The Best Banh Mi in Seattle | Eater Seattle

"In addition to traditional banh mi like grilled pork, tofu, and dac biet (“pork special” with layers of porky cold cuts and pate), this Greenwood shop offers a couple of sandwiches with modern twists. One has corned beef that’s dipped in pho broth and then grilled, while the “phap” is a French chicken sandwich in which the chicken is braised in soy sauce and butter, then topped with grilled sweet onions, jalapenos, cilantro, and melted mozzarella cheese." - Jay Friedman

The Best Vietnamese Food in Seattle for Takeout and Delivery | Eater Seattle

"Greenwood’s Banh Town is a treasure trove of Vietnamese flavors, and its mix of classic sandwiches, like a delectable five-spice lemongrass pork option, and modern twists, including a corned beef version dipped in pho broth, is no exception. Available for takeout or delivery via DoorDash and Postmates." - Gabe Guarente

Google
Essential Seattle restaurant. Without this spot I would go hungry and be sad. I think about their pho daily and get it at least once a week. The bahn mi’s are incredible and are easy to take as a camping snack, baseball meal or for the next day!! The service is always incredible and the vibes inside are immaculate. Literally my favorite restaurant in Greenwood!! Prices are great and you get a discount if you pay with cash! Only thing I would change is adding a beer to the menu Some photos were taken not at the restaurant but as a take out and eaten elsewhere!

Google
I had the grilled pork. The food was okay overall, but I do wish the pork had been grilled a bit longer for more flavor and texture. That said, the staff were very nice and welcoming, which made the experience more enjoyable. It’s a decent spot if you’re in the area, but there’s room for improvement in the food preparation.

Google
Nearly 100 Bahn mi in 2 years. Some days I’ve gotten two. 95% of them have been the 5-spice chicken Bahn mi, the other 5% beef. Everybody who works here is so kind!! Prices are so fair for Seattle too. Not much more to say. I wouldn’t eat here so often if it wasn’t one of my favorite food places in greenwood

Google
We went here for lunch on a Saturday. It wasn't too busy and there was empty seats. The place is busy and has lots of people ordering To-gos! Service was very good, and the hostess was very kind, making sure everything is good and that we have all that we need. We ordered 3 items and one drink, and they were all great. We tried the dry noodle dish, roast duck with curry fried rice, and the special pork banh mi. They were all pretty good. I would recommend ordering the duck if you have time to get your hands dirty and nibble on it. If you are looking for a quick meal, all the other ones are better option. The space is small but pretty chilly, so wear layers if you are going here in the winter. Prices are fair for the amount of food you are getting!

Google
What a wonderful place! We rolled in randomly, looking for some hot & spicy food to fill our road trip-hungry bellies and soothe my sore throat. The Beef Phò bò (steak option) spoke to both my daughter and me, and we ended up ordering the same item. It was absolutely perfect - exactly what we were looking for. Soothing and flavorful broth, tender steak, fresh veg, and noodles that were the perfect texture. Served with sprouts, basil, and citrus on the side, and all the sriracha I could stand. The Regular size was more than we could finish, but the Large is only a dollar more! Also, Linda served us with a beautiful smile and friendly banter. We enjoyed some lovely conversation with her when we were all done eating. She was terrific!

Google
Waitress is very attentive and she asks us if we need any more bean sprouts. This never happened in any pho restaurant. The beef broth is good, a little on the sweet side. There are plenty of noodle but meat portion is less than average.

Google
Been here twice this week. The broth is excellent. Maybe the best I've had in the area. I'll be back for sure. I like to order the combo with extra meat.

Yelp
gotta love good homestyle vietnamese food, that's exactly what you'll get here! we ordered chau's dirty rice, classic pho ga and spring rolls you can tell a lot of love was put into these dishes, always a great experience every day is a perfect day for pho when dining at banh town!

