"Before Redbud, the Anchor address had been Austin restaurant group Tatsu-ya’s barbecue ramen restaurant BBQ Ramen Tatsu-ya. That opened in October 2022 but closed in June 2023, with plans on reopening it somewhere else." - Nadia Chaudhury

"The Tatsu-ya group decided to shutter its barbecue ramen restaurant in mid-June. The company plans on reopening the restaurant somewhere else at a later time, and there are no immediate plans for the original address. The space had been home to the important Austin restaurant Contigo, which closed in December 2021. The Tatsu-ya group opened BBQ RAmen in October 2022." - Nadia Chaudhury

"From the folks behind the sprawling Tatsu-Ya empire is BBQ Ramen Tatsu-Ya, a concept that mixes Texas-style barbecue with ramen and other Japanese bites. That means things like brisket ramen with smoked chicken broth, aged cheddar pimento cheese with wasabi, and smoked beef tallow gyoza. It’s located off 38th ½ street, in the former Contigo space." - Nicolai McCrary

Ramen lovers, this is a must-try. I'm a huge fan of the Tatsu-Ya brand already so I had to give them a go here and I was not disappointed. The theme here is big bold Texas flavors integrated with the traditional flavors of ramen. The bbq-ramen fusion works well. The flavors of the BBQ can be a bit overpowering in the broth but it balances well with the smoked jalapeños. We all loved the food but the dining experience didn't come without some hiccups. We were there on their first night of them doing full service before it was pay and order first. Our server Lindsey was terrific, he made perfect recommendations and explained the menu very well. Some dishes did take a bit long to receive. Overall it was a great meal, my family and u will be returning soon. Final analysis, homemade noodles stand out they're delicious & order #23 off the menu smoked chicken ramen, it's delightful

The ambiance of bbq tatsuya hits a pleasant note, drawing one into a fun and relaxing atmosphere. The design of the bowl is cute with texas written in hiragana. The reason for the low rating is the execution missed its mark. The idea of ramen meets texas bbq initially seemed exciting. However, the soup is overwhelmingly smoky making it far from enjoyable. Ramen tastes bitter, smoky and oily. The brisket torishio was particularly bitter smoky with no redeeming quality. The ramen we ordered came with thick noodles like udon, which is odd. The portion of the noodles is small. The presentation of the two ramen felt bare and not appetizing. The service was slow. Not sure if I was coming on a bad day. Bbq tatsuya feels like a missed opportunity, leaving much to be desired.

Edit: They used to be really good for their soft opening. Now everything's way too salty! Recipe is too inconsistent or the cooks who should be replicating the chef's dish are slacking. Back then we were even able to drink the soup to the bottom where we saw the cute message on the bottom of the bowl, but ever since their grand opening, none of our friends can finish their ramen because it is way too salty. Seems like the big boss needs to come in and fix up what the cooks are making. Even their cocktail ratio was way off and left us not wanting more. They need to re-assess the recipe and re-train their cooks/bartenders to make what they used to make. Absolutely love their passion for innovation and creativity. This one of a kind ramen is a must try. Every ingredient in the bowl is there for a reason, through thorough testing of the dishes. If you look closely there's a missing number on the ramen list: they're still working on more unique ramen. I've been here 3 times since their soft opening and they never cease to amaze me. Texas Torisho (they recently changed this dish name from brisket shoyu ramen) is their classic brisket ramen. Try it with their brisket otoro and your cheeks will fall off your face. The toppings (tomato, pickled greens, SMOKED nori seaweed) balance out the fatty brisket, leaving you wanting more. Nibo nibo is an addicting niboshi broth with juicy roast beef. Mazemen is a unique cold, soupless noodle and very refreshing, perfect for a quick lunch stop. Their cocktail is amazing as well, my favorite is the one with frozen rum and calpico. Can't stop won't stop. The gyoza is very meaty and the sauce goes perfectly in hand. Their merch design is on point and when we suggested they sell the cute ramen bowls too, they had it out in the storefront for sale the next time we visited. Proof that they listen to their customers. Staff is SUPER friendly all around. My only complaint is that I want some kind of a rice dish!

Once is enough - cool concept, reputable name, but it does not live up to the hype. The innovative BBQ ramen aka Texas Japanese fusion was hyped up all over social media prior to its opening. The place: Large indoor and outdoor seating area. Perfect for group dining/hangout. However, there can be a line still because of the lack of servers. Food and price: Let's start with the ramen. I had the most popular brisket ramen. The broth is chicken broth which is bold, rich, and a bit salty. Then adding some moist brisket on top makes the entire bowl overwhelmed. The toppings (ginger, tomato, etc.) have the acidity to balance it off, but it didn't work. You are left with a mouthful of fatty and salty flavor. The appetizers are also not impressive. The UFO Gyoza and sliders have the same issue as the brisket ramen - off balance and salty. With a drink and above, you are looking at at least $50 for the entire meal. Overall, BBQ and ramen can be on a date, but just not a long-term relationship.

The atmosphere was perfect outdoors, the playlist was lit and Gamal, our server, was the kindest most attentive person ever! Of course, the food was AMAZING. Will definitely be making many return trips!!

Went for lunch with my gf and our puppy. Yes you can bring dogs, since there is seating outside. Started with the UFO Gyoza and chopped brisket sliders, both of those were great! My gf and I both got the #20 TEXAS RED TSUKEMEN, FRITO PIE KAEDAMA. It’s dip ramen, meaning you’re supposed to grab the noodles and dip them in the “chili broth”. Once you’re done with your noodles you throw the Fritos both on the leftover chili to make a frito pie. I really liked this but was too impatient with all the dipping, so I just threw it all into one ball and enjoyed it that way. I will say thinner noodles would be better with this dish, since it’s pretty dense anyways. Also ordered the J’Potato Salad, and I was absolutely not a fan, I was expecting traditional potato salad and it’s nothing like that. It is very cucumber based dish which I was not a fan of. My gf and I shared a banana ice cream cookie sandwich for dessert, that was good also. My gf tried getting a cider but they were out so the waiter sold her on a cocktail. Our total after tip was about $115-120.

