The Best Restaurants In East Hollywood

"There’s nothing easier than a meal at BBQ + Rice. Between their convenient location on Santa Monica and their affordable prices, there are a lot of reasons that this Korean rice bowl spot is an East Hollywood neighborhood standby. You’ve got a whole bunch of great options here, but we usually go for the bulgogi or the spicy chicken bowls: Both are under $11, and come with sauteed fresh vegetables and house-made pickles." - brant cox, nikko duren

The Best Lunch Spots In Hollywood

"BBQ + Rice, a tiny spot on Santa Monica Blvd., is an ideal place for a quick lunch that doesn’t involve a drive-thru or candy from 7-Eleven. They serve delicious Korean rice bowls, including things like spicy pork, galbi jjim, and a slightly sweet beef bulgogi. Every bowl comes with some version of their house-made pickles, but we recommend grabbing an extra container to supplement your rice and meat. They’ve also got a parking lot, so you can spent less time searching for a spot, and more time eating." - brant cox, arden shore

Baroo’s LA Space Returns With Korean BBQ Rice Bowls and a Familiar Face - Eater LA

"In-the-know local diners will recognize the name from the company’s first location in a strip mall off Sunset Boulevard, right next to Chibiscus and near the Rock & Roll Ralphs. That outlet, as well as the one that has taken up inside the old Baroo, focuses on simple Korean rice bowls, topped with things like bulgogi, kimchi, galbi, and gochujang-marinated chicken. There are dumplings and drinks as well, but it’s all very simple — except for one serious surprise." - Farley Elliott

Give up the sauce. I don’t know why they wouldn’t give me the sauce. I just want the sauce. And more sauce. Is that a problem? Would’ve been 5 stars but no you gotta bogart the sauce. Smh

Google
Shout out to the person working at Old Style Guitars who recommended this place. It’s walking distance from Gold Diggers and Hollywood Forever (both great concert venues), and honestly some of the best eggplant I’ve ever had. The menu is simple and straightforward, with one vegan/vegetarian option. The tofu and eggplant bowl was insanely delicious. Huge portions, very reasonable price, and piping hot and fresh. I walked there and ordered from the cashier, and it was a ten minute wait for food. You can order online in advance for pick up from their website, and it seems like they do a ton of delivery. They gave me napkins, a fork, and soy sauce and sriracha packets, but I didn’t need them because it was seasoned and flavored perfectly. The tofu was melt in your mouth soft, not chewy at all, my favorite way of eating it. The in house pickled veggies were so good, and balanced the flavors in the dish. There were cashews for a crunch, and some onions and bok choy, all on a bed of fluffy white rice. I know LA has a ton of places to eat but I would definitely come back just for this bowl. After the rest of my group saw and smelled what I was eating, they all went to go order from there themselves and agreed it was delicious.

Google
Black Pepper Chicken Bowl / marinated chicken, bok choy, bell peppers, cabbage, onion, crispy chips, house-made pickles. - 5 stars! There are three BBQ+Rice locations in the general Hollywood area and this is my review of their third location. I am a big fan of these guys. They serve very tasty, very filling, very price conscious Korean inspired bowls and sides. I tried the black pepper chicken this time and again, was super happy with my meal. I am a big fan of eating food as fresh as I can get it, so I had my meal in their nice little dining room. This location seems to have the best seating options and easy parking so I might focus on this one for return visits. As LA slowly gets more expensive (just like everywhere I guess), it is really nice to have affordable options that are filling and lean towards the healthier side of the value meal specturm. I think they may be opening a new location soon. One of the owners mentioned a 4th space. I'm happy for them. They deserve their continued success.

Google
There hasn’t been once where I don’t think about the food at this place it is one of my favorite places to be at and get food from the bulgogi beef bowl is one of my favorites along side with the AMAZING fried chicken dumplings. They are the best dumplings I have ever had! If it came to recommending anything from this place it will be the dumplings I am absolutely in love with those dumplings!!

Google
I give the guy credit. Being a mexican guy making korean food especially the fried chicken is pretty good. Could use a little more rice and make the bulgogi a little more salty because I could barely taste the flavor. Other than that it is a 8/10.

Google
One of my favorite spots here in the neighborhood no doubt. I always call in my order and it’s ready 10-15 from when I call. And the bowls are fire, always comes in clutch after a long day at work.

Google
Awesome food and great customer service. Everything tasted fresh and the portions were good. Ordered the bulgogi bowl with a fried egg added and spicy mayo chicken bowl which was pretty spicy. The Korean fried chicken was nice and crispy they serve fresh.

