Bardonna - Review - Santa Monica - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"How do you know when a piece of internet slang is dead? A good indicator might be when a restaurant starts using it on its menu. Bardonna, another Santa Monica cafe jumping on the healthy-things-in-bowls trend, features “Squad Bowls,” “Sand Wizards,” and other harbingers of the apocalypse. Those who don’t run instantly after reading the dish names (and who are okay with forking over $14 for a bowl of quinoa) will find that the food is fresh, but not incredibly flavorful. If you just started the Whole30 diet and need somewhere to eat after your mid-afternoon Meditation for Weight Loss class, you’ve been going to Bardonna since it opened and don’t need this review. For everyone else, this is where you can eat an overpriced bowl of kale and feel marginally healthy." - Amy Clark

Google
Self-service casual brunch spot nestled in a residential part of Santa Monica. Cute outdoor bistro-style seating - perfect for bringing pups along. You order and pay inside, then a waiter brings you your dishes. Service was courteous. We ordered the breakfast burrito, which appeared to be vegetarian but still delicious. We also ordered the breakfast quesadilla, which was accompanied by a delicious chipotle aioli and salsas. Residential street parking available. Caveat: may require a bit of circling around to secure a spot. Ig: @dawntc

Google
Very close to the ocean, this spot gives total chill, beachy vibes calm, relaxing, and just a little boujee in the best way. ✨ Th foos was Absolutely ridiculous goodin The French toast might honestly be the best I’ve ever had soft, moist, and perfectly sweet. 🤤 The Poor Man’s Breakfast? So good crispy, flavorful bacon 🥓 The matcha was on the sweeter side but so well made and super refreshing. 🍵 Service was on point too, fast, friendly, and super helpful. 10/10 spot to unwind, eat good, and enjoy the ocean breeze. 🌊💚

Great brunch place with tasty sandwiches. Bread they use is REALLY good. If you’re in a group get a ricotta sandwich as a shared dessert! Sea salt foam cold brew is a must as well.

This place is ideal for a weekend brunch or a casual brunch any day. Their latte menu is a dream, we ordered the Marshmallow Cloud Matcha and the Matcha Affogato, and both were insanely good. For food, we got the smoked salmon platter, the waffles, and the breakfast burritos. Everything was delicious, and the portions were huge. The quality and portion sizes are super fair for the prices. The place is spacious, and the staff is incredibly kind. My experience was a 10/10!!!!

Google
Bardonna in Santa Monica is such a gem for breakfast and brunch. The food is consistently delicious: fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with care. Whether you’re craving something hearty or something a little lighter, everything on the menu hits the spot. One of my favorite parts of Bardonna is the adorable outdoor patio. It’s cozy, charming, and gives off those perfect “morning in Santa Monica” vibes. It’s the kind of place where you can sip your coffee, enjoy a great meal, and just relax. Service is friendly, the ambiance is warm, and the whole experience feels effortless in the best way. If you’re looking for a cute brunch spot that delivers on flavor and atmosphere, Bardonna is definitely worth a visit

Google
Great spot in Santa Monica for a solid breakfast, but be prepared because parking in the area is rough. Once you actually get inside though, the vibe, service, and food make it worth the effort. I ordered the steak and eggs and it was honestly cooked really well. The steak had a good sear on the outside, stayed tender inside, and had great flavor without being overly seasoned. The eggs were cooked exactly how I asked and the whole plate came together nicely with the potatoes on the side. I also got the tiramisu latte and that was a standout. It had the sweetness and creaminess you expect from tiramisu but still tasted like a real coffee drink instead of a dessert in a cup. Overall the food was very good, the service was friendly, and once you get past the parking situation it’s definitely worth stopping by.

Love this place! Their strawberry matcha is awesome, and the vibe is super chill. The staff is always friendly and it’s just an easy spot to relax or grab a quick bite. Definitely one of my go-tos!

The drinks were so good! They were rich and sweet! The tables were tiny and you can hear everyone around you! Its. Cafe and its outside so nothing too crazy! But if you like brunch its a cool place to check out!

