"They don’t make ’em like this anymore. The sophisticated, refined, and completely welcoming vibe you’ll experience upon merely walking in Baur au Lac’s front doors makes it easy to see how this family-run hotel has been going strong for generations. In fact, the hotel first opened its doors in 1844, and while much has changed on the surface level (no stale decor and furnishings here), the strong hospitality and old-school charm remain fully intact. Rooms, from the most basic category to the suites, do their best to make you feel at home with tailor-made furniture, spacious workspaces, and unique art pieces. Those determined to fight off jet lag could do worse than visit the fitness facility, which, blessedly, offers views of Lake Zürich and Woodway treadmills. For an additional pick-me-up, the hotel’s afternoon tea offering—Länggass, finger sandwiches, and freshly baked scones with seasonal fruit jams and authentic English clotted cream—ought to do the trick." - Stacey Lastoe