Yelp
Food was mostly great. My issue is a couple other things. I ordered the Lemongrass chicken curry. This comes with salad, vermicelli noodles, and some mini spring rolls. When I order the food. The guy and I cannot communicate. He knew the food item when I asked for it, but I then asked him how many stars they offer, (for spiciness. He kept saying 1 star. Then we went back and forth trying to communicate about what he was trying to say. Finally I said, "You only offer 1 star"? Then he said, 'No, and more talk about stars.' At some point I literally said, "I'm sorry I cannot understand you" Then we somehow settled on that I can ask for 1-5 stars. Good grief... Then he handed me my food. I went to the car. And of course, no silverware, no napkin, nothing. I go back inside to request utensils. Then I get to my dinner, and there is no salad dressing. If you look at the pic. The serving tray has 4 items. The smallest portion of item... is the main entry, the curry. There is a huge portion of plain noodles, and large salad, 4 total small spring rolls, but hardly any of the curry. I won't be beck. $20.00 for $7.00 worth of food. Edit: forgot to mention, he screwed up the credit card transaction, and had to do it twice.

Yelp
Food 10/10 Service 10/10 Ambiance 7/10 I would say this pho is not pure authentic Vietnamese and is slightly westernized. Maybe even a bit Asian fusion. So if you are looking for purely authentic pho, then maybe this place is not for you. But if u r just looking for tasty food, this is definitely good. Food is Amazing. Ingredients tasted super fresh and yummy. -Quail Poppers were so amazing. It's a quail egg wrapped in chicken meat and then deep fried to perfection. The sauce was also to die for! A nice sweet chili sauce. -Spring Rolls (are actually salad rolls) had nice fresh ingredients - Curry lemongrass chicken is perfectly grilled and seasoned. A beautiful lemongrass chicken with a mild curry and sweet honey taste to it. It came with some fresh vegetables and egg rolls. Their egg rolls weren't anything special. They just tasted like your typical frozen egg rolls you can buy at a grocery store. But everything else was def unique and tasted amazing! -Roasted Duck is very juicy and was very mildly seasoned with what I think is salt as the duck flavour was very prominent and delicious. Only complaint is that there is ALOT of bones and you do feel like u gotta work for ur meat but it is 100% worth it!! (And bones are common in Asian cuisine) The curry fired rice tasted like they infused homemade or fresh garlic powder and it is also super yummy. -OxTail Pho. The Oxtail is suppperrr tender and cooked to perfection. Very yummy broth. However I am unsure whether the broth is authentic as it tastes slightly different from the broth I have had at authentic places. But it was still extremely yummy. -Bubble Tea was very good. Tasted like they used Coconut Milk. I normally don't like coconut milk too much but it actually complimented the drink very nicely! So I would 100% recommend the bubble tea to. Service was 10/10. We were greeted by this super cute and friendly young asian woman who was constantly checking on us to make sure the food was okay and even gave us TONS of water. We never had to ask for her to refill or check on anything because she was already just on top of it and was super sweet. She even told us to let her know if we wanted more ice for our drinks or milk. She was just absolutely adorable and kind! Ambiance 7/10 The furniture and the environment in general seemed a bit outdated but it was clean and that's what matters!! It was also a fairly small place with only maybe 5 tables. But no complaints as we were seated and looked after right away. Overall I highly recommend this place as I do think of it as a bit of a hidden gem as their food was so amazing! (However I wish they included more vegetables with each dish)

Yelp
Excellent Vietnamese food. I had the Pahd Thai with shrimp. Great flavor, the noodles were perfect. A star off because of no vegetables except for one tiny slice of zucchini. I got 8 shrimp and because they left the tails on (you definitely do not want to swallow those) I cannot give my top rating. I received a small salad and some large wontons, and I also ordered the Vietnamese coffee which is better than Starbucks at $6 after tax. Rich and creamy with strong, but not to strong, coffee flavor. Normally, with either salads or cooked international dishes having shrimp, it is always better to peel and devain the shrimp entirely for safety and flavor. The only place tails on belong on a shrimp is a shrimp/prawn cocktail. In spite of that shortcoming, I will be back. Most dishes are $17.95 not including tax. Very close family run, and the owner, manager is very polite. To say "thank you" in Vietnamese, you say, Cảm ơn~ (Kam-unh!) (I can speak some 27 languages that way). I love international communications, since we are all God's children on this earth, and I am not ashamed to say it. to say "Your Welcome," you would say, Không có gì! (Kong-cow-gee)!

