Firstly, it is Valentine’s Day & a Saturday so I know no one wants to work, understandable. But we walked in, took about 5 minutes before any acknowledgment just awkwardly watching staff pass. Ended up sitting at the bar, about 10-15 minutes sitting there before acknowledgment, bartenders passing multiple times. Even if you’re busy, a simple “What’s up y’all appreciate you coming in, give us one second!” and that could have solved everything. Love bars and don’t mind waiting, just was not a good vibe, felt off and not too welcoming. After finally speaking to someone, ordered drinks, very minimal conversation. Also hearing the bartenders complain about making the drinks ordered, not the greatest feeling. Staff wasn’t really friendly to each other either, not a “vibing” atmosphere. We really did really want to like the place, cool setup and lots of space. Been to plenty of bars across the country and this was a comfy one. Didn’t try the food because we didn’t want to stay other than getting our drinks down and leaving, as well as it being fairly pricey. Maybe would try again, but honestly there’s so many other choices in the city. (I hate leaving reviews like this but just being honest)

We had a great experience at this brewery in Downtown Knoxville! The beer & food were both excellent! We will be back!

Knoxville is half-way between Nashville and Asheville - needed a dog-friendly place to meet our daughter for a vehicle swap. This place was fabulous. Beautiful outdoor patio with fire pit, excellent smash-burger and fries, and a great locally brewed lager. Savannah was also an excellent waitress! We will be back.

After a 9-hour drive, all I wanted was a solid meal and a cold beer. Like Johnny on the Spot, Balter Beerworks delivered. The atmosphere was exactly what I needed—your classic bar setup with high tops, tables, and a slight industrial vibe. It was too hot to sit outside during our visit, but they’ve got a great-looking patio I’ll definitely be back for when the weather cools down. I started with the Sunsphere wheat beer—yuuuum. Light and crisp with a bold citrus finish. If you're into wheat beers, this one hits. So good I ordered a second without hesitation. For food, we went with the Ranchero Chicken and the Brewhouse Burger. Both were full of flavor and cooked perfectly—no corners cut. We’d happily order them again, though with so many tempting options on the menu, we’ll likely branch out next time. I don’t hand out 5-star reviews often—especially not for bar-style spots—but if I did, Balter Beerworks would be right up there. Check it out, and thank me later.

Love this place! Visiting knoxville and had to try their Eggs Benedict and my wife had the breakfast bowl. Fantastic all the way around, including the gravy. Im not usually a fan of gravy but i sampled hers, and loved it! Very friendly and love the decor and style of the restaurant.

what a great craft beer find in Knoxville! we were staying downtown, so it was only about a 10 minute walk up Henley Street to this place. Great vibe, very very friendly staff. We sat at the bar where Emma, Kaylee and Lexi took great care of us. The beer is top notch, I also tried their Mojito with house-pressed sugarcane juice, which was fantastic. The food didn’t disappoint either, loved the tuna avocado dip, the chicken sliders, and the smash-style burger. Loved this place so much we went back the next day. Some of the best food and beer we had while we were in Knoxville.

Boyfriend and I came here for a little anniversary dinner, had never tried it before but was very excited. We ordered a pretzel as an appetizer and it was delicious, finished the whole thing in 10 minutes! Only downside was queso was 4 dollars and was not told it was an upcharge. We then got our food a short while after, as well as two beers. Best burger I've had in a long time, and the mac and cheese was so yummy I scraped the bowl clean. My boyfriend loved his fish tacos too! Would definitely go again!

Seated quickly, waitress was friendly and quick to our table with drinks, food came out hot and fresh, salad lettuce was cold and crisp. Wonderful meal on the patio. Beautiful atmosphere in downtown Knoxville. Only complaint is the meat in the lettuce wraps was questionable. It looked like all the gross pieces I take out of chicken when I shred it at home. However, flavor was excellent. Regardless, I would eat here if we ever have the chance to visit Knoxville again. I also felt it was very reasonably priced for the portion sizes.

