The Best Restaurants & Bars In Rockaway Beach & Jacob Riis Park - New York - The Infatuation

"Head over to the boardwalk at Beach 97th Street and you’ll find a large outdoor space filled with vendors, picnic tables, and occasionally live music. It’s a great place for a group, because everybody can get something different, and nobody has to be annoying about it. Some of our favorites include La Cevicheria, a Peruvian stall with cold, citrus-bathed fish, La Fruteria, for iced lattes and avocado toast, and Sand Shark Bar—that’s where you’ll get alcohol." - willa moore, molly fitzpatrick, neha talreja

Beach 97th Street Concessions - Review - Rockaway Beach - New York - The Infatuation

"If you find yourself in the Rockaways near Beach 97, with a group of people who couldn’t agree on what to eat if their lives depended on it, head to the concessions area. There, you’ll find a large outdoor space filled with vendors, picnic tables, and occasionally live music. Then, everybody in your party can get something different, and nobody is allowed to be annoying about it. A few of our favorites include La Cevicheria, a Peruvian stall with cold, citrus-bathed fish that costs less than $20, La Fruteria for iced lattes and avocado toast, and Sand Shark Bar—that’s where you’ll get alcohol." - Willa Moore

Rockaway Residents Push Back Against New Beach Boardwalk Concessions Vendor | Eater NY

"The team behind Brooklyn Bazaar, operating here as Rockaway Beach Bazaar, has been chosen in the Parks Department's notice to receive a proposed 15-year concessions contract and has committed to pay the city $300,000 in annual fees in year one with increases thereafter; managers Belvy Klein and Aaron Broudo say they will give existing vendors first dibs on their current locations, are awaiting Parks Department figures to set rent (hoping to finalize them by month’s end), and plan to transform the Beach 97th area into a year-round destination and add up to 20 concessions stands over time — plans that have nonetheless alarmed locals concerned about outsiders taking over." - Tanay Warerkar

Mysterious Boardwalk Sabotage Threatens Rockaways Vendors

"Vendors discovered extensive, deliberate contamination and destruction inside the Shore Front Parkway concessions building: a pervasive rotten-fish stench led to finding bags of raw fish and bottles of sour milk and rotting meat stuffed into ceiling ventilation shafts; a sealed concessions office was forced open and found ransacked with broken equipment and shelving; many floor drains were filled with sand that concealed concrete beneath. Merchants characterize the scene as sabotage rather than a prank. A formal NYPD complaint cited damage to metal doors, an office in disarray, and food placed inside pipes and vents, with estimated damages over $10,000; the incident was classified as criminal mischief (reported May 13). Cleanup efforts are ongoing, vendors worry about missing the busy Memorial Day weekend, and some locals speculate the attack was retaliation after a controversial change in boardwalk management." - Chris Shott

Was here yesterday and last night for Rockaway Surf Music Festival, which was a lot of fun. I thought the food and service at three different food vendors I went to was great. And really not overpriced for such a location. The setting was terrific, people were friendly and willing to share tables. If I had to find one issue, I would say the trash cans could have been emptied sooner and there should have been separate containers for cans. And as a Rockaway native who loved Playland when he was a kid, I wish it were still there. Actually, would be great if there was a Playland theme to the venue.

Amazing spot! Me and my girls came here on a Friday afternoon—there was live music, so many amazing food options, good customer service, and the vibes were perfect. Prime place to go for a beach day. Five stars!

This closing time is misleading. The kitchen closes at 7 PM the latest, but sometimes 6 PM if the weather is no good. I was there Friday evening at 8pm to grab a bite. All food vendors closed and it had only started to just begin to dribble. I came because it said 10pm closing.
