"This barstaurant’s cozy brick space, long bar, and dark wooden accents feel like a traveler’s lodge. It's also strewn with positive affirmations that a restaurant would say to itself in the mirror. But we can confirm that Beard and Belly does, in fact, have “good food” and “fun times.” The crowd of Edgewater lifers and temporary Loyola students creates a busy, friendly atmosphere that’s welcoming for everyone. And after eating some crispy beer-battered pickles, chicken pot pie hand pies, and a burger with creamy Butterkäse, you too might get on board with the generic sayings." - adrian kane, john ringor
"What grew from a burger pop-up to a residency inside the Long Room, one of Chicago’s best bars, has turned into a community staple in Edgewater. This is an old-school pub that is great for groups and families (at least during the day). The food is well thought out, but the wild card is the relationship with Honeypie, a venerable Milwaukee pie shop that opened in 2009. Honeypie operates in Chicago via a storefront in front of Beard & Belly, and customers can order whole pies to take home. Slices are also available at Beard & Belly and are available late; a high-potent stout or bourbon often makes an ideal late-night pairing. The fruit and cream pies rotate, and there’s not a stinker in the bunch. So if your group is split between sweet and savory — and they’d like to get out of their house for a nocturnal beverage — Beard & Belly is a prime choice. Must-try dish: Beard & Belly is known for its burgers, and visitors should order at least one (you can always split them with your table). But we’re enamored with the pies, especially the cream varieties versus the fruit. Honeypie’s caramel banana is heaven. Order whole pies with 24 hours’ notice." - Ashok Selvam

"For those who take comfort in the messy, meaty marvel that is poutine, take note of this Edgewater spot that serves a version with a significant fanbase. It’s a Canada-meets-Midwest masterpiece: french fries, cheese curds, and short ribs smothered in three-day gravy, white cheddar sauce, and fresh herbs. There’s also an ever-changing lineup of top-notch pies that hold up well on the ride home." - Ashok Selvam
"This Edgewater bar has stellar burgers, a solid beer list, and pies from Honeypie. What else do you need? The comfy and divey space is good for groups." - Eater Staff
