The 15 Best Ice Cream Shops In Austin

"Fans of Arrested Development might know a thing or two about banana stands. In fact, the show inspired its own real-life take on the concept right here in Austin (there’s a second location near UT). Bananas are the name of the game here, but they get the full dessert treatment. They’re served frozen on a plastic spoon and dipped in peanut butter, vanilla, or chocolate (with a vegan option), then covered in toppings. If you’re not sure what toppings pair well with a banana, you’re not alone. Just choose one of the suggested options, like The Gob–a double banana dipped in chocolate and topped with nuts, or mix and match for your own combination. " - raphael brion, nicolai mccrary

When visiting Austin - I bookmarked this place seeing that it was open late &&& it's freakin' bananas covered in sweets. I couldn't pass it up! After dinner we had a craving for something sweet so we thought, why not? This location is in a Food Truck parking lot. When we got there, it seemed a little sketch so there was no one there - it was maybe 10:30pm so we were almost at closing time. They had cute fairy lights strung along the food trucks and brightly colored picnic tables so it's a super cute set-up! The staff was very friendly & walked us through what our options were. We could make our own or choose from one of the premade specials. To keep it simple, I opted for a wholsie S'mores Banana. If you have a sweet tooth but also want to feel like you're getting some fruits mixed in - this is your place! It was super sweet & I could only eat half of it (finished the other half the next day, don't worry - we don't waste sweets here!). If I ever visit Austin again, I'd definitely be back & try the Texas Two Step or the Cookie Crumble!

We tried out Bananarchy last night, and it was awesome! It's in this cool food truck area with picnic tables and turf. The guy working there was really friendly. The banana desserts were so good! You can choose a small or large banana and then add any toppings you want. Definitely recommend it if you like a little banana in your dessert!

Google
Recommended while visiting from out of town, the dessert food truck wasn't bad. While I understand its appeal, I'm personally let down by frozen banana treats. However, the surroundings both inside and around the truck were clean, and the outdoor tables were well-maintained. The short wait was a plus!

Google
Wanted something different and sweet while traveling in town and did not disappoint! I will definitely try again when back in town! I ordered the peanut butter one. I want to try the two step, wish I saw that one before I ordered but still loved the the peanut butter one. Definitely recommend! I ordered it off door dash and wasn't melted or anything!

Google
It’s bananas! To be honest we didn’t have high expectations and just wanted to try something unique, but it turned out quite delicious. They have set really nice combos or you can choose to make-your-own. This unique dessert wouldn’t disappoint. Also it’s an healthier choice :)

Google
Love this place. I can’t eat ice cream anymore so this has helped me with wanting the ice cream. And it’s soo good.

Google
Bananarchy was incredible!! Had so much fun getting a banana with my coworker, the flavors are spot on. It is so nice to have this spot in town for a sweet treat, healthy and very affordable. Can’t wait to come back around!

Google
I made my own banana with chocolate, coconut and toffee ( no drizzle). They give a good amount of toppings which i am glad about.. Next time I would get a half because i couldn't finish the whole thing on my own. Highly recommend this place for a dessert.

Yelp
Took a chance based on previous reviews and it did not disappoint. Bananas with chocolaty treats was phenomenal!

Yelp
Bananarchy is fantastic. A slightly less guilty desert that fills you up and does not break the bank. An entire banana is like 6-7 bucks and very filling. The frozen nature of the banana transforms it into an almost ice cream that certainly tastes like a treat. The quality of the chocolate and ingredients is fantastic. This place is open late and with quick service it is one of the best spots to go for a late night desert. Love this place and will be a regular moving forward!