Super tasty! The best part of the ramen was the egg, absolutely amazing! How you get the entire egg to be so seasoned is a wonder. Broth was flavorful and noodles were cooks well too.

Went for happy hour and half off apps on weekends 2-5pm is a great deal. Got the snack trio and nachos. Very interesting bean dip with a cheddar foam on top. Pimento cheese was a little small but probably a bigger portion if one orders it separately. The nachos had a good amount of sauce and brisket but heavier on the picked ginger.

Yelp
Another Tatsu-ya restaurant added to the portfolio, and my expectations were high. However... you are better off staying at the original Ramen Tatsu-ya. BBQ Ramen Tatsu-ya serves exactly what it's namesake states, ramen + BBQ. However, this newest fusion just didn't make the cut for me. I ordered the Smoked Shoyu Paitan, which is more soy-sauce based and served with brisket compared to the OG Shio Paitan, which is salt-based and served with chicken. If you can stand grease, no issue with the broth. But, unfortunately being in your 30s, that wasn't the case for me. The broth is packed with it, and was way too salty for my palette. Strangely, I expected a moist brisket to go along with this meal, but a leaner cut was served, which was tougher to bite into. The best thing on the menu was hands down the UFO Gyoza. It takes about 20 mins to cook, and worth every minute. The inside is moist and flavorful, and the outside crispy. We also tried the two sliders on the menu: the Tatsu-ya RB Slider & the Chopped Brisket Slider, which were both the perfect starters to our meal. Come during happy hour, where all appetizers are 50% off! Lastly, I also ordered the Munchie Trio, but wasn't impressed with either of the two dips: the bean dip and the pimento aged cheese.

Jennifer G.

Yelp
I have been looking forward to trying the brisket ramen and it didn't disappoint. I highly recommend trying and adding in the beef/shrimp wontons. We tried the Shrimpy Pecans and they fell short of flavor as well as texture. We also tried the BBQ Tsukemen it was a hit! They are dipping noodles so be prepared to slurp away! I did order the Bawi Lime drink and it wasn't my vibe. But if you enjoyed those salty lime Lucas packets as a kid it may just be your thing. All in all a great customer service experience the staff was friendly and prompt. The ambiance is welcoming as well as takes you away and makes you feel out of the Austin hustle vibe. If your looking for a new ramen experience I highly recommend.

Yelp
BBQ Ramen Tatsu-ya differs from normal Asian fusion restaurants because they artfully combine distinctive Texan and Japanese flavors together. It was very easy to, on a whim, find reservations for a Friday dinner which is almost unheard of in Austin. In fact, I don't even think there would be a wait for walk ins, especially on the patio. Despite that, service was pretty slow and our food took a while to come out. We ended up sharing the munchie trio and we built our own ramen bowl with brisket and avocado. All of the flavor combinations were excellent. The brisket pretty much fell apart and the noodles had a nice chew to them. We left completely full and I would even say one appetizer and a bowl of ramen would have been enough for the two of us. The ramen is definitely on the pricier side but I would definitely have left overs if I had to finish a bowl by myself.

Yelp
Ramen Tatsu-ya is one of my Austin staples so this variation has been on the list for a few weeks! You walk into a large patio with a bar towards the back where you can order cocktails while you wait for your table. They have some fun cocktails, sake, and wine/beer. We got the UFO Gyoza to start which was amazing. The cilantro chili oil dipping sauce is delicious and pairs with the dumplings perfectly. The brisket torisho was honestly underwhelming given how much hype it got. The broth has a lot of flavor but that's about it. The spicy tonton mazemen on the other hand is DELICIOUS. Must-order for sure. It has crispy ramen, pork ramen, spicy cucumbers, cilantro chili oil...literally perfection. All in all, would recommend at least one visit. The noodles are incredible- they're handmade daily and chewy. Broth-wise I would say the original ramen tatsuya still reigns supreme.

Yelp
Really cute spot! Come for happy hour half off apps and happy hour priced drinks. Cocktails are fun and delicious. Gyoza and sliders were great. I liked the beef sliders most. I've had the ramen before but thought it was too Smokey. Not terrible, just not for me.

Joshua M.

Yelp
Overall Score 4.5 out of 5 I have seen the reviews on this place prior to coming. And to be fair this place deserves way more credit! Their spot is a cool vibe inside and out. The location isn't great but that's ok. Now the food was really good. The gyoza was delicious with the sauce. The brisket sliders were delicious too, but these were tiny. I got the mazemen which doesn't come with any sauce or broth and added brisket. Even though the noodles weren't ramen noodles, this was delicious. My girlfriend got the chicken paitan, but the broth wasn't very good and the noodles were not as chewy as she'd like. But over all definitely worth coming even if it is just for the mazemen & brisket sliders!!!!

Yelp
I'm gonna be real with you guys. This has got to be in the top 3 worst foods I've eaten in austin and the other 2 were cooked by me. First the positives, the ambiance is nice and the restaurant itself looks great. They have an extensive drink menu, so this could be a good spot if you're looking to grab some drinks. I just don't know what you would eat with those drinks. I started off with the shrimp pecans. It was just weird man. I should've stopped after the first but I ate like 10 of them to give it a fair shot and be open minded and it never got better. Next the brisket ramen came out. I love brisket and I love ramen but I don't love this dish. It was more similar to a Taiwanese beef noodle soup, but a worse version. Overall this dish was at least edible, but definitely a gimmick and I would never pick this over a regular bowl of ramen. The soup was oily and heavy and the brisket might as well have been braised because the smokiness doesn't enhance the dish much. The bright spot was the gyoza, but honestly it's impossible to mess that up. It came out after the ramen which helped cleanse my palette. I think there was something fusiony about the gyoza too but it just tasted like a gyoza. I love ramen tatsuya and will continue eating ramen there but this bbq ramen feels like a forced fusion gone wrong like when Goten and Trunks mess up the fusion dance and turn into Fat Gotenks.