First, I have to say I'm not a beer drinker, but this spot was chosen by a colleague for a business lunch. I would have never gone in otherwise - and I would have missed out! The food was delicious and the service top notch. I arrived earlier than the rest of my party, but they seated me right away, and my server was so friendly. I never felt like I was inconveniencing them for being early. It was a nice start to the meal. During the early autumn they have an Oktoberfest menu and I ordered the Bavarian soft pretzels. They were soft, warm, and had the perfect amount of surface salt to complement the mustard that came with them. They were also served with beer cheese, and others at the table loved that. For lunch I had a veggie burger and I would say it's in the running for best veggie burger in Knoxville. It was THAT good. To keep it fully vegan order it without the chipotle mayo that comes with it, otherwise it is a vegetarian friendly delicious burger! Others at the table had burgers, fish tacos, and chicken quesadillas and all seemed happy with their food. It's a super casual space with cement floors, and I think they sometimes have live music. The parking lot is tiny, but there is overflow parking in a lot on the hill above the restaurant. I'd say it's worth the potential parking challenge to enjoy this spot!

Hold on! I'm going to give one of my long winded reviews again! For years I've been going to Balter Beerworks. Having said that, after retirement in 2014, I don't make it downtown very often, so my regular visits to BB had pretty much ended. But today I took my wife to lunch for her birthday. AMAZING experience. Excellent service from Alicia, great beer, and because it's Octoberfest I had the German sausage dish with all my favorite sides. Red cabbage, German potato salad, onion salad... spicy mustard.. Holy Moly! My lovely wife enjoyed some spicy chicken sliders as she's not a big eater, that were also excellent (I know, I ate one.) So I wanted to let you guys know. It was always a great place for both beer and food, but today was a great reminder on just how good this place is. And to top it all off? We sat in the patio area under the elm trees on a perfect afternoon. If you've never been, go there ASAP. You won't regret it.

This was our appetizer. Avocado toast or let's say it was supposed to be. I didn't see any avacado slices, except a very thin smear of acavado sauce I would call it. I'm not sure what it was. It was green and about the texture of mayonnaise. There were not even any chunks of avocado. It's like they purchased that avocado sauce like you get in those little lunch cups you packed in your lunch. It was gross. And they barely smeared it on the bread. I took pictures so you can see it. Secondly, they didn't even toast the sourdough bread. And I can tell you it was not real sourdough bread. It probably cost them a dollar to make that and the appetizer price was outrageous and they cut the bread in little tiny squares. Don't waste your money. I ordered biscuits and gravy which came with potatoes, supposedly sausage, gravy and scrambled eggs. There was no sausage in that gravy. When it finally came to the table, the gravy was not even warm. When they took my order you could choose how you wanted your eggs cooked and I said scrambled. I got powdered eggs which they probably mixed up and cooked in a big pan in the oven and everybody's eggs in their quesadilla in their breakfast bowl were powdered eggs. They were absolutely gross. I asked her if she would take my plate back and bring me some hot gravy and have them scramble me some real eggs. I do not eat powdered eggs. No telling what kind of additives are in those eggs that they serve but for a brunch place you would have thought they would have served real food. I will be posting pictures of everything I'm talking about here. When I got to the table my friends were already there and they had ordered a pitcher of mimosas and it looked like watered down orange juice with a cheap bottle of $2 Champagne or maybe prosecco. If there was orange juice in that liter bottle it was no more than a half a cup to maybe a cup. For a Sunday brunch you would have thought they served more than just black coffee, but I kept telling them the coffee tasted funny and my friend when she decided to order a cup said it was hazelnut flavored. They called it mahala coffee but if it was from Hawaii they were lying because the beans were awful. They should warn people that their coffee is hazelnut and they're trying to pass it off as something else. I ordered a extra side of bacon and some of the pieces were so burnt they crumbled and some pieced were rubbery, jelly, fat not cooked hardly at all. I'd be ashamed to even call that a Sunday brunch. I don't like beer that much but the one beer person at the table said he had two beers and they were just okay. When they brought my food back out. She said be careful the plate is very hot so I think they took my old food and put it in the oven to heat up my biscuits and gravy then took the powdered eggs off the plates and added fresh scrambled eggs. I will say the eggs were the only thing that was good once I got real eg gs instead of powdered eggs. For $30 for two biscuits and what was supposed to be sausage gravy with some little square potatoes, and eggs it was not worth it. Now that $30 was without the bacon because I made them take it off since it was not edible. The waitress without asking split the mimosa with me and another person. Because her family and I drank mimosas but I only drank a tiny half a glass and the waitress should have asked me or my friend who got the bill for the appetizers and who got the bill for the mimosas. I got charged for half the price of a liter of mimosas. I drank maybe 2 oz in a tiny glass and they charged me for half the liter of Mimosa which was watered down orange juice and $2 champagne. I didn't even take but a couple sips I'm going to put a picture of the supposedly orange juice with champagne. The other thing I did not talk about was the other appetizer was packaged cookies, guacamole and chips, and old fruit. The guacamole was like what was on the toast, mayonnaise, texture. And green. But the waitress charged everybody for the two appetizers when one person ordered them for the table and she did not even ask if we wanted that split. One person didn't eat appetizers at all. I only took a tiny square of the avocado toast so I could take a picture of it. It was so pitiful. And I had one chip with the guacamole so I could take a picture of that plate. I don't appreciate being charged for appetizers without being asked if I am at a table and someone says do you want to split an appetizer? I don't mind paying for it but when the waitress doesn't ask I think that's inconsiderate. I usually order appetizers and pay for them myself but share with the whole table. I was late and they had already been there 20 minutes and they still had not ordered their food because they were waiting on the way to cents.

