NYC’s New Restaurant Openings

"If you live on the Upper East Side and are constantly on the lookout for places to swirl a glass of low-intervention European wine and yap, you should know about Bar Vivant. The 88th Street spot is from the same team as Alison in East Harlem." - will hartman

The Well-Crafted Kitchen: Inside the Raucous New Paris Restaurant, Déviant | Bon Appétit

"A very small, 450-square-foot first restaurant of the chef that lacks a separate kitchen, so the chef and sous-chef cook behind the counter; the format is intensely intimate and counter-focused so guests can see every part of the operation. The place emphasizes tight organization, choreography and efficient use of space, and is slated for renovation overseen together with the chef’s elderly architect grandfather to make the most of its compact footprint." - ByChristine Muhlke

The cheese and meats menu was incredibly expensive for the size of that tiny kitchen. We got two cheeses and duck prosciutto but honestly I’d go back to try more. The tuna tartar was one of the best I’ve had in a long time, and our waiter didn’t even need to be asked to bring us more carbs when we were running low. We loved the salad, just enough fennel to make it tart & spicy but not overwhelming.

I had an exceptional experience at Bar Vivian, Christian, our server, was outstanding , attentive, personable, and truly made the evening special. I had the beef tartare, and it was incredible fresh, well-seasoned, and expertly prepared. The overall atmosphere was warm and inviting, and Christian’s exceptional service made it all the more memorable. I’ll definitely be returning and highly recommend this spot!

Do not walk, run to this hidden gem!! Sister restaurant to Allison in SpaHa. Wine selection is superb and the food selection pairs very nicely with all wine choices. Excellent service by Bo! We will be returning.

This is one of my favorite wine bars on the UES. The service is always top notch, and the staff do an excellent job of listening to my preferences and then helping me discover new wines that I love but might not have sought out myself. The food is excellent too, especially the mushroom toast, and the vibes can’t be beat. I would absolutely recommend it to anyone in the area!

Lovely spot in the neighborhood that has a high quality wine list and a casual date night vibe. I didn’t try any food since it was late but the people near us were raving about the cheese plate. The desserts looked good too. I think they could improve the atmosphere though- while the open kitchen is nice and you can tell everything they cook is made well, the bar smelled like cooking oil which isn’t that much of an issue but something we did notice. Regardless, I would definitely try this place again. I highly recommend it to anyone who likes to go out for a glass of wine alone with a good book.

One of those rare, magical NYC moments... stumbled upon Vivaldi Wine Bar completely by chance -- and it turned out to be everything. Tucked away on the UES, this place has the kind of charm you don't expect to just find. The ambience is warm and intimate, the wine list is seriously impressive (Spain, Italy, California, Portugal -- they've got it all), and the service? Spot-on. Our server helped us pick a perfect Italian rosé, and we paired it with a fresh arugula salad and a gorgeous cheese plate. Everything tasted light, delicious, and so well thought out. The whole experience felt so surreal. Already planning my return -- next stop: brunch.

I stopped by Bar Vivant for a solo dinner and was immediately charmed by the cozy, intimate atmosphere tucked away on the street. I opted for the steak frites, and it exceeded my expectations—perfectly cooked and far more generous in portion than I anticipated, given their focus on small plates. The rosé I paired it with was crisp and refreshing. The silky crème brûlée was a perfect sweet finish. Great spot for a casual evening of small plates and wine!

Yelp
What a great neighborhood find! While meeting up with a friend and looking for a new spot to explore, Bar Vivant popped up in our search--and it did not disappoint. I love its philosophy of curating wines from small, female, and family-run producers across France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, and the U.S. They highlight winemakers who embrace biodynamic, organic, minimal-intervention, and natural wine practices, making for a thoughtfully selected list. We tried the 2018 Château Chatain from France, which was incredibly smooth, perfectly dry, and easy to drink. Our waiter was a true gentleman--knowledgeable about wine, warm, and welcoming, making the experience even more enjoyable. To pair with our wine, we ordered the Bitter Greens Salad and octopus, both of which complemented the evening beautifully. The atmosphere was calming and charming, making for a perfect night filled with good company and laughter. I'll definitely visit again very soon!

Yelp
This is a cozy, cute wine bar in the neighborhood. Has a warm feeling to it. The walls have bottles of wines and some have cute little santa hats on them, which is a cute touch during the holiday season. I did not have any food here just a glass of sparkling wine. There is no bar area to sit at. The bar/kitchen is in the back and it looks very small. The waiter here seemed helpful and answered my questions I had. I may come back to try some food out. There was a strong ( to me) smell when I walked in of fish which I knew before hand they do have fish dishes here but Didn't think the smell would be that strong ( as I said in my opinion). There was great music playing though.

Yelp
Relatively new wine bar on the UES. Great selection of wines and bites, we had wine and charcuterie when we went. Good service and great ambience.

Yelp
Can't recommend Bar Vivant enough. Such a wonderful addition to this neighborhood with kind staff (Bo + Anne are amazing), great wine, and a cozy and welcoming atmosphere. We had the charcuterie, clam dip, and some sort of iberico/manchego sandwich that was unbelievably good, alongside multiple bottles of wine! All 3 desserts were great but the banana one stood out to me most. Come support this new, woman-owned business!

Yelp
So excited to have found my new go-to wine bar! Bar Vivant opened about a month ago and I've already been here twice. The space itself is gorgeous and a perfect cozy spot for the fall/winter season, and you can actually carry a conversation without having to yell (which is the case at many other NYC spots)! I've met both the owner, Anne, and Bo, the server, both of whom are so kind and have made me feel so at home. They also have a very intimate knowledge of the wine list and I've had some delicious bottles per their recommendations. Many of the wines are from female producers, which is also a plus! In terms of food, you really can't go wrong with anything on the menu -- there's a great selection of cheese and charcuterie (the Iberico ham is of course outstanding), the clam dip is delicious (I'm not usually a clam person, but this is so creamy and the perfect level of clammy), and the bocadillo is definitely a highlight. Tuna tartare and hamachi crudo are both so fresh, and the mushroom croquettes and lamb meatballs are so unique and delicious. Highly highly recommend a visit to Bar Vivant!

Yelp
I went to Bar Vivant about a week ago - it couldn't have been better. Anne, the owner is just lovely with a lot of knowledge about wine and food. The space is welcoming and lovely. The wine selections were great, food was really good with enough selection that everyone would be happy. Wish I lived closer, it would be my neighborhood hangout if I did.