Yelp
We went the first week they were open and I loved the experience. We arrived a bit before opening thinking there might be a line. There really wasn't much until about 15 minutes before opening. The line forms in front of the host stand, which is off to the far left side of the restaurant. The host assigns you a table number and then your party enters the ordering hall area to make your order. After you are seated you can order anything additional at the table except noodles. If you want more ramen you have to get back in line. It may sound like a lot of steps but I thought it flowed well. I ordered the #18 which is the brisket ramen and it was sooo good! I ate every bite and found the surprise at the bottom of my bowl. We enjoyed the munchie trio at the table which has the best bean dip I've ever had. We also had the UFO gyoza. This was a different and fun way to eat a something you likely have had many times. The cocktails were super tasty and I was licking the plum salt on the rim. Do not skip the ice cream sandwich - it was a banana dream and that cookie part was bomb! I love Ramen Tatsuya and I can't wait to come back here and eat the rest of this menu!

Jenna Z.

Yelp
Hmmm this place was interesting. I've been going to Ramen Tatsuya for many years and have tried many of the spin offs (DipDipDip, Kemuri, etc.) and for the most part, I always feel like their stuff is too salty. I felt that when I went to BBQ Ramen Tatsuya. I forgot the exact name but the thing I got was a broth less noodle and then there's a frito pie after you finish your noodles. The noodles + meat dipping sauce combo felt so salty and the frito pie was kind of strange. I feel like the food as a whole is pretty heavy and not what I'm used to for ramen. Price is ok, we ordered the Gyoza UFO also which was good. Would recommend but nothing super notable imo

Ly N.

Yelp
I was excited to finally try this place but was disappointed with the food. The restaurant has a great vibe, plenty of parking, and short wait times. The shrimpy pecans were very strange. I would not recommend this to anybody. Texas Toshiro ramen was okay. The broth of the was very greasy while not being very tasty. There was a layer of oil/grease that separated from the broth and sat on top, maybe from the brisket? The UFO gyoza was the one thing I kinda enjoyed here. The dumplings were solid but came a little burnt.

Stacie H.

Yelp
RIP to Contigo but welcome to BBQ Tatsu-ya. Excited it's finally here! Make your way to the check in stand where you'll be greeted by a friendly host(ess), receive the menu, and get a run down of the ordering process. At this point, diners are asked to provide a credit card for the order and get a table number assigned. Once given the ok, proceed inside to place your order at the counter. While seated, a server is able to assist you with the caveat that you can order all items except for ramen bowls and toppings - which must be ordered back at the counter. We ordered the RB sliders, UFO gyoza, #18 Texas torisho, #19 nibo nibo, kill pecos bill and carmesi sour. The gyoza were juicy with a nice crunch and served with a spicy chili oil dipping sauce. The drinks are tequila/mezcal/sotol focused and well balanced. The noodles were a surprise and a departure from the typical Tatsu-ya style with thick noodles bordering on udon. As this is "ranch style ramen", there is a massive serving of meat. That being said, the noodle portion was on the smaller side and I felt like I was rationing as I progressed through the bowl. The Texas torisho has a zing from all of the ginger and a beautiful smokey tomato. For the nibo nibo, be warned that it is very anchovy-forward. When it was presented, the server explained to squeeze the lemon halfway through, but the lemon in question was a tiny broth-soaked sliver. I later requested a lemon wedge and it was a game changer and really helped to cut through the broth. I could definitely do without the included avocado. I'll be back to give more options a try!

Yelp
Super excited to try this new restaurant. My friends and I came late in a Friday night and didn't have to wait too long for a table. You order your food as soon as you come in, then sit at your assigned table. I got the Onibaba, which tasted like a hard tea and the spicy tonton mazemen. The spicy tonton mazemen doesn't have any broth. Instead it's filled with crunchy and soft noodles, fresh herbs, pork belly, and a runny egg. Incredibly flavor all around. Will be coming back for more!

Sandi G.

Yelp
I'm a bit torn on the rating for this place. The brisket was very good but brisket ramen, not so much. BBQ and ramen is not a good combo even though that's the fusion that this restaurant is going for. I ordered the brisket ramen and the broth seems to be vinegar based and really heavy and oily. I don't know if if was just me but my bowl came with little to no noodles so I had to ordered extra noodles to mild down the saltiness of the broth. My friend and I also shared the gyoza and it was very good. I think if I was to come back, it would be for the appetizers not the ramen. Overall, a pretty chill location with plenty of parking. The bbq ramen combo on the other hand was a complete miss.

Leila L.

Yelp
While I do miss Contigo, I like the ambiance that's similar at the new Tatsuya. Line took a while to get through, mainly due to the cashier taking the time to explain menus to everyone. The menus are short and quite different from the regular Tatsuya chain. We tried the gyoza and a chilled dipping ramen. The gyoza took a while to come out but it was hot and crispy! For the ramen, it was a chicken based broth and meat so it was lighter than the rest of the menu. The noodles had good bit but the chicken was pretty dry. My friend tried the special dipping ramen which was a heavier brisket based dish. It also tasted good, but I imagine I wouldn't be able to finish it since it was much richer. It was a warm tsukemen though. At the end you mix the dipping sauce on top of fritos to make a frito pie! Prices were a little high--I'd recommend checking it out once but it definitely isn't traditional. Expect your tastebuds confused! Would give 3.5 stars if I could.

Cathy L.