Yelp
Fun and tasty light dessert. I like that they have option to do a full size or half they call it halfsie lol. I got the oreo crumble halfsie with peanut butter. It was a delight to eat and somehow they made the peanut butter stick as a thin layer wrap around the frozen banana... Dessert is not too sweet - which is always appreciated. This place is located inside a food truck park on S 1st street. I would come again and try other flavors :)

Yelp
Who would have thought bananas covered in goodness would be a business? Bananarchy did and it's amazing. So delicious no matter what flavor combo you choose.
google avatar

Yelp
Not sure if it's Cat with a C or K but she couldn't have been sweeter just like her delightful desserts! I had a sugar craving and I didn't want the heaviness of a cookie or cake nor ice cream and this was the perfect find! I got the Texas Two Step cuz I'm a nut and toffee addict, perfect crunch! Love that you can also do a half or whole 'nana but I definitely got the whole! Can't wait to come back and try the rest of the menu!

Yelp
This has got to be a landmark or something. This has been in the same trailer park eatery since waaaaaay before I had kids. Oldest kid is almost 8 and here I am giving it my first shot. The pictures of the ones we got don't quite do this place justice. There are many other picturesque photos from other yelpers so don't judge my book by this cover lol. I almost felt healthy eating this. I mean - if you get a frozen banana + peanut butter dip + nuts or coffee topping + peanut butter drizzle or even no drizzle.... kind of healthy right? Can hit the sweet spot still for sure. Who we kidding? If you're here - just go for it! Get the works! It's worth it. Still sends the signal to the brain that you had a guilty pleasure similar to banana split sundae but minus the calories of the ice cream and whip cream. Bonus!
google avatar

Yelp
This food truck has moved around town and serves up bananas (half or whole) that have frozen on a spoon (makes it so much easier to hold). You can pick a dip, toppings and a drizzle (but this isn't a drizzle - it's like a second dunking). I won't list all the options - there are a ton. Suffice to say - the fast you eat this the more you get that frozen banana goodness - as it warms your 'naner is gonna get soft and a little soggy.

Yelp
I was sceptical of going to a frozen banana place for dessert. Well, it was actually quite good! There were lots of options for dips, toppings, and drizzles. I went with chocolate, Reese's Pieces, and Nutella. A "halfsie" felt like more than enough for dessert. Service was friendly and helpful with our groups indecisiveness. There are a few picnic tables for seating and definitely the typical Austin flies. I think this place is a fun, atypical stop for dessert and I'll likely drop by for another post Barton Springs treat.

Yelp
Man this place is amazing!! I never knew I needed a frozen banana before but it's a game changer! We got the Texas two step and the classic chocolate with nuts and it was a revelation! Can't wait to come back
google avatar

Yelp
Frozen Banana. Chocolate. peanut butter, and nuts. What else do I need to say? This was such a yummy treat. I wish they were smaller, half plenty. Service was quick and a perfect afternoon treat.
google avatar

Gabriel A.

Yelp
Such friendly service and perfect chocolate bananas. Wow I am so impressed! I got a chocolate dip and coconut and pecans with a Nutella drizzle, and it was perfection!
google avatar

Yelp
I absolutely love the desserts and vibes here at this cute little food truck area! I got the cookie crumble chocolate dipped and my friend got the texas two step and we both thoroughly enjoyed them! The banana is slightly frozen- but not too hard that it's hard to bite through. The lady taking our order was so sweet and the service was super quick! It is a nice quick way to satisfy a sweet tooth- will definitely be back again!

Yelp
My favorite fruit on this planet is the humble banana. Yes, I know there exists sweet and juicy strawberries, watermelon, star fruit etc. But to me, a nice chilled banana is heaven. Love the fact that this food truck stays open late. It was the only one still open when we stopped by around 9ishpm. The concept is simple: you chose what size banana, the dipping base (chocolate etc) and any drizzles or toppings. I got the whole, dipped in chocolate, topped with crushed stroopwaffle cookies and crushed coffee with a caramel drizzle. My thought process behind the pairing was how good a warm and gooey stroopwaffle cookie is with my morning cup of coffee. The mini me got the half, dipped in white chocolate and covered in sprinkles. Let me tell you: 1) I absolutely loved my frozen treat. It was so refreshing! 2) there is no skimping on sprinkles so the mini me delightedly devoured hers. The bananas all have plastic spoons at the end which makes eating it so easy. Came with people who are not as fanatic about bananas, but they also really liked their treats. One even went and got a half without toppings. The lady running the truck even took the time to sort through and find a perfect "naked" banana. Note: we came really late so plenty of parking. But it's a gravel lot and I can see it filling up quickly on a busy day. There are only porter potties here, but a pharmacy/store across the street if you need.