Google
On Santa Monica Boulevard from Vine to Western there is a glut of places to wat, period. Never mind if it's bad food, or expensive, if you live here and you are hungry, you either cook or go to 7-11. And then this place opened. Cheap and with food worth writing a review about.

Yelp
Yummy to my Tummy!! Will def try it again. Ready to try more options. The Beef Bulgogi hit the spot!!
google avatar

Barndi K.

Yelp
Healthy serving of freshly cooked rice loaded w made to order bulgogi on top! It was seasoned well and delicious- not at all dry or chewy. Add extra protein if you want leftovers for next day. The parking lot can be packed so I would order ahead for a pickup. Not someplace you'd sit down and eat at tho they do have some space for that, if memory serves.

Yelp
I absolutely love the idea of a Korean BBQ Bowl. Most of the KBbQ restaurants I love require a minimum of two people to dine in. A lot of times when I have a taste for KBBQ I am alone and cannot enjoy it for this reason so this spot intrigued me. I ordered online for pickup. The GPS told me I was 8 minutes away, when I got there my order was ready for pickup. The portion sizes are great. I ate from that bowl all day! I ordered online: 1. Gochujang Chicken Bowl which comes on a bed of rice with house made pickle planks. It was good, just spicy enough and a nice portion. 2. A side of House made Kimchi -it was too soft for my liking so it seemed old, I prefer mine still a bit crunchy but the flavor was good. $3 3. A side of Dumplings. These were a good size and stuffed with flavorful filling $3 4. Korean Fried chicken - they were bite size pieces. I thought they would be Whole or party wings. I prefer bone in chicken. When you say "Fried Chicken" that's what I expect. Otherwise it's tenders or nuggets. But it explains the price $6 5. I loved the Korean drinks! I had the white grape juice which had whole peeled grapes in it. It was so juicy and fun. Also I had the Milk Soda which was a yogurt flavored carbonated drink Delish! 6. A side of rice just in case $2. It came in clutch as it helped me stretch my bowl into several meals. As you can see the prices are reasonable so you can eat hear on any budget. They use Sustainable packaging food and their to go presentation is on point! There is sufficient table seating for those who are on the go eating. I will definitely be returning!

Yelp
The staff are extremely friendly and the food was DELICIOUS. Thank you so much for the great food! I went to the restaurant Sabor Mexicano next door and it was disgusting so I randomly walked into BBQ rice hoping for a better experience and I was not wrong.

Yelp
I love the spicy mayo chicken. I wish I had a location closer to me. Go guys if you see this review, consider opening a spot by USC lol

Yelp
Nice staff and delicious food! Randomly stumbled upon this place and was NOT disappointed. Really delicious and great prices! $12 for a large bowl. That's dinner tonight and lunch tomorrow. I'll be back for sure!
google avatar

Yelp
This was the perfect lunch spot. I was working in the area and needed some food so I ordered from here. Really simple menu - I got the beef bulgogi bowl and chicken gyoza. Portion sizes was huge!! If I wasn't feeling glutinous I could have split it and had it for two meals. Bowl and gyoza were so flavorful and exactly what I was craving. I'll have to make sure to order again.

Yelp
Haven't come here in awhile. Used to come here when it was a man and woman; 2 person operation. From what I understood they were the owners. Came back recently and they're nowhere to be found, just some dudes. The quality has gone down for sure. Just an oily, tasteless mess; even if you dress it up with sriracha and soy sauce; it's just kind of nothing. :/ bummer. Guess it's like everything else post COVID; shitty.
google avatar

Audrey F.

Yelp
Love it here! Wish I could eat this every single day! Their pickles are the best. Service can be a little slow but hey no harm no foul. I've never eaten inside the store only dine out but nothing all too special yet clean!
google avatar

Hugh A.

