Bar Mischief - Review - Downtown Austin - Austin - The Infatuation

"Bar Mischief might have some of the most inventive cocktails we’ve come across in a while—and this is coming from a team who drank a bright red cocktail out of the tail-end of a bird-shaped glass (see: Lovebirds). So whenever you’re ready to find out what tom kha tastes like in cocktail form, or just want to marvel at just how clear a drink like a clarified curried penicillin milk punch can look, head to Bar Mischief on the ground floor of the Inn Cahoots boutique hotel on East 6th. The whole bar is set in a small dark room with a speakeasy feel—complete with a long wooden bartop and massive chandeliers." - Nicolai McCrary

Google
Dave is the bartenders bartender. Took time to explain the menu, speciality cocktails, made recommendations based on what we told him, and totally nailed every drink. This is hands down our new favorite cocktail bar. The tunes were also on point. Everything you want in a craft cocktail bar is right here. Can’t recommend highly enough!

Dave was fantastic & made custom cocktails that were 🤌🏻 the bar was such a fun vibe, incredibly busy, but he went out of his way to make sure we got next level service

Great place! The craft cocktails are delicious, the staff is super friendly, and fabulous speakeasy atmosphere. Love the spooky lighting and decor of the place, very mysterious.

Bartender Dave was incredible and created the perfect cocktails for us. He was really easy to chat with and gave us excellent Austin recommendations. Best whiskey sour of the year.

Google
Beautiful venue. Top notch cocktails. Complex flavorful. Strong tons of options. Knowledgeable bar staff. 10/10. It's a small space. Our group of 6 got the last table at about 630 but then it seemed to clear out with a lull at about 730. They also have a good size bar area. I will definitely be back to snag a bar seat in the future.

I’ve walked past the speakeasy for over a year and didn’t even know it. It’s the perfect hidden gem a great spot for a date night. Ambience is 10 out of 10. Sebastian took really good care of us and recommend a great cocktails! Will be back again

Google
Was skeptical about this place because the hotel/bar names scream kitschy Instagram trap, but I am happy to admit, I was wrong. The service was impeccable. The drinks were delicious. Bartenders incredibly friendly. I would gladly drink here again. Jan 6, 2024 update: Bar Mischief changed their Bar Director pretty soon after this review. We went back, and things were still solid, but he took a lot of the drinks we liked with him, and they were planning a major menu overhaul, so things could be different now.

Cocktails are a bit expensive, but they are pretty good! It’s a rather small place, but very cozy.

Yelp
Located next to Inn Cahoots and hidden beneath IYKYK, if you're looking for a craft cocktail on East Sixth, Bar Mischief is one that should be added to your list. Bar Mischief is an intimate, cozy, and dim speakeasy perfect to impress a date or to enjoy a quiet night out. If you're a party greater than six, expect difficult accommodations, as the bar is meant for exclusivity.

Yelp
Shout out to Dave, I didn't know what I wanted, but I knew I wanted something great. Dave did exactly that. This gin Coristor is unlike anything I've had. Bonus point he also educated me on the drink! Shout out, Dave! I look forward to coming back!! (:

Yelp
Bar or speakeasy? Doesn't matter. One of the best bars in Austin that is my go to spot. The bartender David is an absolute master mind when it comes to different cocktails to try. He doesn't miss and always wants the best to his customers. He crafts whatever type of cocktail you're feeling Or in the mood for and it doesn't miss. 100/10.

Yelp
This place USED to be great, but fell off entirely. When they first opened, the drinks were incredible, the vibe was pristine, the bartenders were awesome! We found ourselves here weekly for three months straight! Then things changed. The bar manager who was the nicest guy on the planet was unceremoniously let go from what I've heard and everything went downhill from there. The drinks were awful, the music didn't make sense, the space just became another trashy spot on E 6th with some fancy chandeliers. It's obvious that the only thing that made this place work was the bar manager. The management of this hotel/bar group totally messed up; they had a perfect and unique concept and threw it away. I'll never step foot in this place again.

Yelp
A friend and I stopped in here spontaneously on a Saturday and while the area was crowded, we got a table with no problem. Atmosphere is very much like a speakeasy bar. Cute, dark and cozy. David was our bartender and helped us pick the perfect cocktail from the menu. If you like tequila, the Bandera Firing Squad was so delicious. For our second round, David asked if he could make something for us off the menu based on what liquors we're into. I am a fan of mezcal and he made a mezcal cocktail with lemon and I don't even remember what else because it was just perfect. David really made us feel welcome. His vast knowledge of cocktails and the ingredients that go into them will definitely bring me back here. Thanks David and Bar Mischief

Yelp
I came here for the first time about 4 months ago when they first opened and I was extremely impressed. It was intimate, sexy and had good jams. I thought their drinks were beautifully crafted and service was on point. I went on and on about this place to a friend, so a few weeks ago I went back to finally show her what she'd been missing out. Little did I know that they had changed up the menu a bit and that the Tom Kha (my favorite drink) no longer exists. The place is still worth visiting and their cocktails are delicious, but I was surprised and a little disappointed. The bartenders were super attentive and even offered to make something similar, so I might take them up on the offer another day.

Yelp
Excellent drinks--not surprising, with Andy Reinhardt behind the bar. Looked liked a great selection of spirits. Solid speakeasy vibe, from decor (loved the two large chandeliers) to dim light level to appropriate sound level. Will go back!

Yelp
Place feels like it was built by someone who thinks they know fancy and class but more than likely dress straight from the rack target. The logo looks like something a boomer made while trying to figure out Microsoft paint. Also why is the instagram outdated? Is it a speakeasy? Yes in the way that no one talks about it at all. Tons of better bars in the area. At one point it probably could've been good but now it's basically a chilli's. It's very obvious this place pays to delete reviews as well and has their friends writing good ones. Always a sign of desperation.

Yelp
This place has decent cocktails but refuses to allow people to split checks. Staff is super rude and snide to customers. Absolutey overpriced pretentious nonsense.

Yelp
Everything here is top notch - the service, drinks, and especially asking for creative cocktails from David. He was an incredible craft cocktail maker from the basics I gave and great company sitting at the bar!