Yelp
Devoured their chicken sandwich for lunch so quickly because it was so delicious! Very fast service and good price. Discount if you pay in cash! The staff was very kind, too

Yelp
Went and visited Banh Town the other night. I hate to say it but this was definitely one of the worst dining experiences I've had in a while. My partner and I sat down and weren't even greeted for like 15 minutes. When our server finally came to deliver our food his thumb was INSIDE my pho broth. While we were eating, the restaurant's door dash beeper was ringing non stop for the entire time we were eating. Not pleasant. All they had to do was tap it and it'd stop! After our meal I paid for an INCREDIBLY PRICEY meal for what it was. And to make matters worse the server was staring at me putting in my tip. I always hate that. Won't be back.

Yelp
Do you ever just walk into a place and immediately love the way it smells? This place has that char barbecue smell that you can tell is authentic and fresh. Friendly, friendly service and very very good music
google avatar

John M.

Yelp
Excellent Banh Mi. It was juicy and just had a wonderful taste. May be the best Banh Mi I have every had. The service was friendly and unassuming.
google avatar

Lana S.

Yelp
I've come here for years due to convenience factor when I'm in the mood for some noodles or a banh mi. It's not my favorite banh mi or pho but I enjoy it well enough. I got a tofu vermicelli bowl the other day, which was mostly fine. But the cucumbers in the salad were horrible. Tasted like bleach, I don't know what was up with those veggies but they left a terrible taste in my mouth. It was weird. I've never eaten inside but the employees have always been friendly enough when I pick up.
google avatar

Jeff W.

Yelp
They're finally open for dining! Clean and kind service. Ingredients were fresh and visually appealing and in general just solid Vietnamese in the area. Parking lot is hit or miss, super tiny and not easy street parking in the area. We're lucky to have a lot of excellent Vietnamese in the area and this place is right up there.

Yelp
I'm so bummed. I don't know what happened to my favorite banh mi sandwich location, but I'm super disappointed. It was drenched in some sort of sweet sauce, the bread didn't have that amazing fresh french baguette crunch on the outside and soft inside...it was loaded with cilantro almost to make up for the lack of veggies. The spring roll was also horrible. I kind of want to cry. The veggies were missing from the roll, it was mostly cabbage or some kind of iceburg lettuce maybe? I'm so unhappy. What happened? The place looked really shopworn, lots of handwritten signs like "10% discount if you pay in cash" and there were messages on the door saying "Heavy Door" written in perm marker. What happened? Did this place get bought by someone new? New management or new chef or all of the above? I'm really sad because I would go to this place at least once a month. My order was over $25 so the prices went up too. I won't be back.

Yelp
i ordered a pork bahn mi togo. the bun was super soft. the meat was really flavorful and saucy and they really packed the meat in the sandwich. there was barely any veggies but it was still really good. fast and quick service!

Anne F.

Yelp
Delicious banh mi chicken! The bun was perfect and we liked the spices and veggies that went with the chicken. The young woman at the register was polite and anticipated what we needed. The only hard part is figuring out how to get into the parking lot . Now we know!

Bubus J.

Yelp
Group of friends did a blind taste test of 6 banh mi places across Seattle, most of which show up on those best-of lists. Banh Town was considered the worst by most of the friends, citing the terrible bread and the overly sweet, almost teriyaki-like flavored meat. Of the Dac Biet-type banh mis, Banh Town also scored poorly, with detractors citing the lack of balance between the meat and veg portions (almost all meat, little veg). FYI Yeh Yeh's and Saigon Deli (in Int'l district) scored the highest for the grilled pork style of banh mi.
google avatar

Gina L.

Yelp
Ordered a few banh mis and oxtail pho to-go. waited around 20 min (visit the fruit store across the street to kill time). We got the tofu, grilled pork, and 5-spice chicken banh mis, which were all quite sizable. I enjoyed the grilled pork, and my sister enjoyed the 5-spice chicken, although I wasn't a big fan of the latter. The bread was great and the sandwich itself was sizable. However, my biggest gripe was the radish/carrots were not very pickled. I love the pickled flavor to add contrast and crunch, but it just wasn't there. As for the oxtail pho, it tasted just like bone broth soup. I was looking forward to some pho flavors while I gnawed on the bones, but was met with none. If I'm back, will likely get the grilled pork banh mi, but skip on the other items.
google avatar

David F.

