Banh Mi Station Opens at Sylvan Thirty in West Dallas - Eater Dallas

"Bánh Mì Station, a new destination for Vietnam’s favorite sandwich, has officially opened its doors at Sylvan Thirty. The new sandwich shop occupies a 1,440 square foot, 'French-industrial' space that seats 50 diners at the West Dallas development, designed by Coeval Studio. Adjacent to the dining room, a small patio will provide additional seating, and it’s enclosed to ensure that people can eat their sandwiches outside regardless of what the weather looks like. As far as the food is concerned, bánh mì is (not surprisingly) the star of the show. Diners can stuff toasted baguettes with Vietnamese-style duck confit, coconut curry brisket, five-spice brisket, and more proteins, along with the traditional pickled vegetables, cilantro, and jalapenos. Vegan proteins, including buffalo 'un-chicken' and jackfruit 'crab cakes' are also on offer, along with red curry mac and cheese, french fries, and soft serve ice cream in flavors like Vietnamese iced coffee and matcha. Bánh Mì Station is now open at Sylvan Thirty from 10:45 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday and Monday and 10:45 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday." - Amy McCarthy

Have ordered from here before, consistently excellent. I was in the area visiting another store and stopped by during a quiet, late afternoon on a Tuesday. They have a cashier and a contactless option, a large tablet. I like the convenience of a visual and It simplifies modifying the dishes. I ordered for takeout within 5 minutes and received my order within 10 minutes. The brisket with coconut curry sandwich is exceptional. Add avocado.

Google
The food is delicious. I got the pork belly banh mi but I will say that the sauce they use is a little too sweet. The bao buns are so soft. Fries are crispy and soft from the inside and same for spring rolls!

Google
Got the jackfruit crab sandwich. The bread was good and well prepared, but the meatball itself is kind of dry. The Sriracha fries are good. The ambience is nice. We can sit outside and have a good meal. This could be an option for an easy get together with a friend on an evening. The parking is great since it’s in the Sylvan Avenue.

This place got some creative flavors for banh mi ive seen and boy they were yummy! I got the lemongrass chicken cause lemongrass is a staple in most of my familys cooking and seeing it incorporated in banh mi was so exciting to see i had to get and was not disappointed!

Google
Delicious Banh Mi sandwiches! I’m on a low carb, high protein diet and these guys can accommodate. I just ordered sides of the meat and it was amazing! My son and husband loved the sandwich and the bao buns!

Google
We tried 3 different bao buns: the falafel, which tasted fried; the chicken, which was also very fried; and the crab, which was good. The second issue was the sauce, they barely put any! We also had the banh mi with jackfruit crab cakes, but it had no taste. The problem is that they use the same ingredients everywhere( coriander , carrots) , which makes everything taste the same.

Google
we got the grilled lemongrass chicken bahn mi and the soft shell crab bao buns. they were SO delicious!! perfectly cooked and fast and great service!! IG: @savorandslay (:

Google
A hidden gem tucked away in a busy part of Dallas. The trees partially blocked the sign when we pulled in, but we managed to find it. Although the restaurant was nearly empty, the aroma inside was incredible. We ordered the Five-Spice Pork Belly Bao Bun, the Vietuckey Fried Chicken Bao Bun, and the red curry mac & cheese. Each dish was packed with flavor and really well-executed. That said, the portion sizes felt small for the price, and I left wanting just a bit more. Still, it's definitely worth a visit if you're in the area, especially if you're craving something unique and bold.

Yelp
Great lunch spot! I had the Meatball/Hanoi style sandwich and it was really good (I added the fried egg too). Service was very quick and friendly, and the food didn't disappoint at all. I'll be back!