Yelp
Amazing sandwiches and really good specialty drinks! REALLY tasty bread. Two of us had avocado eggs, salmon toast, ricotta toast to share and tiramisu latte and sea salt foam cold brew. It's a great brunch place without the wait. Food and drinks came out really quickly and service was nice. Patio has plenty of seating, indoors space seem to have limited seating. Perfect for a Sunday brunch with friend.

Yelp
I'm 11 weeks into Marathon training and therefore I've been on the hunt for the perfect breakfast burrito for a while now. It's basically become my Saturday ritual--long run with LARR, then a hot Epsom bath and a new burrito each week. It's like I'm on some sort of extremely niche culinary mission. This week's Google Maps search brought me to Bardonna, and honestly it was one of the better entries in my ongoing quest. I grabbed it to go (obviously--burritos are best enjoyed while soaking in the tub, don't judge). Right away, points for actually including avocado. You'd think this would be standard, but far too many places seem to believe it's optional. Rude. I have this *thing* about the potatoes in my breakfast burrito--I hate it when they're too mushy or there are so many that they take over and dominate the flavor profile (Breakfast Burritos = Serious Business.) Lately I've been biased toward burritos that throw in some tater tots or crispy hash browns--the crunch is elite, and I'm picky about textures. The ones in Bardonna's burrito were thinly sliced land didn't overpower or make it feel heavy. Oh and the Chef's kiss? Once it's all wrapped up they give the outside a little moment on the grill. That slight crisp makes all the difference, especially when you're trying to grip a burrito with pruney post-run epsom-bath fingers. Overall, Bardonna definitely earned a top spot in my weekly burrito rotation. Hearty, satisfying, not too potato-dominant, and perfect for eating in a bath while contemplating your life choices and weekly mileage. My search for the Perfect Breakfast Burrito continues, but this one is going on The List.

Yelp
Bardonna in Santa Monica is that perfect little breakfast/brunch gem that makes you feel like you've slipped away to a café in Paris. The outdoor seating is chef's kiss: bright, cozy, and full of that relaxed, European sidewalk-café vibe. It's easily one of my favorite spots to sit back, people-watch, and enjoy the weather. Now the food... fire. The French toast was absolutely bomb. Soft, flavorful, and just the right amount of sweet. And the breakfast sandwich? Also bomb. Perfectly balanced, filling, and just one of those dishes that instantly puts you in a good mood. Great ambiance, great food, great vibes. If you're in Santa Monica looking for a chill brunch spot with amazing eats, Bardonna is a must. Will definitely be back!

Yelp
Came here to try their breakfast/brunch. I wanted to be the crowd, so I went there pretty early. It's right in the corner. It doesn't have any banner or sign. There's both indoor and outdoor seating. But the indoor is very limited. I prefer the outdoor because you see people walking their dogs or cars drive-by. As you walk in, you have plenty of menus so you could go ahead and start looking at what you wanna try. Service was great very friendly and helpful. What I ended up getting was a breakfast burrito. However, it doesn't have any protein in it just egg. So I added bacon to it, but you could add whatever you want. The burrito was delicious. I would get it, but I wanna try something else. Next time I go. We also got the steak and eggs. It comes with potatoes and a toast. The steak had good flavor. It was medium rare it was perfect. To me if you don't like it that make sure you tell him how you want it cooked. To wash that down we got a vanilla latte that had really cool designs. I would definitely come back and try something different.

Yelp
Last Saturday, my family and I went to Bardonna Santa Monica for brunch. The line for order was a bit long and the place was quite busy, but the line moved quickly and we were able to find a table right away. We ordered Burrata Toast, Avocado Caprese Toast, Green Juice, Americano, Loaded Bagel, Espresso, Salmon Toast, and Carrot Juice -- everything was delicious! The service was also very friendly, which made the experience even better. It's a perfect spot to sit an outdoor table on a sunny day and enjoy a relaxing meal. Cf) But the Americano coffee was a bit bitter.

Yelp
Breakfast burrito taste good. Locations is great, feels lovely to seat outdoors. A bit hard to find parking spot. Service is ok
google avatar

Yelp
This spot is the best. Everyone who works here is so chill and welcoming. Even when they are busy they keep that friendly neighborhood vibe. This salted maple cold brew is my go before work. The matcha is pretty good too. I haven't had too much of their food but the breakfast burrito I had was really tasty. If I lived closer I would frequent this place more regularly. It's worth a visit!

