Very Authentic! We stopped by with out a reservation and got a seat. Very thankful it wasn’t very crowded on this night. But as the night progressed the place did fill up! (Make reservation) The area is up and coming and I actually got parking on the street around the corner. This was very convenient. I was with some meat eaters so they ordered meat dishes and I had the vegetarian option of course. They kept mine separate! Very happy they accommodated. Place was quiet and very open. It wasn’t cramped. Very clean Bathrooms. I must return to try this place again.

We were the only ones here at 5:30 pm on a Sunday night. Service was friendly and quick. Tried tej, Ethiopian honey wine, for the first time. Salty & sweet. Shared the meat platter with my partner. Plenty of injera was served alongside it. Simple and tasty food.

The food is great, but the portions are somewhat frugal. Their non-vegetarian tasting platter doesn’t incorporate much, we had to add the tibs which became the star of the dish. Other than the portions and selections, the taste was good, the atmosphere is friendly, and the service is great.

Walked in for dinner on a Wednesday night (6pm) and was seated right away. Food was delicious, would highly recommend! Loved the restaurant vibes, it felt intimate. Staff was friendly and provided great recommendations.

The place looks nice however, the service was lacking. We didn't have to wait to get to our table. After we place our order, no water was served to us, we have to ask for it after a while, no napkins were given also, and the food is eaten with our hands. There's no hand sanitizer either. Based on the small quantity of food we got, it was kind of pricey. Our 1st time trying Ethiopian food so can't compare it to others but I can say the food was okay.

We had an enjoyable meal at bati Ethiopian kitchen. We really loved the spicy crispy injera bread, the stewed chicken, the beef stew, the lamb stew and all of the vegan dishes. I love how dramatic the combination platter looks! I enjoyed the Ethiopian beer I had, It was very light and refreshing. I'm not sure I consider getting one chicken drumstick in a chicken dish a good value. Seemed a bit short. Also the sauteed beef dish was tough. We left fat and happy.

Incredible ambience inside, dim lighting but beautiful interior decor. Great quick service. Tried the meat and vegetarian sampling platters for four people, which was just the right amount of food. I found everything to be delicious and served with plenty of yummy injera. Would love to return!

server (think it's spelled khyrsten) mentioned a TEA which is the carafe i saw on the counter while eating at the bar. It has steeped cardamom and other spices. she then told me the staff tends to add lime juice and sugar to sweeten it. i get the check and was charged as a $10 MOCKTAIL. I was under the impression i was getting a tea because that's what she called it initially & how it was explained to me. i even asked her to not make it "too sweet". that wouldn't have even been a question if i knew i was getting a mocktail and the prefect opportunity for her to clarify... it's not the end of the world or would stop me from coming back but definitely annoying. you tell someone a tea and they'll expect a tea price. not a 12oz, $10 beverage.

Holy flavor!!! This was my first time trying Ethiopian food and now I'm hooked. I've now tried a few other spots and this still remains my top so far. I even love getting this food to-go. I've only tried the vegetarian platter but can't recommend this enough. So packed with textures and spices, it tickles your taste buds in all the right way. Also can't recommend the spicy Kategna enough. SO DELICIOUS. Love the chill vibe in here, great for catching up with friends. Service is awesome. Can't wait to come back! 5/5

We've been here several times. The food has always been good. The service is good when it's not too full. The ambiance feels very generically African which is cool...even if Ethiopia is pretty far away from the Nigerian Afrobeats music they play. But it does give it a nice vibe. Drinks are good too. Overall, I'd say it's a great date night spot or spot to try a new cuisine with friends. Get more than you think you want so that you don't leave hungry.

Stopped in for their grand opening never had Ethiopian food before so I was really excited to try this new cuisine. My friend and I shared the sampler which I included a picture of and we enjoyed the different options it came with. I had the Ethiopian expresso martini which was ok, also they don't offer utensils as to keep the dining very authentic

The first thing I noticed about the place was how good it looked. It was lit with dim light, which created a great atmosphere. The service was impeccable; we were seated pretty quickly. The servers were very kind and friendly. The food itself was amazing. I had never tried Ethiopian food before, but it was a fantastic first-time experience that opened a whole new door for me. I will definitely be coming back.

