Barbican Kitchen - Review - London - The Infatuation

"Children under 10 can get a free meal at this casual cafe in the Barbican Centre when you spend £10 on an adult meal. Expect salads, sandwiches, and pizzas. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists." - Team Infatuation

So very disappointed ! Awful! One would expect better from carrying the Barbican name, this supposed to be a great place to eat and instead it’s a mess. Very confusing set up and not great price. The only thing that saved from despair was a smoothie prepared by a nice employee.

Food is good, plenty of vegetarian options and the atmosphere is amazing, the outdoor area is perfect for a warm sunny day. Free wifi, great for working with a laptop

We chose a build-your-own bowl from the salad counter. However, you don’t even build your own bowl 🤥🤣 You pay £15 only for a below-enthusiastic employee to dish up for you. You’re limited to only 1 protein. So if you want mozerella balls and falafel, no can do. Not what I expected for the price and disappointing service. Not well explained before you pay. The man who fished up coughed on his hand and served/dishes food. Nice setting but give the kitchen a miss.

it was sunday and everything around was closed, so we decided to give it a chance… wrong… 😔 first of all, prices for their food is tooooo high. secondly, quality is low… their sweet potatoes were undercooked… we were all so dissatisfied 😒 i went to ask to change it, and thankfully they did, but their other range wasn’t good… so i ended up with corn which i wasn’t going to order in first place. it looked good, but no flavour at all. tables were dirty, till service very slow….

Beef and vegetables were not thoroughly cooked; beef was hard and chewy, and carrots were hard to the core, inedible that even the blunt knives were no good. The atmosphere was quite nice in such a brutalist architectural setting. Hot kitchen immediate improvement was required.

I visited Barbican Kitchen Restaurant this Saturday and was truly impressed. Despite how busy it was, the service was excellent from start to finish. I ordered pizza, salad, and a matcha from drink menu – everything was fresh, delicious, and beautifully presented. The staff were kind, helpful, and smiling, even in the heat and rush. The person at the till and the team at the salad station really stood out for their great attitude and efficiency. It’s my third time visiting this place, and each experience has been consistently positive. I truly recommend it , the food is wonderful, the service is outstanding, and I’ll definitely be coming back Well done Barbican Kitchen!

There are actually two different establishments called "Barbican Kitchen" - one located in Plymouth and another in London at the Barbican Centre. ## Plymouth Barbican Kitchen The Plymouth Barbican Kitchen is housed in the world-famous Plymouth Gin Distillery and was established in 2006 by the Tanner Brothers, Chris and James[1]. This restaurant focuses on delivering fresh local food at realistic prices, taking full advantage of the superb larder in the Westcountry with menus showcasing stunning local meats, vegetables, and top-quality fish from their network of suppliers[1]. The Michelin Guide describes it as an informal eatery offering brasserie menus with a good choice of simply cooked dishes, with classic comfort food to the fore and good vegetarian options[5]. **Opening Hours:** - **Lunch Service:** Friday & Saturday, 12pm - 2pm - **Dinner Service:** Tuesday to Friday starting at 6pm, Saturday starting at 5pm[1] The restaurant has wheelchair access via lift to the lower section, with all toilets on the ground floor[1]. They add a discretionary 12.5% service charge for tables of 6 or more guests and offer private dining for 15-24 guests[1]. ## London Barbican Kitchen The London Barbican Kitchen is located on the ground floor of the Barbican Centre and is operated by Benugo[3]. This establishment offers a bright and welcoming space where fresh, delicious food is served all day[3]. Every salad, sandwich, and hot food item is made on-site, with cakes made either on-site or in their London bakery[2]. **Opening Hours:** - **Monday:** 9:00 - 21:50 - **Tuesday-Sunday:** 9:00 - 21:00[3] **Menu and Offerings:** The menu includes barista-made coffee, pastries, toasted sandwiches, build-your-own salads, hand-stretched pizzas, hot specials, street food, and various cakes and pastries[3]. In the evening, they offer wine, beer, and tapas/mezze dishes perfect for sharing or pre-show dining[3]. **Family-Friendly Features:** Children under 10 can enjoy a complimentary meal from the kids' menu with every adult meal over £10 purchased[3]. The venue offers facilities including baby change, disabled access, accessible toilets, free Wi-Fi, and outdoor seating on the Lakeside Terrace[3]. **Membership Benefits:** Barbican members receive 10% off their bill, while Young Barbican Members (aged 14-25) get 20% off[2]. The restaurant takes allergen awareness seriously, with trained allergen champions on-site to help customers with specific dietary requirements[2]. **Customer Experience:** Reviews are mixed for the London location, with some praising the location and atmosphere while others criticize the food quality and service system[4]. The venue attracts a diverse crowd including students from local schools and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, as well as theatre-goers and tourists[4]. A canteen style option at the Barbican centre. This is situated on the ground floor. It has a number of options. Generally healthy and prepared food. Good quality and reasonable prices. Staff friendly and service very good. Plenty of seating and free condiments. Great views over the small lake outside. Highly recommend this for quick service 👌

Yelp
Service. And getting the order correct. Taste of the food could improve as well. Management needs to remember that they are in a service industry.

Yelp
Grabbed a quick bite in the form of a brown-bread tuna sandwich midway thru a concert. Was fresh and did the job. I feel that they can do away with the plastic packaging though, there are recycled paper alternatives.

Yelp
If you need a quick dinner prior to a 7.15 show at the Barbican Arts Centre, this is where you should go. (The restaurants upstairs tend to be booked and slow.) It's a cafeteria, it's quick, it doesn't need reservation bookings, and the food is decent. There are 2 or 3 counters, including one for cold food, and one hot meal counter, which offers entrees with two sides. I had sea bass, which was actually in good shape for something from a hot table; and the broccoli in the sides was really delicious.

Yelp
Popped in for a coffee and a snack and opted for the chocolate cookie. I wish I hadn't. The cookie was hard and tasted of very little. How can you make a chocolate cookie with no taste?! An extra star for that feat. The place itself is very nice and the coffee was good hence the other stars. My wife had the lemon drizzle cake which was equally as bad. Avoid the confectionary it seems!

Yelp
Ok it is runned by Benugo, and you also have a Benugo cafe inside the center who shares some of the same stuff like to pastries for instance, but this place is called barbican kitchen so I figured I would let a review and make it public for everyone to see. This place is great though the food is Okay. The 4 stars come from the space : big casual self restaurant. Make your meal, pay, sit. No pressure. Makes it very easy when you come to a show. You get choices between cold and warm dishes. Lights are great, especially at night, AND you get to sit where you want AND this place opens up in summer. I can t wait to come back. You have an outside area near the water fountain, with a beautiful church sitting in front of you. It is really quiet and peaceful, right in the heart of London. The set up does I feel, compensate the quality/choice of the food though it is not bad food at all, and they serve booze if you want to hang out outisde It is really a nice set up. We had cold tuna steaks and salmon along with beans salad and feta tomatoes salad. All were good. Next time we ll head towards the warm section for grilled salmon, maybe pizza, meatballs, and maybe mac and cheese ;-). We ll see. Barbican is huge, and some kind of maze, with many many bars inside to drink from etc, but this place to grab a quick bite before sleeping at a play/show is very convenient.