Yelp
Warning: the hype is absolutely real about Bananarchy. If you choose to try this place out... you will without a doubt be back again. I've lived in Austin for 8+ years and this is one of the best deserts I've ever had here. You could list any desert you've had in ATX... Bananarchy 100% blows it out of the water. Come experience this place. Thank yourself later.

Yelp
I love love love this place! I think the concept is amazing. I love bananas and this is just the perfect little spot to enjoy a nice relatively healthy dessert starring the wonderful fruit that is a banana! Service so so good, friendly both times I went. Loved the vegan/dairy free options. Like that they have a halfsie and wholesie option. Loved the addition of the banana scrabble and coloring pages! Fun with friends Thank you to whoever thought of this great idea!

Denise V.

Yelp
Love, love, love the Strawberry Nutella Dream banana. It's a banana dipped in vanilla, rolled in graham crackers, drizzled with Nutella and topped with fresh strawberry slices - wish this was available more often... i'd get it a couple of times week if it were!!! The girl working there was so friendly & helpful... 5 stars

Yelp
Bananarchy never disappoints! I came across them a couple of years ago while looking for a snack in the area and have been back multiple times. The food truck park is cute and mellow, and the staff at Bananarchy is always friendly and fast. The stars of the show though are the dipped frozen bananas. I think a lot of us have had a chocolate dipped frozen banana but you haven't had them like the ones at Bananarchy! My favorite is the Texas Two Step. Do yourself a favor and try them out!

Hayden H.

Yelp
This place is so good!! I got the s'more banana and it was awesome. You can also build your own with many dipping, topping, and drizzle options. The guy working was super nice and helpful!!
google avatar

Chelsea H.

Yelp
The bananas are amazing and the flavors are so good! The service is also amazing and the employees are always so friendly and are always equipped with recommendations. It's such a chill spot if you just want a late night sweet treat. I definitely recommend coming here!
google avatar

Eric G.

Yelp
This was my first time trying one of these and I have to say I was impressed. A banana dipped in vanilla with graham cracker and nuts, what more could i want. As long as you like bananas, I'm sure anyone will find something to love here. For $5 i think it's a good deal and a filling, unique, dessert. Also, it's in a cute food truck area with a bunch of benches. Parking is somewhat limited but I'm sure you could find street parking nearby if needed.
google avatar

Jordyn B.

Yelp
I love to see the options and creativity that this city has to offer. This spot is a great example of that. A welcoming environment with helpful staff this is a great place to get a sweet snack to cool down on a hot day or even a late night sweet treat! The decor matches the businesses creative name which I find to be charming. Also can't go wrong with a sweet treat that includes a nod to one of the funniest shows. Try the G.O.B!
google avatar

Lauren B.

Yelp
Ordered Bananarchy on DoorDash and I'm so happy they have 0 delivery fees. This is one of the best desserts in austin hands down! They use great ingredients in their chocolate dip and this one is a perfect blend of peanut butter chocolate and graham crackers.
google avatar

Ashly A.

Yelp
Such a cute concept! Delish! Loved that you could order half bananas. Service was good!
google avatar

Cathy L.

Yelp
This dessert truck is located close to UT campus and is a pretty nice outdoor space with lots of tables, other restaurants, and string lights. It's a very pleasing and nice place to get a dessert after dinner. Everyone in our group of 4 ended up getting a half frozen banana covered in chocolate with crushed oreo. I guess we all wanted that exact combo, and it was very good - super refreshing and has great texture. Normally I'm not a big fan of bananas, as were some other people in our group, but the banana is the perfect ripeness and I think would convert even non-banana-fans.
google avatar

Michelle A.