Yelp
Amazing outdoor seating tried the Thai tea with matcha and the salad were great perfect amount of protein added

Yelp
Bardonna is a great spot for a casual bite! The all day brunch menu is extensive and my favorite item is the ode to Goldberg toast! The service is good and it is easy to enjoy a chill meal on the patio!

Annette G.

Yelp
I loved this little coffee shop. I fell in love with the French toast, and I'm a matcha. Grosser, ordering me a strawberry matcha. And it was delicious, sweet, creamy and presentation on all their items was excellent. Spanish latte. Had cream decoration as well. I give this spot my total recommendation.Because the food and the service was on point, and I think so far by far, they have the best french toast on my list.Totally recommend you to try it out.

Yelp
The food and drinks are amazing, but the service could use some improvement. We were enjoying the ambience and finishing up the last of our meal on the patio when an employee came up with a dirty dishes box and placed it on our table and started collecting our water cups. My friend still had a full cup and the employee seemed put off that she didn't down it that moment and said, "Our patio closes at 4 pm exactly, so." It was 4:02, their listed hours say they're open until 5. When I asked about it, she said, "Yeah, those are our old hours." I can understand wanting your shift to be over after a long day, I've worked restaurants. But to be rude about us not knowing your "new hours" when 5pm is posted everywhere, and stacking chairs right next to us to get us to leave was really surprising. Next time, try giving your guests at least a 15 minute warning before rushing to remove them after hours. At the very least update your operational hours so people have a chance to be mindful of your time. And cut the attitude, me eating at your establishment isn't a personal attack on your lifestyle? This is literally your job. I'm not sorry to "bother" you. I'd be willing to get takeout in the future, but I don't think I'd dine in again. Not after that.

Yelp
Food is fire and the ambiance matches definitely a spot worth coming back to. Got the latte and breakfast burrito.

Yelp
Stopped by here on a walk, and got a 'thai tea matcha'. This restaurant has a really cute indoor and outdoor area. Super clean, and really nice staff. And look at this drink
google avatar

Lily Z.

Yelp
Lately this place has been lovely place to sit outside, sip a matcha and eat a breakfast burrito. The staff, especially the baristas are so kind. One time I lost my wallet and the staff made sure to find me on one of my neighborhood walks to make sure I got it. This place has been thru lots of changes since 2020, but lately it's been such a nice vibe. Great place to get some work done too.
google avatar

Yelp
As a local, this place has been one of my go-to's in Santa Monica for years. Best vegan breakfast burrito in town and the only place with a vegan horchata cold brew. Plenty of vegan options and something for everyone--their menu is huge. Lovely outside patio seating, and really speedy service. Can get busy on the weekends but during the week it's a great place to grab a casual meal or drink with a friend or colleague. Luckily the quality has stayed pretty consistent over the years or else it probably would've shut down like many other cafes on montana.
google avatar

Yelp
Hey everyone so I've ordered from this place a couple times already and I love it. The food is always good and it always gets here asap. I usually get the breakfast burrito but today I switched to the chicken pesto sandwich and it was SO good. And I love that they draw/write stuff on my coffee cup every time it makes my day :) Give Bardonna a try if you're in the area or if you just want to try something new :)
google avatar

Horecee S.

Yelp
Man this place is cute and the patio is so lovely. But very overpriced and average meal. We had the burrata eggs plate, avocado toast and a hibiscus rose drink- $60 including tip. quality ingredients and preparation but the end result is a very simple meal that shouldn't have cost $60. Will return to maybe have some drinks on patio. The sandwich list looks promising. Maybe that's where the real value of this place is.

K K.

Yelp
The Salted Maple latte and S'more's latte are delicious! I absolutely love this place. Their drinks are always amazing and they have great service!
google avatar

Edith J.

Yelp
I went there for a coffee date and it was great! I had the ice matcha latte with whole milk but they have a ton of options for milk if needed. I went around 3pm on a weekday so it wasn't crowded at all and it seems like a good place to work from and just hangout in their patio.
google avatar

Laura L.