One of the better Ethiopian restaurants on the city and the ambiance inside is great. We're glad that they started to serve in-person: I'm sorry to see how many bad reviews they've gotten with their takeout service, which I've admittedly not tried. It really doesn't seem like the type of food that travels well. Anyhow, we usually get the vegetarian combination for two and tried the honey mead with it this time: An excellent pairing that should be tried by all.

First time I ordered from them was pretty good! It came in a great container to properly scoop the stew and veg with injera! The injera was nice and warm, the beef stew was a bit watery but the lentils and cabbage were great! The second time I got much less food in little cups. Difficult to eat from as well. The injera was stale and the lentils were soupy all of a sudden as well as the beef being more liquid than meat?? Good flavors but I don't want to pay almost 30 dollars for this... Inconsistent

Some of the best Ethiopian food I've had in NY! I met a couple friends here for dinner before a ballet at BAM. I'm vegan and another friend is vegetarian, so this place was ideal. We ordered the Vegan Combination Platter for 3 people, so we got to enjoy an enormous plate of spongy injera bread topped with generous portions of 7 or more dishes - lentils, chickpeas, collard greens, cabbage, beets... delicious and nutritious! Plenty of protein as well. For dessert, we ordered their baklava (also vegan!). It was so rich that we couldn't finish - I'll save more room next time ;)

What a lovely place. After being mistreated by staff at nearby Olea, my date and I decided to go here for dinner. Their smiles, kindness and care should have been enough to fix an evening that was almost ruined. But to compliment it, their food was delicious! No wonder its always packed. The food is tasty, spicy and exotic. But again - what make my day is to see their smile and treating guests with kindness, unlike Olea.

Came for dinner the Saturday night before Christmas and the restaurant was mostly empty, which made us a little nervous. But then we had the food....and now I cannot understand how this place could ever be empty. The food was fabulous, the vibe was great, and everyone was so nice. We asked for a "tasting" of both the meat and vegan dishes, and left it up to our server to choose for us. She did not disappoint. Everything was so flavorful and very filling; we had to take the rest home because we were so stuffed! If I could eat here every day, I probably would. Can't wait to come back!

We hit this spot shortly after ingesting way too many edibles. Well I ate the correct amount but my girlfriend went overboard which later led to a series of unfortunate events, but more on that later. Being that our DNA was cannabis infused, obviously we lost track of time and money and maybe ordered too much or too little food, can't be sure, can't remember. Bati is good enough. Your standard Ethiopian dish selections (but no sambusas here). The portions are somewhat small for the price. A vegetarian combo for one, priced at 16 bucks gives you a spoonful of four dishes of your choice (lentils, split peas, collard greens etc) served on injera accompanied with One injera on the side. For some reason they price their mushroom dish (engudai tibs) separately ($18) and that can only be ordered with two dishes. All other Ethiopian restaurants I've visited include it in their veggie combo. The food is good and their ater kik alicha (yellow split pea stew) is probably one of my favourites out of all the various Ethiopian restaurants throughout Brooklyn and Manhattan, but I always leave somewhat hungry. As far as ambiance, it's a small but nice space, dimly lit and good for a date or a few friends. They also serve my favourite St. George's lager which is always a plus.

Decided to order takeout from Bati after looking for a truck in the area and never finding it. We ordered the chicken and beef entrees. They were both underwhelming. First there is no meat . The prices are too high for a drumstick and a meatless beef stew. The injera is too dry, too thin and too sour. I know that's how it's supposed to be but with both stews and sides also being sour I found it hard to stomach and my mouth was dry all day after. I really wanted to like this restaurant but I don't see myself going to any Ethiopian restaurant in a very long time.

Caveat: I was ready to let go of the late order due to covid19, but the food was terrible. 1) this place took 1.5 hours to get my order delivered. They delayed it 4 times. They never contacted me when they arrived. They left the food on a different floor at a different letter (I am F, they left it at R). I only stumbled upon it by accident when I went downstairs to check why it was taking so long. 2) the food was sub par. The injera was dry and thin like a stale tortilla and was almost offensively cracked; pieces broke off like a cracker. This place is either diluting the injera with wheat, or they are adding too much water, or something. The shiro was very watery. The missr was passable, as was the alicha. Overall a disappointment. 3) one star because I learned about buticha and key sir and zero stars is not an option. It is always good to expand my knowledge of ethiopian food.

