Elegant historic hotel with Michelin dining & lake views

"They don’t make ’em like this anymore. The sophisticated, refined, and completely welcoming vibe you’ll experience upon merely walking in Baur au Lac’s front doors makes it easy to see how this family-run hotel has been going strong for generations. In fact, the hotel first opened its doors in 1844, and while much has changed on the surface level (no stale decor and furnishings here), the strong hospitality and old-school charm remain fully intact. Rooms, from the most basic category to the suites, do their best to make you feel at home with tailor-made furniture, spacious workspaces, and unique art pieces. Those determined to fight off jet lag could do worse than visit the fitness facility, which, blessedly, offers views of Lake Zürich and Woodway treadmills. For an additional pick-me-up, the hotel’s afternoon tea offering—Länggass, finger sandwiches, and freshly baked scones with seasonal fruit jams and authentic English clotted cream—ought to do the trick." - Stacey Lastoe

"In Zurich, Baur au Lac remains family led, currently in the hands of the sixth and seventh generations of the Kracht family, reflecting the blend of cultural memory and modern hospitality that characterizes many legacy hotels." - Heidi Mitchell

"With a history stretching back to the mid-19th century, this grand hotel commands your attention with its classical architecture. Once inside, the charm of the past is combined with thoroughly modern luxury. The result is a hotel characterized by its timeless chic, as evidenced by the exceptionally stylish furnishings across the rooms, junior suites, and suites. Homely colors and a wonderful attention to detail mean that every inch of the hotel provides a reassuring level of luxury and comfort. What’s more, each one offers a view, either of the inner courtyard, the city, the park, or Lake Zurich. And as an added bonus: every year, shortly before the opening of “Art Basel,” art exhibitions are held in the hotel's own park." - The MICHELIN Guide
"Every neighbourhood in London should have a no-nonsense, comforting restaurant. Those ones where if you live nearby, you probably eat there at least once a week because it’s just so bloody easy and so bloody good. Au Lac is one of those. It’s a family-run Vietnamese restaurant just down the road from Highbury Barn that’s been serving tasty as anything food for years. The mince pork and dry fish with aubergine is something you’ll end up coming in to eat alone (or order for takeaway), and the same goes for their Ha Noi fish. A no-brainer that will make you want to move into the neighbourhood." - jake missing

"Truly exceptional for a remarkable legacy, having been managed by the Kracht family since 1844 across seven generations, and for an unparalleled setting within a private park—removed from the bustle, wrapped in greenery, and framed by panoramic views of the Swiss Alps and Lake Zurich. A steadfast commitment to investment delivers continual renovations and modernizations that balance tradition with innovation, yielding a harmonious blend of historical charm and modern splendor. EHL’s international environment translates here into ease with diverse relationships, meaningful connections, and a keener understanding of a global clientele to better serve guests." - Le Guide MICHELIN
