbed a table inside and chatted (bonus: convenient access to the bars!) until it cleared out a bit.

Yelp
I'm actually surprised this doesn't have more reviews based on just the view of Broad Street. My friends and I met here for SIPS (twice last year, once this year) mainly because we had a large group. The cocktail selections were pretty good-I had a blood orange spritzer. They also have a Yards Beer Cart if that's more your taste. However, most people go there for the view on a nice day so be prepared to wait or get there as soon as it opens.

Yelp
I think they tried to force a bar location that did not feel like a fun happy hour bar at all. It felt like I was in a makeshift conference room turned "bar". Patio was packed, but can't quite complain since it's summer. Only maybe that they need more seating out there, but it is quite small. Wasn't impressed with the lack of mixers at the bar; there was only grapefruit juice, ginger ale and cranberry juice and 1-2 types of beers. Also, the guy at the food register was telling us "I'd never pay these prices for this food, but hey" - great way to get people to order food! We did order and the food was great but would have liked more filling options. Not too bad but I won't be back.

Yelp
I came to the balcony bar for sips and was surprised by the lack of reviews. It was a great spot for sips because it wasn't over crowded and they had tons of food options! The drink options were pretty standard for sips but the food was better than expected. We ordered the $5 margerhita pizza, which is the size of a personal pizza but was yum and worth $5 for sure. We also ordered the shoestring fries that did not disappoint and had a delicious aioli sauce on the side. There were even black bean sliders on the menu which I appreciated as a vegetarian. The outdoor balcony doesn't have the coolest view but it's a large space which is appreciated when looking for a decent place to happy hour outside. The service was friendly and pretty quick. They also had a ton of raffles/prizes you could sign up so there was some stuff to do. If you're looking for a good outdoor sips spot, but don't mind a mediocre view then I highly recommend.

Yelp
We went for happy hour. Good alcohol deals. We ordered the Nashville chicken sliders. Oops! They brought out meatball sliders! $10 for 3 tiny sliders. They gave me the meatball sliders on the house. They brought the chicken sliders. I had to spit out my first bite. Not cooked enough. Fatty skin under the breading. Opened the other two up. Undercooked, gristly, fatty thigh meat. A Garces restaurant and they can't use breast and get their cooking right?!

Yelp
The worst experience EVER. Cannot tell you how awful the experience was Shots measured under cup size. Nasty bartenders and way too expensive. One bar, people waiting in line. You should all be ashamed for how badly really nice people were treated. WORST EXPERIENCE EVER. PUTS THE UCK IN SUCK. Cannot wait to spread the shitful review to everyone I know. Cool people, don't buy the hype. Go anywhere else.