Yelp
Mainly came here for the hype around the place and I think it definitely does lean on the pricier side. We got the breakfast burrito and a sandwich which both tasted good but did not need to cost 20+ dollars. I liked the ambiance though - a lot of people sitting and chatting on a Tuesday afternoon and the outdoor seating is really cute. It felt very LA. Service was pretty good too, we waited around 15 minutes for our food to come. A good amount of street parking in the surrounding neighbourhoods!
google avatar

Donna L.

Yelp
I haven't been on Montana in awhile and stumbled across this place today with my daughter. Finally, a breakfast place in SM with a lot of amazing options that we both found ourselves desiring to come back to try all the ones we were interested in. TG the food delivered ... the best soft scramble eggs, besides my own, that left me not needing any further seasoning. My daughter's pesto eggs with her gf option in bread made her a happy camper. The Earl Grey Matcha latte was delish and they also boast their all day brunch and they serve cocktails! We'll be back ... often.

Anastasia A.

Yelp
Lovely patio and atmosphere, but VERY disappointing service. We visited around 3:40 PM on Sunday, September 7. Unfortunately, our experience was soured right from the start by the woman working the register -- dark-haired and seemingly in charge. She was unwelcoming and visibly rude, not only to us but also to what appeared to be a new coworker. We were rushed to place our order because, according to her, the café was closing soon -- despite the posted hours online (Apple Maps) stating a 5:00 PM closing time. When we politely pointed this out, she curtly dismissed it with, "Yeah, but that's not the case." The service attitude didn't improve. After we received our food and sat on the patio -- along with a dozen other customers -- the same employee came outside, began putting furniture away around us, and audibly mumbled her displeasure. It felt passive-aggressive and made for an uncomfortable dining experience. If this café wants to maintain its charm and attract repeat customers, it seriously needs to address customer service issues and either update its posted hours or better train staff on how to handle end-of-day operations with professionalism and courtesy. The setting is beautiful, but experiences like this one drive people away.

Yelp
I live in the neighborhood and have been going to bardonna for years. I am extremely disappointed that I arrived yesterday with my 3 year old To order our usual breakfast burrito, and found this sign posted. I feel disgusted that we have been putting our health at risk every time we are here. We will never be returning.

Olivia G.

Yelp
10000/10 - this has been my favorite spot for years. I bring all my friends here and they absolutely love it. The NEW tiramisu drink & strawberry matcha are fuego !!!! 1 day later and I'm still craving that tiramisu coffee ‍ Not on the menu yet but if you ask they'll make it Bussin is an understatements Service is amazing. The team is so kind and accommodating! Love to sit outside and people watch. Definitely recommend the breakfast burrito with truffle guac.

Yelp
Great spot in Santa Monica! Highlights: good coffee and tea, lots of food options, super vegan friendly, lots of outdoor seating, strong wifi, close street parking. It's a little on the pricier side I would say which is why it's 4 stars but not crazy more than most of LA coffee spots now days. (Chai latte is like $8 with regular milk, $9 with alt milk for example). Love that they have soy milk! Staff were nice. Very sunny, chill vibes- good for working on a weekday but I'd say just for socializing on weekends as it often gets packed.

Jasmine V.

Yelp
We got the Poor Man's Breakfast and the Breakfast Burrito and it was divine!!! Our king Javi made exquisite drinks which were the Tiramisu Latte, espresso martini and the orange matcha latte. The hospitality was amazing and we will definitely be coming back!!
google avatar

Bowen M.

Yelp
This place is the best! The staff were really friendly and the atmosphere is laid back. Good food!

Yelp
Our favorite place! THE BEST FOOD and the best service! Excellent FRESH + HEALTHY food: fabulous coffee menu, dreamy veggie juices and yummy fruit smoothies. We drive across town to eat here nearly every weekend. The food is always perfect and the staff are hard working, kind and polite. Even when it's the busy lunch hour, everything runs smoothly. We love sitting outside and people watching. Great for small or large groups. Food for everyone. Amazing menu.

Ashish M.

Yelp
Staff was sick! And coffee was delicious! I enjoyed the vibe and the music as well. Would you back again for sure!

Yelp
Friendly staff, plenty of outdoor seating and large menu of good brunch items and drinks. Love this place!