Yelp
Ratings from a teen and a pre-teen: They loved it. They raved about how great it was, although I've been to authentic Vietnamese places in Arlington and Richardson that serve legit bánh mì and bánh bao in those cash-only spots. That said, since it's not too spicy or overly seasoned, I can see why it's rated the "top bun bao" spot by folks new to Vietnamese cuisine. The spot isn't even owned by a Vietnamese family (Thai owned). It's a vegan-friendly spot, which is encouraging to see in this area. The interior is immaculately clean, and the decor is subtle yet bold with accent wall enhancements. The menu is short, straightforward, but rewarding. On the flip side: When you walk in, there is an order line and a pick-up line. The college student cashier had us waiting five minutes until the owner in the kitchen flagged that we needed to order. There is a large iPad-like kiosk facing the cashier that was offline (during lunch hour, no less), and we were asked to move to the pickup line to place our order. While the ordering took about 10 minutes, the food was out in less time than that. I'll return but only if my kids ask me to. Catch me outside in Arlington or Richardson Viet supermarkets instead.

Yelp
While I think the price is a bit high for a banh mi, I will say the food is good and the portion is big. I got the five spice pork belly which was very flavorful, and the meat was soft. Service was quick as well.

Yelp
Food is always amazing here. Pick up at least twice a month. Would recommend their salad as well as their Viet Fries
google avatar

Yelp
Nice little place. Hardly anyone there on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. Say outside on the patio. Peaceful. Didn't really care for the bahn mi. Good bun. Not enough crunchy veggies and the pork was more like sweet pulled pork from a Texas barbecue than a traditional bahn mi. Four stars for the ambiance but the bahn mi was meh. Seems like I remember it being better last time I was there several years ago.
google avatar

Michelle M.

Yelp
The service was quick & food came out hot. Plenty of indoor & outdoor seating. The restaurant was decorated nicely and had a chill vibe. The food itself was pretty good but not authentic Viet food. I would say ask for less sauce on the fries, it was a little sweet for me but still really good!

Yelp
I just revisited Bonnie station for the first time in a long time. And it was amazing! As a little tip, I just got a side of pork belly because I wasn't feeling bread-y. But also got a side of pickled veggies and the summer rolls. The combination was a nice light lunch.

Yelp
Cute fast casual spot for Asian food! Parking is easy as well. Got the trio bao - salmon, soft shell crab, and pork belly. All were tasty, wasn't a huge fan of the batter that the crab was fried in though. Loved the red curry Mac and cheese. The raw pad Thai salad was very refreshing and light!

Yelp
Whenever i'm in Dallas I make sure to stop by and grab a bao bun and bahn mi on my way back to Fort Worth. The staff is always very friendly and puts up with all my questions about their menu. With a variety of bao buns, including vegan bao buns (the buns are always vegan here), you can get almost anything you're in the mood for. Their Vietucky Fried Chicken bao is arguably their best menu item. The chicken is always tender and juicy and works so well with the soft, freshly made bao buns. The salmon bao is interesting so you relaly have to be in the mood for this item. The pork belly is very flavorful and you'll regret only ordering one. The tofu bao is good but I wish the tofu was more fried so it wouldn't blend in with the soft chewy texture of the bao bun. The panko bao bun is very good but the chicken option is very smiliar/better. The grilled lemongrass chicken bahn mi is my go to but it is a bit safe. If you are wanting to go to "flavor town" I suggest trying their brisket in coconut curry bahn mi. I'm ready to go back just writing this review. 11/10 would recommend to anyone, even if Vietnamese is out of their comfort zone.

Yelp
Dallas doesn't exactly scream Vietnamese, but hey why not switch it up from time to time? Manh mi station is primarily Vietnamese subs, which happens to be one of the sandwiches I find most enjoyable. Pretty simple concept: order at the counter kiosk, grab a table and wait for the food to be delivered table side. I go for the spring rolls and the pork belly banh mi. The rolls are extra crispy and come with a sweet dipping sauce. Satisfaction achieved! Now on to the main character. Did I mention it is 5 spice pork belly? Who can possible resist? The sandwich itself is enormous and comes filled with a generous portion of pork belly.....tender and flavorful. The one downside, the bread(which I know Is normally crispy in a typical banh mi) might be a little too crispy and doesn't have enough chew. But still a good sandwich overall.

Yelp
This was a solid fusion spot for banh mi and their fries appetizer shared between friends! The inside is spacious with a slightly industrial and open feel, and you order at the counter. I enjoyed the five spice and curry brisket banh mis, though compared to more traditional spots, these are significantly more expensive. Still tasty, however.