Yelp
OMG. Cannot say enough great things about this delicious food truck. The banana dipped in chocolate with the peanut butter is my favorite! It's such a simple concept but is so underrated. One of my favorite dessert spots in Austin and I miss their Rainey location too!
google avatar

Elyssa D.

Yelp
Can I just tell you: This place is EVERYTHING I love. Frozen bananas are the simplest form of love. I have never been more excited for a food truck and they did not disappoint!!!! The best thing about it aside from the delicious flavor, the banana was fresh! I cannot tell you how many frozen bananas I've had that tasted sticky and old. The person that prepared my banana helped me choose between the many delicious choices. I contemplated adding peanut butter drizzle to it as well and they said that they thought it would be "too much" and the "caramel would complement the toffee, it would be rich but not too much." I took their advice and just got a chocolate dipped fullsie with toffee and caramel drizzle. They we're so right. It was perfect.
google avatar

Shabrin M.

Yelp
I got the Texas Two Step half order. This was such a good dessert, even in the cold! We found the food truck in the far end of a lot with other food trucks. The person who took our order/put together the frozen banana was nice and very efficient, we didn't have to wait too long!
google avatar

mallory t.

Yelp
The Milly Vanilly? VERY inconsistent. I order from here all the time. I've had almost all of the items on their menu, but I typically order one or two of the Milly Vanilly. Its super inconsistent which is really annoying. Pretty sure its supposed to have rainbow sprinkles on the entire thing. Its still good, but training and quality control would help consistency. It's literally different almost every time I order and I always order the same thing.
google avatar

Alyssa O.

Yelp
Amazing. Every time we're in Austin we love coming to Bananarchy for a delicious sweet treat. It's a plus when they also have treats for your doodle.
google avatar

K R.

Yelp
My husband and I stopped here on our way out of town. He tried the Afternoon Delight, and I made my own with Peanut butter, Reece's pieces, and marshmallow creme drizzle. So delicious!!! I'm glad they had halfsie and wholesie options, because even the halfsie was a lot. The lady running the truck was friendly, and the prices were reasonable. Would definitely recommend this place for a fun dessert!
google avatar

Allison S.

Yelp
Amazing! 10/10 service and presentation. The banana artist was very friendly and personable worth the Uber
google avatar

Joseline L.

Yelp
Delicious! It was the perfect refresher to a hot Austin day. The frozen banana had great flavor combinations. I felt the flavors melting on my tongue!! Went back the next day for more! The lady serving was doing just that, serving. The perfect late night craving.
google avatar

Casey M.

Yelp
Bananarchy is always the bees knees! Love this idea and it's so delicious! So many options and customizations you can make! If you're around the area, definitely stop by. There are a few throughout Austin, so just check your surroundings! You won't be disappointed (unless you're a negative Nancy) lol. The one pictured is the cookie crumble, it was sooooo good! We had it dipped in chocolate, but you can choose your dipping!
google avatar

Nate J.

Yelp
Friendly service and so delicious. Totally worth braving the heat for these treats. Halfsie was plenty for me.
google avatar

Korey K.

Yelp
It's always delightful! I go for The Joe (black) sometimes with peanut butter drizzle if I'm feeling fancy. Sincerely one of my favorite places in Austin!
google avatar

Marie L.

Yelp
This dessert is BANANAS!! I was visiting family here in Austin and this was one spot I could not leave without going to. I ordered the peanut butter pie banana (the big size of course) and this was the most decadent yet refreshing dessert I have ever had. I will be thinking about this dessert for the rest of time...GO GET A FROZEN BANANA!
google avatar

Slavizza G.

Yelp
Can't stress how much we love this FT! Specially bc it's banana! You can make it as healthy or as crazy yummy as you want mine is usually chocolate dipped with Reese's and Nutella wish they opened sundays though my one an only complaint
google avatar

Jake H.