Yelp
Excellent food and full of flavor and beauty. Environment and ambiance is inviting. The staff is awesome

Yelp
This review is solely for my visit for a drink! With that said I did review the menu! At first glance of the menu, everything seemed overpriced. Of course this place is on a hot street in Santa Monica. The restaurant has a tight seating area inside and additional seating outside! I ordered a chai and was shocked by the drink price. My cup of chai cost 6.85. Really?! That's too much for a cup of tea with a lack of service. The menu, said mixture was homemade. As for taste, it was ok but not great. Besides the price, the worst thing was that I got kicked out. Apparently on a Friday they close at 5. I wasn't even done with my drink!

Yelp
Love everything about this place. The vibe, the iced coffee, the patio. Great place to chill and work on a week day.

Yelp
Not bad - ordered on Grubhub and delivered quickly. Kind of expensive for a breakfast burrito-$16!! Wow

Yelp
Unfortunately, I have to leave a negative review for this place simply because the manager or the owner is a piss poor example of what a business owner should be. Especially in the hospitality & food industry, it's truly a disgrace. He's very disrespectful and I feel bad for the employees there, that have to work in an environment orchestrated by such an immoral individual. Everything else is good though, I must admit. I had enjoyed the food, drinks & service here thus far. I've had great experiences with several employees as well but today he ruined it all for me. Also, he told me "don't come back here" & "your business is no good here". And I'm black with dreadlocks so y'all know what that means! Lol, this is America though and I haven't forgotten. To anyone reading this, if you ever wondered why black people are known for becoming irate in public is because of reasons like this. People just think that it's okay to openly be disrespectful and intentionally fail to acknowledge or address our concerns as real. Instead, we're just frowned upon for even opening our mouth. I would have more good things to say about this place, but this experience left a really bad taste in my mouth. And then the nerve to give me a drink, that was still not what I paid for afterwards is just pitiful. Respectfully, f*ck you and your latte!

Sophie M.

Yelp
This place has such a great atmosphere, especially on a sunny day when you can sit outside. The breakfast burrito was delicious but definitely a bit pricey considering there were no sides. I would come back again!

Sophia L.

Yelp
Amazing food/drinks paired with amazing service. Bardonna's various offerings are all high in quality and they promise to not disappoint. Definitely a spot worth checking out for any breakfast/brunch occasion as they have something for everyone!

Matt M.

Yelp
Bardonna is one of my favorite coffee/breakfast spots! I go at least once a week and love to try their different coffee drinks (you have to try the Vietnamese iced coffee). The amazing staff and excellent food and drink definitely makes my week better.

Joann F.

Yelp
The food is amazing!! Good service. The food came so fast. The breakfast is really good I got hen and the woods. And the protein smoothie was nice
google avatar

Yelp
I love coming here for a breakfast burrito and dining al fresco! I arrived on a weekday so it wasn't too crowded, and they had wifi so I was able to get a bit of work done as well. Food isn't bad, although a bit pricy... but it is Santa Monica.

Yelp
Came here to meet up with some friends. Ordered the poor man's breakfast and a coffee. Decently priced. The two ladies taking orders were not loving their jobs. However the servers were very cool. The food is pretty good. Will definitely be back to try other items on their menu.

Yelp
Likely the best lemonade in town. My mom has been spending a good amount of time in SM so she often stops here for a snack or drink. She loves their lemonade on a warm day. She hasn't had much food but everything looks delicious. The employees are super friendly too. Be warned if you're a very large person, this may not be your place. Sitting is tight and you'll be a little too close to others. I recommend. 5 bones!

S O.

Yelp
I had a tasty steak bowl of generous portions and a golden milk latte with hemp milk. There's lots of outdoor seating with and without coverage. I like that there were two tops, four tops, and even bigger tables for groups/communal dining. It's right on Montana and 16th which means good people watching in a quiet and clean area. This is a suitable spot for casual business mtgs. Dogs are allowed outside. Prices are on par with most things in this neighborhood as is the service.

Ali M.

Yelp
Best Matcha on Montana Ave! such a cozy neighborhood vibe. Come here for brunch for any of the egg dishes. Really sweet staff.
