The fried tofu banh mi was amazing and incredibly fresh. The bread is made in house and tastes excellent, light and crisp. The tofu filling is simple but very well done. Staff had a great attitude, the Vietnamese coffee was lovely, and note that this place is cash only.

This banh mi shop is known to be one of the best in NYC and also is the only (that I'm aware of) to bake their bread in-house! They have a variety of different filling options but I got their special when I went. It was delicious. The bread was crispy and flaky on the outside and perfect soft on the side. They also weren't skimping on filling, pate, or any veggies. Absolutely delicious and I would come back. And, remember to bring cash as they are cash only!

This is their second location. It’s a grab and go kind of place. I really love the 5-spice banh mi. It’s warm and flavorful, well marinated with a good portion of meat. The original #1 is also good. Stopped by to pick up some banh mis on the Sunday of LDW at around noon. I had tried the other location a while back and remember liking it, so we decided to check this one out since we were in the area. I usually get the special but I saw that they have grilled sausage here (which is hard to find), so I knew I had to try that out. It's supposed to come with peanut sauce but since we were going to eat it later, I asked for it on the side and they said they don't have any containers. So strange. So I decided to get the sandwich without it because I didn't want it to be soggy. The sausage was really good but I was there was more of it. The sandwich was mostly veggies. Hubbie did get the special, and they don't skimp on the meat for that one. I would probably just stick to the special next time for that reason. Tip - cash only

Can’t beat the price and quality here. The bread is as close to the real thing as you can get. Everything is homemade and for $8-10 a sandwich, it’s the best deal you’ll get in Manhattan. My go-to banh mi spot in the city.

Most sandwiches are under $10, which is a great deal for fresh, satisfying food in Manhattan. It’s a small space with quick, efficient service. Perfect for a grab-and-go lunch or a quick bite on the run. Highly recommend if you're looking for authentic Vietnamese banh mi that won’t break the bank. Will definitely be back.

This was my first time visiting Bánh Mì Cô Út 2. My friend is hesitant about trying new places, but I managed to persuade her to give it a go. Usually, she buys multiple Bánh Mì for her family, but before doing so, she ordered one to taste at the shop to assess its quality. She was impressed by the freshly baked bread and found the Bánh Mì delicious. We then ordered six more Bánh Mì to take away, and my favorite was #8, which was especially tasty. I plan to return next time I visit Chinatown.

$5 Vietnamese coffee!! I really liked that it was a standard Vietnamese iced coffee with no frills. My original destination was le gaz, to try their signature Vietnamese coffee drinks, but at 1 pm on a Saturday, they were already sold out. So finding this place was a happy accident. Just a note that this shop is cash only if you're stopping by in person!

Solid sandwiches at fair prices. All the choices should be $10 or less even. They carry some summer rolls and other bites but I'm usually here for sandwiches. No ambience to speak of as it's just a takeout spot. They run out of the chicken more often than not. Another tip, request your modifications up front. They don't entertain changes after your sandwich is made. Otherwise, the sandwiches are solid. I like that they don't shy away from pate and head cheese but there are plenty of more vanilla options available. The pate could be richer, the veggies perhaps more tart, and they could definitely pick out the tougher cilantro stems. Still, it's satisfying enough that I regularly pick these up when I'm in Chinatown.

I LOVEEEE their banh mis! They bake the baguettes fresh in the back. They offer many different versions of banh mi. I tried the #1 which is the Banh Mi Co Ut Special (varieties of pork cold cut meats) and the #8 - Banh Mi with 5 spice BBQ pork (hot and marinated meat). Both were delicious, but depending on my mood, I could see myself going for either. The banh mis range from $8-$9.50. They serve them cut in half, and the sandwich is filling, but depending if youre eating it as a snack, having just the half is a decent portion of food. They serve different Vietnamese snacks here (savories and sweets). They also have Vietnamese iced coffee and fresh-to-order sugarcane juice. Banh Mi Co Ut has two different locations in Chinatown. I visited this one, but my understanding is they carry the same items and have the same exact menu, so it's just a matter of convenience which one you go to. Note: there is no seating, and it's a cash-only establishment.

They bake their bread in house here and use fresh quality ingredients in their banh mis. I got an Iced Vietnamese Coffee which was balanced with both bitterness and sweetness really well. Their most popular orders are the No.1 and No.8. The No.1 has all the classic cold cuts like pate, ham, jambon, and pork belly. The No.8 is made with grilled bbq pork. I loved the crunchiness of the bread but it was perfectly toasted and still chewy. Every bite was so satisfying and I'll definitely be back!

First off, a "hole in the wall" local eatery that only takes cash is typically good in my opinion, so I decided to get one of them Vietnamese Sammies. It was clear that the #1 was the neighborhood fave, but I went with the #7, meatball with carrots, daikon, and other julienned veggies. This tasty treat was in my hands with 7 minutes of ordering, if that. I just right in because a bish was starving. I immediately knew I wouldn't be able to stop until the whole thing was done. I do my best to not eat in the street, but sometimes you gotta get down on some street food. Seriously delicious! Can't wait to get it again!

The people there are friendly and great. I got the #1 - their special and #8 which is with the bbq. The bread was outstanding (not surprised) and both sandwiches were delicious.