Yelp
This is Tatsu-ya's latest restaurant and as a big fan of nearly all of them (Tiki, Dipdipdip, and Kemuri) and an Asian noodle lover, I had to try their newest one. Parking - extremely easy, very large lot. Right next to Southwest Greenery for a pre or past dinner walk around the lake. Environment - the atmosphere and curated look of a Tatsuya is always impeccable. They had a firepit and heat lamps outside with string lights. Great for summer nights. Citrus Dipping Ramen - So it's not quite your traditional japanese ramen, but I thought the flavors were really unique, well balanced. The noodle texture is incredible, perfect chewiness. Each component of the ramen (from the dipping sauce, noodles, chicken/meat, egg, to the charred orange) was well done and thoughtfully put together. I already want to go back and eat this again.

Matthew P.

Yelp
BBQ Ramen I was very excited to try this place as the fusion seems very Texan. But was disappointed with my meal and the flavors that it lacked. I ordered the brisket ramen (#18) and this was recommend by all the staff. The broth was very bland and not too flavorful. The brisket was greasy (which was expected) but this bled into the broth. The vegetables and other items in the ramen also had no flavor, which was a bummer. Bright side: the brisket was cooked really well! - just needs a lot more seasoning and flavors. We also had the shrimp pecans which were just eh, nothing too special. It was a cold day so we got Hot Toddy's and these were very good! This cocktail was made perfect - loved it.

Sonya T.

Yelp
Interesting would be my descriptor of choice. The food here was for sure a fusion of ramen and BBQ, but the flavors just didn't hit for me. Now, that doesn't mean that the dishes lacked flavor. Rather the flavor combinations were just a little odd. For example, the Spicy TonTon Mazeman had a strong flavor but it veered a bit fishy whereas I was looking for stronger BBQ and chili oil flavors. It was also lukewarm which perhaps I should've known. The meat, on the other hand, was wonderful! We also ordered the Frito Pie ramen which I would recommend out of the two. Overall, portion sizes were on the smaller side in that we all felt like we could eat more afterwards. The noodles were also reminiscent of thick udon noodles as opposed to the typical ramen noodles. I'd say try this place out for an interesting flavor experience, but stick with Ramen Tatsuya for some crazy good ramen.

Eric B.

Yelp
Ambiance and vibe--excellent. Ramen--excellent. Cumcumber, pickled shishito, potato salad, meh, but slaw and mustard greens--excellent. OG chicken and fishy broths with pulled smoked chicken and roast beef, respectively, both excellent. Pimento Cheese dip--OMG--a star is born. Dogs allowed outside--huge plus! Drinks--top notch, but not one Japanese beer on tap?!? Host and initial greeting and knowlege of menu excellent service...waiting on tab--slow. Can't wait to try more.

Andrew L.

Yelp
Came here for dinner on a Friday evening. We only had to wait about 10 minutes around 7p for a table of 5 to be seated. Unless this location really takes off like their traditional Ramen locations I wouldn't worry too much about a long wait. I was sad when Contigo closed at this location, but intrigued when I learned about the premise. I thought it was an odd fit for a ramen restaraunt, given more than half the seating is outdoors. We came on what looked to be a very nice night in November, but a storm unexpectedly passed through and they were very accomodating in our request to move inside when we saw storm clouds approaching. Nevertheless it seems like a questionable choice for a bbq ramen restaraunt to lean on outdoor seating in Texas... I've had almost all positive experiences food wise at Ramen Tatsu-Ya and was really interested to try a less traditional version of their ramen. The Texas Torisho seemed to be their staple dish, so myself and the other members of my group all went for that dish. The brisket itself tasted fantastic and had an absolutely perfect smoke ring. If it were a standalone bbq plate I don't think you can do much better. However I don't feel it really worked in a ramen setting. You have to really think about it as you're eating to believe the broth is chicken based. It really tasted like what one would imagine brisket stock would be like. I think the realities of cooking with brisket make it impossible to create the balance you'd usually want in a ramen. In theory if you could just swap in brisket for pork belly in one of the traditional ramens it sounds like it would work well, but it seems to soak into the broth more and overpower every other flavor. The other dishes sound interesting enough that I'd be willing to give them another try. However I also dinged their review because the service was an absolute mess. Certainly understandable given that the location is new and I'm hopefuly my mind will be changed in a future visit. I've never understood why all of their locations have you wait in line to order and then be seated with "table service". The logistics of this are pretty clunky and make it really unclear how long it will take for you to order/be seated. We were also told we'd have full service at our table, but when one of our party members wanted to order a different ramen they were told you can't do that from your table. They later came back and said they could order from the table, but it would be at the back of the queue of people standing in line. Another small example was when we ordered they mentioned (we didn't ask) it would be no problem at all for us to split across multiple cards. However when we asked for the check the person helping us said they didn't know how to do that and needed to track down someone new. Again totally understand it's a new location, but that last piece feels like something you learn day one. Overall I'm intrigued enough to give them another try, but my first try was fairly dissapointing.

Yelp
Came here with 2 other friends for a Saturday lunch and was excited to see how Japanese Ramen and Texas BBQ could fuse together-- unfortunately, my expectations were not met. The overall restaurant and service itself was great. Our server had a great spiel since it was all 3 of us's first times there. They were very knowledgable on the menu. The ambiance gave a very Austin, rustic vibe with the smell of Texas BBQ as soon as you hit the parking lot. I ordered for the table the UFO Gyoza and individually ordered the Brisket Torisho. The UFO Gyoza was crispy but the flavor was not one to remember. The Brisket Torisho fell flat in expectations as well. I'm a huge broth / flavor gal, so immediately, I noticed how the broth itself didn't taste "clean" and was very oily. The Brisket slices itself wasn't a standout, and I felt like I've tasted more tender Chasu Pork slices in authentic ramen. I think the idea of Texas BBQ meeting Japanese Ramen is a great idea; however, I think the execution could be better.

Angela M.

Yelp
They are just as friendly and efficient at this location as their original. Love the BBQ spin. Very unique offerings and I had a very hard time figuring out what to get. I'll definitely have to come back. Same layout with shared benches, very easy to get to for me at least with alot of parking. Perfect on a gloomy day especially to warm your soul up!

Mariel T.