Yelp
As a Viet and pescatarian girly, it's hard to find banh mi options. Banh Mi Station has one of my favorite banh mi -- Buffalo chik'n, and I'm not even mad it's a fusion flavor. The baos are also absolutely delicious and always come out fresh -- especially the soft shell crab one. Takeout or dine-in, the food is always great. Service is always quick and easy. It's always nice and clean inside and I like that there's options to self-checkout or order with the person at the counter.
google avatar

Catherine N.

Yelp
I wish I took photos but I ate so quickly. Firstly, I am Vietnamese AND I lived in Houston for 10 years so my expectations for Asian food is very high. I was in the area for a conference and wanted Asian food and the baos were calling my name. I don't know of any restaurants that have these type of bao buns. I ordered the soft shell crab bao and the pork belly bun and OMG!!! So so so good!!! Well prepared and tasted delicious. It's counter service so you order and they bring it out to you. I highly recommend you give them a chance!!!
google avatar

Amy F.

Yelp
Got the Bao Trio: soft shell crab, chili tofu, and edamame falafel. The chili tofu was fantastic! I wish I got more of this one. The edamame falafel was more on the mushier side so eating the bao just felt like one big mush. I didn't realize this when I ordered the crab, but its basically a whole fried crab nestled within the bao, which kinda freaked me out so I ended up giving it to my dad haha. He said it was good! For vegetarians, I would go for the chili tofu, that one was really good.
google avatar

Nina D.

Yelp
This was delicious and perfect as a quick to-go lunch. I got the coconut brisket sandwich and gobbled it up so quickly. The coconut flavor was perfect and fit so well with the toppings and crunch baguette. I only wish they'd added more veggies and lettuce as it was a lot of meat relative to other toppings. Also great portion size considering the price! Other than that, service was super quick and everyone was friendly. Will definitely be coming back for more!

Yelp
Thinking of your normal banh mi stations, this is not it. This is unique in its own way with a mini menu selection that can satisfy your appetite. Everyone enjoyed it, flavors were fulfilling and others saw it more of a snack than a meal since it did not serve up their appetite. Staff was quick with order but not well received with questions. We were more directed to look at the menu vs to being told what was good or not as far as for recommendations. Interior is small, makes good for a quick brunch or lunch meet up location. I would recommend to others to give it a try and decide for theirselves. It was our first try and probably won't be the last time we try Banh Mi Station.
google avatar

Maeleth C.

Yelp
Ahhhh!!!!! What a successful banh mi excursion. The bread was the perfect level of crunch and the buffalo unchicken was so juicy with the perfect buffalo sauce flavor. There's not much else to say, they had quick and prompt service, and the establishment had a cute, modern aesthetic.

Yelp
I visited Banh Mi station for the first time this weekend. I used the self-check out computer to order the Viet Fries and the Brisket Banh Mi Sandwich. The Viet Fries were excellent--hot, fresh and well seasoned. However, the Brisket Banh Mi was disappointing, especially considering the focus of the restaurant and the price. The brisket was flavorless and the sandwich was dry. I'm not sure if I would try this place again or recommend it to others.
google avatar

Destini R.

Yelp
Great customer service. Once I was running behind picking up my order and they stayed past closing waiting for me to pick up my order. One word: DELICIOUS! I love extra reddish as well.
google avatar

Yelp
This is really a 3.8 out of 5. Beer was lovely. Little thick but ... anyways. Fries were pretty good just needed salt. I would have appreciated 4x the amount of dipping sauce. Egg roll outer shell was too think and the inside was mush with no flavor. Lots of hope for them but not worth 3 bucks. The bao was good itself. Just a little simple. Pork was sticky and tasty. Overall I would eat here again however, it makes me sad knowing that my grandma would have done amazing with a restaurant like this and I feel like they may be trying to Americanize this idea too much to appease to people instead of letting that beautiful Vietnamese culture and flavor run wild.
google avatar

Ericka C.

