Gran Sol

"The restaurant is named after the legendary fishing grounds of the North Atlantic, an important aspect of the town’s fishing tradition. Make sure you try the pintxos here, including Jaizkibel, Hondarribia and Huevo Mollete." - Michelin Inspector

I will post an honest opinion here. We came all the way from Japan, making great extra effort to make a side tour of Hondarribia on our way to Donostia, based on great reviews and recommendations by YouTubers. Yet, everything was very disappointing. The food looked beautiful and we were so excited. Then tasted one by one and we lost words and stared at each other. Nothing tasted good. How could they have won so many competitions? We don't get it. I believe they have a store in Shibuya, Tokyo. We are curious if they are any better because the food quality like this won't survive in Tokyo.

May be the Best Pintchos bar in Basque. From San Sebastian You can reach by a public bus in 45-50 minutes and enjoy the small village than the Bar. They oepm at 11:30 and you can have delicious tapas and than after 12:30 they serve the menu for warm snacks and they are unbelievable

Excellent Pintxos in the heart of Hondarrabia. Each dish is an explosion of flavors Quick organised service. Staff speaks French. We waited a bit to be seated. Price is a bit high because each Pintxo is just one piece. But it’s a good experience to taste the basque cuisine

We were drinking beer at the restaurant next door and found that there was a long queue of people at this restaurant, so we decided to try it. Although we waited for 15 minutes, the dishes did not disappoint us. The dishes here are innovative, so friends who have already eaten local traditional dishes may want to give it a try.

It was packed when we arrived at 9pm but the line went quick and we were seated and waited on promptly. The scallops were the winner of the night with tiny crunchy roe. They serve crusted boneless ribs in a tiny grill, tasty and crunchy - we tried the favorites…the Brioche filled with crab topped with passion fruit pearls - foie gras and the egg molette on potato straws - all yummy. The calamari was also a hit.