Yelp
I was craving banh mi and decided to try Banh Town. I had the pork special banh mi with a fried egg. It was excellent! All of the meats were unctuous and tasty. A bit of pickled carrots and daikon radish with cilantro cut through the rich meats. There was some special mayo-based sauce at the bottom that I wish had been spread around a bit more on the roll. The fried egg was the kicker; it made the sandwich that much more rich. The roll was tender and flaky in all the right ways. The young woman who was running the front of the house was kind and gracious. I was curious to see how many folks ordered take-out. I was the only one to eat there.

Marina S.

Yelp
Just had lunch at the place ordering chicken and pork vermicelli. While meat was tender and tasty the rest was very plain even with souse that came with. Probably wouldn't go there again. Too pricey for the taste.
google avatar

J T.

Yelp
The rice has a deliciously unique taste to it. Dont really know how to explain it but it was tasty. Try it for yourself. Banh mi and grilled meat is good too but expensive compared to other places. The owners wife and husband chat with me a little. They've been here 10yrs and she's the only cook.
google avatar

Tanya O.

Yelp
Delivery via UberEATS because my family is sick. Opened the bag and found a hair. Mint is old and rolls have mold. I'll let the photos speak for themselves. Never again.
google avatar

Madison T.

Yelp
Grilled pork Bahn Mi was juicy, seasoned perfectly with great flavor, and good portion size. Very friendly service, a perfect quick stop for authentic street food!
google avatar

Nicole G.

Yelp
Good service and staff is nice! The sandwich's are amazing! I do not recommend the $10 spring rolls. Did not care for the meat, and the lettuce/cabbage mix was odd. Not what I am used to.
google avatar

Chris V.

Yelp
Friendly staff! Had the beef pho with 4 different types of beef and it was hearty and delicious. I would have skipped on the cut up meat balls if I had the opportunity to do it over again. Food was savory and amazing, the viet coffee was just OK and completely destroyed my stomach and hour later (fighting for my life in a public restroom later in the day). Still a great hole in the wall joint.
google avatar

Darrin C.

Yelp
No complaints seems relatively authentic and always prepared well especially the bahn mi

Yelp
I went to Banh Town this week for my second visit, and have been pleased with the food both times I've been. Each time, I've gotten a sandwich (obviously that's their focus, I mean the place is called Banh Town right?). The first time I got the grilled pork, and it was pretty dang good, but had a couple of fatty bits that I wasn't too fond of. This time I got the 5-spice chicken, and it was excellent! This will be my go-to now for sure. Their baguettes are right on the money, with a crunchy, crumbly crust, but nice and soft inside. They include a really nice balance of meat, cucumbers, cilantro, and pickled veggies, plus jalapeños (a must on a proper banh mi). The chicken was really well spiced, and nice and tender. They also include a touch of pate on their sandwiches, which really pulls the whole thing together. So yummy! Unfortunately, ordering my sandwich was a bit of a challenge. Their menu is not accessible anywhere on their website (at least not on my mobile device), so I had to rely on images of it on Google. I didn't want to use DoorDash because it costs me more and the restaurant gets paid less, so I tried calling them directly several times, only to get a Verizon busy message. I was close by anyway, so I just went and ordered in person, and they said that their phone had not been occupied. They really need to figure this out because I guarantee they've lost potential customers who aren't going to jump through all those hoops, no matter how tasty a sandwich awaits on the other side! If you face the same situation, I'd urge you to just go order in person - my sandwich was ready in about 5 minutes, and was well worth the wait.
google avatar

Gary C.

Yelp
Well this place used to be our favorite but we recently had a bad experience (see photo). We tried to contact them through door dash and received no responce. Regardless it's going to be a long time before we can eat pho from anywhere again.
google avatar

Rahim K.

Yelp
Not a pho guy but heard this place was better than the rest so gave it a try. I will say, it wasn't bad and I did enjoy the quick service, not much room in there for sit-down but the ambiance was very cultural and added to the sense of assurance that it will be good. The pho itself was better than I've ever had, though I had to make some tweaks to the actual recipe and offering ot make it more spicy and flavorful.
google avatar

Lily D.