My boyfriend took me to this spot to start our "Alphabet Date" series, where we switch off and plan a date for each other for a letter of the alphabet. He wanted to start and A was for African food! This place is a cute, cozy spot in Clinton Hill. It's great for a romantic date night with its dark tables and mood lighting. They only have beer and wine so we didn't drink but the options they had seemed good. We ordered the Kategna for an app and the Meat Combo for Two for dinner, along with Baklava for dessert. Kategna- These were toasted triangles of injera brushed with berbere and kibe. They were nice and crunchy with the right amount of spice. Meat Combo- I really liked everything that was there- stewed lamb, beef, and we got the gomen as our veggie side. The injera was delicious and sopped up all the curries perfectly. Baklava- Nice size piece that was warm and crunchy, yet soft and sweet. Looking forward to my next visit!

I'm Abesha and normally I don't go to any Ethiopian restaurants not vetted by the Orange County Ethiopian Orthodox Church. However, my girlfriend and I wanted to treat one of our friends to Ethiopian food near Prospect Park and there, in the distance, was a small, cozy, dimly lit Bati. The fit fit (a vegan appetizer featuring fresh tomatoes, lemon, some spices, peppers and injera) was tart, fresh, brisk and titillating. The kitfo (Ethiopian steak tartare) was silk soft, herb infusing butter was deep and satisfying and suddenly, at the back of your throat, sweeping up like a summer breeze, was the aftertaste of roasted birds eye chili's, the fat of perfect beef, and the grounding earthiness of freshly made injera. The doro wot veered perilously close to mole territory but the balance of sautéed onions, berbere, butter, and chicken was good. The ybeg wot, a lamb based stew was equal party savory, savory sweet, and melt in your mouth. The Tej (honey wine) was not overly sweet, strong, and had a pleasant hoppiness. Overall: Date place- 9/10 Wine- 8/10 Food- 10/10 I would squarely put this at the level of Awash and Ghenet

Highly recommend the $18 vegetarian combination! It's for one person but if you're like me it makes two meals... they're not stingy with the injera, and the to go containers are practically divided. Order online (not by phone), and after your order is confirmed you get a countdown to when it's ready! Nice. You can choose the four options you want, and the only one that's not available in the combination is the mushroom. The berbere lentils are delicious but not too spicy. Nothing else comes close to spicy, but I guess you could ask them to liven it up a bit. The collard greens are good, as are the beets. We tried the chickpeas with onion and weren't so impressed (it's kind of a plain paste), but the cabbage is excellent and so are the split peas. My dining companion recommends the chicken with egg, which is a bit spicy. I think next time I'll take the mushrooms, which come with two sides, and for those I'd choose the berbere lentils and collard greens. The Ethiopian beers are good too, especially the pale one. I'm excited for covid to be over eventually so that we feel safe dining here in person!

The staff also turned away a group that wanted to wait for a table, even though we were just getting ready to leave and they totally could have been seated where we were. As spices go, the food was flavorful but not particularly spicy... Not more than "mild" salsa. Great place to go with vegan friends!

The buticha and the key sir are amazing, especially together. I will give this place that--both are the best I've ever had. And the rest of the dishes are generally good--the injera is a bit thinner and less sour than I like, and they barely give you any injera at all, but whatever. On food alone this would be a 4-star place. The bulk of this negative review comes down to service and cleanliness, both of which are abysmal. For one thing there was no soap in the bathroom--sure there was a soap bottle, but it was bone dry. No paper towels or hand dryer in the bathroom either. Also no hand wipes or towels brought to the table as a lot of ethiopian places do, since you'll be using your hands. No hand sanitizer anywhere either. If I hadn't brought my own hand sanitizer it would be impossible to eat here in a cleanly way whatsoever. On top of that, the service is abysmal--took a half hour for them to take our order, and an hour for them to bring the check and charge the card. Plus an item from our check never showed up, with no mention of the fact that they were out of it until the very end of the meal. With so many great ethiopian places in NYC, there is no reason for me to ever go here again. This is essentially a dive, and not in the fun way, in the disgusting way.

