Traditional fare from Central America, including curries & seafood dishes, in a down-to-earth space.
"Picture a small diner with big leather booths serving bacon and eggs right alongside stew beef and oxtail—that’s essentially the deal at Belizean Paradise Cuisine. It’s possible you’ve never grabbed a meal at this Mid-City spot, since it’s tucked off of La Brea Avenue and closes at 3:30pm. The dining room is always calm, but know that the mixed bag of dishes on their menu are worth driving out of your way for. Their weekend-only breakfast menu in particular features a dizzying array of standouts, from meat pies and coconut tarts to cheesy garnaches and chicken tamales wrapped in banana leaves." - Nikko Duren
"Where else can you get fall-off-the-bone tender pigtails with split peas north of the 10? At Yvonne Myvette’s Belizean kitchen, there’s escabeche, a special, tart chicken, that goes into an vinegary onion soup topped with the chicken and hard boiled eggs. The whole thing is stewed in black recado, a spice paste, called chimole, that’s rare to enjoy outside South LA. Belize’s national filling dish, rice and beans, are cooked in coconut milk and spices, and come with standard stew chicken, or stew beef, not to mention several other proteins like fried fish." - Bill Esparza