Yelp
Hits the spot for a banh mi craving. The bread is done really well, perfect amount of bounce, softness, and crunch. This is also one of the better tofu banh mis I've had as they season and sauce it well. Employees are also attentive and kind!

Robert W.

Yelp
Good food, good prices, nice staff. A solid place to go for these traditional Vietnamese sandwiches, plus more.
google avatar

Alyson M.

Yelp
Amazing find! A north Seattle treasure. in the mood for veggie pho for lunch, and they were open. Lovely people, service was great!

O C.

Yelp
Great Vietnamese sandwiches, ordered pickup and it was ready as promised, staff was pleasant and welcoming
google avatar

Thomas T.

Yelp
I ordered a regular sized dac biet and wings. Don't have pics for the wings because friend knocked it over the moment it was served, and just looked too messy to show. Anyway - pho was just okay compared to other spots around, although they added pepper on top, which was a first time for me. Meat and noodle were good, although the broth could certainly have been richer. The wings were terrible though - their batter is light and greasy, very different from the typical American style. If anything, it may have a sense of similarity to Korean wings. However, it's flavorless, dry, extremely greasy, and the sauce it came with was clearly oil-based and was falling apart when it was served. If you want a bowl of pho, there's no reason for you to avoid this place, but there are certainly better ones out there.
google avatar

Bonnie G.

Yelp
Lots of meat in the sandwich, and a tasty sauce. I wasn't crazy about the 5 spice seasoning, though some may love it. Nice crusty roll. I would have liked more veg. Nice service, though only takeout now.
google avatar

Lianne F.

Yelp
While visiting family in Seattle, we got take out from Banh Town. We ordered Pho, beef stew, Banh mi, and Chau wings chicken. The Stew was delicious with large chunks of beef and very savory. Pho had a decent amount of meats and the broth had depth but swayed to the sweeter side. The add-ins of bean sprout, basil and lime was plentiful. The pork Banh Mi was amazing and filling was overflowing, and had the right amount of kick. Chicken wings came with a honey sriracha sauce that complimented the chicken. The owner was very friendly and gracious. They give a 10% discount for paying in cash. I recommend this place if you are looking for a delicious meal.

PhiYen W.

Yelp
Great service, delicious food that my family likes. Especially, my 9 yrs old daughter, picky eater really enjoyed her smoothie and phở, she wants come back again when we back in town. Thank you for your delicious food
google avatar

Julie S.

Yelp
Banh town hits it out of the park every time. A friend introduced me to banh town a few years ago and I had forgotten the name, so I hadn't been back.. I stumbled upon banh town again a few weeks ago and I've been here a handful of times since. Definitely some of the best Vietnamese food in Seattle. The pho is super flavorful, great portion sizes, just delicious. I've tried the fried chicken wings, egg rolls, vermicelli bowl, and banh mi, and it's all delicious. My only suggestion would be for them to serve more fish sauce with the vermicelli bowl. Overall, so good!! I miss being able to dine in, because it definitely adds to the experience. The staff is super nice and it's a cute atmosphere. Looking forward to being able to dine in again and bring my friends here!
google avatar

Aayushi B.

Yelp
We were on a hurry and wanted to try Spring rolls, I am a spring roll fanatic. It was just perfect. The peanut sauce with toppings, the additional chili oils, freshness of the veggies. I will come back here to try the Pho and Banh Mi. This place was super busy for takeouts and the service is so good. Definitely recommend dine-in, you will be transported to Vietnam.

Matthew M.

Yelp
Had lunch here with my daughter for the first time. I started with the egg rolls which were good and then got the French chicken Bahn Mi which was great. Soft bread and great flavor. They have kids sizes of Pho which was perfect for my daughter. She loved the noodles.Great overall experience.
google avatar

Elizabeth M.