Yelp
Excellent place, clean fresh food and done at order. I highly recommend this place. The service is amazing cashier is super nice and friendly.
google avatar

Yelp
We ordered take-our and tried their traditional cold meat Banh Mi, a buffalo chicken Bahn Mi, the pork belly bao bun, and the shrimp bao bun. It was all absolutely delicious. We ate it so fast I forgot to snap photos!

Lillian H.

Yelp
Delicious bao buns and Banh mi's ! The service is nice too. Great place to quality quick bite. The Banh mi's are pretty large! Enough for 2 if you're not super hungry.

Yelp
After a full day of exploring the fine city of Dallas, we were tired and hungry. My lovely wife searched Yelp for something to catch her eye. That something was Banh Mi Station. We found the place easy enough thanks to google maps. Got a parking spot right outside the restaurant. We got here before their dinner rush so there was absolutely no other customers when we arrived. We ordered two items to share at our hotel. Did not feel like eating our dinner at their place. Their dining establishment was clean and orderly, though. This is what we shared: Five Spice Pork Belly with two fried eggs. This banh mi sandwich was pretty good. It was packed with goodness. For myself, I think that I would have preferred it without the two fried eggs. Not the best kind of banh mi sandwich I've eaten, but not bad either. Baos Trio with soft shell crab was also packed with ingredients. I thought that all those ingredients combined to make a pretty darn good bao concoction. Banh Mi Station is a good lunch or dinner option when you find yourself in the Dallas, Texas area.
google avatar

Regina G.

Yelp
While the service was great the food was just okay and very grease I got the soft shell crab bao bun, spring rolls, and the pork belly Banh mi sandwich. The bao bun was very messy and greasy. The crab was fried and a good size. The spring rolls also greasy and I wasn't a fan of the sauce that came with it I only ate one and threw the other one away. The sandwich was the best part pork was tender. Probably won't go back.

Yelp
Very Simply Put...Freaking Awesome! 5-Spice Pork Belly Banh Mi was everything you could want/imagine...Get your ass in your car, on your Harley, on your 10-speed or just run down here- don't wait, now!!!

Yelp
This place is so nice and clean. The staff is very welcoming and they had a self order station with pictures!! I also didn't want that long either for my food to come out. Maybe 8 minutes? Super fast and everything piping hot! The Banh mi was my favorite out of everything. It was packed with chicken and veggies, which was delicious. Pickled carrots&dikon radish, cucumbers, jalapeños and cilantro tasted so fresh! The temp fries were okay, sweet and nutty. I really didn't like how soggy the fries got from the sauce. Just wasn't for me. Curry Mac and cheese was super good! It was so gooey with a nice little kick. Trio bao was freaking awesome. I loved that they had this as option so I could try different baos! I had never had soft shell crab before and it was so good and crispy! I do wish it wasn't smothered in the spicy mayo I felt like it was little over powering the crab. The panko fish was crispy and flaky. Definitely a good piece of fish! My favorite was the Vietuckey fried chicken, I did not expect it to taste so good and to be so juicy! It was perfectly cooked and crispy. Definitely give this place a try!

Yelp
This restaurant is a bit tough to find - look for the big A. It is so clean and beyond delish! Come in asap. For 2 of us we ordered the following & were stuffed / so pleased! - Brisket Banh Mi - Bao Bun trio (crab / pork belly / chicken) The server recommended the fries but was kind enough to warn us that it would be too much food. I guess we have to come tomorrow to try them out. Support this local business - it is exceptional!
google avatar

Catrina L.

Yelp
The bread was very soft, however, the "crab" banh mi lacks flavor and the pickle lacks tartness. I also wish they offered sriracha. Our favorite was the fries, it was seasoned and cooked to perfection. Place is super clean! I like the menu selection but it just lacks flavor.
google avatar

Gustavo R.

Yelp
Delicious bao buns, decent Bahn mi (will come back to try others), & plenty of options! I absolutely loved the Vietfried Chicken Bao bun! The fixings were delicious and complimented the chicken well. The bun itself was soft and fluffy! 8/10! The Bahn Mi was decent. I'd give this one a 5.8/10 - as I've had many better options for cheaper. I will be back and try the duck confit Bahn mi!
google avatar

Jenna H.