Oh man, did I need this meal in my life. I was out way too late the night before, and this was everything my heart could desire lol. We got the deviled eggs, southwestern Benedict, green tomato Benedict, and the breakfast burrito. Everything was great. I didn't have anything to drink other than water, which seems silly at a place that has beer in the title, but check out the brunch. The servers were mostly younger folks, but really attentive and professional. The vibe is clean and casual. A spot that the local college kids dig, which I wasn't mad about. I'm a kid at heart. My buddy got the ice cream cookie thing and the banana pudding taster. The ice cream cookie will make me quickly turn into the Michelin man, but damn it was good.

Great spot before a game! Good variety of entrees, friendly service, and very reasonable pricing.

Love a good breakfast place, so when we got recommended this place on a short vacation, we couldn't wait to check it out! Its a lively spot for brunch and had a great atmosphere. Everything was fairly quick and everyone was extremely friendly. The brunch burrito, however, consisted 90% of eggs and had no meat or vegetable in it, which was interesting. The home fries were unfortunately very, very dry and hard, and inedible amongst the whole table. Unfortunately we didn't enjoy the food as much, but it is a lively restaurant that is a good time with friends/family.

Love this place. Fresh crisp beer and great food. I wish I lived closer to Knoxville or I would be more of a regular than I am. If your in the area don't miss out

Great family atmosphere, very clean, and delicious food. Had the breakfast quesadilla. Had to ask for salsa. That should be added as a basic. It made the already tasty food better.They shouldn't be so stingy with it. Mimosas were yummy too!

Balter Beerworks is the best brunch spot in Knoxville! It's definitely mine and my friends' go to spot for weekend brunch. Especially in the warmer months, their outdoor dining is so nice and relaxing. The food is amazing no matter what you get. Plus, they give you a "brunch platter" as an appetizer which has fruit, cookies and chips and guac on it for you while you wait for your entrees! And of course, the brunch cocktails are amazing as well. They have mimosas, bloody Mary's, and more! Since Balter is so good, they do get busy on weekends so be prepared to possibly wait to get seated. But it'll be worth it because the service is good!

This place hits all the marks, good beer, great service, excellent food. Accepts reservations, and can accommodate larger groups. Not a sports bar, but two tv's in the bar area allowed us to keep an eye on the game. Did I mention how good the food was...can't wait to return!

