"Your requisite Prohibition-inspired speakeasy with a quirky name and a secret door? That’d be Bathtub Gin. Walk through Stone Street Coffee to get in – there is a “bouncer” (you are dangerously close to Meatpacking, after all) but you can pretty easily grab a reservation on OpenTable to avoid any issue. As the name would indicate, gin is the focus. And there’s a bathtub." - katherine lewin, hillary reinsberg

"A good spot for impressing out-of-towners, Bathtub Gin is your standard-issue Prohibition-inspired speakeasy with a quirky name and a secret door. In order to get in, you have to walk through Stone Street Coffee and speak to a bouncer (you are dangerously close to Meatpacking, after all). If you want to guarantee yourself entry, make a reservation. As the name would indicate, gin is the focus, and there’s a bathtub. You can also catch live music and DJs most nights." - Bryan Kim, Matt Tervooren

"Bathtub Gin shamelessly commits to the speakeasy theme. Hidden behind Stone Street Coffee in Chelsea, the room is covered in black-and white-photos and antique wallpaper, and it’s full of couches and upholstered booths where people on dates tend to forget they’re in public. All of the servers wear suspenders, flickering candles provide most of the lighting, and the soundtrack consists of authentic Prohibition-era songs such as Boys II Men’s “I’ll Make Love To You.” It’s all a little corny, but it works. Bring some out-of-towners or someone you’re romantically involved with, and try the ‘Smores Old Fashioned." - bryan kim, sonal shah

Atmosphere 8.5/10 Dark atmosphere with cozy lighting. A lot of details in the interior design. And a freakin’ metal bathtub in the middle of the bar. Nice back bar. Music volume is pleasant and allows a conversation Drinks 7/10 Decent cocktails. Average presentation and garnish. No coasters. Service 7/10 Bartenders were nice and attentive with all customers. No water served with the drinks. Prices are average for NYC. Minus points for bathroom attendants - I really don’t enjoy anyone forced on me to open a door, squeeze soap and give me towels - with a “tip venmo” QR code next to it… Overall good bar for a cocktail with friends when in Chelsea

Pretty cozy & nice speakeasy. Has a coat check as you enter. The place is more for drinks than food I would say. Food is pretty decent not many options but whatever is in the menu, is good. I really liked the shrimp toast. The cocktails are good too. Good music & ambiance. Definitely make a reservation if u want to sit down & eat.

I had a blast, I went to celebrate my birthday and I had a lot of fun. I strongly recommend going when they host a burlesque show.

One of my goto speakeasies in the city. Very nice people at the door who allowed me in without a reservation. There’s a free coat check upon entering. Lovely cocktails, lovely music, overall great experience.

Stumbled upon this gem of a speakeasy on a Saturday night -- didn't have a reservation but was seated in ~10mins! Drinks were great, and would absolutely come back to try more of their menu!

Very cool place for an excellent cocktail. The door/coat check people were super nice… they really kicked off the experience right by being welcoming, nice, and funny. I love the low lighting and prohibition era decor of the bar (I hate QR code menus though, but I get it). The drinks are very high quality, which is expected. The gin selection is excellent and it’s well worth the visit if you are a fan of the spirit.

Enjoyed cocktails at bathtub gin twice, each time, the cocktails were top quality! The service is great, and the atmosphere is nice, but not bougie. Definitely go on a night when there is burlesque! The MC , or Femme-C was delightfully, off-color and entertaining. The acts were all very good, and we even got to enjoy one of my favorite burlesque dancers, Medianoche. Highly recommended, will definitely return!

A gem of a place. Really cosy and intimate. Our server was pretty miserable so they lose a star but everyone else was great. They kept your water topped up every couple of minutes too. Overall an excellent place with good service. Food is limited but very nice. The fries were awesome.