Yelp
Wow!! SOOoooo delicious!! The banh mi bread is crunchy on the outside and soft in the inside, meat is perfectly flavored, and the bao buns have the texture of a soft cloud my 5 year old daughter loves the soft shell crab bao bun and my favorite so far is the edamame falafel bao bun. We are planning on making this a Sunday ritual!
google avatar

Shaina C.

Yelp
I like the curry Mac n cheese and the sriracha fries. I've tried the fried chicken bao and pork one and they were okay. Wasn't crazy about them. Pretty speedy service and kind staff.
google avatar

Daniela T.

Yelp
Quiet place on Sylvan Ave. The employees are nice and quick to help you out. I recommend the Grilled Lemongrass chicken bahn mi. Very filling and savory. Hope to come here again.
google avatar

Laura P.

Yelp
Great place for Vietnamese fusion - 100% will be back!! Our banh mi were perfect in every way - crunchy French bread that was baked that day, delicious meat, perfectly cooked eggs, delicious toppings. One of the best banh mi restaurants in Dallas, and worth the drive from Garland. 5 Amazing Banh Mi stars
google avatar

Therral L.

Yelp
The food was good but the experience was mid. I was a bit hesitant because it was dead when I walked in on a Saturday and that's not good walking into a dead restaurant on a busy day for people out chilling and shopping. The cashier was nice I got my food the pork slices sandwich was the one I settled on. At first bite I was greeted with all the flavors of pickled veggies mixed with the toasty bread followed by the juicy pork flavor to end the bite. It was a good sandwich.
google avatar

Son L.

Yelp
This place is a gem! Was craving a Banh Mi sandwich and decided to give this place a try based on a friend's recommendation. It exceeded my expectations. I had the Five Spice Pork Belly Banh Mi with a side of Sriracha fries. I have zero regrets, 10 out of 10. Service was good, prices were as expected, portion sizes were generous. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Steve S.

Yelp
We dined here for the first time today, and loved it: Environment: bright open space, fully automated ordering, nice clean restrooms Service: lacking with the fully automated ordering, but you can easily get anything you need after that by wandering up to the counter and flagging someone down Food: Excellent banh mi sammies- we got a duck confit pork and a pork belly, and loved them both. We needed to ask for sriracha and sliced jalapenos, provided quickly with a smile.
google avatar

Jenny H.

Yelp
Western-inspired bahn mi shop in this chill plaza. Order ahead for takeout or dine in. Super clean and cozy and new vibes. \\ bahn mi \\ five-spice pork belly - rich fatty soft pork sandwiched in a fresh baguette with a perfect crust and soft interior - the daikon and carrots help cut through the grease - love the five-spice flavor--tasty without being overpowering Also a variety of beverages including some local Bishop cider.
google avatar

Katina J.

Yelp
It was different...pricey(but it's Dallas...right). The sandwiches were ok, but I honestly felt they were a bit overpriced. Flavors were a medley, my favorite was the Brisket Fries and canned Thai Tea. I love almost anything with potato. My hubby wasn't impressed with his Banh Mi - duck confit.
google avatar

Eli T.

Yelp
The smoked salmon bao was good, I just wish it was hot as salty as it was. The curry mac also lacked flavor.
google avatar

TJ N.

Yelp
Yes. Finally a banh mi with many dietary particulars in mind. I had the Buffalo 'Chkn' sammie - the bread was superb (very important), the contents were savory and had that vinegary bite, the veggies were crisp, the seasonings and sauces on point. And there were more than one choice for me! Oh, the siracha fries, to live for! The portion size is spot on, please do not change that! I had one of the bao buns, it was also good. The guy at the counter was cool. Complements to the chef + owners! I'll definitely be back when in Dallas.

Andrea A.

Yelp
This place has a very nice atmosphere with good sunlight and attentive staff. My fiancé and I shared the Lemongrass chicken and the Buffalo Un-chicken banh-mi. Both were great and so was the Red curry mac and cheese, which was more flavorful than cheesy to me. I could've shown the full Banh-mis but it looked so good, I couldn't stop myself from eating it right away! Definitely check this place out.
google avatar

Chiquitta J.

