"It could be the natural wine, it could be the oysters, or it could be the oh-so powerful heaters, but there is something irresistible about this all-day wine bar with an intimate terrace on Carnaby’s Kingly Street." - jake missing, rianne shlebak

6 Exciting Things To Eat & Do In London Between July 23rd - 25th - London - The Infatuation

"This one screams post-work Friday night feel-good energy to us. Bar Crispin is the latest natural wine bar to appear on the ever-thirsty streets of London with a casual list of 150 bottles. Think small producers, low-intervention, and even some high-end small plates like beef tartare, burrata, and coppa ham. A brand new addition to Kingly Court, they have a limited number of outdoor seats available so for peace of mind, get moving on that booking ASAP." - heidi lauth beasley

Bar Crispin - Review - London - The Infatuation

"We love London. You love London. And your aunt who maintains that she once saw Hugh Grant on the Metropolitan line loves London. But no matter how much you stan this glorious urban sexy cesspit, there’s no denying that other places are much better at creating a great outdoor dining experience. If you have just risen from your chair / bed / expertly-secured seat on the Central line and started shouting ‘HOW DARE YOU, MY LOCAL PUTS OLD JAM JARS OUT AS DECORATIVE ASHTRAYS IN THEIR GARDEN, HAVE SOME RESPECT’, well we hear you. But might we remind you that there are places out there where pavement terraces buzz with life and blankets and interesting stories of the 60s traded over glasses of excellent wine and cigarettes. Enter, stage right and packing burrata, Bar Crispin. This teeny tiny all-day wine bar on Carnaby’s Kingly Street has somehow managed to transport the vivacious rain-or-shine mentality of Parisian terraces to what is effectively a hyped-up alleyway 10 metres behind a Build-A-Bear toy shop. Sidenote: we once witnessed a man in Paris bust open a wine bottle with the heel of his shoe without spilling a single drop and even that was significantly less impressive than what Bar Crispin has achieved here. Every single time we’ve swung by for a merry post-work glass of orange wine or a polite little plate of brown crab toast circa 9pm, their heated terrace has been packed full of happy, undeniably trendy people trading woeful date stories or catching up on work, entirely oblivious to whatever trash weather London is serving up on that particular day. It could be the natural wine, it could be the oysters, or it could be the oh-so powerful heaters, but there is something irresistible about Bar Crispin’s intimate terrace. Yes, even in the winter. photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch The little sister of a larger seasonal restaurant in Spitalfields, it is worth noting that this place does actually have some perfectly nice indoor seating too. We’re talking six high tables suitable for two, or four at a push, with stools and maybe even some significantly more comfortable banquette seating if the posture gods are rooting for you. The seasonal food won’t leave you breathlessly reminiscing about some revolutionary burrata for the next week, but you can expect a comforting small plates experience that will have one glass turning into a bottle. Butter, bread, and cheese, are the safe satisfying buzzwords that should accompany your natural wine order. If you’re yet to jump aboard the ever-hyped metaphorical natural wine train, don’t worry. The servers here will sort you out with expert advice that always feels genuinely helpful rather than a sales pitch for a £120 bottle of something that is ‘magnifique’ for reasons relating to volcanic soil that you definitely don’t understand. Combine all of that with a terrace that feels like the ultimate grown-up al fresco dinner party, and you’ll be a Bar Crispin convert in no time. The menu at Bar Crispin changes regularly but here’s an idea of what you can expect. RESERVE A TABLE WITH RESERVE A TABLE Food Rundown Native Oysters Eating oysters out on a Soho terrace? Who, me? Yup, it’s some oysters and some very nice ones at that. As is traditional, they will make you feel sophisticated. photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch Neal’s Yard Cheese It is a mistake to go to Bar Crispin and not get the cheese platter. A glorious trinity of stinky, creamy, and classic, it's a total no-brainer for catch-ups and cold cosy winter nights. FYI, it’s served with fresh Bermondsey honeycomb, fancy schmancy and totally delicious. Burrata Once again we must thank fancy olive oil for all that she has given us. A delightful rip-and-dip plate of food when combined with their great sourdough from E5 Bakery. photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch Beef Tartare Some nice delicate beef that has been slightly overpowered by sauce. Let the beef have its moment please. Brown Crab Toast Really just quite lovely. The kind of thing you picture yourself eating at home on a blowy Tuesday night, once you become a very famous, very celebrated Pulitzer winner. The trout roe is also a classy touch. photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch" - Heidi Lauth Beasley

