Bar Pez - Review - Portobello - Dublin - The Infatuation

"Bar Pez is an Irish-Spanish tapas restaurant where seduction comes in the form of a candlelit piece of deep-fried scallop toast. It’s a moodily-lit, bottle-and-a-few-croquettes kind of place. That said, there are plenty of couples who bed in for the long haul. You can sit at a table, but opt to sit at the bar closest to the sommelier or the chef. Talk wine and eat a crab sandwich, but if you’re after something heftier, the duck heart ragu with a slice of sourdough is a rich, gout-enthused end to an evening. photo credit: Dena Shearer photo credit: Dena Shearer photo credit: Dena Shearer Pause Unmute" - Jake Missing

Kensington Place Restaurant Closes in West London | Eater London

"The team’s wine bar on Kevin Street is recommended as a worth-checking-out spot for wine-focused drinks and a more casual companion to their fish-focused venue." - Emma Hughes

What a gem! Pez was such a lovely experience from start to finish. The atmosphere and service truly elevated the evening…warm, attentive, and perfectly paced. We ordered the croquettes, olives, scallop toast, tuna crudo, crab sandwich, tartare, and monkfish. We didn’t order a bottle and instead ordered multiple glasses over the course of the evening. The croquettes, scallop toast and monkfish were definite highlights for us. Overall, the menu (while looks small) was creative and we enjoyed everything we ordered. Recommend booking a reservation as the space is intimate. Definitely will go back!

Delicious Spanish tapas style place, very groovy, and extremely tasty. The wine list is quite pricey though, only a couple of bottles under €50. That said I look forward to returning!

Really gorgeous restaurant with delicious food & friendly staff. We ordered a good mix of everything and each dish was so tasty. The crab sandwich and croqueta were fab. The twist on a Basque cheesecake was amazing! If I was to be critical, I would say it’s quite expensive for the small tapas portion sizes, and having to order minimum 2 dishes per person (not including snacks etc) was a bit odd, but in fairness it was stated on the website, so not unexpected. The staff were very friendly and explained everything thoroughly. Overall, I will definitely return as the flavours of the food were delicious and the vibe of the place is very nice!

The food was really well made and tasty, but the portions were tiny for the price, €5 for one croquette felt a bit much. The wine list was nice with some good options, though the glasses were pretty small at just 125ml. Overall, the service wasn’t the best and the place felt short of expectations

Really cozy cute vibe in here. Food also reallyyy good, pan con tomate was my star. Think we kind of got scammed as well because he told us they “require” 2 plates per person not the small ones LOL so we had to order so much. Also got beer tartare and tuna crudo. Another example of what the heck is going on in Dublin for restaurants to “require” plates per person. Totally ruins the mood especially for a wine bar when you want to just pick on some plates to try a new place and drink wine.

Our last night in Ireland, with no dinner plans. The Fish House was near our hotel, but it was fully booked. Their website said to try their sister restaurant, Bar Pez. What a lucky find! The service was first rate, the wine was perfect, and every plate set before us was a treat—including the most amazing oysters I've ever had. The turbot was also a stand-out. My wife and I were very glad to have found this place.

Was really looking forward to try Bar Pez as I had heard good things. Unfortunately, we left a bit disappointed. We spent 72€ per couple (without alcohol) but we didn’t feel like it was worth what we had. They take bookings at 8:45PM but then as soon as you sit down they basically tell you that the kitchen is about to close… I think it closes too early on Fridays and Saturdays and late bookings are not a good idea. We basically got kicked out at 10PM when they opened the lights. 1 hour and 15 minutes for a dinner with friends is not a long time. Food was good but honestly too pricy. One small croqueta for 5 euros is kind of insane. My beef tartare had more peas than meat and the rarebit was mostly bread. The dessert however was fantastic, I must give them that! Deconstructed Basque cheesecake with strawberries, a beauty. Overall not bad but also not great. Kind of on the fence here to be honest. Maybe go and see for yourself would be my advice.

Google
Our favourite meal in Dublin. This is the place to go for seasonal small plates using the best local ingredients and a well curated wine list. A reservation is a must on weekends 😄

Yelp
On my first night in Dublin, I was excited to try Bar Pez. I looked at their website online and saw that they appeared to have bar seating and a yummy seasonal menu with lots of small plates. I arrived around 8pm on a Saturday for dinner. Being by myself, I did not think I'd need a reservation. I thought the bar seating was first come first serve and I love sitting at a bar. In fact, looking at their website, there was no indication that reservations were required or that they were even highly encouraged. There was also no indication that each table had time limits for dining either. But upon arriving, I was quickly told that I would not be able to eat there and the best they could do was offer me a glass of wine in the standing room section I asked if I could be put on a waitlist but there was no option to do so. Since it was my first time in Dublin, I really didn't expect it to be such a bother to arrive somewhere, as a party of one, with no reservation. I also didn't realize that Dublin is such an early dinner type of town. 8pm seemed to be their last seating of the night. Fortunately, some very kind strangers offered me a seat at their table and allowed me to devour some food during the last 15 minutes of their reservation. The food and wine was solid, based on the little I had time to try, but I'm afraid much of the experience was overshadowed by the blunder in communication about reservations which ultimately left me feeling unwelcome. If you are planning to check this place out, I highly recommend grabbing a reservation even if you are a party of one. I would also recommend that the restaurant does a better job of communicating that reservations are required, that walks-in are near impossible to accommodate, and that they don't offer a waitlist option upon arrival. This would've allowed me to have a much better experience.

Yelp
Food was amazing. The initial appetizers were olives, oysters, and rarebit. The flavors of the rarebit were amazing. Oysters tastes like just pulled from the water. Fresh and crisp. The crab was so light, fresh, and tasty. Asparagus salad was good, light, amazing RICOTTA. The turbo was prepared perform ctly, so creamy and light with a crispy skin. It melts din your mouth. The cheesecake was amazing to dessert. The wine list is eclectic and surprisingly large. The room was a little small but cozy. Service was excellent. I recommend a try if you like the small menu with interesting tastes and flavors.

Yelp
Food was good, if on the pricey side. Was let down on the service, felt the staff were rude with some of the comments they made.