This is the second location of Banh Mi Co Ut, but in this location their bread is made more like a classic Vietnamese Banh Mi, which has been surprisingly hard for me to find in NYC. Sandwiches are excellent, the special actually tastes like a classic Banh Mi Dac Biet you'd get in other areas. They have a wide variety of other snacks and small plates, and you can buy many of the fillings that go into the sandwiches (such as the head cheese and the cha lua). There is no seating, so this is a buy and go kind of place, but when we went the line wasn't too long, and it was pretty easy to get in and out.

Great banh mi and great value! Love their #1 and #3. Great picnic sandwich option also.

Got the number 2 and 3 - ordered ahead of time via phone (highly recommend). The number 3 is my go-to. I really enjoy their very fresh crispy bread! authentic banh mi! This is their second location - the other one is like a 5-10 min walk on elizabeth street (very close by)

Finally, some crave worthy and affordable authentic Vietnamese food, and not only that, but Banh Mi! Since the spot itself is very small, it's a grab-and-go kind of deal. There's just two staff manning the station so being patient is key! Besides that, they have a quick turnaround time, from ordering to getting your takeout. First time here and of course I had to go for their classic, the #1. The outward crunchiness with inclusion of its notorious flakiness, the softness of the meats blending seamlessly together in a melody of goodness, or the sprigs of cilantro protruding about as you're gnawing away was just utterly delectable. I had forgotten the lovely simplicity of a fresh banh mi, and savored every bite of my mouse moment. The only thing I would've desired in that moment was perhaps some spicy peppers in there or some acidity to cut the savouriness of the sandwich--perhaps an extra small portion of pickles veggies on the side. They are cash only, which while I might find a tad bit inconvenient, I believe helps keep the costs down. The sandwich was nicely split in two and put in two separate paper sleeves perfect for sharing, or tucked away after as a second meal. It easily boasts itself as a perfectly portioned light meal for just under $10. The soft spoken and polite chú manning the counter, whose calm utterances mingled between both Vietnamese and Canto helped me not only feel at ease, but quite optimistic about the food quality. While subtle a sign, he did not let me down. I was so pleased to see they offer a variety of prepared Vietnamese goods--from Cha lua, nem chua, che, and banh bo. All of these were on the affordable end of the spectrum. I ended up grabbing some baked goods, and was promptly instructed to heat them up before eating. My heart swelled a little when I noticed their "Ya-ourt," or Yogurt. I had some nostalgic flashbacks of my mom making them in little Gerber jars growing up and labeling them in that little polite Vietnamese penmanship. The affordability, tastiness, simplicity, and variety of this place so far cannot be beat for me. I'll be yearning to go back in order to try the rest of the sandwiches whenever I'm back in the area. Coming from California there's a severe lack of delicious and affordable Vietnamese cuisine here so this will definitely be a pillar for me. Thank you Bánh Mì Cô Út team!

I've been seeing a lot of tiktoks about Banh Mi Co Ut, but I didn't realized there were so many of them all over Chinatown. This particular one was a hole in a wall, so don't expect much of an ambiance. The cashier was really nice and didn't rush us to order. I knew I had to try the #1 and the wait for the food wasn't long at all (granted that there was only one other customer before us). The bread was softer than other banh mi places, so that was interesting. The flavor was really good, but I don't know if it's any better than other Banh Mi spots in the city but still a decent Banh Mi.

Best Banh Mi in Manhattan. I like #1 and #2. I also love the iced coffee. The folks who work here are also very sweet and recognize regular customers. Highly recommend this for a tasty meal and especially a value meal.

Pretty good tofu banh mi, and you can't beat the price. Only complaint is my friend ordered the xoi (sticky rice) and his order literally took over 20 minutes. I'm not sure if they forgot or were just busy, but they were friendly and apologetic when we asked for our order. Cash only.

poor customers service, the food is ok but poor customers service, I have to control my nerves so I can get the food

I came here after a morning of Chinatown errand running and it's going to become a stop for me now. I've struggled to find a bahn mi that really scratches that itch, and this is the one. I got the No. 1, the Bahn Mi Co Ut Special (without cilantro because I unfortunately have the thing where it tastes like soap). It could have used something herbaceous -- but that's on me and not the location. I had the first half right away and it was fantastic but if you want a real treat, forget the other half in your backpack while you run other errands and eat it a couple hours later. It's honestly better that way! It's something about all of the ingredients intermingling (and maybe a growing appetite) that makes it great. I would suggest this to anyone. I suppose avoid this location if you're just in it for the social media posts? There's no IG background moment waiting for you. But the staff was super nice and accommodating. Everything was fresh -- the pickled veg stood out to me. It was a good counter balance to the deli meats and pate. I also got the pandan honeycomb -- I haven't tried it yet but if the sandwich is any indication, I'm sure it'll be great.

I was happy to come across a Bahn mi place in NY Chinatown which boasted great ratings on Yelp. Always looking for a good grilled pork Bahn mi; I so wanted this to be delicious but was sadly disappointed. I've had many grilled pork Bahn mi sandwiches in the tri state area and this the first one where the pork was in processed form with a consistency like that of Spam. Hard pass. My search continues.