Yelp
I was a ride or die tatsuya fan until dinner this evening. We got: UFO gyoza - probably the only thing I'd get again BBQ trio - literal bites to add to your ramen for $6, only thing to speak of here was the sausage Spicy Tonton Mazemen - kind of tasted like chili? Needed the lime to cut through the heaviness and was ok Brisket torisho- fine This just didn't work for me, but it might for others!

Bo B.

Yelp
3.75 stars Food: Gyoza - very good Brisket sliders - tiny but delicious Mazemen with added brisket - delicious but the noodles were bigger than regular ramen noodles Chicken paitan - broth wasn't very good and the noodles were just ok; wouldn't order this

Yelp
I thought this was absolutely DELICIOUS ! I am surprised by some of the negative reviews on here regarding flavor/ fusion of ramen and bbq. To start with, the space is adorable with a large outdoor patio featuring space heaters and a cute inside area as well. The staff was super friendly and immediately explained how the ordering process worked. I brought my pup with me so we sat outside. We got the gyoza and the first ramen on the menu. The gyzo was quite tasty and came with like a crispy shell around it connecting all the dumplings. Paired with spicy chili oil. The ramen itself was SO good! It was like a broth, jalapeño, collard green, stewed tomato, and umami bomb with amazing noodles. It comes with a pretty hardy portion of brisket but I added some of the grilled chicken as well. I will definitely be back for this, I think I may like it even more than the traditional ramen that Tatsu-Ya serves. Great work from this team!

Love P.

Yelp
BBQ Ramen Tatsu-Ya has came up in conversation multiple times last week so I decided to make a reservation to go with a friend. We both really enjoyed the experience. The flavors were powerful and delicious. I recommend that you take the time to have the wait staff review the menu and and discuss the combination of flavors. BBQ is very powerful so how it blends with broth and cocktails can be amazing or questionable. I tried the Texas Res Tsukemen/Frito Pie Kaedama and it is a bowl of noodles that you dip into a separate dish made of a thick broth with brisket. Once finished with the noodles, you're instructed to put your bowl of Fritos and cheese into the broth and eat like a frito pie. The hit of the meal was the Brisket Torisho, and that is what I'll be eating on my return trip. It's a more traditional ramen with 3 large slices of brisket. The flavors were amazing. The cocktails are batch cocktails so what they list is what you get. I wasn't a fan of their selection, so I'll be skipping cocktails moving forward.

Yelp
Texas BBQ and ramen? Say less. My best friend and I picked this restaurant for our annual Christmas dinner and we were pleasantly surprised! We both agreed we would come back. There is ample parking and the vibes at night are immaculate. We both ordered the texas torisho ramen and shared our appetizers: beeeeeean dip and UFO gyoza. Delicious ramen. The broth complemented the juicy, flavorful brisket. The BBQ was definitely the star of the show. The bean dip was a great appetizer! We finished it in seconds. And the UFO gyoza was a fun and creative one as well. You really can't go wrong with fried dumplings and crunchy chili oil. I'm glad we gave this place a try for ourselves despite the some of the negative reviews. Excited to try other things on their menu on my next visit.

Yelp
Pretty curious about the food so came here on a friend's date to come to check it out. I really like the Contigo space and how Tatsu-ya made it their own but kept most of the same elements by repurposing them. We mostly came here to check out the ramen and in all honesty, it wasn't that great. I'm down for trying fusion every once in a while, but the ramen we both ordered #18Texas Torisho for $18 didn't hit the spot for me at all. It seemed a bit half-assed, the soup was really oily and lacked flavor due to all the oil in the soup. The tomato and the brisket were great along with the noodles but I think they need to do an entirely different type of broth for this to be more enjoyable. I didn't really think a restaurant known for its ramen could mess up a ramen dish so badly. I'll come back for the drinks and ambiance but until the menu changes, I don't think that this is the selling point for them.

Yelp
We were pleasantly surprised. This location uses the thick ramen noodles, which are my favorite. I noticed some low scoring reviews and politely disagree. When we went it wasn't very busy, around 8 pm. The service was great, we ordered from the bar and the bartender was super friendly. The prices are pretty good, considering our bowls were loaded with meat. The taste was great, I love the smokey bbq taste, and it works great in a soup. The broths are darker than a traditional ramen broth. Sitting outside was nice, we used to love coming to the restaurant that was here before, so we're glad it's open again. Definitely try it out, it's worth a shot, especially if you like bbq :)

Yelp
I loved their dumpling appetizer, it taste just like the ones at Din Tai Fung! Also a surprise dish is their hyper anchovy ramen. It's so so good. You take one spoonful and you just want more. Nice location vibe. I'm not a bbq fanatic, so I don't care much about the bbq. I do like their ramen and dumplings tho!

Yelp
Another one joins the Tatsu-Ya Cinematic Universe (TCU?). As an avid fan I rejoiced at the opportunity to visit being an avid fan, with that said though even though my experience was pleasant and service was top tier as always, the food left me wanting for the price paid as seemed to miss that Tatsu-Ya flare that leaves one wanting to come back. Atmosphere: The theme and vibe nails it as the brand always does. Brining in the feel of a Texas BBQ complete with outdoor patio and backyard decor to boot. Food: Both the highlight and the my main point of feedback, the food here is certainly unique but I will admit maybe hit or miss for some and at times feels like it's lacking identity. Is it BBQ or is it Ramen, what does it need to capture both? With that said the food items my party really enjoyed at the Tatsuya Sliders, just something about wasabi aioli and smoked beef hitting just right. For my main dish I got the TEXAS TORISHŌ. Certainly worth a try as it's Tatsuya's attempt at mixing BBQ and Ramen to get characteristics of both, so yes expect brisket and noodles within a broth. There were some characteristics I felt lacking though. Often when I think of BBQ I think of sauce and lots of bold smokey flavor, unfortunately this didn't really sate that, perhaps it's on creative decision and difficulty when trying to mix in the ramen characteristic. With that said, if this interests you still worth a try. Service: Great service, all staffers were friendly and helpful so no complaints. Unfortunately my first trip to BBQ-Tatsuya left me wanting, and also just wanting to try some of their venues. Like if I want BBQ then I'll go to a BBQ spot, if I want ramen I'll go to an actual ramen spot. The idea and concept is certainly unique and a welcome addition to Austin, though my hopes are that they can take some of the early feedback and really make something work here.