Stopped in for a late lunch while traveling on I 40. Our waitress Angelica was friendly, filled our waters and had good suggestions. She was great. I had the soup and sandwich. The beer soup came decorated with sour cream as if it was a latte. Nice touch for a delicious soup. The club had grilled meats, grilled bread and was fabulous. This under $12 lunch was more than filling. My husband had a beer and blackened fish tacos. He said they were spicy ( he likes spice but be warned) and rice and beans. He appreciated the hard and soft wrap on the tacos to minimize breakage. All in all, a tasty meal In an attractive venue at a great price. Good beer selection

We went here for Sunday brunch. Indoor decor was very nice, and even though we didn't have a reservation we were seated right away (party of 5). We all got beer. Their IPA selection was pretty minimal, and I wasn't really a fan of the one I got, although it wasn't the worst I've had either. On the other hand, their mexican-style beers were very yummy. We all ordered the blackened fish tacos and oh.my.goodness. they were AMAZING! So was the rice and beans. And you gotta love a restaurant that will fry you up a fresh jalapeño if you ask. 10/10 food flavor and freshness!!!

Stopped by to check out the food and of course the beer. Was not disappointed. The bar tender was friendly, efficient and helpful. The food was not just your regular bar food it was delicious. The decor was inviting and friendly.

The food at this place was very good. I had the beer cheese soup / chicken quesadilla / hot chicken egg rolls. They all came out in good time and tasted great! Our server was awesome as she took great care of us while we ate. The space is also nice and welcoming. We will be back here for sure. Also, the beer was pretty tasty.

We found this spot via Yelp. Overnight stop in Knoxville, 3 minutes from our hotel. Perfect little stop! Staff was friendly and attentive. Trace was our waiter. I enjoyed the Harissa chicken bowl! It was fresh, full of flavor, loved all the textures...was the perfect dish! Husband enjoyed the local farm burger patty and said his sweet potato fries were fresh and delicious! Atmosphere was comfortable. Only negative - parking. The lot is very small. Be prepared to park (somewhere up the hill, wasn't sure where that was as we lucked out when someone left at the time we pulled in) off site.

This is walking distance from our Air B&B, It's highly recommended for brunch. It's very nice place, Easy walk to market square. Beer was good & prices were good.

Came here for lunch and it was okay. Food was overly salty and did not come out hot. Beer was...beer. Service was good though - our server checked up on us often and refilled our waters. [Beer flight] You can choose up to 4 beers for your flight. [Chicken and bacon mac n cheese] Cheese sauce was thin and watery. Bacon was super salty. This was an entree so the portion was generous. [Chicken tenders & fries] The coleslaw side was sour and I don't think that was expected. Chicken was super salty and very breadt. The fries were barely warm and super limp. They were also very dark...like borderline burnt. [Pretzel & mustard] Ordered this with a side of queso dip and asked them to go light on the salt. There was still so much salt. Queso dip was fine but not hot at all.

I love this place BUT warning the deviled eggs are the worst I have ever had. I didn't know there could be a deviled egg I didn't like. Wasn't aware this was possible. They barely had a filling and the flavors were flavorless. The filling didn't even meet the top of the egg. Not worth a penny. How do you mess up a deviled egg ??? My entire table of 4 felt the same.

Big fan of the Balter brunch. You honestly can't go wrong here. The food was fantastic and the drinks were really good. We had the beermosa, Bloody Mary, and the mimosa carafe. Thumbs up for all three. We tried the breakfast quesadilla and the biscuits and gravy for our entrees. The quesadilla was the right size for one. The biscuits and gravy could be shared. But they were both fantastic. Overall this should definitely be on your list in Knox.

Beer cheese soup and a grilled cheese. A decent stout. But the beer cheese soup was the star. Best ive had in quite some time, excellent.

Brunch was super good !!! Our server, Angelica, was probably the best server we've ever had. The place is super cute and we will be back specifically for our server tho !!! She was great and went above and beyond when she didn't have to. THANK YOU BALTER AND THANK YOU ANGELICA

Very nice place, loved the atmosphere! Really bummed by the super small selection of beer. Ended up getting a cocktail instead, and it was pretty good! The food sounded and looked good but it wasn't my favorite! The fish tacos were recommended, but SO dry, I asked for a side of ANY sauce to help. The server brought the finest side of avocado ranch, which was helpful, but not enough!