Yelp
Bananarchy is a place I love to treat myself. I don't think I've had the same combinations twice. Today's frozen banana was dipped chocolate and vanilla and covered with toffee, Oreo and coconut. So good! If you go to one of their 3 locations on a Saturday, for example, be prepared to wait for you banana. But believe me, it is worth it! Go check em out.
google avatar

Atmanand C.

Yelp
I came here on wife's request as she bookmarked this place as a must try in Austin. I was fancied by the idea of having a frozen banana in different toppings. However I felt that the dessert was pricy for a banana. I would be okay had the dessert been super yummy. I ordered a banana with chocolate dip and marshmallow creme. The banana used was raw and hence tasted bitter at the end of every bite. The toppings were good and sweet but made the banana taste even more bitter. Unfortunately, I would not want to try a raw banana again.
google avatar

Skyler B.

Yelp
Bananarchy is such an Austin gem! I just brought my family who was visiting Austin to try this and they loved it as well, so I wanted to share their thoughts! The dips and toppings are all so tasty. These bananas are such a refreshing and fun treat, especially when it's hot out! I highly suggest the Afternoon Delight :)
google avatar

Ashley G.

Yelp
These are so good. We got lots of different varieties. All were perfect and tasted amazing!
google avatar

Lauren C.

Yelp
I was devastated when this truck was no longer on Rainey! I would only go to the bars for this truck. My first ever frozen banana was at this truck and since then I have been sold. I craze these bananas. Always choose the bigger option. Trust me they are that good! I get the peanut butter dipped banana with toffee and Oreo bits. I love this place!
google avatar

Jenny S.

Yelp
GENIUS DESSERT IDEA, and right down my alley for dessert since i love bananas This food truck is located in a lot with other food trucks. The frozen bananas have the perfect texture, not too hard and easy to bite into! ---cookie crumble: yummmmmm this was the favorite of the ones i tried but i love chocolate so naturally it was perfect ---afternoon delight: not bad but better if you're in the mood for peanuts Love that you can order a half banana or a whole banan
google avatar

Michael S.

Yelp
Waited 30 minutes just to be greeted by a rude greeting. We watched her touch her face and then tear aluminum off of a frozen banana without washing her hands or using gloves we were so grossed out our whole large party decided to walk away and try the pancake place across the way, very disappointed we were not able to try these we come from houston and we're looking forward to this.
google avatar

Eva S.

Yelp
10/10 Bananas. The toppings were plentiful and the bananas themselves were delicious. It was good. Good price (2 for $8) and would definitely come back.
google avatar

Briar W.

Yelp
I was blessed to find this place when I first moved to Austin. 10 years later I'm still loving it! I'm absolutely shook that they haven't opened up a shop. If you're in Austin and in the mood for something sweet, PLEASE DO YOURSELF A FAVOR & GO HERE! YOU WONT BE DISAPPOINTED They're close to Downtown which is a plus.
google avatar

Christina R.

Yelp
Alrighty so on a summer night, this place is bomb for bananas. Really great alternative to the typical ice cream run, and all sorts of delicious toppings. We got The Afternoon Delight: dipped in chocolate, vanilla, pb; topped with graham crackers and nuts, and The Joe Banana: dipped in chocolate; topped with crushed coffee beans, "with cream and sugar" aka toffee and cinnamon. The Afternoon Delight was yummmmy but kind of typical tasting, ya feel? Sort of like those vanilla cones covered in chocolate and nuts. The Joe Banana, however, is where it's AT. Coffee. Chocolate. Banana. It's like they know my soul. Don't even get me started on the addition of toffee and cinnamon too. There's a nice picnic table area next to the stand (surrounded by a bunch of other food trucks), which is semi-covered and nice to relax at while flinging chocolate/banana crumbs everywhere. Pro-tip: don't wear white.
google avatar

Briana H.

Yelp
I'm rating this place again because I just can't get over it. By far my favorite food truck in Austin. Don't miss out on the perfect freshly dipped and wholly customizable menu of frozen bananas. Tip? If sharing with a friend, go halfsies and share a few to get the most bang and taste for your buck!