Yelp
This is the newest concept for the tatsuya group. The ordering system is not smoothm you order drinks outside or inside. You order food at the counter. A waiter may come around and take an additional order. Several people offer to close out the tab at the table but no one ever does. Just confusing. The food is more miss than hit. The gyoza are always good at tasuya but these seemed a little bitter and the dipping sauce has super strong sichuan peppercorn taste. The golden crust however was amazing. The appetiEr trio of pimento cheese, bean dip, candied shrimp pecans was a big disappointment. We did order it but this bean dip and cheese spread and candied pecans are just not restaurant worthy dishes. We did enjoy the very cold celery sticks to dip. There is no discernable shrimp in the pecans. Supposedley dried shrimp but even a shellfish allergic friend who ate some by accident didnt have a reaction. The ramen is good but the broth is not great. The piece of brisket was very good and the Texas red chili dipping sauce was good but it goes better with the fritos than the ramen noodles. The indoor outdoor spaces are great but not sure there are enough good menu options for this concept to work.

Yelp
Oh man... where do I even start. First I love Tatsuya, everything they do is amazing. The new place is totally something special. It's Texas Ramen at its finest. I tried to eat everything.. so here's my thoughts on the dishes I tried: SHRIMPY PECANS - its like eating an umami bomb! Seriously I could snack on these all day every day. BEEEEEEAN DIP - I've never been excited by the idea of bean dip and its really usually just not my jam.. but holy moly this is the best bean dip I've ever had. PIMENTO CHEESE - Spicy and tasty, served with celery that someone was nice enough to shave and remove the threads from. UFO GYOZA - I really wasn't sure what to expect here but the crispy and chewy delight I did get was absolutely out of this world. Some of the best gyoza I've ever had served in maybe the most interesting way I've ever seen gyoza served. TEXAS TORISHŌ - the broth on this one was totally the star and I don't even know how to start explaining it without saying it was almost like a miso based gumbo broth... and I hope that's doing it justice. The smokiness here was the star of the dish and it was soo good. #21 B&S TSUKEMEN - this one was my fav it was like dipping ramen into a vinegary BBQ sauce. The cold noodles and cold sauce make for a pleasant and refreshing bite, I added brisket and dipping the brisket in the Tsukemen was a real treat and probably the best thing I had during my visit. #22 SPICY TONTON MAZEMEN - this was a great dish but felt a little less BBQ influenced than the others... that's not to say it wasn't amazing and packed with flavor. I may need to have this one a few more times to fully appreciate it. Save room for desert..... the "ICE CREAM SANDWICH" is freaking amazing... I loved the really heavy banana flavor and the texture of the cookie was just really something special. My overall experience at BBQ Ramen Tatsuya was incredible. We arrived early and were first in line and were greeted with the smell of post oak and meat. The short wait was totally worth it and they have done an amazing job redecorating and filling out the old Contigo space. If your'e thinking about giving this spot a try.. stop thinking get dressed and get here before the line gets crazy. P.S. The drinks are bomb ass goood.... and you can step out of line to order them and get back in line.

Yelp
I wanted to love this place so badly. Though it was good, I didn't love the flavor of the Ramen. I had the Texas Torisho Ramen Bowl. The UFO Gyoza was delicious , I would absolutely order that again. The ramen was ok. It had a strong cumin flavor I feel and lacked salt. The noodles were good, and the brisket melted in your mouth. My only critique is the overall broth flavor. I was hoping it had the very tasty seasoned thick broth like their Japanese ramen broth has. I think we will be back and I will have to try a different ramen bowl to see how that compares to the first one I had. Over all I feel a 4 star is fair.

Yelp
This place is the perfect spin on everything "Tatsu-Ya" here in Austin. We started out with the trio munchies that had creaminess, crunchiness and my favorite: spicy-ness. My #22 (brothless ramen) was like a sexy Asian Mexican Italian dish all in one. So much flavor. I even added the brisket oro on top; highly recommend! I got some sweet validation from the staff for doing that which I always love. I can't remember which drink I had, but I had two, and that's probably why I can't remember which drink I had. Drunk Yelping is my favorite- ask for the pink one! YUM!

Yelp
Second visit with a friend that I was excited to have her try. Another 10 star experience. Gomal was waitperson. Very knowledgeable and quite the jokester. Again Miles was amazing and Neil once again treated us like royalty. He is the absolute best. The chef even stopped by and gave us appetizers suggestions. Everything from food to experience was exceptional!

Yelp
This was my first ramen tatsu-ya experience and it was great! The outdoor patio is lovely and has lights and heaters for a perfect night out. The bbq ramen has so much flavor that any bbq lover will be obsessed with. This meal definitely left me wanting to try their traditional ramen!! They consider #18 their flagship brisket ramen, and it was a fan favorite at our table. We also ordered a #20 which was a take on Texas chili ramen - I LOVED that they gave us some Fritos to soak up all the leftover sauce for a little frito pie - so fun and creative! Service was wonderful!

Yelp
BBQ Ramen Tatsu-ya is definitely cool vibes. Super hip all over. They have ample outdoor and indoor seating. The set up is obviously similar to Ramen Tatsu-ya, where they have you order everything at the counter, take a number and then go sit down. The wait wasn't bad and the ramen was good. As far of the flavor of the food, it was literally what they advertise. BBQ Ramen. I ordered the Texas Torisho, which is the most popular one. It has the brisket in it and is exactly what you would think of when you think bbq ramen!. The brisket was cooked well, flavors were on point with the soy and bbq like flavors. Personally, while it was good and very "Texas", I think regular ramen is still the winner for me and regular Ramen Tatsu-ya will be my go to. I understand that it's a unique and adventurous concept, and I give a lot of kudos to the tatsu-ya brand for trying it. I am interested to try more of their menu and see if I prefer another dish.