Where to Eat Before and After the Theatre in London and the West End | Eater London

"A stone’s throw from the Palladium but distinct from the chaos of Carnaby Street and Kingly Court, the new venture from the team behind Shoreditch’s Crispin is a casually charming spot. The menu ranges confidently from snacks (Neal’s Yard cheeses with Bermondsey honeycomb) to more substantial mains (Welsh lamb with black lime and salsa verde), while sommelier Alex Price has put together a list of 150 low-intervention bottles from small producers. It closes at midnight." - Emma Hughes

Small bar. Nice wine selection although mark up a bit steep. Dish mostly for sharing. I thought they still keep the wine menu around different climate or terroir as a travel book suggested. But anymore.

Delicious food with a delicate balance of taste and texture. Couldn’t stop eating. Natural wine selection was great.

I had seen there was availability to book tables online, so I tried to walk-in thinking there would be space. Staff seemed utterly confused that I wanted to eat there; after discussing amongst themselves offered me one of the (many free) tables outside. I declined as it was lightly raining and people were smoking nearby, I asked if I were to book could I sit inside and was told yes. So I immediately went to the website and booked an available inside table for in 30 minutes time. I arrived back and the staff seemed perturbed that I had returned and seemed confused that I was able to book (as someone who has worked in hospitality, including fine dining, I think staff should have been more aware of their online availability and tables which were/were not reserved), and I was (very hesitantly) offered a seat at the bar. To be honest it felt like for whatever reason, the staff did not want me there. I understand I am a solo diner and did not at all mind sitting at the bar, to avoid taking up a 2 person table. But the offer to sit at the bar very much felt like a ‘if you must you can sit here’. This kind of service just isn’t welcoming and I only stuck around as I really wanted to try the food. Despite this I’m glad I stayed as I have to say the food I tried was delicious. The staff were pleasant enough once I was seated and asked me how each dish was- I just wish I didn’t have the sour taste from my awkward arrival. An additional point is a 13.5% service charge for water is too steep, especially when staff don’t refill empty water glasses. The whole point of a service charge is to receive a service.. which I just didn’t feel I did? Pretty hard to justify when an additional £1 is added for the water.

Had the best birthday lunch at Bar Crispin. Irma was really attentive and helpful. Recommended a great bottle of wine, Mielie and put a candle in my dessert for my birthday which was a really lovely touch. The food was incredible and I can’t wait to come back!

Very nice Friday night experience, reserved a table for 2 and we got brought downstairs to a communal seating but space was cozy enough to talk to a friend. Ordered lamb skewers which were not too gamey, sourdough is a must which was so flakey and soft! Cheese with crackers went really nicely with a bottle of house white. Special thanks to chef who gave us another complimentary plate of crackers since ours fell on the ground 🙂

Food was either unsalted or drowned in Tabasco, masking any real flavor. The croquettes were bland, the crudo completely unseasoned, and the steak tartare overwhelmed by Tabasco. Service could also have been warmer—telling guests in a rush, “you only have 15 minutes left,” and walking away is not the way to treat clients. The same message could have been conveyed more politely. Overall, I expected much more, but it turned out to be a disappointment.

Tried Bar Crispin after a recommendation this week. It’s a little oasis in the heart of Soho, with a very cool and stylish interior, warm welcome from staff and delicious small plates. We shared the burrata, sea bass crudo, cheese croquettes and some fries with aioli - all were tip top. Found the wines per glass pretty spenny, although I tried the house white too, which was very drinkable as well as reasonable. I’d order that again. A fabulous little find, with friendly but unobtrusive service.

Google
I would actually rate this over all a 4.5 - but Google needs to update their star rating ;). I just came here to say that I had the best beef tartare of my life here the other day. Seasoned to perfection. The prawn sando was delicious also, Burrata was decent. Our young waiter (forgive me for not remembering your name) was such a vibe, very charming and made us feel welcome instantly. This is a great place for intimate al fresco dining - venue is small. Dog friendly.