Yelp
Wow, I'm disappointed because I used to love Bahn Town. After not having it in a couple years I ordered pho for dinner tonight (delivered by Grubhub). Most pho places offer a whole side pack of toppings like Thai basil, jalapeños, cilantro onions, and sprouts along with sauces. Apparently Bahn Town doesn't offer this?! Just a tiny pinch of scallions and herbs in the side of the main container - no basil or sauces. My husband and I were shocked and disappointed. Furthermore I recall in the past being impressed they had fresh and varied vegetables so I chose to add "seasonal veggies" to my pho. Nope, now it's just broccoli and flavorless carrots, no bok Choy or anything else. The broth is still good so that was reassuring. I don't know that we'll be back anytime soon.
google avatar

ALEXANDRA L.

Yelp
Got beef and chicken pho to go. Broth was a little cold y the time we ate, so my guess is superior on site. Had great packs of sprouts, basil, lime, cilantro and kept chicken and rice noodles separate so they held up well. My only tip would be to reheat broth at home before eating next time. User error.

Michelle F.

Yelp
Just ordered, picked up food, came home the chicken was raw. I mean RAW, not cooked. Not going back.
google avatar

Karen D.

Yelp
Can't recommend this place. Chicken pho was pretty flavorless, I added hoisin and sriracha and that helped but the chicken and noodles were cold and the broth was only like warm. The insides of the egg rolls were mushy and the chicken wings were not good, flavorless and mostly breading.
google avatar

Cris L.

Yelp
Came here for lunch. The 5 spice chicken banh mi was super flavorful and juicy. the bread was really good and crunchy. The egg rolls were cripsy and delicious too. Overall a great lunch spot with affordable sandwiches and I plan to return!

Duy T.

Yelp
Absolutely love this place! Xa xiu and tofu dirty rice plates, pork banh mi with Thai tea are my top choices here. Highly recommend

Lisa W.

Yelp
Horrible place , I don't understand how could they have so many good reviews , we were going to Miss Pho , but they were closed on Tuesday , so I found this place near by , we ordered pho and spring rolls , the rolls come first , and I don't like it at all , my husband had a bite and never touched it , their water is not celan as well , ice water have some funny taste , and the server , wearing socks in slippers , I mean you are in food business right ? At least wearing shoes for respect your customers , while we eating he was sneezing nonstop , the food is horrible as well , not eatable at all , I barely touch it and we stayed probably like 5mins I can't wait to pay and leave , in fact I want my refund for this food , never go back , just horrible experience
google avatar

Anais M.

Yelp
This was my first time at a Vietnamese restaurant. I had the chicken curry without peanuts and it was cooked well and was tasty. I was with a group of 12 and the service was good and they had the food done in a time frame expected for our group.
google avatar

Clyde D.

Yelp
So bomb at Banh Town. Fresh as fresh gets. I'll be back here since fall is about to be in full swing
google avatar

Iman A.

Yelp
First bahn mi I've had since college and man I'll tell you this was a great one! The amount of cilantro (for the cilantro lovers out there) was unreal. Aka a lot. My dream bahn mi for sure!! The meat was perfectly sweet also!!! God the spring rolls also. 3/5, but the bahn mi made up for it. I ordered the five spice bahn mi. Would go again for sure.
google avatar

Courtney H.

Yelp
Placed an order through Grubhub without issue. Drove 20 minutes to go pick up, and in the meantime my order was accepted and card charged. Arrived to the store and there was a sign in the window saying closed for the day. Never got my food, and it ended up taking another 45 minutes to order and pickup from another restaurant. Not to mention the time and hassle spent trying to contact Grubhub support for my refund. I know that things are difficult right now, especially with staffing, and I totally get it. I'll never fault a place for unexpectedly closing if there simply weren't enough people to staff it that day. It was just frustrating that nobody took the time to shut down online ordering for the day before locking up. I would be happy to give it another shot maybe someday.
google avatar

Tim O.

Yelp
I've only eaten there once but not sure I will try again. Ordered the lemongrass pork bahn mi sandwiches. The bread was decent, but the sandwich was dull and light on acid from the pickled veggies. The cilantro contribution was muted by the fats in the meat, which were heavily five spiced. The fried chicken wings were interesting as the breading tasted like won ton skins, but the meat didn't taste fresh and was trimmed poorly. The fresh spring rolls had spare/unfresh lettuce and overstuffed with rice noodles.