Yelp
I'm a big fan of the Tatsu-Ya line, so I was excited to try their latest concept merging some of the two best things: Texas BBQ + ramen! Despite some pretty mixed reviews on here, my experience was pleasant and overall I was very satisfied with the food and look forward to visiting again. We visited on a Thursday just around 6pm. There was no wait and service was quick and easy. The ambiance of the location was great - plenty of parking (unlike most of their other restaurants), lots of indoor and outdoor seating, and great vibes all around! A small menu with appetizers/snacks, the ramen bowl options, a dessert, and drinks. Overview: Parking? Yes, plenty! Reservations? N/A Happy hour? N/A Food ratings: - Beeeeeean dip (3.5/5): This was interesting. If you like bean dip (like, your classic Fritos bean dip), you'll enjoy this. The white miso cheddar sauce is unique and flavorful. A tiny bit spicy, but pairs perfectly with the chips. - UGO gyoza (3/5): The presentation is great and fun (the name is fitting). The flavor was okay, I think there's room for improvement. The chili oil dipping sauce is good. Overall, a bit underwhelming for $12, but not terrible. - #18 Texas Torishō (4.5/5): This seems controversial to most (a ton of reviews complaining about how oily it is), however, mine was great! The brisket was extremely tender, and a fair portion (including the ratio of fat:meat), the noodles were awesome, and the broth was full of flavor. I personally didn't have any issues with it tasting too oily or feeling too oily. Perhaps I just got lucky and tonight's batch was made really well, and there's just an issue with consistency. As usual, I ordered an extra ajitama (the best!). Overall, I enjoyed my experience and would love to come back. I left perfectly content and full (almost couldn't finish my bowl after the 2 munchie apps), and I recommend giving it a try!

Yelp
This place was a great atmosphere, but the food fell short of my personal expectations. The host at the front provided really great descriptions of the dishes and helped my friend and I to decide on getting the Texas Torisho ramen. It has some really tender and delicious brisket on a bed of springy noodles. It's topped with some shredded ginger and a perfectly cooked soft boiled egg. I will say that while the dish was full of flavor, but the main flavor profile that I got tasted burnt. I guess some refined palettes could identify that as a smoky flavor. I was looking forward to the usual Tatsuya ramen, but the BBQ element wasn't really for me. If you're looking for a cool outdoor space to hang with friends and get fun drinks and ramen, it's great. Just wouldn't recommend the Torisho ramen.

Yelp
Came for an early dinner with a friend and we really enjoyed this place and the atmosphere! Mon-Thurs 5-630P & Fri-Sun 2-5P is happy hour and they offer 1/2 Off Munchies, 1/2 off cocktails, $5 drafts and $3 off all sake + wine. They offer reservations on Resy and I highly recommend making a reservation in advance as this is a popular place for dinner. We ordered a few appetizers and my favorite was the pimento cheese with chips & the brisket sliders. My friend ordered the BBQ ramen and ate the entire bowl! Staff is super friendly and this place really provides a casual dining experience with excellent food. Parking is great with lots of space as well. Can't wait to come back again soon.

Yelp
SUMMARY: Was curious about the food, left with curiosity sated but not my hunger for $75. Food was more quaint/experimental than delicious. Would not return. Obvious cash grab charging $10 for extra noodles. FULL REVIEW: Tatsuya started out as a stellar ramen joint in a city that had few options. They've jumped the shark a long time ago and all their new variations just come off as cash grab. It cost $75 for a bowl of ramen that didn't come close to filling me up, a child's ramen, an "appetizer", and a beer. Side sampler: Basically a small sample cup of each of their pickles for $9. It was enough for 2 people to split. They were pretty tasty but the server told us they were meant as an accompaniment or palate cleanser in between bites of ramen. I don't think this really belongs in the appetizer section and should be listed under the ramen toppings. Shrimpy pecans: Sweet and asian spiced candied pecans with a shrimpy aftertaste. These taste like a typical asian snack but I can see how a western palate could find them off-putting. Made me think of the Sahale brand of nuts. Tiny serving size, think small condiment cup. #19 Nibo nibo: When they say hyperanchovy broth, they aren't kidding. I enjoyed the broth but I'm not sure most would. Reminiscent of a dried/smoked fish based ramen I had when I was in Japan. Unlike that experience where I couldn't even finish the generous noods they gave me, Tatsuya skimps on the portion size. The serving of noodles I got seemed like less than the size of a Shin Ramyun packet. There was an adequate amount of roast beef which was tender and flavorful but not enough to justify a $17 price tag. Unlike their other location where you can order kaedama for a few bucks, THEY CHARGE $10 FOR EXTRA NOODLES HERE! Outrageous. The rationale they gave was that they have limited handmade noodles each day so they have to charge more. A flimsy excuse. Not sure why this differs from their main ramen locations.

Yelp
I love Ramen Tatsuya so I was very excited to try their new restaurant and it did NOT disappoint. The dim lighting and calming music set the perfect tone for a relaxing night out. On top of that, the customer service was amazing and our waiter was very entertaining. We ordered the Nibo Nibo and the Texas Torisho with sides of Brisket and Shrimp Wontons. Our food came to the table in 5 minutes! The brisket broth was so flavorful and smokey and the brisket was so tender it was falling apart. The Nibo Nibo came with an anchovies broth that was unlike anything I've ever had before. Both dishes were amazing and the experience was a 10/10. I highly recommend this place to anyone feeling experimental.