Yelp
I had been meaning to try this place for awhile and I'm so glad I finally did. I tried the spicy pork bowl and it did not disappoint at all. It can be kind of a hassle to find parking but that's just LA. Overall the food was and super yummy. I think this has become one of my new go to spots!
google avatar

Yelp
Never fails! This place is amazing. Homemade dumplings and some of the best fried chicken on the west side. The original fried chicken with this lemony brine sauce on the side The staff are always friendly and smiling. Great addition to Mar Vista. :)

Yelp
Had to go to the UPS store and saw this spot on the corner, so I thought, "why not"? I've been on a big rice kick... almost went for the Bulgolgi salad since it's so hot, but decided to go traditional and get rice. Order: Bulgolgi and Rice - $12 Fried Chicken Dumplings - $3 House made Cucumber Pickle My favorite part of the meal was the cucumber pickles. I am glad I ordered a whole side. The bulgolgi and rice was ok. It satisfies you when you have a craving for meat and rice, but the flavor of the bulgolgi was alright. There was something missing or different that I can't pinpoint. All in all it was a descent lunch for a descent price. Eating area: So this is basically just a pick up window with outdoor seating. There is a long bar type area with stools, a couple of lunch benches and a couple of tables and stools. Pretty simple, but it was shaded and fortunately there was a nice breeze.

Yelp
Wok fried tofu is so delicious. I was so happy to see they had a vegetarian option. Sad that it's the only option, but it's so yum so i was happy. BF liked the bulgogi beef. Been back 3 times already. Service was fast. More of a hole in a wall vibe so we took ours to go. Will be back! They have a few locations around LA so that's nice.
google avatar

Yelp
FAVORITE PLACE to pick up Togo. As a personal trainer I love quick and easy places to eat, especially when they're cooked fresh:)
google avatar

Princess G.

Yelp
Wok-fried tofu... SAUTEED TOFU... did the name changed or is it different bowls. Anyways, it is so GOOD. It has a bit of everything - tofu, eggplant, cashews, bok choy, onions, topped with house made pickles over rice. Just writing this review makes me want one right now. Also, they're always super friendly here. Delicious eats and awesome service, what more can you ask for... Only down side, parking during busy hours, it can get super tight! But I say, it's worth it!
google avatar

Jason Z.

Yelp
Excellent Korean takeout. I especially like the spicy pork bowl with fried egg on top
google avatar

Sheila K.

Yelp
Love the tofu bowl I live in Palm Springs Ca I wish they had BBQ + Rice there It's fresh made right in front of you when I'm in LA it's my go to place for something healthy
google avatar

Wayne C.

Yelp
Great new go-to place. I don't come to this part of town but if I do, I'm eating here. Tofu bowl so yum I hate eggplant, that's ok Flavored and sauteed Strip mall a bit sketch Price is cheap but parking's meh Chef is nice and quick
google avatar

David K.

Yelp
If I tip you say thank you. I'm trying to have a Korean vibe not a mariachi band playing in back. Food was great for the price. I'll be coming back.
google avatar

Christine C.

Yelp
FIRE A$$ food!!! You won't regret coming here. Friendly staff and great customer service. Every single visit so far has been just as good as the first Spicy Chicken Bowl has a burst of fresh flavors, soooo good! You won't regret coming here, bowls are decent size filled with veggies. My favorite part is the pickled radish (no photos to share).
google avatar

Yelp
Not sure what the hype is to be honest... maybe I went on a off day but my friend and I were both pretty disappointed. Let's start off with parking, private lot but you have to be lucky to get a spot. The 7-11 guy is hella rude if you park in their spot, even if there was no actually sign on the pillar. So watch out and don't park in the spots that have yellow pillars. Food, ehhh. There wasn't much flavor tbh and Costco had more flavorful bulgogi than this place. The guys working we're super chill but the food was not what I would've imagined for it being 5 stars to other Yelpers.
google avatar

Orozco M.

Yelp
This place was phenomenal! Food was hot, fresh and so delicious! Customer service was great. Cashier was polite, fast, attentive and on top of orders even tho he was the only waiting on walk ins and online orders! I plan on coming back and trying everything on their menu. I'm so happy I found this little amazing hole in the wall! :)
google avatar

Elia D.

Yelp
Food is sooo good and portions are HUGE for the price; I could honestly only finish half and save the rest for later. I always get the black pepper chicken since the flavor tends to stay consistent for that one. Gave it 4/5 because the third time my boyfriend had the bulgogi bowl, it lacked some flavor. Their kimchi is also AMAZING. I personally like how you're really able to taste the garlic and it doesn't taste super fermented.
google avatar

Becktoria B.

Yelp
If you want a quick and filling bite to eat, this is a great affordable option. The kbbq flavours of the meat combined with the simple steamed rice is so pleasant and satisfying. I've tried a few of their dishes and they are so good! Limited parking spaces in the lot though.

Nawal A.

Yelp
Have been eyeing this spot for so long and I'm blown away by the meal! The portion sizes, flavors, quality, 10/10! Will be back
google avatar

Attosa C.

