Basil Pizza & Wine Bar

I had a semi wonderful experience at Basil Pizza and Wine Bar. The food was phenomenal in all ways. The dishes were unique- not your typical menu. The menu wasn’t too large, making ordering a breeze. However, I was disappointed that there was only a single waiter doing all the work. It was very frustrating to ask for anything, even the bill. Another small complaint I have is the volume of the music. The music was much too loud for others to talk over. All in all, I would come back to this restaurant. The vibe was amazing and the chefs outdid themselves with the flavor on every single dish.L

Gathered here with friends and colleagues. From the outside, it doesn't look impressive. Plus they have a B rating. I would not have selected this place because of those things. However, I was with someone who eats only kosher food and she recommended it. Basil is located in the heart of Crown Heights, a heavily Jewish-populated area, although quite diverse overall. My friends and I ordered a few appetizers and salads to share out. We had a mixed green salad with a citrus vinaigrette, arugula and beet salad (special of the day), cauliflower in caramelized carrot puree, and basil fries. Then we ordered a mushroom soup and mushroom pizza (which had olives on it). They accommodated a dietary request for pizza with no cheese. It was delicious. The food tasted fresh, was beautifully plated and had good flavors. Food is on the pricier side but because of the area and the quality of the food, it was worth it. I was pleasantly surprised. At the end we ordered dessert. I ordered a dulce de Leche cheesecake and tried my friend's creme brulee alongside a hot cup of chamomile tea. Very nice. After we ate we sat and talked for a while. The staff did not rush us out. Our waitress was very attentive the entire time. It was also cool to witness a Hanukkah candle lighting once the sun was setting for day 3 of Hanukkah. The people in the restaurant started singing songs after praying. By this time the restaurant had a beautifully diverse group of people there (Black, Jewish, Asian, Hispanic, and White) Gotta love NYC and especially BROOKLYN! I do have a few improvement recommendations for the restaurant: - the seating feels weird and tight in certain areas. Maybe re-consider the seating arrangement. - the dishes and tables could be cleaner. The bathroom was decent and clean. That was important and encourages me to return at a later time. Overall I give this place a solid 4 and would recommend it.

Authentic, elevated and Kosher Italian Cuisine. The pizza is tops, but my favorites include the gnocchi ai funghi, Burata ensalata, asparagus with a poached egg, cauliflower over carrot puree and the green eggs shakshuka. The service certainly measures up to the aesthetic and culinary excellence of Basil Pizza and Wine Bar.

Surprisingly good. Was very impressed by the food. The service is great. Only complaint is it's a little pricey

the 3 stars is an average between the quality of the food and the reception. actually, the correct answer would be 2 and a half. last sunday, on 1st day of the year of the gregorian calendar, we were a party of 3 adults and 4 children (plus one baby on a stroller) celebrating a birthday. reservation has been made in advance. food was very good in general, but as we got the ordered desserts, one was missing. when asked, the attendant answer was “oh! i forgot! do you still want it?” as i was drinking my capuccino, the same attendant started wiping the table.* i asked him if i could finish it without being expelled, and i was not very kindly told “i need this table!”. that is the perfect way for basil to start the year with the left foot! *ps.: we had to pile up ourselves the dishes after the main course, to make room for dessert… :-(

Was there with my daughter on Saturday night and was super busy but was very impressed with the quick service we received , although the place was busy the food came within minutes !! Thank you Basil

Some of the best kosher pizza I've had, and the food is very good too. Good attention to detail and great service. Nothing we had was "blow your socks off" except the pizza. Habanero white pizza could have been more spicy, but the basic Margharita was solid. There's a nice open kitchen layout, and the chefs make the pizza in front of a bunch of seats. They also have a nice beer and wine menu. In terms of the pizza, the cheese is pretty high quality and the ingredients are great. The crust is definitely better than your average crust, but could have been a bit more airy. The oven was super hot and there were nice char marks, but tasted kind of like a cracker at times