Yelp
Enjoyed the Trio Bao Buns (Pork Belly, Soft Shell Crab, Chicken, and Fish) and Pork Fries. The Pork Belly was my favorite Bao Bun. Chicken, Fish, and even the SoftShell Crab could possibly be from a box. Not bad, but also not the Best I've ever had...The Fries were my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE and will be the reason for my return trip.
google avatar

Peyton M.

Yelp
Friendly staff, quick kitchen, large portions, and great food! Their lunch deal of a banh mi + a side was perfect. I got pork belly and sriracha fries, and my dad got brisket in coconut curry with spring rolls. The veggies tasted so fresh, and the pork belly was delicious. My dad liked his too - his first banh mi! The sandwich was huge, so I have awesome leftovers. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Wesley T.

Yelp
Service was excellent. I ordered the brisket banh mi with coconut curry, kale salad as a side, and also some Viet fries. The banh mi + the side was a lunch special which is a good deal. They actually made the duck banh mi accidentally but made the brisket banh mi at no charge once they realized the mistake. It was actually them who thought they made a mistake first and came to our table and ask if they made the right one. The banh mi itself was good. The duck tasted fine and the sauce they used had the same kind of texture and taste as a Pate which they normally put on banh mi, but it wasn't that. The brisket one was great. The curry served to make the flavor more spicy and moist rather than make it sweet which is great since the pickled vegetables are supposed to add to the sweetness anyways. The same brisket goes into the fries and it is topped off with some BBQ sauce. The fries themselves were crispy and just how I like them. I very much appreciated the service. Otherwise, I wouldn't have given them the extra star.

Yelp
We came here to try their bao bun because they looked so amazing. I first noticed this place because they have a "Bao Trio" deal where you can pick 3 of their bao buns fo $12.95 ... but then I think they charged extra for the soft shell crab bun. It's not a super amazing deal but it's exciting because you can easily convince yourself to get 3 buns and not feel guilty. We got soft shell, vietucky, and pork belly bao buns. I'm not familiar with the Vietnamese bao bun but it reminds me of the famous Taiwanese Gua Bao, but their ingredients are similar to banh mi ingredients. (Carrot, daikon, cilantro...). So imagine eating banh mi but instead of baguette it's soft steamed bao bun. They were all very tasty - the soft shell crab was my favorite. I forgot how much extra they charge if you got it with the trio bun. This place is so good and we don't have to wait long for our food at all. I'm excited to come back and try their banh mi next time! I'm sure it'll be amazing too.
google avatar

Cheryl B.

Yelp
Yes! We finally had time to stop at Banh Mi!! I will have to say I was disappointed as there wasn't much authentic about the Chicken and Lemongrass at least I didn't think so. The heat was non-existent, the carrots not pickled, Dixon, I couldn't detect, and while the bread was good, not authentic. I'll try something else next time but my expectations will not be high but hopeful to be surprised.

Tiffany R.

Yelp
This is a little gem,... I don't even live here in Texas and this place was so accommodating. They accommodated almost 40 people for my birthday and pretty much shut down the whole restaurant. Then the food was absolutely amazing and it was a really chill and great vibe and I just really appreciated everything they did for our party. I love the ordering at the counter and then sitting down! You guys Rock!! Thank you for a great experience!!

Yelp
Meh. That's about all I can say. I've been spoiled on the really good Bánh Mi's we have down in Houston. These, along with the fish Bao, missed the mark. I was most intrigued by the duck and jack fruit Bánh mi's so when when they didn't have much flavor it was a bit of a let down. The jackfruit wasn't present at all. I pulled two different balls apart and couldn't find any jackfruit. It just tasted like breading and whatever spices were used didn't really mesh well with the pickled veggies. The duck also only had the duck flavor, no spices to be found or any flavor enhancement. It also didn't mesh well with the pickled veggies. Both sandwhiches just fell flat. And the fish Bao was also meh. It tasted like a fish stick that got stuck in a Bao with some pickled veggies and some sauce. Again, nothing impressive or flavorful. The service was good but the flavors... I'm sorry but not impressive enough for us to come back.
