The 38 Best Restaurants in Dublin, Ireland | Eater

"Slightly outside downtown (but definitely worth a trip), Barry Fitzgerald and Clairemarie Thomas’s Michelin-starred restaurant is decorated in low-key decor that belies the quality of inventive cooking in the kitchen. While there are some Nordic influences including ferments and foraging, the tasting menu (the only option) is based on seasonal, Irish produce. Featured dishes might include poached oyster with elderflower and tomato dashi; mackerel tartare with fermented gooseberry; and lamb neck with pointed cabbage and sheep’s yogurt. Know before you go: A vegetarian menu is available and there’s a well-chosen low-intervention wine list." - Corinna Hardgrave

"This vibrant little restaurant with a lively spirit features an open kitchen in which you’ll find the chefs crafting their modern set menu around top-class Irish produce at the height of its season. This is cooking that comes from the heart, with the stripped-back dishes allowing each main ingredient to shine next to a few bold and beautifully judged accompaniments – such as butter-poached cod with an intense shellfish bisque or Anjou pigeon with a potent madeira jus. Start with an aperitif while you enjoy the delicate snacks." - Michelin Inspector

Zoe Lister-Jones Finds Goddess Power and Gourmet Food in Ireland | Vogue

"We wandered through the bustling streets of Temple Bar, with lovely shops, cafés, and, of course, pubs, and after a pint or two of Guinness, landed at the much lauded Bastible for a gastronomic feast." - Vogue

Amazing! It’s always great to start off a trip with a wonderful dinner and Bastible was exactly that. The food was beautifully plated and every dish was good, and a few in particular I would say were spectacular (mushroom custard and Halibut come to mind). The staff were super attentive (accommodated no spicy components for our daughter) and friendly and it was such a great experience overall. It’s not a huge space, so seats are limited, but if you see an available reservation do not hesitate. This place is truly wonderful!

My husband and me just had an amazing culinary dinner experience here. We absolutely loved the food but also the wine pairing that came with it. The staff was very experienced and friendly and we loved the cozy atmosphere. Hope to visit soon again!

Bastible is a true gem in a lively part of Dublin. The food was outstanding — perfectly seasoned, full of bold flavours, and showcasing real culinary skill. The flavour combinations were unusual in the best possible way, each dish a surprise that worked beautifully. The mushroom custard was an absolute stunner, and the horseradish foam with caviar and tartare was a brilliant combination that worked incredibly well. The set menu was offered at a very fair price point, making the experience all the more impressive. The wine list, though small, was well curated, and the sommelier was helpful and attentive. The staff overall were friendly and the atmosphere relaxed and welcoming. The only downside was the double seating, which made the evening feel a bit rushed — we would have loved just a little more time to savour the experience. Still, an excellent restaurant we’d return to in a heartbeat.

You have got to try this ! I loved the open kitchen in this one room restaurant. Young lads, modern decor, nice music, and absolutely delicious food. The value for price was extremely good. Would definitely come back. Also we very much appreciated that they let us come with our 10 month old boy.

It is what you expect out of a Michelin star restaurant - innovative and clever flavours that make you think. Each dish comes with a commentary that elevates your appreciation of the dish. Simple and relaxed atmosphere is great, however it seems downright casual for the intricate food served.

Google
Bastible feels like a neighbourhood gem with a Michelin star polish – relaxed, welcoming, and serving some truly gorgeous food. The flavours are spot-on, with dishes that are creative but never fussy, and the wine list has plenty of gems to match. The only downside was the pacing: there were long gaps between courses, which took a bit of the energy out of the evening. Still, when the plates did arrive, they were worth the wait – thoughtful, seasonal cooking in a cosy Dublin setting.

My friends and I had the absolute pleasure of dining at Bastible this past Saturday, and it was everything you'd expect from a Michelin-starred establishment. While every dish was delicious, a few stood out. The blue cheese and corn tartlet was so good. It was an unexpected combination that worked beautifully. Next up, the beef tartare was simply outstanding. And the mushroom custard *chef’s kiss* Beyond these highlights, the service was impeccable.

Google
The overall experience at Bastible was good. The food was enjoyable and the evening pleasant. That said, nothing truly stood out as exceptional, which is what you naturally hope for when dining at a restaurant with this level of reputation and recognition. The service, while friendly, felt a bit unpolished and lacked the finesse you’d expect. A solid evening, but it didn’t quite meet the high bar it sets for itself.

Yelp
Came here on a rainy evening for the tasting menu. The ingredients were fresh and staff were knowledgeable about everything. Its easy to see why this place has a one star Michelin as the chef has prepared a solid menu. It certainly doesn't have the frills and heavy attention to detail a 3 star restaurant would but if you want to come here for solid flavors and good portioned food then this is your place. If you're a big person then maybe you still might be a little hungry when you leave. My favorite was probably the scallop and plum dessert dish as they tasted the most well balanced. Assuming the menu is seasonal, check it out before the menu changes

Yelp
There are only few tasting menus where I have enjoyed every course. At Bastible, each course was delicious. However, I felt like the portions for each course were too small. They were literally bite-sized, including the main course, which was supposed to be a pork chop. The "pork chop" was two thin slivers of pork chop meat, a piece of fennel, and a piece of kale. Although I enjoyed the flavors of each course, I finished the meal not feeling quite full. Home girl was still hungry!