Yelp
New Tatsuya BBQ Ramen just opened. TLDR overall, it was okay. The good: The best parts were the ramen noodles, bbq (not chicken) and crispy pan fried gyoza. For noodles, i love the bite from the freshness. the thickness made it not get lost in the smoky broth. Lots of meat and thick cuts of it! The roast beef in the nibo nibo was great, tender and per recommendation, added fatty brisket which they cleverly called brisket toro. Ajitama egg was jammy and sweet that's always on point with all the tatsuya places. Gyoza was extra crispy. Filling slightly loose but there was a lot of flavor didn't need the chili oil (which was more just oil than chili ratio). As for the things I could be picky about: Food. I was weary about bbq in ramen because the smokiness would overtake the broth and this was the case. Although the broth in both nibo nibo (anchovy base broth) and the torisho (chicken) was complimentary to the smokiness, it was still too overpowering and I felt like I was enjoying a bowl of liquid smoke. Odd that they would choose dried anchovies as that is already smoky and chicken broth as that is so light against the heaviness of bbq. The beef meats were good, the chicken was dried but tender indicating it stayed in warmer or cooker longer than should Service. Except for the gentleman taking orders, it generally lacked luster.. Went on a late cold Saturday night and it was pretty cold and empty. Maybe 4 tables inside for the whole establishment. We walked up to a huge list of rules. Instead of just walking inside the building, we were stopped and told we had to go through "the line" which was a pathway on the perimeter that they used to anticipate clientele wrapping themselves around the building. Unnecessary walking outside through and around the corner to find ourselves stopped again by the "host" who immediately asked for a card for "pre-authorization". Another half to be explained of further rules to ensure we understand. Wait some more for the party at the indoor counter ordered and moved on to their seats. Everyone was visibly shivering and expressing it's cold and dark to see their menus or find their credit cards from their purses for this pre-authorization process. Finally, we were allowed to go in and we were told after ordering we will show ourselves our own seat that they dictated was 121. We will order drinks and pay at the table but if we wanted ramen we need to get back "in line" -- although there's no line just an unnecessary journey outside. At least make it a haunted pathway or something since it's Halloween! Again aside from the man behind the counter and the person that checked us out, everyone else didn't seem like they wanted to be there and service was minimal. At $80 for two people with the default tip starting at 20%, 22%, 25%, it just seems counterintuitive for a customer to jump through all these hoops of being pre-charged before even seeing a menu and rules before even getting to our seats.

Yelp
Waiters are friendly but the food is just alright. I think their other locations that are solely ramen are good. I got the spicy tonton mazemen which my group agreed was the best dish. Had high hopes for the ufo gyoza because of other reviews but wouldn't order it again. Also hard to find the entrance to the parking lot when it's dark out

Stephen O.

Yelp
Yummy and great place to hang out with family and friends. Love the #5.2 and #18 . Look forward to come and try others. Great BBQ .

Lexie C.

Yelp
Visited this location per my sister's request. There are a few other Ramen Tatsuyas but this one has its own TX BBQ spin in their ramen dishes. I Hadn't seen anything like it before but the bbq meats paired quite well with the rich ramen. I also liked how you could choose a variety of bbq meats and broths, or choose from one of their pre-made selections. Overall, not bad if you want to try something new with your ramen if you're not feeling a usual Tonkotsu, Shio, or Shoyu anymore!

Eina D.

Yelp
Talk about Texan fusion! There were a ton of reviews for the UFO gyoza so I just had to try it. Nicely crispy and the dumpling itself was very filling. The dipping sauce was very smoky, but paired well with the dumplings. The spicy tonton mazemen was the only brothless ramen option. The pork belly was so tender and fatty and the portion was generous. The tortilla chip toppings added a crunchy texture that contrasted nicely with the soft poached egg and tender meat. A squeeze of lime definitely added to the fusion aspect of it. My only qualm about this dish was that the chili oil was a thick layer at the bottom instead of drizzled on top and that there was no spice to it. Even when mixing it all together, the saltiness was a little overwhelming. Onto the ramen with broth, we opted to build our own with the smoked shoyu broth and the BBQ trio. It was a nice blend of flavor with the pitmaster's choice of meat. Much milder flavor than the brothless ramen.

Edwyn A.

Yelp
A non traditional ramen shop in the former Contigo space. The emphasis is on the bbq so expect a smokey and rich taste to the food here. I wasn't quite sure what to expect since this place is controversial based on the reviews. I ordered the dipping noodles with a side of frito pie. Definitely different than why dipping noodle that I've had before as the dipping sauce had the consistency of chili. A very unctuous and garlicky dip. The intent of the dish is to dip the noodles in the sauce and at the end of meal use the frito chips, cheese, and sour cream to make a frito pie. I would mix these all up and use the Frito pie as the dip as the cream and the cheese will cut the meatiness of the chili dip, The noodles were the thick variety and cooked slightly Al dente. I liked this variety and it was suited for this dish just like spaghetti is to to ragu sauce. The noodles were also treated to a tart dash of lime to cut through the dipping sauce. The dish was washed down with a frozen colada cocktail with a sweet midori floater. Cocktails are a tad on the sweet side. Worth a try if your looking for something on the heavier and smokier side. Though I'm not too sure how often I'd come here as it is heavy. It'll be interesting if they evolve this menu to something more fresh as the months get warmer. Btw the sauce was heavy on the garlic so you'll likely have to brush your teeth a couple times after this meal. I also came around lunch on a Friday and it wasn't crowded at all so probably a good time to come here to try it out before more know it's open during lunch on the weekends. It'll also set you back some decent change. The ramen is about $18 and the drink including the floater will set you back about $16.

Yelp
Customer service is great! They provided informative menu details and made great recommendations. The patio is spacious. It was a bit cold, so they were nice enough to turn on the heaters for us. They have their own parking lot. The brisket was tender, smoky and delicious. The broth was a great combo with the brisket. I highly recommend the nachos. They have queso and a smoky flavor. The ramen was a bit heavy, but it was so flavorful it's worth trying.