It took a long time to take our order. It took a long time for her to get us a bottle of mead. I watched the waiter sit and talk for 5 minutes before even attempting to get the bottle. After a bit of misunderstanding with our order, we got our food. Everything was great. The portions look small but end up being really filling after eating a bunch of Injera (Ethiopian Flatbread).

Ethiopian cuisine at its finest: slowly simmered stews, perfectly prepared njere and warm, friendly service makes this a can't miss spot. When my Ethiopian friend said this is her favorite restaurant, I knew we had to experience it. Her recommendation did not disappoint. The collard greens (gomen) and cabbage (tikil gomez) were not overcooked- a personal pet peeve - but weren't raw either. My Ethiopian favorite - especially on my plant based diet- is Missir Wett (berbere stewed split lentils) was amazing as well. Njere kept coming upon request and the staff were very accommodating. To get the most use of the space and bang for your buck- as well as get the most of the Ethiopian cultural experience- order the same thing for your whole party (not individual plates). They will allow you to add additional options if you need and it's the best way to go! It makes for a really fun dining experience as well!

Stumbled upon this neighborhood in Clinton Hill off Fulton, it's a cute, romantic Ethiopian restaurant, great for a date night. I ordered the beef tibs, the gomen and the bebiere lentils with a glass of Cab. Great relaxing evening.

I give this place 4 stars because this is the 2nd Ethiopian restaurant that I have been to and I like this place much better. Ethiopian in Brooklyn is much better than DC Ethiopian in my opinion. The Ambience was nice, food good, the only problem was they didn't have ice for their ice water. Prices were typical for that area. Average $18-$22 per dish. Their injera was delicious the best I had so far. Nice slow cooked dishes.

Bati did not disappoint! After going to another restaurant that only served brunch at the time, we came right to Bati. The food was delicious. Salem was very patient and helpful in explaining the dishes and combinations to be eaten in. She was very attentive and very pleasant. I've been to Bati a few years back and wanted to try something new, now I know better. Always go to Bati.

The is the second time in a couple of weeks that I've tested the validity of a yelp three star rating and the second time I wish I hadn't. I've had Ethiopian cuisine before and while there was nothing extremely wrong, the fare seemed quite bland and flavorless. I had the mixed meat platter and to drink I had the honey wine. I liked the honey wine but the meat on the mixed meat platter didn't taste fresh or tender. The injera was a. It too sour for my liking. The service and ambience was okay, the lighting was quite poor. l'm not sure if that is intentional to create some sort of ambience, but is was a little hard to see what you are eating. I doubt I'll visit here again.

I love Ethiopian food and have tried a bunch of places. The quantity of the food that you get in the combo meal is just sooooo small. It absolutely does not make sense. My friend and I had to order more food and finished more than half of the two other entrees we got. The food is tasty but I would never come back. They're also very slow with bringing out the food. We had finished our respective glasses of wine by the time the food came out.

I've had Ethiopian all over the country; LA, Miami, Orlando, Texas, Brooklyn, Harlem, etc. But I don't understand why the food is so watered down and so little in portion? I felt as if I was having soup with injera.

But when I received my food, grease was leaking into the bag and my entire meat combination looked like piles of grease and I jerk that seemed older and over cooked. I could not distinct which meat dish was which because of the layers of grease sitting on top. I will not be ordering again

I had high hopes, since the restaurant is so centrally located in Brooklyn, and I LOVE Ethiopian food. I initially was headed for Injera (which for some reason, is NOW CLOSED), so this was a tentative second choice. The service was marvelous but, alas, the food was NOT. The lentil stews were soupy and lukewarm, the doro wat was skimpy, and (despite the good service), the wait staff was unusually stingy with injera and napkins. (We had to ask for them every couple of minutes.) Nothing we ordered was memorable. And I hate paying for food that isn't memorable.