Yelp
Really delicious food, very generous portions, nicely priced. I came across this place on the way to the shops and decided to give it a try. I'm very happy that I did because I loved it. If you order something spicy, it's definitely going to be spicy, so be ready for that! There are a few picnic tables around if you're going to eat there. Parking is tough, just metered street spots.
google avatar

Nik J.

Yelp
I am a regular at this place because when I come to BBQ+Rice I know I'm going to be getting a comforting meal in a huge portion. This is owned by one of the co-founders of Baroo, the hugely successful popup and the quality and flavors of those dishes have translated quite nicely to these more accessible dishes, like the bulgogi bowl and the tofu bowl. My go-tos were the kimchi fried rice bowl (discontinued) and the bulgogi salad. People I've gone with also swear by their black pepper chicken and their short rib. I loved the kimchi fried rice bowl so much that I made it one of my phone backgrounds lol This location was recently broken into and their cash register stolen, so please support the super friendly owner Matthew amd his employees by stopping for lunch here sometime. One thing is that the parking lot is kind of small but there is also some street parking too.
google avatar

Tiana C.

Yelp
Still one of my fav Korean restaurants, got one of my favs the beef bulgogi bowl and was craving some popcorn chicken but the Korean fried chicken satisfied my craving. Food is always freshly prepared, seasoned well, packed with flavor, and reasonable priced for the generous portion.
google avatar

Jerry C.

Yelp
Always a five star food is amazing recommend to anyone who lives here and who is willing to travel
google avatar

Minye C.

Yelp
I ordered bbq rice and dumplings and everyone loved it. Everything was on time Strongly recommend!
google avatar

Spencer C.

Yelp
A simple spot that is absolutely bomb. There aren't, but they're packed with flavor. I got the spicy chicken bowl and it hit the spot, and since my gf doesn't like spicy stuff she got the bulgogi beef bowl. Lots of praise from both of us. We were going to a movie at Hollywood Forever right down the street, and the to-go containers were perfect to sit out on a blanket and chow down while we watched. Definitely recommend this if you're headed to Hollywood Forever. Their sesame soy sauce goes great on everything, so be sure and ask for *extra* when you order!
google avatar

David F.

Yelp
The spicy friedchicken side is 10/5 but everything else is 2/5 hence the review of 4/5. NOT the spicy chicken plate
google avatar

Em B.

Yelp
literally so good. I got the tofu bowl and was so pleasantly surprised. highly recommend! service was very friendly too :)
google avatar

Alex A.

Yelp
I'm literally thinking about this place before bed, it was SO GOOD !!! I want to go back again tomorrow. The spicy chicken bowl with an egg was chef's kiss. It's my absolute favorite and the prices are reasonable not like some of these other overhyped LA joints! Parking is a bit chaotic, but just go there right before noon and you shouldn't have an issue. They are super speedy and make sure to ask for their special house soy sauce! I also get some spicy mayo on the side too. Omg I can't wait to go back there tomorrow hahaha
google avatar

Amyree H.

Yelp
So flavorful and delicious. It was really the smell outside other drew me in when i was walking past one night so i came in the next day and grabbed the Bulgogi Beef and the Korean sweet and sour Chicken‍ soo good i went back and got the spicy chicken for dinner the same day! So delicious -from a chicigoan
google avatar

Nancy H.

Yelp
OH my goodness gracious. The spicy pork bowl will make you want to wrap yourself up in a blanket and rock yourself back and forward. The ultimate comfort food! It is soo good! Perfect spice, thin slices of pork, a good portion too and best of all that sweet, spicy and sticky rice. I'm cuffed.

Malcolm D.

Yelp
Food was amazing actually. Very reasonably priced and service with a huge smile. Will definitely return and probably more than once.
google avatar

James Y.

Yelp
Saw the place when I was stopped at a red light. Checked Yelp and it had good reviews so made a u-turn to give it a try. I went with the bulgogi bowl with is marinated beef sautéed with veggies. The food was good but the meat needed more marinade.
google avatar

Judd A.

Yelp
If you want a fast and epic beef or chicken bowl - you have found the spot. The spicy chicken bowl is stupid good. The amount of flavor packed into the bowl - chicken - veg is incredible. They definitely got some dope chefs in the back of this joint.
google avatar

Aaron V.

