Bakery & cafe: croissants, breads, pies, coffee & wine
"Located in a historic, restored railroad hotel from the 1800s, Bartlett House’s charm is surpassed only by the caliber of its food. The all-day bakery and café have an impressive selection of breads and pastries, plus a satisfying menu of American classics like breakfast sandwiches on homemade English muffins." - Emma Orlow

"Escalante also baked at the Bartlett House in Ghent, which is noted alongside his other prior workplaces to emphasize his broad experience before joining Laurel Bakery." - Melissa McCart
"Bartlett House is technically in Ghent, about a 15-minute drive outside of Hudson, but you should make the journey for baked goods, lunch, and dinner on the weekends. In an old brick building with a striped-awning-covered front porch, Bartlett House is the kind of exceedingly pleasant place you picture when you start daydreaming about a weekend escape on Monday morning. They serve a big menu of French-ish farm-fresh classics, and we haven’t had a disappointing thing here. If you don’t have a car to drive to Bartlett House, the Maker Hotel on Warren Street sells bread and pastries from Bartlett House in their cafe during the day." - Team Infatuation
"Filled with wholesomeness, off-duty celebs (apparently Julia Roberts is a regular!), and fresh baked goods, it’s the perfect place to sink into a long, lazy brunch before heading back to the fast pace of the city. I like to order a luxurious spread: housemade bread served with butter and jam, a maple cortado, and a few dishes to share, like the green shakshuka. Packed with charred kale and topped with feta and a runny egg, it’s my absolute favorite thing on the menu. It also photographs well in the gorgeous space, a 19th-century home brimming with gold accents and beautiful green-stained wood flooring. Once I’m caffeinated and full, I’ll pick up some jams (great gifts!) and grab some goodies from the bakery side of the house for my drive back. I change up my order every time, but I always get the ham and cheese croissant. Instead of having everything hidden inside, the croissant is flattened and topped with a slice of perfectly salty country ham and melted Gruyère cheese. It’s the first of the baked goods to go, which are almost always finished before we get back to the city. If it’s good enough for Julia, it’s good enough for me." - ByEmma Fishman