Yelp
This was my favorite meal of the trip. Only ~$100 USD no additional tips needed with NINE COURSES packed with local seafood and produce The waiter even said they picked the mushrooms from ACROSS THE STREET Had the best time here - not pretentious, open space, super approachable and open, great staff +phenomenal flavors Definitely a MUST SAVE already dreaming about going back

Yelp
Exceptional food - best I had in Ireland, and among the best in my life. Worth the visit - every dish was unique, amazing, and tasty. Bread and butter was a nice start, and the ambiance is nice casual! Also veg and pescatarian friendly if you request! The actual experience was on the longer side - 3 hours total, and the service was impeccable. Wines were expectional and well priced. Overall - cannot recommend this place enough - included are many photos of this experience which was a highlight of ours to the country!!

Yelp
Touring Ireland and need a reliable foodie spot in Dublin? Didn't bring a suit and tie? Unpretentious and friendly, with top notch food and wine pairing. Quality all around. The tartare, smoked and lacquered sea trout, and salt aged pork stole the show. House made sourdough and typically fantastic Irish butter complement the entire meal. Fantastic funky wine selections for the pairing. Definitely worth a visit.

Yelp
Really really loved our meal at Bastible. The beef tartare and cured scallop were two of our favorite dishes. Except that the last 3 courses took about 1.5 hours to come out. While the first 6 came out in the first 1.5. I'm confused. Maybe this is normal for dining in Ireland? Despite this, I still do highly recommend dining at Bastible for a non suit/tie dinner that delights all your tastebuds. But only if you have time for a 3+ hour dinner. Make sure you enjoy the time of your dining companion or else its hard to get your way out of the dinner.

Yelp
We aren't the fancy type but a friend recommended Bastible while in Dublin and she said it was her absolute favorite. The restaurant only had about 9 tables (mostly for two's) and the ambiance was not overly fancy but inviting and authentic and it has an open style kitchen. The menu is preset which we didn't mind at all and we did review it ahead of time before placing the reservation. Everything was carefully crafted and the whole experience was a perfect way to start a trip. The food is exactly what you would expect from a high end restaurant. Everything was dynamic and well thought out. 5 stars!!

Yelp
I have been to a few Michelin star restaurants and never before has one been so accommodating as Bastible. My girlfriend has an egg and shellfish allergy; and rather than dissuade us from the tasting menu (which contained both ingredients), they made changes to their dishes on the fly. Truly an incredible experience with amazing ambiance!

Yelp
This if the official splurge meal. We went for lunch and the chef's menu was so damn good. Make a reservation and go all in here. The flavors are unique and adventurous. Each course kept getting better and better. I was so impressed, that even a 3 course turned into 5+. The perfect amuse bouche, extra dessert and more. The duck breast was perfection. The cheese plate was a great taste of Ireland dairy. We had great wine recommendations for pairing and the server was the best. I'm so thrilled that we made it here during our visit to Dublin.

Yelp
Exquisite Cuisine! Culinary genius at its finest. This pre fix menu exceeded any reasonable expectations on each and every course. The wine pairings were spot on. The staff was exceptional and very knowledgeable. Worth every penny you could pay for this. I expect to see another Michelin star very soon.

Yelp
We found out about this place from a blog called 2foodtrippers. I've had some amazing meals, including plenty of James Beard winners and all the Michelin stars...this restaurant and chef HOLD THEIR OWN. If you are a foodie at all, this has to be on your dinner list for your Dublin travels.

Yelp
This has to be my #1 restaurant this year. Adventurous us, went for the chef's menu and were bowled over. 4 starters, a main and the best dessert. Since I can't remember the names, I've attached pictures to tell my dining story. The house red is an Albizu tempranillo, and we're looking to source a bottle. It was a great compliment for our meal. If you do decide to go to Bastible, be adventurous and order the chef's menu.

Yelp
An outstanding meal. We had heard great reports and were expecting dreamt things, and they delivered. We started with a selection of starters, a lovely gigas oyster, some gorgeous taramasalata, a croquette of broccoli and cheese, a beetroot salad with a soft goats cheese and Caramelised walnuts, and finally ducks heart with wild garlic and polenta to die for, sensational. For mains we had the roast beef for Madame and the black sole for me. This was as accomplished I meal I have eaten anywhere, confident well executed cooking, and the wait staff are utterly charming. Desert was a warm brownie and a poached rhubarb. Both excellent, the rhubarb won out, perfectly poached retaining just enough structure and not too sweet. I cannot wait to return, thank you.

Yelp
If nothing else, come here for the desert of Pain Brioche THE BEST DESERT EVER! I actually shared it with a coworker which was a major mistake of mine. The menu is very elegant and definitely for a more experienced pallet. I believe the menu does change on a regular basis so I won't go into too much detail on the food. It did look and taste great. The atmosphere inside the restaurant is quite good- it's small but by no means do you feel claustrophobic. Our waiter was very friendly and also knowledgable when it came to the wine. The price range is for sure a little steep but you are getting high quality food. Good for groups and perfect if you live in Portobello.