Food was decent, but because we were traveling we did not get to try their beer. While the food we ordered was tasty, it was not over the top.

We went to Balter Beerworks before a Tennessee football game. The service was excellent and very friendly (5/5). The ambiance was casual and relaxed.m 4/5). Most of the food was good, but one of the dishes came out cold (3/5). We will return for another game next year.

Finally made it over to Balter and we absolutely loved the modern brewery vibes and the abundance of outdoor seating. We sat inside on a very hot day and were greeted pretty quickly. Our server was otherwise pretty hands-off and inattentive, unfortunately. Hubby ordered a beer flight, which was reasonably priced and had some great local brews represented. We started with the soft pretzel app and the beer cheese soup to dip into. The pretzels were amble and delish. Too much salt, but easy to scrape some off. The spicy mustard had just the right heat. The soup was good...and surprisingly sweet. It was creamy, not congealed as cheese tends to get over time, and had some flavor surprises. We both ordered the Tillamook burger-me with a side salad and my husband the fries. We weren't asked how we wanted them cooked, which was too bad. The burgers came out and there were two small, overly charred patties that were overwhelmed by the large (but very tasty) bun. The burger was very dry and we did not taste nor see the BBQ avo ranch. I would recommend ordering that on the side if you want this burger. The cheese and bun were the star. My side salad was basic and served its purpose (they didn't charge extra for that substitution, which is nice). My husband was very disappointed with his fries, as they were both over cooked and cold. I would go back to Balter for the fish tacos next time, but am not in a rush. I would love to try the patio as weather cools.

Food was pretty stellar! Grilled chicken sandwich and fish and chips were great. Chicken had really really good flavor - like could eat it all by itself good. Service was a bit slow and it was mid-day... Ambiance is good for what it is! Would come again, but maybe not high priority.

Came for a quick lunch and it was so worth it! Enjoyed a cool crisp beer with some hot chicken sliders which made for a happy me. Got a side of ranch to dip the sliders into and I was in heaven. Service was slower given the lunch rush but I'm not complaining at all. Always love the kind crew serving us. Can never go wrong with a meal here! Will be coming back next time I'm in Knoxville!

Great location and restaurant, we got seated fast and had great service. Ordered the hot chicken salad but with grilled chicken not fried because I can't eat gluten and also no tortilla strips as those aren't gluten free. My family ordered the french fries, sweet potato fries, chicken avocado sand-which and the balterworks burger which they all loved. Overall good experience and would come back soon.

We got the shrimp and grits and the fried green tomatoes Benny. Both of the meals were absolutely fantastic (not a morsel was left uneaten), service was quick despite being busy. Cute little restaurant with some tasty food. Will add this place to my brunch favorites! Look forward to coming back. Great deals on brunch drinks too! Can't beat $1 mimosa

I had brunch here last week and was delighted with great drink specials, a tasty entree, and personable service. The only downside is limited parking spaces. We had to park down a hill in a paid city lot.

Balter Beerworks is one of our favorite breweries to visit in Knoxville! The service is wonderful and we enjoyed our lunch at the bar. We definitely want to visit again to try their brunch menu that looks divine! This spot has a great casual atmosphere and is the perfect place to add to your Knoxville brewery tour.

Husband and I came for brunch on Saturday around 1230pm. We were looking for somewhere with multiple eggs Benedict options. We were seated immediately and found parking down the street. The restaurant was very loud, even at lunchtime. I'm 42 and my husband is 40 and in the entire restaurant there were only 2 other tables with anyone over 30. It felt a little awkward. In fact the whole place was about 21-22 year old college kids getting their "drink on". I got the southern Benny. It was pretty good. I did feel that there needed to be more an an ounce (total) of ham on it. Seemed a little skimpy for 15 bucks. The potatoes with it were yummy. Overall I enjoyed it but would have liked a little more meat and the entree to be hot. It was warm, but not hot. My husband had fried green tomatoes Benny and he really enjoyed it. Said they did their tomatoes perfectly. His food was hot. Coffee was $4 for a plain single coffee so that seemed like a LOT. Overall it was a pretty good experience. Wish we could find a time it wasn't so loud though. My husband is hard of hearing and we couldn't talk during the entire meal because it was so very loud.