Yelp
I can't even lie. This place is absolute FIRE. A hole in the wall place. The food came out fast and it was delicious. The tables were a bit dirty though but that's no biggie. Think they only had 1 or 2 guys in there. The ratings don't lie on the food though. Simple, healthy, and delicious.
google avatar

Rob C.

Yelp
Solid place to go for cheap, tasty and quality eats! I work relatively close by so I find myself burrowing it here for lunch pretty often and I love it. I usually get their beef bulgogi salad bowl to get me through the rest of the day, but you can't go wrong with the other items they have here. No complaints here at all. Jonathan is really cool, he knows his regulars really well. He's definitely the glue around here and it shows.
google avatar

Bradley K.

Yelp
This place seriously hit the spot! The family and I took a quick weekend trip to LA for a concert at the Hollywood Bowl and rented a place nearby in Hollywood. Since there were 5 of us and I hadn't done nearly enough research to suggest a restaurant in the area for dine in, we asked our neighbor on the rooftop of a place and he quickly responded that the Korean BBQ place down the road was excellent. And he wasn't lying. It was fast, hot, and delicious. Check. Check. Check.

Lawrence N.

Yelp
Big portions perfectly steamed rice, super tasty, been 3 times but one time had too much unedible gristle and had to spit out. Other would be 5 stars. Reasonable price. Will eat again.
google avatar

Adam K.

Yelp
How have I not left a review for BBQ+Rice yet? It is absolutely one of my favorite KBBQ places, and my favorite (and go to) whenever I'm craving KBBQ in the Hollywood/West Hollywood area. I will be completely and 100% honest, I have never eaten in the actual restaurant (although it looks very nice). I have always had the food delivered or taken it as carry out. And it's always great! It is absolutely delicious. My favorite is the bulgogi bowl, but everything that everyone else has had always looks good and there are never any complaints. It's also very reasonably priced. You get a good amount of delicious food for a good price. You can't beat it. And they're great at delivery and carry out orders. I would assume they're just as great for dining in. Cannot recommend enough.
google avatar

Tiffanie L.

Yelp
Came by and ordered the Sautéed Tofu Bowl and KFC (sweet and spicy). Got my order within ten minutes of ordering. Sautéed Tofu : 9/10 everything in the bowl except for the tofu itself was amazzzzzzzzing. Keep in mind I don't eat tofu often maybe I'm just being picky about it but I thought it just tasted like regular tofu. Still a very delicious bowl! Not saying it wasn't tasty. Just saying it the tofu tasted regular. I'd love to try the other bowls next time! Korean Fried Chicken (sweet & sour): 10/10 omg I loved it. Crunchy and just the right amount of spicy, which isn't too much. And only $5?! What a steal dude. Omg can't wait to get some more again.
google avatar

Remy H.

Yelp
Discovered this amazing place while browsing the list of Yelp's Top 100 Places to Eat in LA and the Valley. Loved everything about spicy chicken bowl - huge portion for a great price too. Will definitely be ordering here again!
google avatar

Tyler H.

Yelp
So I was in Hollywood and was craving Korean food, found this spot on Yelp. First of all, the parking lot is fairly small and it shares it with 7/11 so I could see parking being hard to find. K was lucky though and found some parking in the afternoon. I got the Bulgogi Bowl with egg&cheese as add-ons. The bowl had lots of flavors and the texture was interesting with the radish, cheese, egg, rice and the Bulgogi. The ingredients worked well together and the portion size wasn't bad. I'd recommend this spot if you are craving some Korean food!
google avatar

Dora H.

Yelp
Since I was in the area, I decided to look for a new spot to try for lunch. I was craving some asian food and decided to give BBQ + Rice a go. It's located in a small plaza with a few parking spots available for those lucky enough to snag one. Street parking is also available for those willing to walk, just pay attention to the signs! The interior is small and offers up a few chairs for those who would like to dine in. The menu is fairly simple and the rice bowls are all filled with a variety of veggies to compliment your choice of protein. Being a beef lover, I went straight for the galbi bowl. The meat was tender and soft, and was not entirely what I was expecting. It was not the traditional texture you'd find on the rib, but more of a stewed beef. I enjoyed the sweet and salty flavors from the bowl and found the pickled veggies to add another layer of flavor that all went very well together! The bulgogi beef tasted like the bulgogi beef you know and love, but better! The rice was extra fluffy, and the special house made sauce they put into all the bowls tastes so good! I even went ahead and added a few extra drops into mine just so I can savor the flavor even more! I throughly enjoyed my meal here, and would definitely come back again to eat more of their delicious Korean rice bowls!