Yelp
FINALLY had the chance to experience Bastible last weekend and within 24 hours I had scheduled a return booking there for next month. While I might have no idea how to pronounce the name, there is no question that they know food. Everything from my tuna tartare snack to the lemon tart with earl grey ice cream were fantastic. For my main I had the lamb which is one of the most memorable lamb dishes I have had. It was smoky and so tender and just delicious. Bastible has a relaxed atmosphere and you can pick how glutenous you want to be with the two-course, three-course or full monty with three-course and a snack. They also have a nice wine list with several options under €40. Looking forward to next month!

Yelp
It's hard to get a booking here but so worth it! We were squeezed in at 6 pm on a thursday afternoon... again, totally worth it. The whole meal was stunning, the beef was orgasmic. Service was impeccable. We made a mistake and showed up with an extra person and they accomodated us graceously.

Yelp
Expected a lot thanks to great write-up in Conde Naste magazine. Our expectations were comfortably surpassed. Friendly staff, great meal and excellent wine choice. The main meal of black Angus flank was absolutely out of this world. To shine in Dublin you have to be spectacular. Bastible is.

Yelp
WAOW ! : )) It was absolutely amazing, I can't believe how good it was. One of the best meal I had in my life ! Food heaven.. Starters and Main courses deserve a Michelin star, at least ! If you think I exaggerate..go there and come back to me then ! ; ) They just have to improve the desserts and the interior design ( ok well, like that we focus on the food hehee ) and it will b perfect. Bravo Chef ! : )

Yelp
AHMAZING! I planned to visit the restaurant based on the Bon Appetit article on the Portobello neighborhood, and they did not disappoint!! I was lucky to nab a reservation for their vegetarian night (done once a year apparently) and it was one of the top 10 dining experiences I have had. The wine was great, the staff was great, the food was superb. HIGHLY recommend a visit!

Yelp
We went here for an early family dinner and everyone finished their plates. High quality ingredients well prepared in uncomplicated way. We will be back again as a couple to try the chef's menu. We weren't able to this time as we were with our family group, some of who are picky eaters.

Alyssa B.

Yelp
Amazing lunch!!!!! Made reservations for Sunday which included a preset selection of courses. A few small plates in the beginning w/ a wonderful main course. They had a vegetarian option which was delicious! The service is great too. Very attentive and nice employees. Must try!!!

Yelp
Holy cow what a great find at the end of our trip. Yelp reviewers pictures caught my attention and we opted to do our dinner on our last night here. Tough to get reservations but we got lucky and grabbed 3 seats at the bar with no reservation. Bar is only 6 seats in total and restaurant is relatively small. Eat here great food, great cocktails, small but solid wine list plus a great staff that likes their jobs and sharing in the experience. Michelin star worthy and best meal I had in Ireland. When I'm back this is a must visit.

Yelp
The perfect evening from start to finish! It was definitely well worth the weeks my party of 5 waited for a weekend reservation! My coeliac friend was thoughtfully catered for with a little radish amuse bouche when bread was brought to the table for us wheat eaters! The cheesey savoury doughnuts & beef tartar we all shared pre-starter perfectly started our evening. The silka deer starter was a winner for me hands down on the starters but the pistachio flavour in the summer salad was fabulous too. (Lots of sharing going on) Mains were all incredible. Best lamb shoulder I've had..maybe ever..just melted in my mouth but the monkfish & beef dishes were both beautiful dishes too. The white chocolate dessert with buckwheat crumb was fantastic & gluten free much to the delight of my usually crumb-deprived gluten free friend! Beautiful red wine, great service.. I'm not sure if we got lucky with our 3 hour sitting but it all made for the perfect meal experience! Best meal I've had in Dublin in a long time!

Yelp
The drinks ware amazing not to mention the style of food was good enough to be bye gordan ramsy . I'd love to go again just you have to book months in advance.

Yelp
Came here on the recommendation of Conde Naste Traveller magazine and it did not disappoint. We arrived for lunch and the food and service was spectacular. Reasonably priced for 2 or 3 courses, ambiance very nice, wine and drink selection broad. I would definitely come back again!

Nicole D.

Yelp
If doing set menu the wine pairing is a must! I was so impressed with the entire menu. The combination of flavors and culinary boundaries being pushed is enough for this San Francisco native to include Bastible in my top 10 restaurants.

Robin B.

Yelp
One of the best meals we had in Europe! The food was amazing and our wine pairing was perfect. We had such a good time we forgot and left a bag of expensive Irish chocolate at the restaurant. Bill called the phone we made the reservation with but we were off to Amsterdam the next day and couldn't get back to pick up the chocolate. Almost 2 weeks week later, when we were back in the USA, I called and Bill was still holding our chocolate. We decided he would mail it and it arrived intact yesterday - all the way from Ireland to Sugar Land, Texas. Now THAT's good service! Thank you so much Bill O'Cleirigh! The Irish are so darn friendly! :-)