It was good, small parking lot and my chips were definitely cooked like 2 hrs ago, the burgers were great and the fried green tomatoes were 4 slices for $10 so a little pricy

Service and ambiance hits everytime. We went for brunch and were somewhat disappointed by food portions for price. Much better options in Knoxville for Brunch.

Loved everything about this place! We sat at the bar for a beer and a quick bite. Atmosphere is very cool. We could see the patio from where we were sitting. It looked very inviting and comfortable. We had the fried green tomatoes.... Life changing! So delicious. I had the ancho chicken quesadilla and it was honestly the best quesadilla I have ever had. Hubby had the chicken strips and said they were really good. Beer was also good. The service was impeccable. Friendly, welcoming and attentive. If you are considering this place, go. You will not be disappointed!

One of the best things about Balter is what the name means - evidently it refers to "dancing wildly and enthusiastically, instead of well" - that is my paraphrase - but kinda close. We stopped in because we were checking out a distillery and the server suggested Balter for good food. It was so good - we are now trying to figure out when we can go back. We set at the bar - kinda what we do - and enjoyed a small taste of a pilsner for me, Wayne tried a flight - good beer for sure. For lunch we totally enjoyed a reuben w/fries and a quesadilla. So very good, and the team who waited on us was exceptional.

I had two great beers and a delicious meal at Balter. Warm and friendly service, a comfortable "industrial" design restaurant with lots of wood, exposed concrete and exposed ceiling and lots of seating. I managed to get one of the few seats near a power outlet and so I was able to stay for another three hours until I had caught up on my reviews and done the arguing on Facebook and enjoyed a good meal. I had something off their special Oktoberfest menu, a chicken schnitzel. A big flattened chicken breast served with cabbage and a fried egg. It was absolutely delicious. Beer? You bet. The Munich Helles and the Maypop American Pale Ale were delicious and enjoyable and refreshing. Fabulous meal and a good time at Balter. [Review 18856 overall - 379 in Tennessee - 2379 of 2022.]

Good brunch menu and they were incredibly accommodating for splitting entrees with fast, friendly service. Mimosa price couldn't be beat! Only took off a Star because my eggs Benedict were room temperature and there weren't a lot of appetizer options

Average millennial burger and beer joint. Good vegetarian options. Brunch is often underwhelming but good deals on mimosa.

Nice job! Loved the choices on the menu Got the Spocy Chicken sliders and the fried green tomato appetizer. Spicy chicke was awesome one of the best slider rolls I've had. Fried green tomatoes were fresh, had an amazing crunch only comment was on the menu it said with pimento cheese! I have never had pimento cheese and it was basically not even there. Less than a TSP on top but overall good job

Perfect place for a short sit down meal. Service was nice, place wasn't too crowded, and our food came out pretty quick. I wasn't extremely hungry, so I had the beer cheese soup, it was delicious! Others got the burrito bowl, which was also very good. Would recommend!

We stopped in for dinner and the last time we were there was 2018. I had a grilled Chicken sandwich and it was really good. My husband got a burger and said it was just so-so. They had a decent kids menu and our little one got the chicken strips. For drinks had a Moscow Mule and others had beer. I always enjoy stopping in when I'm in town.

The hostess was very rude and short. Parking was a nightmare and the wait was long. It's nothing special.

Great staff, great food, great beer! And especially, great mimosas! For only $7 during brunch, you get a whole litre carafe of mimosa. Or $1 for a single glass. Great burgers and fish and chips. The igloos outside during winter are fun as well. I love eating at Balter and always recommend it to people.
