Boston Legend Lydia Shire Is Taking Over an Italian Restaurant in Harvard Square Bar Enza | Eater Boston

"This hotel-based Italian restaurant has endured its third head-chef turnover since opening in 2021: the debut chef was NYC-based Mark Ladner, a Del Posto alum, who left and returned to New York after 18 months; he was succeeded by Tony Susi, the former chef and owner of now-closed North End favorite Sage. According to a restaurant representative, Susi left to pursue another opportunity—"no word on what that is just yet." As of this weekend Lydia Shire will be permanently taking over the kitchen and plans menu adjustments over the next two weeks so that, by the end of the month, the menu will be fully under her direction (per the rep/press release)." - Erika Adams

Looking for an intimate speakeasy with superb cocktails? Look no further. Once you find the entrance, Bar Enzo transports you into a world of style, hospitality and creativity. The cocktail list is compiled with a variety of different spirits which the bartender is more than happy to explain, or make you something off the books that he thinks will be to your liking. As a group of ladies with all different tastes, they nailed it for all of us. Bar Enzo is newer to the area. If you are going during prime cocktail hour, we recommend making a reservation. They also give artsy postcards with your bill and if you collect enough of a variety you can get a free drink, all the more reason to go back and visit again! IG- Lentz_Explore

Had the Pino and it was incredible - probably one of the best ice blended cocktail I’ve had. The atmosphere was also really nice and our bartender (Gio) was above and beyond. Had been at many bars before in different parts of the world and this low-key place is definitely up there on my list!

Bar Enzo was such a vibe! I love a good speakeasy and I’m so happy this is in Astoria. This is a perfect date night spot. Highly recommend the cheese board. Bex was the bartender and she was super hospitable and friendly. I’ll definitely be going back!

Such a lovely time! We were at the craft beer spot above them and the bartender at Bar Enzo was handing out postcards to “invite” people to the speakeasy. My girlfriend and I decided to swing by and it did not disappoint. The place is a vibe and the bartender (Carter?) actually created a lot of the cocktails on the menu. I ordered the Lambrusco (bc it’s summer and it’s the perfect wine) but after that I got a cocktail - I can’t remember its name but it involved immersion blending grapefruit sorbet into a gin based martini glass. SUCH a great summer cocktail! My girlfriend got the twist on the espresso martini and one other drink. We were both very impressed! Will be back.

Came up to NYC to spend a quick getaway and happened to walk past the door of Bar Enzo. I love a speakeasy and this definitely scratched that itch. Small and very intimate. Excellent drinks. Excellent bartender. Cool history behind the joint. Def would make this a regular spot.

I first visited Bar Enzo a week or two after it opened and instantly fell in love. After raving about it to many friends, I finally returned. It's a bit of a paradox: I want it to remain undiscovered, yet I certainly don't want it to close down! I noticed fake flowers outside the doorway, a new addition since it first opened, as I recall. Though they help guide you to the door, I found them tacky. You wait outside the door until someone opens it, which might not be sustainable if the place gets truly busy. After the door opens, you head upstairs to the second floor. The stairwell is lined with framed photos that visually tell a story of Italian-American hospitality, effectively introducing you to the brand's heritage. As soon as you enter the speakeasy, you're greeted by a beautiful interior; it's truly a vibe. The dim lighting against the brown wooden walls and a cream ceiling creates a wonderfully cozy atmosphere. There are both bar seats and larger seating areas toward the back. We ordered several drinks: the Enzo, La Bocca, Pino, and Pisolino (Non-Alcoholic). All the drinks were fantastic. The Pino was incredibly refreshing, perfect for the hot weather. La Bocca tasted like Coke syrup but had other intriguing, complex flavors. The Enzo, despite being described as medium-bodied, felt full to me and had a lush taste. Even the Pisolino, the non-alcoholic option, was delicious. We didn't mind that it cost the same as regular cocktails because it genuinely tasted like a complex, well-crafted drink. The service has been consistently great on both my visits, and I sincerely hope they maintain that high standard. You're given postcards with your bill, and if you collect all eight, you get something special (if I remember correctly!). I thought this was a charming and clever idea. The bathroom, though not perfectly pristine, was still clean, even at nearly closing time. I was particularly impressed that they offered green hand towels instead of paper towels. This detail speaks to sustainability, adds a home-like vibe, and the color beautifully complements the brand. When you leave and descend the stairs, a "Ciao!" sign greets you when you look up. While a cute touch, it needs cleaning as it was unfortunately filled with dead insects. I'll absolutely return and introduce my friends to this incredible bar, and I'll be actively working to collect all eight postcards.

Bar Enzo was a really good time. Gio was a really good host and was able to let us try an item on the sunday sauce menu. 10/10 definitely recommend

Great ambiance and cocktails. Very intimate vibes. And they allow you to switch out the spirit of your choice if you favor something else. Helpful tip, it’s between the two garden baskets.

Yelp
A welcome addition to LIC, serving up craft cocktails in an intimate and carefully curated space. Just beyond the windows covered with slatted blinds, you can peer over the Greats of Craft. Knowledgeable and personable bartenders. Chose to sit at the bar both times I visited and have had an enjoyable conversation and appropriately attentive service both times.

Yelp
Came back for their soft opening and they clearly care about fostering a community. The bar featured platters of fresh figs from the Enzo family garden, and tasty cannolis. We already have plans to bring all of our visiting friends here!

Yelp
Cute speakeasy in the area! We had to ring the bell and wait to be let in. We got in without resys on a Saturday night. The inside is super cute with a bunch of vintage photos of the owner's life in Italy. I got their version of an espresso martini - the amuni (I did ask for less dulce de leche). It was delicious!
